I am a former mountain biker who is awaiting heart surgery and you have inspired me to get an allroad bike, for my post surgery rehab, your videos are very informative and make me want to get out now on some shorter rides while I wait for my Op.
As a former mtb rider you will love Long Dale . Its quick physical so leave this one as part of your rehab' eh? The trails are much easier. I wish you a speedy recovery and welcome you to this lovely group . If you need help selecting a route , please ask.
Yep go down the trail towards Middleton Top- past Harborough Rocks; cross the small road and turn left before the cottage ( at the top of the hill ) . I think it’s signposted Grangemill . It’s best to do it that way round - more rideable . Enjoy
Hey that's my theme tune! 🤣🤣🤣 The white peak offers loads of gravel options, or 90s MTB routes as they are in my head 😜. Have you done the climb out of long dale, turn right after you reach Gratton dale, meets the road at Pike hall. That's a challenging one. Cleared it ....once 🥵. Another quality ride in the 'hood.
Is that the bog/ rock fest route lol? Yep done that a few times. Most people , unless they're are cx riders and enjoy a bit of running, hate that route. I did a sportive which came up that and many were moaning so I vowed I'd never use it in a vid'. My route in is actually quite nice on my 45mm tyres :-)))) Love 90s Mtb routes . Thanks for your comments.
@@JuliePhelanExplore ua-cam.com/video/pzlVMfjUg5c/v-deo.html long dale is from about 4min the climb is just after. This is five years ago, look at the rubbish quality 😂
Thanks for sharing these rides, as a result of watching I am staying near Monyash in a couple of weeks to explore some of the trails you’ve shown. Great videos by the way.
Thanks Mark. Monyash is a great base. Need any help with route ideas, just ask. You'll be really close to Hurdlow on the High Peak Trail/ Pennine Bridleway
Thank you, I have enjoyed this video. I live 120 miles form the Peak District and would love to cycle ther again soon. Last time I was there I rode my Brompton around the Hope Valley. I was working and my Brompton lives in my car boot. Lots of your filming is like being there.
You can get onto the verge at the side. It was muddy but very do able. This ride is more technical than some of my routes. I used 45mm mud tyres which I am using all the time at the moment. They roll fairly well and open up the ‘options’ . Are you doing the event from Buxton tomorrow?
@Julie Phelan no unfortunately I have to run 33km at a steady pace. Manchester marathon training. Out on the bike Sunday though. Really enjoyed the Glorious gravel ride last week at Cannock Chase
@@Ecoroof1986 I can relate to that. I also run but only for fun. As I am doing the UCI race, late May, I am having to 'ring fence' key cycling sessions so running just has to fit it! Have fun. I hope it goes well.
Julie, just discovered your channel - love it!! I'm right at the start of the High Peak trail before that initial climb and the one from Cromford (so I have both to do). My main love has been mountain biking most of my life but I do a little road biking too. I'm interested in getting a gravel setup, a lot of the more affordable setups say up to a 40mm tyre but I noticed you mentioned wider in the video, how do you think a 40mm tyre would do on this route? Any recommendations for an ok sub £1000 gravel bike?
Thank you for your great comments. 40mm will do the job. Why not have a look at a Sonder Aluminium Camino? It may be worth checking out the website. There is a Camino Face Book group. It may be worth putting a few questions on there. Other makes possibly to look at include Marin,Genesis and Kona. I can only really recommend what I know about. Happy hunting.
@@JuliePhelanExplore thanks Julie! Very helpful and I’ve found this very exciting finding your channel and seeing new local routes on my doorstep. I'm charging the Garmin tonight to throw the routes on and will give them a whirl on the MTB before I select a gravel bike. Hope to see you out on the trail! Enjoy and I look forward to more great (and funny) content. Cheers!
Thank you. I am on the Ti Camino indeed, but I am on 700c wheels. The tyres in this video are technically 45mm but on the rims I'm using measure up as 47mm. The bike will take 50mm tyres but for the sort of riding I often do, I like a bit more clearance. I have a video about the bike and wheels you could check out. If you need anymore info' please ask.
Hi Darren, it's a Sonder Titanium Camino. In this video ( Long Dale ) I am on 45mm tyres - Cinturato M s . Check out the video (see link below) . I believe the bike is sold with full GRX now. I did upgrade the wheels. ua-cam.com/video/JL-hYLShoAY/v-deo.html

Great to see you during the filming at Middleton Top (I was the guy on the 2.8” tyres). Will look at this route, I like the look of it
Great to see you too. I think you'll like it.Go for it!
That was rather good !!!
Thank you, it's a rather good ride. It has a sprinkle of all the things I like about off road riding.
Thanks Julie, some new trails for me. We live west of the Peak and so this will be a nice ride from Parsley Hay car part.

The white roads of Derbyshire, looks great - well apart from all of that climbing 😂
Come on ' Grumpy Old Man' , you'd love it lol

Nice one. Just downloaded the route. 674m of climb wow. Looked pretty dry well apart from that big puddle
