High Peak Trail - Peak District Gravel Ride

- Join me on a classic #gravel ride in the Peak District starting at Middleton Top. We venture out on the High Peak Trail up to the Parsley Hay where we get onto the Tissington Trail. At Biggin we cross over to a lovely gravel road, returning to the High Peak Trail, where we begin our return journey. This fantastic ride takes in the best of the local limestone scenery and is suitable for all abilities.
Here is the route on Strava / strava

Came across your channel by chance and did this route a few day’s ago. I enjoyed it that much, I am bringing some friends along to do it again!
Can’t wait to try some of your other routes, keep them coming 👍
You have made my day. Thankyou so much for your lovely comments.
Ian are you riding an mtb or gravel bike ? I am thinking about the profile of my subscribers. Cheers
@@JuliePhelanExplore hi Julie, sorry about the late reply. I ride a Mtb! To be honest I have never been on a gravel bike! Thanks
@@ianworker1804 that's useful. To be honest on my cx bike, which is what I am riding gravel on, I only have 36mm tyres. So when it gets really knarly or potentially have a lot of big stones/ very loose, I use a ridged mtb. Sometimes the fatter tyres are a good 'insurance policy' . Did a great mtb ride yesterday for those with a sense of adventure 😀 What this space. Cheers
Gave this a go this week, great little ride, thanks Julie
You're welcome
Look forward to checking this route out, thanks Julie
Enjoy Gemma
Did this one today as planned Julie, and whilst it was cold (1degc, ‘feels like’ -2degc according to met office!) it was a brilliant ride, with the gravel road joining the two trails just mixing things up a treat. Up nice and early from Lincoln at 0630 so got this done just as things started to get busy, but highly recommended to anyone thinking of doing this on a gravel bike or mtb.
Looking forward to riding the rest!
Brilliant . What a shame I didn't ride up that way today!
Looks like a beautiful ride! Thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome
Looks fantastic, want to head that way for a bike packing trip… great vid cheers!
Sounds like a great plan
New too gravel riding Julie, love this series of videos, thank you so much for taking the time
You are most welcome.
Thanks for putting your lovely comment on here.
We've done the Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail and joined them via Carsington Water. Makes a great triangular route of around 60km. Thanks for the lovely video and tips..👍
You are most welcome. Love it when people respond on here. Thankyou so much .
Great video. Looking forward to giving this a go. :-)
Thanks for that lovely comment. This route will remain perfect even after heavy rain !!!! Let me know how you get on.
Thanks Julie, great to know the temporary bridge is in place, I took an "interesting" detour onto a v busy A road last year when I came up from worcestershire last year. Looking forward to your next routes
Thank you for that :-) Just posted another route. Here's the link. It's in the same area. Enjoy

Super video and a great route. Coincidently we did parts of the route just recently and did the super gravel road road but from Minninglow to Biggin. We were out in the snow on the High Peak and Tissington trails as well which was great fun. Thanks for your time and effort with the videos, tips and routes. I will be trying and adapting the routes over the next few months
Thanks. I think in the present wet conditions that's a good idea . I have been thinking about that myself. You could go over to the Monsal Trail from Hurdlow, get on the gravel roads near Hassop; drop down to Rowsley where theres a cycle route to Matlock; get on the road through Matlock. Once you get to Cromford get on to the canal towpath and join the HP trail at the Incline which takes you up to Middleton Top. I believe that's about 40 miles .
Check it on the Walklakes website
Cheers for that. I think a whizz up from Hurdlow down NCR54 round Carsington and back up NCR68 is on the cards - not very adventurous but given the weather conditions it will get me out and about.
@@JuliePhelanExplore Walklakes?
@@andygillibrand34 good choice because it's cold and the days are short. Snow is on the forecast tomorrow afternoon . May be worth checking . Have fun

Have a look at this video . You have to register/ login but it's free. It's a great planning tool. The video shows you how to use it .
Did this one today Julie - really great route thoroughly enjoyed it (I walked the downhill gravel bit from Biggin - need to work on that!). Looking forward to trying some more of your routes 😘
Fantastic. It does feel sketchy but you know , we all have something to work on. The first thing is to recognise what you have to do. So well done you . Polished limestone is an art .
nice video:). I shall be on that route from Buxton though in May next year....planning a very looooooong trip
Heh thanks for commenting. So what's the plan? Sounds very exciting??????
@@JuliePhelanExplore Manchester to Padua(Italy)
@@ChristopherClaudioSkierka wow fantastic
@@JuliePhelanExplore ...well need to start training, its been some time since been on a bike :).
@@ChristopherClaudioSkierka omg absolutely lol ! What a spirit for adventure you have. I admired that. Best of luck with it.
Im 74 just going to do this route This Thursday 4th october 23
Impressive but I really am starting to think that for many of us, we are capable of more than we ever dreamt of . Enjoy .
Hi can you cycle this on road bikes with 28c tyres and the Tissington trail
Please?
Hi Linda, I personally wouldn't . New small stones have been put down to make the surface more durable . I think you may end up with a puncture . I reckon you could do it on tyres like Vittoria pavés which are tough and wider .
@@JuliePhelanExplore hi Julie that lovely many thanks going on holiday next September near there and we all ride road bikes so think we will hire mountain bikes or gravel bikes instead, thanks so much love your blogs too 😀
There's great road and off road riding. When you know where you will be based , let me know. I can suggest some great road routes as well . People seem to prefer the gravel 'stuff' so thats why i have focused on that . However like most riders, i actually do a bit of both. Stay in touch and thanks for your lovely comments.
