Astel would've been an alright boss but when I ran in to retrieve my runes and he _one-shot_ me by flapping his tail on the ground as I was gunning for them, losing them all, I just wanted this bitch dead by any means necessary no matter how scummy. Eye for an eye, as much within my capacity as possible.
I use bloodhound fang and it wasn't too bad. It took 8 tries but he had great design. I felt like I was being rewarded for learning his patterns unlike the crucible knights who LITERALLY just randomly decide to keep combos going for minutes at a time until they hit you
I beat him first try too, and it was insanely lucky because I had like 3 flasks left when I just stumbled into the fight. Never found him quite as easy since then.
I'm not as big a fan of Placidusax as others are but yeah that attack is cool. I like how the soundtrack stops completely until the explosion goes off, where it resumes from there.
I think the aesthetics of that fight is one of the bests I've ever seen in a video game. When he disappears and turns into a cloud/lightning combo and charges from afar, that is just pure epic.
Love that move, especially cause it just stops the music for a sec and all you can hear is the crackling of thunder. Really wish we could have had an incant/ash of war of that
I finally beat Malenia last night after countless tries. In the 100s. I hated her, but now she's dead, kinda miss her. I think sometimes you only appreciate the fight once the frustration subsides. Now I view her as one of my top 10 From bosses.
they did a really good job with her boss fight imo. cool move-set and design, the contrast from the cutscenes really shows her bloom and just how much shit got real, she felt badass and the perfect boss to capture the haligtree, and she was hard af. we can call some of the stuff she pulls bs, but at the end of the day it made beating her feel that much better and she became a huge talking point as an optional boss that many view as a “you just have to fight her for the experience”.

Malenia was difficult to me primarily because of all the colors blurring together in her phase two. Makes it so hard to tell what the hell she’s doing.
Cool fight , still hate her for getting all the praise about how fearsome yet noble and brave she is when she is infact none but a coward , she cowardly poisoned almost the entirety of caelid with her scarlet rot , ruining the place and killing countless in an attempt to kill radahn , and what she got in return was an absolute beatdown from radahn that left her beaten almost to death , if not saved by a cleanrot knight that carried her beaten ass all the way from caelid to the root of the haligtree to recover
I know you hate using shields but, for anyone else who's struggling, a shield was the most consistent way that I found for dealing with Waterfowl Dance. Block the first one, roll into the second one and if you roll, or just move, in the right direction at the right time the second two flurries should miss entirely (I can't really describe exactly where to go I just kinda got a feel for it eventually). This obviously means conceding some regen to her but that's better than just dying. The runaway strategy was also effective but not much use when she starts that attack out of nowhere when you're right next to her, whereas with a shield I just had to stop two handing. I also found that just the first flurry wasn't enough for me to get scarlet rotted by the Waterfowl Dance in the second phase. Also I personally found the best strategy with Maliketh was to stay as close to him as possible and try and get behind whenever I could. Obviously he moves very fast so that's easier said than done. A lot of it comes down to RNG, if he uses his regular slashes then that's great since if you're under him they won't hit you and you can just whack away. Getting behind him is also the only consistent way I found to dodge that flurry attack he does. You can Iframe the ground shake attack he does after plunging his sword into the ground and it's a good time to get some damage in. I didn't manage to stagger him at all when I fought him (though I was using Malenia's sword so not much posture damage) so I gave up and just tried to get several light attacks in instead. I like putting my summon sign outside Maliketh and I find the attacks that kill people the most are, in the first phase, the attack where he causes boulders to go up and then fall down and, in the second phase, the mid air projectiles followed by double slash. The first is pretty easy to dodge, the boulders fall exactly where they went up from so you just stand still in a safe area until it's over, ranged builds can get in some damage too. The second is harder to dodge and you just gotta time the rolls right for s and roll under him so the second sweep doesn't hit. There's not really any trick to it. On the upside, if you roll inwards you can get some damage off afterwards.
The biggest issue I had with Mohg was learning where to stand cause bleed rocks your shit it phase 2. Otherwise he isn’t all that bad. Melenia on the other hand demands your roll timing to be spot on. I struggled with Waterfowl (as basically everyone does), 1 weird combo she has were she jumps forward and swings her sword left as right, and Her Grab. Her Sword Grab can Rot In Hell there were at least a half dozen times I had her beaten then 1 missed timed roll later I get caught with 75% and we start are dance over again. More irritating than Waterfowl in my opinion.
That’s the thing about malenia, everyone talks about waterfowl but what really makes that fight difficult is her damn life steal. Even if you block she gets her health back.
@@shis1988 the thing is even while using the Joestar Secret Techique the travel distance on waterfowl is ridiculous, so even if you outran 2 flurries she's still swiggity swooty comin' for that booty

The only game to have bested him as far as I know (considering he did fine with Sifu, Nioh, and now a solo no-summons run of Elden Ring, it's surprising honestly, he ought to give it another crack sometime, what was it he was having trouble with exactly?)
@@jahrfuhlnehm I think it was a mix of the parry timing and not having invulnerability on your dodges. But he plays the piano, and Sekiro's basically a rythm game, so I thought he'd have a blast with that. Maybe just the dodges? Old habits do die hard.
Albino will likely *never* do a "proper" Boss Ranking for Sekiro, because, by his own admission, the boss fights were the ONE part of the game he didn't like.

Only had the game 4 months but Melenia is obviously the hardest I can do stage 1 but in stage 2 her first attack kills me almost every time. 1 boss who deserves a mention is the black knife boss that gives you black knife tiche ashes in the gaol above the albanauric village. Took me atleast 30-40 attempts so difficult to hit and blood attack wrecks you
Just wait for the simulation channels to pit Malenia against bosses of other games. I can only see Midirs laser being potent enough to out-damage her healshit
I don't think Midir would do too well tbh - he's massive and his hitboxes that don't involve AoEs are extremely forgiving. So much so that Malenia, as small as she is in comparison, wouldn't get hit by most of them. Plus he's big as hell and would basically act like a big healing potion to her. I'd pay to see the Orphan of Kos against her tho
Malenia also has another bullshit mechanic up her sleeve. She can cancel her stagger into something and can stagger cancel into a waterfowl which leaves you way too close to dodge
Fun fact, the item you can use for Mohg's mid phase life steal prevents you from taking the damage but it does NOT prevent Mohg from healing. I thought that was a fun bundle of bullshit the first time I saw it.
As I do more playthroughs I get to the end at lower levels. What I didn't realize before was that not only does leveling up give you vigor and stamina etc, It also greatly improves your defense attributes. So when I was getting my A$$ kicked by Niall at level 80, I just leveled up to 90 and it made a huge difference.
I don’t think I’ve agreed with a statement more than “you can have one or the other” Melania should have either water foul or the heal, or at least make it possible to knock her out of the water foul animation
Mohg getting health for free *is* annoying, but since there's no way to stop it, that just means his HP pool is basically a little bigger than it looks. If he had like 30% higher HP, didn't heal, and went into his 2nd phase at around 75% health instead of 50%, the fight would be exactly the same. Kinda like how Midir in Dark Souls 3 really only has like 80% of the effective health his HP pool would give him, since you'll probably get a riposte on him and he takes absolutely massive damage from it.
melania can be cheesed with the blasphemous blade and mimic, she becomes stun locked through both fazes of the fight, along with the user regaining health at the same time

Elden beast took me over 30 goes nearly quit game over it. Had to respec from mylee strength build to a hybrid faith incantation build to beat it. Elden ring definitely favours players who use magic which is cool . Coming of bloodborne I loved mylee builds style.
My personal tip for malenia’s waterfowl dance, besides always defaulting to mid to long range when I’m not hitting her, is to have ‘vow of the indomitable’ on my shield. You can use it to get invincibility through her first or second dash and then roll through her from there
Finally someone who acknowledges that Malenia is the hardest boss in this game!! She is top 1, second is nameless king from ds3 of all the hardest bosses Ive faced. Took me almost 2 hrs but I enjoyed that battle
@ Gael was easy! He was weak to ice, midir was ok but he really didn’t give me a good challenge. Frieda got bodied so it was easy. Nameless king however…..Took me 80+ tries live on my channel and that victory was sweet
Malenia was definitely the hardest boss I've ever fought in Fromsofts lineup. Pretty much the same reasons too, the lifesteal and the waterfowl dance. This is the fight I finally started using all the stuff you'd usually be hoarding like a dragon till the end of the game like the Rune Arcs. Those gave me a chance, but again as soon as she did the Waterfowl dance, it still chewed through my HP. I started the fight with almost 30 Rune Arcs (I think) and came out the other end with less than 5. There were times I didn't use an Arc to try and conserve them, but those tries I never got close. All in all, I must have fought her damn near 60 times, spread out over a couple days cause I just couldn't.
I saw melania lifesteal and i immediately pulled out the butchers knife, which grants lifesteal. Said weapon also is great at staggering her, especially with mimic tear.
best way to roll on the waterfowel dance for me is wait right before she unleashes the first flurry roll to her left (your right) of her twice then roll your back left twice then roll left twice and this should put you out of the range of her but its random because she will either miss you completely or be right on top of you and that requires a few more rolls towards the screen to dodge the final flurry and the aoe air slice at the end. her left side seems to be a weakness in some way from what I can tell but no definitive proof so I stayed strafing and rolling to that side of her and it did pretty well.
Seeing that others struggled with Melania and Mohg makes me feel less bad that they were the only two bosses I noped out of soloing. I almost thought id have to do it with Radagon and Elden Beast. But I had a good run with Radagon so Elden Beast wasnt bad.
I just jump slam Malenias with two colossal swords. It’s pretty easy to stun her that way and get a visceral. I DID use the mimic tear for the second phase, but the way the fight was going, I didn’t really need to. That being said o was almost level 200 hundred when I did this and I had already beaten her once in a previous play through, which took MUCH longer. Also, fuck godskin duo. It’s not so bad now with mimic tier and being at high level, but without either of those things, it’s just plain unfair. Worst boss in souls history.
I didn’t use mimic tear when i beat malenia because 1:i didn’t have it 2:i have no idea how to get it and 3:i believe it would just be a bad idea because the ai doesn’t know how to dodge meaning malenia would be getting back almost all of her health,extending the fight and making it more likely you get waterfowl danced to death
Yeah f that bird, I died to him way more than malenia. And mogh last night wrecked my shit for a good hr, until I remembered I had his shackle i found randomly. Doesn't matter your level or equipment any boss can wreck you. Over 60 vigor and can still get 1 shotted
I got smacked by dragon lord and Astel over and over again, Mohg is a breeze, especially since i beat Mohg the Omen first, which is a way harder fight, Malenia was the only boss in the entire game i had to summon an actual person to help me beat her, on NG+ now, gunna beat her again so i can have 2 of her swords and then i will pass on ever fighting her again
Mohg the Omen is NOT a harder fight. The Omen version is straight up no bullshit, just is his 1st phase. That's it. Mohg the Omen is just Phase 1 of Mohg, Lord of Blood. The only reason you think it was harder is because as you said you fought it first so thus you already knew everything he did in Phase 1 and had practice against it. Lord of Blood is objectively stronger your sense for the difficulty is just already pre biased from having dealt with his 1st Phase over and over already. Hence why the LoB fight felt so easy for you but harder fight it most certainly is not.
I beat melania 3rd try. Mimic tear with elnoras pole blade and you standing back spamming yhe frost breath dragon communion works pretty well to cheese her fight
As someone who killed radahn without summons on my second try but took over 9 hours of attempts with a fully upgraded mimic tear and weapon to kill astel.... im in for a ride with the other bosses huh...
Malenia also can straight up deflect you when she goes to dodge back negating damage and a flinch. The amount of times she backstep blocked me into a point blank waterfowl was painful
I got Malenia and Mogh at the 2nd try to my surprise, though pretty high level (170 I think) and mimic +10. I struggled the most with the Gargoyle duo, took me 40 tries.
Sorry but the mimic kinds ruins the 2nd try thing. I tested the mimic after about 20 deaths and let her kill me as we destroyed her and it was boring as hell.
This placidusax laser is perhaps one of the most powerful miracles in game, so if you have faith build and mimic, Malenia shouldn't be a problem no more.
The dark moon Greatsword is my pick for best weapon against Melania. Her magic defense is meh, she is weak to frostbite, it has good stagger, and the sword beams outrange her aeonia slam
The funny thing is this still isn't all the bosses 😂. There's one called Runebear in the Weeping Peninsula that I came across. Think a pissed off hyper aggressive Panda. So there's probably more. It probably wouldn't be high on the list though. I just suck. Not hating by the way, I just find it amusing
It's interesting how different difficulty can be for people. I don't exactly remember but i think i got malekith first try (I was pritty overleveled though probably? i didn't do farum azula until i'd cleared basically everything else) meanwhile placidusax demolished me over and over. I never figured out how to avoid the damn lasers, and only beat him using the one physic effect that (very briefly, 15 seconds or so) makes all non-physical damage heal you and chugging it right as he started laser time. Malenia is an absolute monster though. It's a shame malenia's fight is so aggravating since maria was my favorite Bloodborne boss and they have a similar sort of frantic feel to them
People just bitch about Waterfowl. Once you beat her once though you should already know how to dodge it consistently and let me tell you, doesn't make the fight much easier lol. She IMO is 100% the hardest boss I've faced in any game to date but I genuinely don't think she is bullshit.
@@WhydTheyChangeOurNames I still think waterfowl is bullshit, even though the fight is amazing. The worst thing about it is that it's the most beneficial attack for her, with absolutely no benefit for the player. She's immune throughout most of the attack, it's the highest dealing damage move, the hardest move to dodge and she just heals for free if she hits you AND she can and will do it multiple times in the fight. All of this is already bullshit but the worst of it is that this move comes at basically no cost to her. Usually a boss' strongest moves comes at a cost, most commonly with big openings either before or after the move that the player can use to deal big damage, but this is not the case with waterfowl. The windup is long but you basically cant hit her and if you even get close you won't be able to dodge anyway and you can't get many hits after the move either. Sorry for the long text but I just think it's such a badly designed move in such a great fight.
@@joeltheowl3299 I'd have to disagree. 1. Her grab is highest damage move 2. Her lunge attack also does more damage Waterfowl just SEEMS to be more damage because multiple hits on it but per hit its damage is actually pitiful. 3. You can actually just hit her with a pot during her windup and it cancels the move entirely 4. It's RNG how much she uses it. I've had runs where she doesn't use it at all in either phase 5. She also favors being quite passive after the move as she takes time to turn around to face you again and slow walk towards you and considering how easy she is to stun and stagger this is a great time to land a big hit 6. It's hitboxes are also incredibly good unlike things like Godricks fire breath which sometimes just decides its gonna hit you "just because" The absolute most BS move in the entire game is Elden Stars purely because it's almost guaranteed that you are gonna get hit. It tracks and lasts for way too long with way too much speed and during the entire move Elden Beast is free to do whatever he wants so you have other attacks you have to dodge WHILE Elden Stars is still chasing you. It's not a ton of damage but it doesn't need to be in this case as Radagon already drains your resources and then the constant poke from Elden Stars makes you drain them even more and depending on what other moves he uses during this time, can be completely unpunished. So you get zoned out for 20-30 seconds with no way to consistently punish him while dodging other attacks. I mean I don't see the argument for Waterfowl being BS compared to that.

(Again i've only seen the fight so i dont know. But also it seems like one being bs does not invalidate the other from also being bs, most of what you said for Elden Beast seems to also apply for Malenia (You also get drained of recourses in the first phase, you also can't attack her during that attack etc). But regarding your points: 1 and 2) Waterfowl is by very far the highest damage move. Not per hit for sure, but the entirety of it deals like twice if not 3 times the damage of the moves you mentioned, while being infinitely harder to evade and procing rot on the second phase. 3) Sure but that's kind of a gimmicky thing, doesn't make the move any less BS. 4) Considering everything I already said, I'd actually argue that the move being RNG makes it worse, not better. Because you can't predict when it's coming (after the first time), and because you can't fully dodge the first set of swings with rolls (not counting bloodhound step), your ability to dodge it comes down to RNG as well, which is terrible. 5) She's very passive during most of the first phase, Waterfowl doesn't punish her any more than her other moves do, there are other moves with way bigger openings and much less punishing for the player. 6) I agree.
@@joeltheowl3299 I mean your point about drained resources doesn't really apply. Radagon/Elden Beast are literal back to back boss fights. As in an entirely different Boss comes after Radagon and you have to fight him again every time to get to Elden Beast. Also no, you can't just dodge Elden Stars, it's the #1 cause of losing No Hit runs. People nowadays work around it by manipulating the AI by stopping themselves from doing damage at different points so it just never gets used. Waterfowl you actually can dodge through entirely but the I-Frame window is incredibly close. I'd say Waterfowl is a very strong move but not BS as it is interruptable, punishable, and avoidable. None of which are true of a move like Elden Stars. The raw damage is really all Waterfowl has more of but given everything it has against it, it's not bad in the grand scheme of things.
I don't know why but I beat Mohg on the second try. Was kinda disappointed because I expected him to be super strong but I think I was severely overleveled by the time I encountered him.
I beat Malenia my third try...except I died too, and instead of laying down and expiring like a normal person, she started monologing. I've tried so many times since then, and can rarely even get to the second phase
i struggled for almost 40 ish minutes for radagon. but literally first tried malenia. It really is all about your approach to the game and the types of fights your used to.
I dunno, they both absolutely suck to fight solo. Radagon though is manageable with a Mimic Tear, whereas Malenia still killed my ass a bunch even with that summon, even if it alleviated some pressure. I do think Elden Beast was less difficult than Radagon. Elden Stars I think is its only tricky attack but the others could be more reliably dodged and avoided. He's not a fast or hyper unpredictable and spazzy boss, just puts loads of pressure on you with screen-covering and homing attacks. But is a big blob of a target too, so just standing next to it and mash attack gets things done. The other issue of course is coming immediately after Radagon so you're fighting it likely drained of resources. If it was a standalone boss it'd be ten times easier for everybody.
Radagon strats by build: Str- poise check the shit outta him, that boys weak sauce Faith- Black flame DEMOLISHES this man. Has 0 resistance to it and each hit can do anywhere from 1,200-2,000 and that's with only like 40 Faith Int- Moonveil still stomps him but also Night Comet shits on him. Can also drink your physick early and then just Comet Azur at the beginning. Dex- a lot of his attacks leave large openings for at least partial combos and also his "get off me" attack is a 2 hit with the 1st one almost always missing by swinging too high so just don't Jump attack and roll the 2nd swing.
Still missed Regular Mohg and Sanguine Noble fights in the sewers. Malenia is a pain in the ass but can be blitzed with rivers of blood and a mimic. The blood loss staggers her so much that she literally can’t attack. If you you want to solo her then I recommend you bring frost pots as they interrupt the waterfoul dance.
malenia is the most balanced and cool, and interesting boss of all elden ring bosses, not much bosses from other soulsborne games can be compared with her
That's absolutely tragic dude. No idea what build you used but Strength can poise break them both fairly easy, Faith you just use Pest Threads against Elden Beast and watch his hp get nuked, Dex you can get a ton of free damage on them with how fast your attacks are, Int makes Radagon more challenging but get the night version of Comet and you're good and then you flask Comet Azur Elden Beast and he dies practically instant. So I don't know what build you used but their fight isn't too bad all in all. Radagon hard carries the fight by being an actual boss whereas Elden Beast is only difficult because he plays the world's most annoying game of tag and you start the fight with less resources because of Radagon. Their joint difficulty is kinda just BS in that regard. Like yeah any boss comes off as hard if I have to fight 2 bosses back to back without a chance to get more Flasks but also with that in mind, it also shows just how easy Elden Beast by itself is.

@@itzadapt8962 yeahhhhh that's because both of them are immune to bleed so you're losing a huge chunk of damage. Cold Uchi with the Hoarfrost Stomp will make Radagon cry though.
@@itzadapt8962 you bet. Also once you apply the Frostbite that lowers his defense by 20% so it also allows you to hit harder too. That's what worked for me in my Dex run so best of luck!
Biggest issue with Placidusax is his hitbox. I can not tell you how many times I jump attacked his back left leg only to deal 0 damage. You pretty much cant hit him unless you are either directly in front of him or behind him. Also the camera in his fight sucks and the run up to him after dieing sucks
I personally say that Maliketh is harder than Malenia. I don’t know why, but in all my Elden ring runs I’ve always shredded Malenia and died to Maliketh 20-50 times!
I think number 2 should be placidusax because if you don’t get his dive bombs or that yellow laser attack he does at the end down its instant death. Mohg is hard but if you have the mixed physic ingredient and a decent summon he’s not hard to figure out. But I do agree malenia is the hardest boss in souls history

I really don’t understand the whole controversy with waterfowl dance. It is so easy to avoid. Just sprint directly away from her at full speed and the first two volleys will miss entirely. then roll.
Yeah, until she does it, you dodge and she immediately does it again. And again. I've seen her use it four times in a row and 12 times in a fight. On its own, its fine.
As someone who has done a no-hit maleinia run, she is very unbalanced. After ~175 attempts, I STILL can't dodge waterfowl if i'm close to her/in an animation.
Alecto you just run instead of roll and punish her slams and she is easy. On my Level 1 playthrough I only died once to her and it's because she glitched and stagger cancelled herself and got the backstab on me instakilling me with my whole 10 Vigor. Also super low poise so you can just loop Flame of the Redmanes as well if you still want to be aggressive and fight up close. I feel she is only really difficult if you're greedy or playing a mage.
I tend to have issues with sudden camera changes and larger size bosses, so Malenia wasn't that difficult for me. Maliketh and Elden Beast gave me a really rough time though.
I’m new game plus 4 and I struggle on maliketh 💀 on my first play through took me like 3 hours then on new game plus 1 I first tried him i then struggled on him on ng 2 so now I really going to struggle 💀💀💀
From what I heard (I've never played it so my opinion don't rly matter) the nameless king was super hard because he had a health decrease like maliketh and that is also when they started to add in delayed attacks so it sorta how Melina has health back and ridiculously fast polar opposites but shit to fight either way
@@Itzwiggy Nameless King has no health-affecting effects. He has no status effects of any sort, in fact. I don't know who told you he did. Most of his difficulty comes from a) first phase is one of the more annoying dragon bosses despite being easy, since it always has double hit fire; b) his health pool is massive, making it an endurance fight. Endurance fights are always harder; c) he's essentially the DS3 version of Margit/Morgott. Delayed combos that he only stops when he wants to.

Placidusax’s big nuke lightning spear attack is really dang cool
I'm not as big a fan of Placidusax as others are but yeah that attack is cool. I like how the soundtrack stops completely until the explosion goes off, where it resumes from there.
I think the aesthetics of that fight is one of the bests I've ever seen in a video game. When he disappears and turns into a cloud/lightning combo and charges from afar, that is just pure epic.
Love that move, especially cause it just stops the music for a sec and all you can hear is the crackling of thunder. Really wish we could have had an incant/ash of war of that

I finally beat Malenia last night after countless tries. In the 100s. I hated her, but now she's dead, kinda miss her. I think sometimes you only appreciate the fight once the frustration subsides. Now I view her as one of my top 10 From bosses.
they did a really good job with her boss fight imo. cool move-set and design, the contrast from the cutscenes really shows her bloom and just how much shit got real, she felt badass and the perfect boss to capture the haligtree, and she was hard af. we can call some of the stuff she pulls bs, but at the end of the day it made beating her feel that much better and she became a huge talking point as an optional boss that many view as a “you just have to fight her for the experience”.

Malenia was difficult to me primarily because of all the colors blurring together in her phase two. Makes it so hard to tell what the hell she’s doing.

I know you hate using shields but, for anyone else who's struggling, a shield was the most consistent way that I found for dealing with Waterfowl Dance. Block the first one, roll into the second one and if you roll, or just move, in the right direction at the right time the second two flurries should miss entirely (I can't really describe exactly where to go I just kinda got a feel for it eventually). This obviously means conceding some regen to her but that's better than just dying. The runaway strategy was also effective but not much use when she starts that attack out of nowhere when you're right next to her, whereas with a shield I just had to stop two handing. I also found that just the first flurry wasn't enough for me to get scarlet rotted by the Waterfowl Dance in the second phase.
Also I personally found the best strategy with Maliketh was to stay as close to him as possible and try and get behind whenever I could. Obviously he moves very fast so that's easier said than done. A lot of it comes down to RNG, if he uses his regular slashes then that's great since if you're under him they won't hit you and you can just whack away. Getting behind him is also the only consistent way I found to dodge that flurry attack he does. You can Iframe the ground shake attack he does after plunging his sword into the ground and it's a good time to get some damage in. I didn't manage to stagger him at all when I fought him (though I was using Malenia's sword so not much posture damage) so I gave up and just tried to get several light attacks in instead.
I like putting my summon sign outside Maliketh and I find the attacks that kill people the most are, in the first phase, the attack where he causes boulders to go up and then fall down and, in the second phase, the mid air projectiles followed by double slash. The first is pretty easy to dodge, the boulders fall exactly where they went up from so you just stand still in a safe area until it's over, ranged builds can get in some damage too. The second is harder to dodge and you just gotta time the rolls right for s and roll under him so the second sweep doesn't hit. There's not really any trick to it. On the upside, if you roll inwards you can get some damage off afterwards.
You can just bloodhound step away, if you spam it and create enough distance it will miss everytime

One thing to do against Malenia to prevent the waterfowl dance is throw a freezing pot at her. It'll cancel her out from doing it.
The biggest issue I had with Mohg was learning where to stand cause bleed rocks your shit it phase 2. Otherwise he isn’t all that bad.
Melenia on the other hand demands your roll timing to be spot on. I struggled with Waterfowl (as basically everyone does), 1 weird combo she has were she jumps forward and swings her sword left as right, and Her Grab. Her Sword Grab can Rot In Hell there were at least a half dozen times I had her beaten then 1 missed timed roll later I get caught with 75% and we start are dance over again. More irritating than Waterfowl in my opinion.
That’s the thing about malenia, everyone talks about waterfowl but what really makes that fight difficult is her damn life steal. Even if you block she gets her health back.
I avoided Waterfowl using the best technique mastered by Joseph Joestar.

Only had the game 4 months but Melenia is obviously the hardest I can do stage 1 but in stage 2 her first attack kills me almost every time. 1 boss who deserves a mention is the black knife boss that gives you black knife tiche ashes in the gaol above the albanauric village. Took me atleast 30-40 attempts so difficult to hit and blood attack wrecks you

I don't think Midir would do too well tbh - he's massive and his hitboxes that don't involve AoEs are extremely forgiving. So much so that Malenia, as small as she is in comparison, wouldn't get hit by most of them.
Plus he's big as hell and would basically act like a big healing potion to her.

Malenia also has another bullshit mechanic up her sleeve. She can cancel her stagger into something and can stagger cancel into a waterfowl which leaves you way too close to dodge
Fun fact, the item you can use for Mohg's mid phase life steal prevents you from taking the damage but it does NOT prevent Mohg from healing.

As I do more playthroughs I get to the end at lower levels. What I didn't realize before was that not only does leveling up give you vigor and stamina etc, It also greatly improves your defense attributes. So when I was getting my A$$ kicked by Niall at level 80, I just leveled up to 90 and it made a huge difference.

I didn't really like the Melania fight because it didn't feel like I was fighting Melania, it felt like I was fighting waterfoul dance.
I sit there with my Fingerprint Shield and Bulwark the Waterfowl Dance. The Scarlot Rot usually gets me and the constant healing is a pain in the ass.
I don’t think I’ve agreed with a statement more than “you can have one or the other” Melania should have either water foul or the heal, or at least make it possible to knock her out of the water foul animation
Mohg getting health for free *is* annoying, but since there's no way to stop it, that just means his HP pool is basically a little bigger than it looks. If he had like 30% higher HP, didn't heal, and went into his 2nd phase at around 75% health instead of 50%, the fight would be exactly the same. Kinda like how Midir in Dark Souls 3 really only has like 80% of the effective health his HP pool would give him, since you'll probably get a riposte on him and he takes absolutely massive damage from it.

melania can be cheesed with the blasphemous blade and mimic, she becomes stun locked through both fazes of the fight, along with the user regaining health at the same time
just be sure to use the special attack and heavy swings when she’s aggroed to the mimic

Elden beast took me over 30 goes nearly quit game over it. Had to respec from mylee strength build to a hybrid faith incantation build to beat it. Elden ring definitely favours players who use magic which is cool . Coming of bloodborne I loved mylee builds style.

My personal tip for malenia’s waterfowl dance, besides always defaulting to mid to long range when I’m not hitting her, is to have ‘vow of the indomitable’ on my shield. You can use it to get invincibility through her first or second dash and then roll through her from there
Finally someone who acknowledges that Malenia is the hardest boss in this game!! She is top 1, second is nameless king from ds3 of all the hardest bosses Ive faced. Took me almost 2 hrs but I enjoyed that battle

Malenia was definitely the hardest boss I've ever fought in Fromsofts lineup. Pretty much the same reasons too, the lifesteal and the waterfowl dance. This is the fight I finally started using all the stuff you'd usually be hoarding like a dragon till the end of the game like the Rune Arcs. Those gave me a chance, but again as soon as she did the Waterfowl dance, it still chewed through my HP. I started the fight with almost 30 Rune Arcs (I think) and came out the other end with less than 5. There were times I didn't use an Arc to try and conserve them, but those tries I never got close. All in all, I must have fought her damn near 60 times, spread out over a couple days cause I just couldn't.

I saw melania lifesteal and i immediately pulled out the butchers knife, which grants lifesteal. Said weapon also is great at staggering her, especially with mimic tear.

best way to roll on the waterfowel dance for me is wait right before she unleashes the first flurry roll to her left (your right) of her twice then roll your back left twice then roll left twice and this should put you out of the range of her but its random because she will either miss you completely or be right on top of you and that requires a few more rolls towards the screen to dodge the final flurry and the aoe air slice at the end. her left side seems to be a weakness in some way from what I can tell but no definitive proof so I stayed strafing and rolling to that side of her and it did pretty well.
Seeing that others struggled with Melania and Mohg makes me feel less bad that they were the only two bosses I noped out of soloing. I almost thought id have to do it with Radagon and Elden Beast. But I had a good run with Radagon so Elden Beast wasnt bad.
I grinded Melania for 6 nonths straight before I beat her was determined to only use greatsword and boy did it take a while to do it.

I just jump slam Malenias with two colossal swords. It’s pretty easy to stun her that way and get a visceral. I DID use the mimic tear for the second phase, but the way the fight was going, I didn’t really need to. That being said o was almost level 200 hundred when I did this and I had already beaten her once in a previous play through, which took MUCH longer.
Also, fuck godskin duo. It’s not so bad now with mimic tier and being at high level, but without either of those things, it’s just plain unfair. Worst boss in souls history.
I didn’t use mimic tear when i beat malenia because 1:i didn’t have it 2:i have no idea how to get it and 3:i believe it would just be a bad idea because the ai doesn’t know how to dodge meaning malenia would be getting back almost all of her health,extending the fight and making it more likely you get waterfowl danced to death

Yeah f that bird, I died to him way more than malenia. And mogh last night wrecked my shit for a good hr, until I remembered I had his shackle i found randomly. Doesn't matter your level or equipment any boss can wreck you. Over 60 vigor and can still get 1 shotted
I got smacked by dragon lord and Astel over and over again, Mohg is a breeze, especially since i beat Mohg the Omen first, which is a way harder fight, Malenia was the only boss in the entire game i had to summon an actual person to help me beat her, on NG+ now, gunna beat her again so i can have 2 of her swords and then i will pass on ever fighting her again
Mohg the Omen is NOT a harder fight. The Omen version is straight up no bullshit, just is his 1st phase. That's it. Mohg the Omen is just Phase 1 of Mohg, Lord of Blood. The only reason you think it was harder is because as you said you fought it first so thus you already knew everything he did in Phase 1 and had practice against it. Lord of Blood is objectively stronger your sense for the difficulty is just already pre biased from having dealt with his 1st Phase over and over already. Hence why the LoB fight felt so easy for you but harder fight it most certainly is not.
Some of these bosses look like the went into a kindergarten classroom and asked them to draw monsters...I love it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

As someone who killed radahn without summons on my second try but took over 9 hours of attempts with a fully upgraded mimic tear and weapon to kill astel.... im in for a ride with the other bosses huh...
Malenia also can straight up deflect you when she goes to dodge back negating damage and a flinch. The amount of times she backstep blocked me into a point blank waterfowl was painful

I got Malenia and Mogh at the 2nd try to my surprise, though pretty high level (170 I think) and mimic +10. I struggled the most with the Gargoyle duo, took me 40 tries.
Sorry but the mimic kinds ruins the 2nd try thing. I tested the mimic after about 20 deaths and let her kill me as we destroyed her and it was boring as hell.
This placidusax laser is perhaps one of the most powerful miracles in game, so if you have faith build and mimic, Malenia shouldn't be a problem no more.
Agreed, I beat her first attempt due to Lvl 50 faith Blasphemous blade build with a lvl 9 mimic. She landed like 1 hit the whole fight.
The dark moon Greatsword is my pick for best weapon against Melania.
Her magic defense is meh, she is weak to frostbite, it has good stagger, and the sword beams outrange her aeonia slam
The funny thing is this still isn't all the bosses 😂. There's one called Runebear in the Weeping Peninsula that I came across. Think a pissed off hyper aggressive Panda. So there's probably more. It probably wouldn't be high on the list though. I just suck. Not hating by the way, I just find it amusing

It's interesting how different difficulty can be for people. I don't exactly remember but i think i got malekith first try (I was pritty overleveled though probably? i didn't do farum azula until i'd cleared basically everything else) meanwhile placidusax demolished me over and over. I never figured out how to avoid the damn lasers, and only beat him using the one physic effect that (very briefly, 15 seconds or so) makes all non-physical damage heal you and chugging it right as he started laser time. Malenia is an absolute monster though. It's a shame malenia's fight is so aggravating since maria was my favorite Bloodborne boss and they have a similar sort of frantic feel to them
People just bitch about Waterfowl. Once you beat her once though you should already know how to dodge it consistently and let me tell you, doesn't make the fight much easier lol. She IMO is 100% the hardest boss I've faced in any game to date but I genuinely don't think she is bullshit.

The worst thing about it is that it's the most beneficial attack for her, with absolutely no benefit for the player. She's immune throughout most of the attack, it's the highest dealing damage move, the hardest move to dodge and she just heals for free if she hits you AND she can and will do it multiple times in the fight. All of this is already bullshit but the worst of it is that this move comes at basically no cost to her. Usually a boss' strongest moves comes at a cost, most commonly with big openings either before or after the move that the player can use to deal big damage, but this is not the case with waterfowl. The windup is long but you basically cant hit her and if you even get close you won't be able to dodge anyway and you can't get many hits after the move either. Sorry for the long text but I just think it's such a badly designed move in such a great fight.

1. Her grab is highest damage move
2. Her lunge attack also does more damage
Waterfowl just SEEMS to be more damage because multiple hits on it but per hit its damage is actually pitiful.
3. You can actually just hit her with a pot during her windup and it cancels the move entirely
4. It's RNG how much she uses it. I've had runs where she doesn't use it at all in either phase
5. She also favors being quite passive after the move as she takes time to turn around to face you again and slow walk towards you and considering how easy she is to stun and stagger this is a great time to land a big hit
6. It's hitboxes are also incredibly good unlike things like Godricks fire breath which sometimes just decides its gonna hit you "just because"
The absolute most BS move in the entire game is Elden Stars purely because it's almost guaranteed that you are gonna get hit. It tracks and lasts for way too long with way too much speed and during the entire move Elden Beast is free to do whatever he wants so you have other attacks you have to dodge WHILE Elden Stars is still chasing you. It's not a ton of damage but it doesn't need to be in this case as Radagon already drains your resources and then the constant poke from Elden Stars makes you drain them even more and depending on what other moves he uses during this time, can be completely unpunished. So you get zoned out for 20-30 seconds with no way to consistently punish him while dodging other attacks. I mean I don't see the argument for Waterfowl being BS compared to that.

(Again i've only seen the fight so i dont know. But also it seems like one being bs does not invalidate the other from also being bs, most of what you said for Elden Beast seems to also apply for Malenia (You also get drained of recourses in the first phase, you also can't attack her during that attack etc).
But regarding your points:
1 and 2) Waterfowl is by very far the highest damage move. Not per hit for sure, but the entirety of it deals like twice if not 3 times the damage of the moves you mentioned, while being infinitely harder to evade and procing rot on the second phase.
3) Sure but that's kind of a gimmicky thing, doesn't make the move any less BS.
4) Considering everything I already said, I'd actually argue that the move being RNG makes it worse, not better. Because you can't predict when it's coming (after the first time), and because you can't fully dodge the first set of swings with rolls (not counting bloodhound step), your ability to dodge it comes down to RNG as well, which is terrible.
5) She's very passive during most of the first phase, Waterfowl doesn't punish her any more than her other moves do, there are other moves with way bigger openings and much less punishing for the player.
6) I agree.
@@joeltheowl3299 I mean your point about drained resources doesn't really apply. Radagon/Elden Beast are literal back to back boss fights. As in an entirely different Boss comes after Radagon and you have to fight him again every time to get to Elden Beast. Also no, you can't just dodge Elden Stars, it's the #1 cause of losing No Hit runs. People nowadays work around it by manipulating the AI by stopping themselves from doing damage at different points so it just never gets used. Waterfowl you actually can dodge through entirely but the I-Frame window is incredibly close. I'd say Waterfowl is a very strong move but not BS as it is interruptable, punishable, and avoidable. None of which are true of a move like Elden Stars. The raw damage is really all Waterfowl has more of but given everything it has against it, it's not bad in the grand scheme of things.
I don't know why but I beat Mohg on the second try. Was kinda disappointed because I expected him to be super strong but I think I was severely overleveled by the time I encountered him.
I beat Malenia my third try...except I died too, and instead of laying down and expiring like a normal person, she started monologing. I've tried so many times since then, and can rarely even get to the second phase

I don’t know about y’all, but for me, Radagon was much tougher to beat than Malenia.
i struggled for almost 40 ish minutes for radagon. but literally first tried malenia. It really is all about your approach to the game and the types of fights your used to.
I dunno, they both absolutely suck to fight solo. Radagon though is manageable with a Mimic Tear, whereas Malenia still killed my ass a bunch even with that summon, even if it alleviated some pressure.
I do think Elden Beast was less difficult than Radagon. Elden Stars I think is its only tricky attack but the others could be more reliably dodged and avoided. He's not a fast or hyper unpredictable and spazzy boss, just puts loads of pressure on you with screen-covering and homing attacks. But is a big blob of a target too, so just standing next to it and mash attack gets things done. The other issue of course is coming immediately after Radagon so you're fighting it likely drained of resources. If it was a standalone boss it'd be ten times easier for everybody.
Radagon strats by build: Str- poise check the shit outta him, that boys weak sauce
Faith- Black flame DEMOLISHES this man. Has 0 resistance to it and each hit can do anywhere from 1,200-2,000 and that's with only like 40 Faith
Int- Moonveil still stomps him but also Night Comet shits on him. Can also drink your physick early and then just Comet Azur at the beginning.
Dex- a lot of his attacks leave large openings for at least partial combos and also his "get off me" attack is a 2 hit with the 1st one almost always missing by swinging too high so just don't Jump attack and roll the 2nd swing.
Still missed Regular Mohg and Sanguine Noble fights in the sewers. Malenia is a pain in the ass but can be blitzed with rivers of blood and a mimic. The blood loss staggers her so much that she literally can’t attack. If you you want to solo her then I recommend you bring frost pots as they interrupt the waterfoul dance.
malenia is the most balanced and cool, and interesting boss of all elden ring bosses, not much bosses from other soulsborne games can be compared with her

That's absolutely tragic dude. No idea what build you used but Strength can poise break them both fairly easy, Faith you just use Pest Threads against Elden Beast and watch his hp get nuked, Dex you can get a ton of free damage on them with how fast your attacks are, Int makes Radagon more challenging but get the night version of Comet and you're good and then you flask Comet Azur Elden Beast and he dies practically instant.
So I don't know what build you used but their fight isn't too bad all in all. Radagon hard carries the fight by being an actual boss whereas Elden Beast is only difficult because he plays the world's most annoying game of tag and you start the fight with less resources because of Radagon.
Their joint difficulty is kinda just BS in that regard. Like yeah any boss comes off as hard if I have to fight 2 bosses back to back without a chance to get more Flasks but also with that in mind, it also shows just how easy Elden Beast by itself is.
@@WhydTheyChangeOurNames yea individually I have no problem wit either but back to back is brutal for me and I use a bleed build but it don’t work I just change my build up to fight the specifically lol I beat her on my 3 try then radagon and the beast just bend me over lol
@@itzadapt8962 yeahhhhh that's because both of them are immune to bleed so you're losing a huge chunk of damage. Cold Uchi with the Hoarfrost Stomp will make Radagon cry though.

@@itzadapt8962 you bet. Also once you apply the Frostbite that lowers his defense by 20% so it also allows you to hit harder too. That's what worked for me in my Dex run so best of luck!
Biggest issue with Placidusax is his hitbox. I can not tell you how many times I jump attacked his back left leg only to deal 0 damage. You pretty much cant hit him unless you are either directly in front of him or behind him.
Also the camera in his fight sucks and the run up to him after dieing sucks
I personally say that Maliketh is harder than Malenia. I don’t know why, but in all my Elden ring runs I’ve always shredded Malenia and died to Maliketh 20-50 times!

I think number 2 should be placidusax because if you don’t get his dive bombs or that yellow laser attack he does at the end down its instant death. Mohg is hard but if you have the mixed physic ingredient and a decent summon he’s not hard to figure out. But I do agree malenia is the hardest boss in souls history
I honestly struggle more with the Commander Neil fight more than any other. In my experience I think hes harder than Melania

I really don’t understand the whole controversy with waterfowl dance. It is so easy to avoid. Just sprint directly away from her at full speed and the first two volleys will miss entirely. then roll.
Yeah, until she does it, you dodge and she immediately does it again. And again. I've seen her use it four times in a row and 12 times in a fight. On its own, its fine.
I get Melania just about 10%. Then she just decides to win like you said.

As someone who has done a no-hit maleinia run, she is very unbalanced. After ~175 attempts, I STILL can't dodge waterfowl if i'm close to her/in an animation.
For Malenia I just used a spirit ash because I wasn't having none of her bullshit
Where is Alecto? I had more trouble with her than with any other boss, even Malenia felt easier.
You can cheese her by just always keeping your distance. Aside from the charge and maybe the projectile, you can just outspace her attacks.
Alecto you just run instead of roll and punish her slams and she is easy. On my Level 1 playthrough I only died once to her and it's because she glitched and stagger cancelled herself and got the backstab on me instakilling me with my whole 10 Vigor. Also super low poise so you can just loop Flame of the Redmanes as well if you still want to be aggressive and fight up close. I feel she is only really difficult if you're greedy or playing a mage.
Next time, you might want to hit that switch on the side of the microphone that says audible
After beating main bosses with a star fist build, no summons on ng+2, i think maliketh is the hardest boss in the game without summons
Any bleed or strenght build obliterates him
I tend to have issues with sudden camera changes and larger size bosses, so Malenia wasn't that difficult for me. Maliketh and Elden Beast gave me a really rough time though.
I’m new game plus 4 and I struggle on maliketh 💀 on my first play through took me like 3 hours then on new game plus 1 I first tried him i then struggled on him on ng 2 so now I really going to struggle 💀💀💀
@@nomis-8934 Same here. I finally got used to his move set on ng+3, but it’s still unpredictable and he hits through pillars sometimes.

Honestly I personally had a way harder time with the nameless king compared to malenia
From what I heard (I've never played it so my opinion don't rly matter) the nameless king was super hard because he had a health decrease like maliketh and that is also when they started to add in delayed attacks so it sorta how Melina has health back and ridiculously fast polar opposites but shit to fight either way

Nameless King has no health-affecting effects. He has no status effects of any sort, in fact. I don't know who told you he did. Most of his difficulty comes from a) first phase is one of the more annoying dragon bosses despite being easy, since it always has double hit fire; b) his health pool is massive, making it an endurance fight. Endurance fights are always harder; c) he's essentially the DS3 version of Margit/Morgott. Delayed combos that he only stops when he wants to.
Beat Nameless King on my first attempt back in the day (somehow), but Malenia fucking destroys me every time
