What a cheap ass, lowballing, let's take advantage of ppl and the expensive as hell hardware they spent their hard earned money on. This place offered $317 for an open box, never used, still under warranty ASUS R/S 3080TI...... dirtbags!!!
Didn't turn on afmf for avatar or starfield, or any game people ACTUALLY play, much less test. You're so clearly TRYING to make the 4080 relevant. Make it more obvious you actually care to see the nvidia card on top. Literally only used AFMF in Alan wake and cyberpunk, so were only gonna use afmf in the games the nvidia cards are favored in so you don't tell people the real deal? If anyone even plays these games I'd be shocked but yaknow. Avatar included. That said if you pick normal titles people ACTUALLY play that already beat the 4080 at a decent fps in most cases the 7900XTX is as fast if not faster than a 4090 in due to afmf now I don't get the absolute lack of talking about this or intentional negligence towards it from people. Nvidia paying yall? Or you scared you won't get sent any more cards or something? Didnt turn on AFMF in the games people do actually play like COD and stuff where the framegen lag would b 5ms and souble the performance of the 4080 after you spent the first half of the video attempting to make it look better. F***, man. Good job using all of the nvidia card and half of the xtx really appreciate the realistic insight to the full potential. You don't think a 95%performance boost is a good enough step up when nvidia dropped the same card at your own admission? Oh yeah, you forgot to use that setting alongside RT. How funny. The 4080 is irrelevant and you best hope you not get pregnant d**kriding them that hard saying you'd still buy a 4080 over the xtx after that
Just bought a 7900xt for 770 euro. 4070ti super is 900+ here, 4080 super 1100+. No way im going to give ngreedia my money, learned that buying the 30xx series.
How the hell you pay $700 plus dollars for a card you can’t fully utilize you literally have to turn shit off in order to get a decent game play.. raytracing ain’t goin no where & Amd cards struggle cards struggle big time which means you are limiting yourself & now it’s just not the features and raytracing there getting beat at now it’s also raster since these super cards release which now makes Amd a terrible value it doesn’t win in anytime lol
Here on the Netherlands the 7900 XTX is available for 929 euro and the 4080 super for 1119 euro. Almost 200 euro difference making the AMD card pretty attractive

Why? You don't have to turn everything to the max you know? If you use reasonable settings and leave off ray tracing most cards can run it fine. Flexibility in game engines is great, I love games that are able to run on affordable hardware yet stress out the high end. And let's be honest in two years/graphics card generations we will be running the game at 144 FPS at max settings.
1200 euro for a graphic card should NOT be giving you such low fps honestly but since people will keep buying for some reasons anyway we will never get lower prices ever. Its the Apple syndrom at that point if someone can get away with selling 1k+ things with little upgrade (nvidia) why woulndt the others do it as well @@dannonyogurt98
In central europe the 4080S is just 5.5% more expensive(~70$) than the 7900XTX. Cheapest AIB is the Inno3D GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER X3 for 1272$ with taxes. What's up with Australia and UK people from there always complaining about insane NV prices.
@@Grstrangler The Inno3D 4080S is $1950AUD and the Hellhound 7900XTX is $1549, that's $400 cheaper but I would never buy an Inno3D card because it doesn't match my build and because its an Inno3D card. $400 difference that's why people complain.
Yes, it was called the 3080. So only last generation. But that was during mining boom when nobody could buy video cards at MSRP. Unfortunately Nvida and AMD are selling their cards today at the prices they would go for during the mining craze and that's already over.
Funny thing is, that in Poland RTX 4080 Super is actually cheaper than RTX 4080. Prices are (from cheapest to most expensive): - RTX 4080 - 1406$ - 1657$ (normal AiO) and 1730$ (water AiO) - RTX 4080 Super - 1220$ - 1394$ The problem would be volume and how popular new cards would be. To get comparison prices of RX 7900 XTX are: - 1143$ for ASRock Phantom OC - 1183$ for PowerColor Hellhound Spectral White - 1381$ for Sapphire Nitro+ OC I'm interested how would those change in a month. Now I don't thing anyone would go and buy RTX 4080. Price is so much different between RX 7900 XTX and with conversion to PLN it is even higher (around 850 PLN between cheapest models). RTX 4080 Super is better, but I still think those cards cost too much and EU tax is killing us even more. I'm waiting for new generation, because prices are too big and I want a little lower power consumption with performance around RX 7900 XT/RTX 4070 Ti Super.
yeah, the cost is the same here in Norway, the EU tax is really a setback. ive just ordered a new pc for myself and i want to go team green but the 200 usd premium while wanting to keep the cost down, im leaning towards amd but then theres the potensial driver instability that can come with amd.. i did end up ordering a ASRock Phantom OC but i am left with a thought if ive made the right choice or not. hopefully ill be happy with it once it arrives.

Appreciate the work you've done here, this made my decision to go with a 4080S over the XTX pretty easy (they're priced right on top of eachother in Canada). 4080S Gigabyte Gaming OC arrived yesterday and it didn't take very long to realize it's simply a better GPU. Agree 100% the XTX needs to exist at least 200USD cheaper as otherwise the savings are unlikely to feel worth it when you're already paying 1K USD. Didn't realize how much I appreciated the nvidia software either - love having broadcast back for proper noise cancellation.
Thank you so much for all your reviews! I'm building my first PC and I've been following your channel for a few months now. Picked up my 4080s this morning and I can't wait for it to arrive!!
I upgraded to a 7900xtx from a Nvidia GTX 1080. It was a legendary card for me and lasted from 2017 to 2024. Went with the xtx to ensure I get the same longevity out of an expensive gpu
My only concern as someone who likes to get many years (I upgraded to a 7900 XTX from a 390X) out of my GPU and who tends to play AAA titles months to years after the fact is ultimately the VRAM differences. 16GB vs 24GB ... will it matter 6-8 years down the road?
I'm guessing current consoles have about 14gb or so of usable unified VRAM (16 minus about 2 for OS) But they 'Target' 4k as a base now so if u don't mind lowering your res in the future you might not need so much. But might also help if we see unoptmized/broken titles. 8 years from now we'll be half way through next gen and might see a PS6 Pro. I expect next gen to have 24-36GB VRAM, as they at least always double, but 24 is aloooot. So I would guess and say 24GB is definitely the minimum if you want to be set for 6-8 years. Also depends on how you feel about the more niche things regarding their pros and cons AMD: Save a bit of money Wayyyy More VRAM Better software with adrenaline People claim it ages better Might release future features NVIDIA releases with better support for old cards NVIDIA: Runs cooler Better software support for more niche titles/software Better at Ai workloads Better at raytracing Might come out with a new feature/technology that AMD will have to wait to recreate (Ex: New feature only available on Rtx 5000 and 4000 gen cards) That's how I'm trying to decide.
Nah the guy on the video has a bad take. You are right. Vram buffer is the most important thing if you wanna maintain longevity of the gpu. In 3 years from now, 16gb is gonna be not enough. 7900xtx would be. I'm still deciding on which one to buy, but the 7900xtx is hard to ignore at such a low price with so much power. Nvidia has better software technology but at the end of the day, we can update software but not the hardware like we like to
It reminds me when everyone was saying 4GB is enough VRAM for anyone. Anyone who fell for that and didn't get the 8GB versions found their card bottlenecking within a few short years.
I can't believe I'm going to say this Rtx 4080 super is the perfect graphics card right now 999$ and you can play at 1440p with ray tracing at any heavy game Or 4k native but without ray tracing or 4k with ray tracing but with dlss balance ( or fg if you want to use it) 7900xtx really lose it in ray tracing and in power consumption Even on performance without ray tracing because it's only 5% who care Dlss is better than fsr so rtx 4080 s is the wise choice
Even then still terrible price..with super only bein a 999.99 with better overall performance along with the extras..that will only make it $100 difference. needs to be $699
I use both GPU brands (RTX4080 and RX7900XTX) but with DLSS 3.5 Nvidia GPU produce better images imho. The main issue is not the brand of the GPU, the main issue is that devs are more used to nvidia tech than rdna technology. In most games the RX 7900XT will provide more fps than the RTX, but in simulations like MSFS and X-Plane 12, the RTX is way faster because of the inner code.
@@NeVErseeNMeLikEDisI don't see Nvidia or even AMD going back to pre-Covid inflation prices ever again. So you'd probably be looking at 70 series in the future.
As JayzTwoCents mentioned in his video he released today, he thinks that the AIB's might put their 4080 Super cards out at $1200 if they do like they did with the 4080 non-super where they were putting them out for like $1500.... roughly $300 above MSRP. The 4080 Super founder's edition cards are pretty much gone, they didn't make many of them. So the 7900XTX might be the way to go anyway because of the AIB prices if you're picking between the two. Maybe it won't be $300 over but we'll have to see what the AIB's do.
@@1984Captive Yeah, all this launch really does a good job of is make people who bought the 4080 non-super feel like fools. The super will be cheaper overall than the original 4080 for basically the same card, but not down to the price of a 7900XTX unless you can get an elusive FE. There's no way anyone with a 4080 non-super should be buying the super either. Now if people didn't have a 40 series card, and wanted a super, and were lucky enough to get one of the relatively few FE 4080 super cards, not bad. $200 cheaper than the old 4080 MSRP and $500 cheaper than most 4080 AIB models. But the launch is only good for a small niche of people.
Question: I'm not from the US but my uncle currently traveling there and I asked him to bring me an 7900xtx when he comes back (on February 20)... Do you guys think that the 7900xtx price could significantly drop in just less than 20 days or nah? I ask because I'm trying to pick the right time to buy it.
I am very surprised that AMD didn't drop the price on the XTX for this launch. Maybe they are betting on the 4080 super selling out very quickly. But if not, NVIDIA seems to offer the better deal at this price point. Never thought I would say that.
XTX sales are very strong and so they don't feel they need to do anything. Most likely AMD is cutting prices to AIBs behind the scenes so that prices will better stay closer to $900 than $1000. That's really all they need to do for that SKU. XTX at $900ish and XT at $750ish will sell fine. As for the 4080 Super, it's not like everyone is going to line up to pay $200-300 extra for the same performance with 50% less VRAM in 2024. And as far as 16 GB being "enough," CP2077 with the 4K texture packs already takes up 24 GB VRAM *now*. Not 5 years from now. There are at least 5 games I've played over the last year that take 16 GB with all the bells and whistles enabled which I hope you would be using on a card at this price point. Again, that is *now*, not 2, 3, 4 years from now. If you're going to be trading off your purchase in a couple of years, go for your life. But if you want your graphics card to be an investment, the XTX is a no-brainer.
@@LukewarmEnthusiast at $900 I can see the XTX being competitive, but you can make an argument that the ray tracing performance is also a good future investment. Personally, I'm with you and I got a 7900 Xt. I'm just saying that it's not a no-brainer win for AMD anymore like it used to be

Haven't had a want to play CP2077 tech demo so all good there. The XTX keeps up with the 30 series in ray-tracing and even the 4070ti and below. Overall just run RT at lower res or adjust the settings like PC players have done for decades. Majority of games still have no ray tracing. Especially if you play anything online or play older/indie games.

From playing on both 21:9 and 16:9 over the past years, UW results usually just sit smack in between the different 16:9 resolutions. FOV affects things a little dependind on how aggressively the engine is culling. Especially RT scales pretty linear with render resolution pixel count until you hit VRAM limits.
I just ordered a 4080 super, I play on a 4k screen and want to use 4k, and I care a lot about RT performance, and so far DLSS is better than FSR (but it's getting closer and closer, i wonder if fsr might even surpass it at some point). But I should say that I was already intending to buy a 4080 even before I heard of the new super series going to be released despite the insane prices... well now i get one for a bit better price, I was also considering the 4070 Ti Super but after it was released it wasn't as much better than the 4070 Ti as I had hoped and also where I live the prices are the same and even price overlap so there are a lot of fancy 4070 Ti and 4070 TI Super (Asus strix and such) that cost about the same as a mid range 4080 super... and some fairly mid range and common 4070 TI Super (asus TUF) were selling for just $150 less than the 4080 super I ordered.
Dude, if u use upscaling at 4k, ur actually playing at 2k. The 4080 cant handle its own features without upscaling. Meaning: u are paying a 4k premium price for a 1440p card.
@@Greenalex89why so black and white? depends on what game and what graphics settings and what fps i feel is acceptable... like in cyberpunk2077, no you can't run it on full rt (not to even mention pathtracing) in 4k native with playable framerates. I probably won't use pathtracing much but even if i use psycho or ultra rt lighting and all RT functions on, i'd need to run it at a lower scale, usually i fiddle with this on my own via dlss tweak to set something good for each game, some games are fine at dlaa (native res going through the dlss engine), but you can set what ever internal resolutions you want so you don't have to play at "quality" which is 1440p from 4k as it is x0.66667... (1/1.5) of native, balanced is x0.5882353... (it's 1/1.7), but i can choose something in between like 0.625 (1/1.6), a small number of games have "ultra quality" which is x0.76923.. (1/1.3), but maybe I want to play at x0.75 which seemds more round (1/1.33333...) or x0.8 (1/1.25), I can even run DLAA horizontally and dlss vertically setting the internal resolution manually to 2880x2160 (the native is 3840x2160 on standard 4k), this works great in many games and even completely got rid of unsightly dlss ghosting in rdr2 when i played it on my 2070 Super (which is what i had until an hour ago when i got and installed my 4080 super).Sure in many games I will play it in native of course in such a powerful card, but DLSS is still a necessity for many very demanding games when on 4k. (though interestingly the last of us pc edition ran really well on my 2070 Super in native 4k, but i had to lower some settings to not go exceed the available vram.
Basically, if you hate RT and will never use it on principal, don't get the brand that puts focus on it. If you do want to use RT, go with the brand that cares about it.
The brand that "cares about it" cares so they can justify putting tensor cores in their gpu. Raytracing is a gimmick for the next 10 years, as Nvidia admits in their presentations. AMD wastes as little silicon on it as possible.

I was hoping to stop being soo addicted to watching benchmark videos but still seem to gradually watch these to confirm whether purchasing decision was accurate. I was primarily an old school gamer playing mostly retro videogame console backlog. It took me months trying to figure out the current pc jargon of what is bare minimum admirable. I initially got a second hand 3060 and at 1080p runs brilliantly, although the monitors in my setup are mostly 4k for tv and productivity, only 1 being a 24inch 1920x1080 75hz monitor. The landscape to traverse in todays pc gaming world with FSR/DLSS/Frame generation/Upscaling/Native/Ray Tracing/Path Tracing... and then comparing charts among charts is quite arduos. I was hoping to curb this journey by getting imo the second best gpu card in the world but somehow I have continued to watch more benchmark videos... Great video by the way! I think it's mainly to confirm purchasing decision...
You will never stop. Then the new cards will launch in 10 months and Nvidia will advertise how 'sh*t' your card performs compared to its successor, it will have a bunch of new software features that you will be told are unavailable to your model because of 'hardware limitations '. And you will watch all the Hardware Unboxed videos on the 50 series cards, looking down the list of models to see yours struggling to stay in the top 35% of the chart and you will feel bad. It will begin to eat at you, and so you will start watching more benchmarking videos of the new GPUs. Eventually you will convince yourself that it will be worthwhile to upgrade. This is the way 😆

It hits me wrong that GPUs north of $600 require upscaling for playable frame rates (with RT enabled) and the less powerful GPUs that could really benefit from upscaling are not powerful enough to use it well. I went from an EVGA 1080Ti FTW3, a 4K 120hz 55" TV and playing GW2 (no RT possible) to a 7900XTX HellHound. All the eye candy and an avg of 30 FPS more. i know this is months old but still relevant. i actually went with the PNY xlr8 4080 super ($1020) over the powercolor hellhound 7900XTX ($820) at the time of writing my comment here. it was prime day deals. I was going to get the $989 non aRGB PNY verto card but figured at that point just spend a few bucks more get the fancier version. I'm also coming from an EVGA 2080, anything is a major upgrade at this point. You are right, these cards last years unless you're a pay pig to GPU manufacturers and upgrade every 2 years, and at that price point just go for the better one. I would love to support amd (i actually had the 5700 XT red devil at one point) but its clear nvidia is going to keep winning in the technology dept. I almost grabbed the 7900 xtx for price to performance + vram, especially since they're no longer focusing on high end for now with the 8000 series. sure i can wait for 5000 series but it doesn't seem at this time that they're going to be a major jump, plus since Nvidia decided to just start discontinuing everything to almost force you into their latest series (and assist all the scalpers who will buy everything up), if i keep waiting i'll end up never upgrading, waiting and waiting. I just don't want to deal with high prices and having to play a game to get a new card. i remember people trying to get ps5s and XSXs, i was helping family and friends try to get one by jumping into queues, refreshing store pages, scripts with stock alerts all that. not worth it, and i'm not doing it for the 5000 series. anyways thanks for the videos dan, new to your channel and i like your stuff so far.
The 1% lows alone makes this the easiest choice ever, 4080 super all the way, not even a match with those 1% lows stuttering, also considering every other nvidia advantage with RT perfomances and far superior upscaller and frame generation. 7900xtx wont compete with 4080 super if they dont drop the prices, and even if they drop the price by 100 still doest not justify saving 100 dolars for all the subpar features above, and especialy those 1%'s.
They had okey 1% low but they fcked up something and it takes ages for them to fix something. God only knows what the f are they doing and why it takes so long. Im using amd but man, they need to step up and be serious, they have enough money to hire people for drivers
I think hes useing a bad bin 7900 xtx and i god bin 4080 cause i have 7900 xtx Sapphire pulse matched with 14600k and 4600 ddr 4 ram im consistently beating his 7900 xtx scores by 15% +at 4k and 1440p
if the prices are equal it's a no-brainer for the 4080S. equal raster performance, superior RT performance, access to superior upscaling and frame gen, and lower power draw (leading to lower temps).
they're absolutely not the same in rasterization. My rig vs my girlfriends rig, all things identical aside from our cards and my 7900xtx is much better. Something is off about this comparison, atleast in raster testing.
@@stealth-x2995 it really depends on the game but as you can see in this 42 game benchmark test ua-cam.com/video/MIMc1O7oaN4/v-deo.html amd is only 5% faster in 1440p and 8% faster in 4k, might as well just get nvidia imo
For AFMF, do you enable HYPR-RX with it? Radeon Boost withing HYPR-RX is meant to be paired with AFMF to counter AFMF dynamically disabling it'self during fast motion by enabling Boost (Dynamic Resolution) only where there's camera movement. Also, Moore's Law Is Dead would be happy to have you on his Broken Silicon Podcast! And as a view for both of you, I and many others would love to see you on there if you aren't too busy!
It might, but tbh I would rather just use a controller with AFMF bcuz Radeon Boost is disgusting and in some other games like DOTA (for example, but basically top down view games) AFMF doesn't turn off.
Thanks for the test, it clarified a lot for me. Although I would often choose AMD, in this case it is definitely better to take the 4080 super than the 7900xtx
If you have a 4080 with a decent PCB then open Afterburner, set VRAM to +1300 and Core +150, hit apply and there you go, same or better performance than a 4080 Super. Of course you can also tweak a 4080 Super but the point still stands.
The points doesn't stand cause u can do the same with the 4080 super, ergo, they will never be the same. Why u even would to buy a 4080 super having a 4080 KEK.
Your reviews are the absolute best. I think us viewers find that very valuable, so thank you! All these other channels who have been doing this forever got nothing on you
I feel bad for ngreedia meat riders spending 200 dollars more to buy the same product with less vram and RT which is like only in 2 games that's really useful. If they are the same price, by all means, but only in USA that's the case.
@@deheimer Same product? Don't be ridiculous. In Europe the price difference is $100. The more stable drivers alone would be worth the extra cost. You get superior upscaling, working frame generation and as an icing on the cake 50% more ray tracing performance. Not to mention the difference in compute performance when doing anything related to AI content creation. No, it's not the same product.

@@kzxkzxkzx (comment sponsored by Nvidia) You get a bunch of useless crap at minimum 10 percent higher cost for the same general performance. Only idiots think that's worth
I'm so sick of Ray tracing being the end all be all of these GPUs. First off DLSS and FSR both have problems that I can't stand because they both utilize some form of TAA that modern games seem to have adopted/preferred over other forms of AA, that has ultimately made games look incredibly blurry. If you're a 4k gamer TAA essentially ruins the crisp experience, and at times removes detail in games. Raster is still king in my opinion, and if you have the option to disable RT please do it, I guarantee your experience will be 10x better without ray tracing, because the performance hit is far too big for the visual improvement that you're getting. Secondly frame generation may look good on paper because the FPS graph says it's higher, but in the real world it doesn't feel or look better as an actual use case. I'd rather play at 60FPS without frame generation, because the latency is simply better than playing at 100FPS with frame generation on, especially in first person shooter scenarios. Thirdly, it took Nvidia a year to respond to the 7900 XTX, and the normal non-Super 4080 is still sitting around $1200, meaning they'll just sit on shelves collecting dust, essentially making Nvidia's board partners lose a lot of money in the process. Seems time and again Nvidia is constantly showing why EVGA made their decision to cut their partnership. Lastly, it really looks like the 7900 XTX is coming down in price, I'm seeing open box deals for the XTX on Newegg for $849 as of 2/5/24, I'm done buying into Nvidia's BS.
@@trentpa9226 Oh ya, I own a 7950x3d and still running an old RTX2080super. Waiting to upgrade the gpu. I asked a fair question, do first person shoot type of game required raytracing? It's a valid question. Or youtuber are too cool to provide feedback?

Daniel: Fantastic job on these "super" tests! For me, I'm just going to stick to my Ampere 3070 ti, and see what Blackwell and RDNA 4 have to offer. AMD probably needs to drop prices a little bit on XTX, either way, love these videos.
In my country the cheapest XTX is $910 right now, while the cheapest 4080S is $1,168. I already have a nice 7900 GRE in my system so not buying any GPU's anytime soon, but in the hipotetic I had that kind of money to spend I was really thinking for this high end of a GPU I better go with Nvidia. After seeing the size of the price gap the 7900XTX is too good to pass up and it's not even a competition for me.
Thank you so much, this was exactly the comparison I wanted to see. Especially since you're so thorough in measurement and observant to detail in the results. This video really helps clarify my buying decision. Thanks again.
At that price point you are supposed to be getting all the bells and whistles. Getting DLSS and better RT performance is worth the 50$. Take the L AMD and lower the price. (I say that as someone that has had AMD in every gen except RDNA 3, for some reason you have to disclose that nowadays to criticize a product before anyone says anything).
It is definitely worth it even before looking at the benchmarks. Wanna know why? No influencer will tell y'all. Because WoW on DX12 is literally unplayable for MULTIPLE MONTHS and AMD has fixed absolutely NOTHING. They have communicated nothing as well, despite tons of people constantly reporting their driver timeouts. No ETA on the fix, no workarounds, nothing. Just switch to DX11 and hopefully you won't crash as much. THREE MONTHS now I've spent way too many hours troubleshooting, fresh installing, DDUing, whatever you can think about. No. For just $50 bucks, just go with NVIDIA. And never trust reviewers, none of them ever mentioned that there's a chance the games you play will never get fixed. 7 good years with my 1060 6GB I never had any issues.
@@leovanlierop4580 Not in this Video here. Maybe when i play it by myself i can see a difference. But actually the difference is too small for me when i have to compare it with the massive performance-loss.

I'd probably say that if you don't care too much about ray tracing and what your future electricity bills might cost then possibly go for the AMD. I noticed some instances the AMD spiking to nearly 400w of power, which is nuts. I'd possibly buy a AMD XTX myself but that kind of power usage puts me off personally. Also, unknown how much it will use when idle when doing desktop tasks. Even if they reduced the AMD a tad more, I still don't think I'd be interested because my purchase would be based on something I would want to use for years to come. It seems the average wattage in games for the AMD appears to be around the 350w mark, whilst the Nvidia, in most titles, the wattage is generally less or has big dips in comparison. But, each to their own I guess.
Only average consumption matters in the power bill. Yes XTX still consumes a bit more, but the difference is trivial in terms of money saved on the electricity.
Literally Pennies on the dollar . It really isn’t that big of a deal . It’s .13 cents a kw where I’m from in the USA . I charge my car everyday and it’s only 10 $ more on my electricity bill
Which driver was being used with the amd card? Alan wake 2 received a quite noticeable performance bump with the 23.11.1 driver and I think also a slight bump with the 24.1.1.
How are we even here!? Back in 2007 we had crysis coming out that could use sli and the 2 cards back then might cost you a grand if you liquid cooled. Here we are in 2024 and none of the 1000 dollar gpu's can max out your game and make it look amazing, instead you spend 2 grand on a 4090 and you are still left wanting. This is ridiculous!! The GPU market is straight trash!!! Makes me not want to build shit these days, gaming is not what it used to be for sure. We are getting screwed by hard ware companies and gaming companies, it's only going to get worse too. Just really sad to see the old days and how tech progressed but now we are just idling and not really going anywhere.
XTX is leading in some games, because it also draws 15-25% more power. Right now XTX is not good value. at 899$ will be far more competitive, because you get a tiny bit more raster performance (in some games) and more VRAM, but the feature set is lacking.
$50 is pretty optimistic. New 4080 Super is at least $200 higher. Raytracing is the only advantage and doesn't make enough visual differences to make it worthwhile, especially since few games support it.
Basically if you want to use raytracing, dlss, or streaming (nvidia encoding) buy a 4080, if you only care bout fps and your games dont require ai upscaling or raytracing then buy a 7900xtx
Already decided to sell my RX 7900 XTX for an RTX 4080 Super. At 1440p the 24GB VRAM on XTX is useless and the rasterization performance in most singleplayer titles between an RTX 4080 Super and an RX 7900 XTX is negligible, yet RTX 4080 Super has advantage in some e-sport titles, has much better RT performance in games with actual good RT implementations, and its features like DLSS and nvdec are so much better than shabby Flickery Shimmering Resolution and AMF
7900XTX has been £900-£950 for a year now in the UK. Meanwhile, the 4080 was selling at around £1250. Prices for the 4080S still not released in the UK but it usually follows the same numerical value as dollars (despite the exchange rate). We shall see in a few weeks I guess.
I feel that the 4080s is a safer bet. The 7900xtx doesn't do upscaling as well or ray tracing. It dies on path tracing. I think it is slightly faster in raster and maybe software RT like luman, but it doesn't dominate the 4080s. I also love Alan Wake 2 and other games in the remedy connected universe. I think you should add in ratchet and klank or forespoken just so you have a direct storage game. From what I can tell the 4070tis is a little better bang for the buck than the 4080s.
No GPU is safe buy ATM , future games are all UE 5 and its hardware requirements are different , best to wait for next gen guys. I'm holding on to rx6800 for now ,
if the 4080 had a 320 bit buss and 20gb of vram , it would be a no brainer .. 16gb is enough for now but in the future for 4k gaming with Rt and frame gen, its going to be limiting . on top of the bigger bus improving performance by a bit . Sadly nvidea doesnt want to give us more bus size
If MSRP is something to go by, 7900XTX is pointless. No one should buy it. The VRAM difference is also irrelevant because if the GPU is simply slow, no amount of VRAM can save you. It's apparent with 4070Ti Super.
I don't care how cheap it is, I dont want half ass RayTRacing, FrameGen and DLSS copy cat from AMD,Got my self a MSi Expert 4080Super and Supreme X 4080super and Jawa want to pay me $255 for my Rog Strix 3080 haha, I rather it sit in the closer and collect dust haha
I have to agree with your analysis. That's why I went and bought the 4080 Super today. A $50 discount is not enough for me to pick the AMD 7900 XTX. If the AMD GPU cost between $800-850 I probably would have gone for that instead but it wasn't. AMD just isn't doing enough to compete and they KNEW the 4080 Super was dropping today. So what are they doing in the market?
Good video, skipped to the end for pricing because 4080S=4080. The 1% lows and lower temps are nice but I went for the $799 newegg 7900xtx back in October and its been excellent. Even better than the 3080 $699 launch price in 2020.
Lol I just bought a 4080 super for 1049 and a motherboard and ddr5 ram for about $120 more than I paid for just my normal 4080. So I'm super happy. Finally get rid of this ddr4 motherboard and ram.
most of the games cannot run ray tracing without downscaling. in my opinnion i cannot spend 1000$ on a gpu and use dlss or fsr. since rt takes 50% of the performance for not so dramatic difference i preffered the 7900xtx. upgraded from a 4070ti.
$999 4080 Super FE is a banger. Far better RT, better upscaler, and Nvidia using 100w less power in some of those games. Nvidia is the clear winner here.
in some countries using 100W less power might be actually reasonable point. 4080s is extremely energy-efficient compared to xtx, while also being better cooled
@@lifemocker85 ehem. my 4090 sits at 350W just fine. it is not exclusively amd who can be undervolted and power-limited. I guess, 4080s can work at 210W level without any problems too
You should compare the gpu's on the same TGP/TDP, the 4080 super is kinda at a disadvantage though it still has headroom when given a gracious headroom on the power delivery..
I'm already running out of VRAM at 1440p with my RX 6800 / 16GB. Throw in ray-tracing and the same amount of VRAM though for twice the price? Nvidia can keep their overpriced lower-mid-range cards.
My goodness, is your research thorough or what? :) I watched your videos for a couple of years now and I get so much information out of them that it sometimes scares me. Anyway, my question is: do you think that AMD will come around with something really gamechanging in the next few years considering downscaling technology and RT? I remember when FSR was hyped like nothing two years ago but honestly, until today I gnash my teeth when I have to use it as the picture quality becomes average to sometimes even horrible (scenes with a lot of detail and small movements in particular). The feeling is that they are still two or thre generations behind. Nvidia's RT technology is just so much better. I am asking because I think about kicking my good ol' faithful 6900XT for a 4080 as I will also move to 4K in the next months most likely. As I didn't have another current card from Team Green until now, I guess that I can also take a 4080 Super without any danger, as the "old" 4080 still costs roughly the same... Nvidia and their ripoff business model...
I have a 5700 XT. It’s a great card and the drivers have made better. With some scaled down graphics I get 70 fps in games like RDR2 and GTA V. Mine craft with everything cranked up over 100fps. Brotato runs great as well. There are plenty of games that are fun and do not require a beefy graphics card. That being said, I eager to try Nvidia for a while. 4080 super is going to be great. I think dlss and FG are superior to Amd, but let’s not forget Amd FSR is compatible with Nvidia cards as well. So should FSR become better than DLSS you can use it. I live next to a micro center. Life is good
It's still meh all around, but AMD _HAD_ to know the 4080 super was going to make the XTX look bad because they already knew exactly what the 4080 was. When AMD is winning they're _barely_ winning, but when Nvidia is winning they're absolutely decimating the XTX. You can get away with that when you're $200 cheaper but looks terrible when you're around the same price. AMD could have proactively dropped it's price to steal some of Nvidia's thunder, but in typical AMD fashion you can always count on them to wait until _after_ they look foolish before they react. 🤦 Cmon AMD.
@@lifemocker85 It's brainless comments like this that make you AMD fanboys insufferable. What part of "When AMD is winning they're barely winning, but when Nvidia is winning they're absolutely decimating the XTX." did you not understand? Did you even watch the video? There's never a time AMD is far enough ahead to where you would really notice. There's plenty of times Nvidia is fucking _destroying_ them. And that's NOT just in RT. Often when AMD has slight leads in average fps in non-rt games, Nvidia is still killing them in 1% lows, and that matters FAR more than averages to feel like smooth gameplay. And keep in mind one of those rt games is an AMD sponsored title they're getting schooled in. Now account for AMD's cheaper memory (16gb of gddr6x costs more than 24gb of gddr6), cheaper die, inferior upscaling, inferior FG, and terrible VR, you realize it's not Nvidia being greedy. AMD has notably fatter margins on the XTX than the 4080 super. Nvidia is still overpriced, yes, but the XTX is insultingly overpriced. And if you don't think AMD is greedy, just take a look at Threadripper pricing to see what AMD does the second they're ahead. If they released the 4090 and not Nvidia I guarantee it would have had a $2000 MSRP. RDNA3 is a flop. They didn't perform anywhere near where they were supposed to but AMD still charged like they did. There's should NEVER be a time when Nvidia's $550 4070 beats a $950 xtx, but it does in some scenarios, and sometimes even _LAST_ gen cards. That's unacceptable on a thousand dollar flagship, and looks like Arc launch drivers when AMD falls flat on their face. The only thing that makes it better is Nvidia is even more overpriced, but at least with Nvidia there's no compromises. THAT'S why Radeon will never outsell RTX. Most people aren't mouth breathing fanboys. Even Nvidia users hate Nvidia. But once you hold your nose and pay the Nvidia tax you simply have a superior experience for the next several years, while you have to put up with worse and worse performance with AMD as more and more games utilize RT. That's not fine wine, that's rotten grape juice. The XTX shouldn't be a penny over $800.
@@justinwalker5237 stop crying, what crashes? and "all the other issues", as if nvidia doesn't have any issue.. delusional fanboy.. rt and dlss is overrated, and nvidia experience is some outdated trash.

5 years? A long time. With the development of AI and the advancement of technology, it is impossible to estimate what the next few years will be like for the gaming and technology industry. Now that there is AI, graphics and technologies are expected to evolve considerably in the coming years. As a result, new demands will arise. I don't think it makes sense to buy any video card or CPU now thinking about the next 5 years. Many things will change.

Its not cheap to do 384bit 24gb vram...when amd could done 256bit 16gb would been cheaper for amd users
For me in America, there is that same $50 price difference. It's a no-brainer for me to pay the additional $50 for access to DLSS 3 and much better raytracing performance, even if I don't usually use raytracing. I'm spending about $2000 to upgrade my system fully, and that $50 is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
When more ram is needed you already need to replace your gpu beacause it will be weak by then. 16gb is plenty and overtime your gona lower your graphics to keep up anyway, thus, lowering vram usage, the vram argument is invalidated on this gpus.
You just reinforced my point, 4k gaming will become much harder to run much faster, and the vram will not be the main factor of lower perfomance, making you lower resolution or use upscallers to boost perfomance and lowring vram usage in the process@@KaiStephens

Seeing cards priced at that much dipping below 60 that much on some modern games is honestly depressing...
Why? You don't have to turn everything to the max you know? If you use reasonable settings and leave off ray tracing most cards can run it fine. Flexibility in game engines is great, I love games that are able to run on affordable hardware yet stress out the high end.
Prices are (from cheapest to most expensive):
- RTX 4080 - 1406$ - 1657$ (normal AiO) and 1730$ (water AiO)
- RTX 4080 Super - 1220$ - 1394$
The problem would be volume and how popular new cards would be. To get comparison prices of RX 7900 XTX are:
- 1143$ for ASRock Phantom OC
- 1183$ for PowerColor Hellhound Spectral White
- 1381$ for Sapphire Nitro+ OC
I'm interested how would those change in a month.

Also depends on how you feel about the more niche things regarding their pros and cons
AMD: Save a bit of money
Wayyyy More VRAM
Better software with adrenaline
People claim it ages better
Might release future features NVIDIA releases with better support for old cards
NVIDIA: Runs cooler
Better software support for more niche titles/software
Better at Ai workloads
Better at raytracing
Might come out with a new feature/technology that AMD will have to wait to recreate
(Ex: New feature only available on Rtx 5000 and 4000 gen cards)
That's how I'm trying to decide.
1080Ti still manages with 11GB, the VRAM is not what will make those cards obsolete, performance and lack of modern features is (*cough* DLSS)
Future proofing is idiotic....
I can't believe I'm going to say this
Rtx 4080 super is the perfect graphics card right now

or 4k with ray tracing but with dlss balance ( or fg if you want to use it)
7900xtx really lose it in ray tracing and in power consumption
Even on performance without ray tracing because it's only 5% who care
Dlss is better than fsr so rtx 4080 s is the wise choice
AMD needs to go down with the prices, the 7900xtx needs to be a 899$ or 849$ card imo.

I use both GPU brands (RTX4080 and RX7900XTX) but with DLSS 3.5 Nvidia GPU produce better images imho.

Not amazing uplift, but at the time, at $900, a minimum of $300 cheaper than the 4080. My 1080Ti had no RT capability so I didn't notice the lack of RT (or care to be honest) with the 7900XTX. With the new name and $200 price cut, the 7900XTX needs to be $100-125 cheaper as well. Sorry, but Nvidia does have more mind share. Not better performance in many cases and certainly not better prices. AMD has to compete with facts as well as perception and perception is way tougher to overcome. Political rant: Lord, Trump is still not in jail for one example of perception. I'm 70, Watergate and 'Nam are current events and the parallels between two presidents attempting to keep power are scary.
i really wanted to upgrade to a 7900xtx but basically 1k dollars was just to much, i like ray tracing but the 4080 was no go at 1200+. with the extra features and ray trace performance i think i could talk my self in to a 4080super. at only 50 less theres no way i get a xtx. if they did what you suggest and hit 800 id prob have bought a xtx already. theres where amd missed a huge oppertunity, they should have dropped the price ahead of the launch.
Yup I was scanning XTX prices as well. There's no way I'm buying an XTX for 950 when the Super was coming out for 999. If the XTX was 800 I'd be an AMD XTX enjoyer today instead of a 4080 Super enjoyer. Ordered my card from Best Buy.

For AFMF, do you enable HYPR-RX with it? Radeon Boost withing HYPR-RX is meant to be paired with AFMF to counter AFMF dynamically disabling it'self during fast motion by enabling Boost (Dynamic Resolution) only where there's camera movement.

If you have a 4080 with a decent PCB then open Afterburner, set VRAM to +1300 and Core +150, hit apply and there you go, same or better performance than a 4080 Super. Of course you can also tweak a 4080 Super but the point still stands.

🤦 Cmon AMD.
ngreedia only wins in rt titles
@@zodwraith5745 only brainless things here are ngreedia pricing, rt lying marketing department and insufficient vram
@@lifemocker85 So you're calling Daniel a liar. Gotcha. Apparently you're too stupid to watch the video you're commenting on.

I agree.. 7900xtx needs to go down to $850 or less to make it a good choice now. 900 at the very most
I just bought 7900xt
Wrong card. Good luck with the crashes and all the other issues. And when the new games comes out . Be struggling with rt
@@justinwalker5237 You want me to pay 200$ extra for the 4070ti S???
LOL

So sorry.
In the UK the XTX is £110 cheaper atm at £820, vs the 4080 Super at £930. I'd only recommend the 4080 super to those who want to use raytracing with upscaling. Otherwise the 7900 XTX is the clear choice.
Does it have enough vram for the next 5 years? 1440 ultrawide
If worried about vram go for the 7900 XTX
Most likely.
3 years at top.
In 5 years it will run like the newest 60ti anyway!
Very good video comparison. I just got a 4080 super Gigabyte Super OC.
Jawa doesn't work for me as non-US resident (Live in EU)
But I keep older hardware as back-up, if I'm sure I don't need it I give it or sell it to friends/family, depending on budget and hoe high the (actual) need is... I'm not gonna feed the entitlement monster
amd is very afraid go any lower in price due to expensive vram will cause amd market shares to drop and loss $40 billion, no wonder amd giving up and leaving highend to nvidia...the vram is problematic to maintain fair pricing when amd overesitmated and over shoot on both foot ...24gb and price , it complicated a whole lot for amd when difference in performance is only 5% between 16gb 4080 vs 24gb 7900xtx...nvidia is closing gap much closer than before , even 4080 super embarrassed amd halo product with better lows fps,. Its not cheap to do 384bit 24gb vram...when amd could done 256bit 16gb would been cheaper for amd users
Got a 7900xtx for 650$ new on amazon but theyre gone at that price now
For me in America, there is that same $50 price difference. It's a no-brainer for me to pay the additional $50 for access to DLSS 3 and much better raytracing performance, even if I don't usually use raytracing. I'm spending about $2000 to upgrade my system fully, and that $50 is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Just got the 7900 xtx. When more ram is needed I won't have to buy again
When more ram is needed you already need to replace your gpu beacause it will be weak by then. 16gb is plenty and overtime your gona lower your graphics to keep up anyway, thus, lowering vram usage, the vram argument is invalidated on this gpus.
@bindxpoxt 4k uses a lot now and it's still going up as games come out.
You just reinforced my point, 4k gaming will become much harder to run much faster, and the vram will not be the main factor of lower perfomance, making you lower resolution or use upscallers to boost perfomance and lowring vram usage in the process@@KaiStephens
@@bindxpoxt And since DLSS looks is a lot better than FSR at higher upscaling factors, the image quality gap widens as well.
