    While I'm learning to make candles myself, I've found that multiplying water weight by .86 will give you a pretty accurate weight for the wax needed to fill your container. This is good to know if you want to make only one candle and need to know how much wax to melt. Melted wax weighs the same as when not melted. Thank you, Erica, for taking the time to make this video.

    Great,informative video. I’m not crafty but I’ve been thinking of repurposing my empty Altoid tins and making mostly unscented emergency candles. After doing some searching I found a leather scent and an Old Spice scent. You got me thinking of some more masculine scented candles, in a more “rugged” container. Thanks for the information.

  • @smolshay

    I really enjoy using the CandleScience method for oil loads and additives to the wax. Take how much wax you'll be pouring, multiply that by the percentage of oil you're adding depending on what your wax can hold. I usually pour in very small batches, so 16 ounces multiplied by 8%. It tells me that I need 1.28, or rounded up to 1.30, ounces of fragrance oil needed to be mixed with my wax.
    And I find that the easiest way to clean out remnants of wax in a pitcher is boiling or almost boiling water. Just pour it in, and wait a bit. The wax will melt off the edges and form up at the top, then you can just skim it off and reuse the water for washing dishes or something.

    huge questionnn! I'm starting off with candle making to hopefully start a website. I have everything except containers! They are soooo expensive! Do you know any place that sells them for a reasonable rate and do you recommend selling three different sizes of containers or just one when your first starting off. Thank youu!

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  3 роки тому

      It really just depends on the kind of jars you’re looking for, a lot of mason jars or even straight sides 9 oz jars can be pretty inexpensive of you buy in bulk! (Candlescience, theflamingcandle, Aztec, etc)
      And honestly I would have at least two different sizes 💜 (I don’t but I’m working on it!)

      I really like your matte black containers but I don't want to copy you haha. Thanks for the advice!

      Lucas Sosa so many people use them! Calcandlesupply, Candlescience, the wooden wick and the flaming candle all have black jars that are similar :)

    So I tried to make my first candle today and my wax is taking some time to even start hardening? What did I do wrong?

    • @christeef6840
      @christeef6840 3 роки тому +1

      Did end up hardening alright Alexis? There are so many factors that come into play here and you gave no information. What kind of wax are you using? What is the temp inside where you're pouring them? What temp are you pouring the wax at?

    Love these types of informative videos. Thank you for doing that. Would love to see the wax process from unboxing to chopping it and melting it. Would also love to have a video of you packing shipments for orders. Those are interesting. Have you ever done one on the business side of it? I know a lot of people have the interest in making candles but don’t know the next steps that go from making them to actually selling them. The process of getting that business part set up, the insurance, the website process for taking orders, sales tax, batching lots, etc....

      I definitely need to start incorporating more topics on business but these require much more knowledge and preparation, I have to handle these in a responsible way and make sure I’m giving out accurate information

    Hi☺️would you recommend paraffin wax?

    • @LL-mq9ir
      @LL-mq9ir 3 роки тому +3

      Hi! Paraffin wax holds fragrance more strongly than any other wax but it’s harmful as it emits toxics and black smoke. It’s all about what the purpose of your candles is going to be!

      Soy has additives to make it burn.
      The high consumption of soy also has a negative impact on the environment-some makers won't use soy because of that.
      The lady was using paper cups to measure in her video-not good for environment?

    Great job, thank you it cleared up a couple of questions I had. I now know when to add the scents. Not sure on adding color to soy wax.

    Amazing video, thank you. I'm a beginner and love the science behind candle making. Yours was the only video I have found that is technical enough to satisfy my preciseness. And I love, love, love your formula for calculating the weight of wax and fragrance required. I took it one step further, took the weight of water required for my desired fill level, then used the density of the wax on the msds to convert to the wax weight. And guess what? I ended up with the most perfect fill level with absolutely no wastage first time 😍 Mega win xxx
    P.s. It astounds me, the number of videos out there that use random cup measurements, teaspoons of essential oils and heating with a microwave resulting in serious leftovers - argh!
