Love the fabric, never thought of using adhesive sheets, a great idea better than glue and a lot cleaner finish. Can't wait to see this finished journal.
Great idea using the adhesive sheets and the way you fold the covers before sticking it down to give the correct opening gap right from the start. Never thought of this way of covering and will definitely give this a try. Thanks so much.
Wonderful demo hun, can’t wait to see that next journal! I’ve been binge watching your older videos coz I just love your style and all the fabulousness!! 😘❤️
Why have I never thought to fold the covers over the spine that way to achieve the perfect gap? You are BRILLIANT woman ... that is a real game changer, thank you. Love the sneak-peeks, those two journals looks AMAZING - can't wait to see the flips throughs.
Thanks for this. I've been binding books of various kinds for years and you taught me some little tricks I hadn't seen before. I'm always hesitant to use double-sided adhesive tape because there's no wiggle room and I'm not very adept at getting things lined up the first time. But I may have to try your method of attaching the spine to the book covers. You made it look so easy!
Thank you so much, Sara, for sharing these wonderful tips for making a Journal cover!!!..Who would have thought?!!! I also love the "Origami" paper tip. I am wondering what size you start with. You are doing an absolutely great job with tutorials! Love all your techniques so much. ❤❤❤
I use A4 I buy them from Gordon Harris in NZ as they are a specialty paper brand, they seem to go through the inkjet just fine 😊Awagami is such a lovely brand of papers! Made with things other than wood pulp, like mulberry and flax, just gorgeous to the touch, Thank you for watching 💛💛💛
I can't say that binding a journal is my favorite thing to do, but there is a huge level of satisfaction in knowing that what I've created is almost finished. 🫣 ... This was an awesome tutorial on making a cover from scratch as opposed to using a gutted book! The best part for me was you showing how you used fabric for the hinges. Also I would like to say that you don't need to apologize for making a long video! Twenty-ish minutes is not long; we love hearing your voice.😊 If you are under a time restraint, that's a different story lol 😉 but you do not have to be in a hurry on our account! ❤🎉🤗🥰
@papeteriedechoix that is SO true! That satisfaction when the last signature is knotted off! Nothing like it 🤣🥰 that's what I'll be doing today and will post vid. I have a couple of tips for that to make it easier too (that I've discovered the hard way lol!) Your little prize is on her way too, will send you tracking number via email💛
Thank you Sara! I've made over 100 journals and I'm still learning new techniques from you and other makers! I love your tips! I'll be asking about scraps of matt board next time I'm at Hobby Lobby for sure! And the way you managed that gap between spine and front and back boards perfectly is genius! And I'm going to try the double sided adhesive too. Thank you!! ~ Corky 💜💜💜
@theplumcreekbooksmith aaaw wow! If you saw some helpful hints then it certainly wasn't a waste of time making it, thank you for letting me know 🥰 there are so many videos on this and I don't like to share things i think are already out there on mass 💛💛💛
I bind my journals in a similar way. However, I use fabritac for every step and it can get messy, and sometimes it will seep through lighter fabrics. The double-sided sticky sheets are simply genius! I never would have guessed that is a strong enough glue for fabric, but your journal covers always look so well put together and sturdy! I definitely have to try this.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I admire all of your journals so it has been a pleasure to watch you start at the beginning of making your journal! Don’t worry about taking time ie. peeling your adhesive paper apart, when filming the video we all love watching!
I have always made my cover first and fit the signatures to it but this way makes so much more sense!! Thankyou I love learning these new things from you!!
@RachelleDeeprose I so admire people who manage to do their journal that way round with cover first! I just couldn't lol if there's another word worse than "crocodile" maybe hippo, that's how my journal would turn out 🤣
I thought I had my technique down and then you bought out the double sided adhesive sheets 🤯 I just don’t love getting glue all over myself, this seems ideal
Hi Sara-Lee thank you for this video your covers always look sturdy and very well constructed so thank for going through your process. Thank for this video I have two covers that I need to construct and have been putting them of until now. My local Officeworks has a pack of the adhesive sheets so I'll be there today and it looks like I know two things I'll be doing this weekend.
@@sara-leearmstrong5009 Marvellous. I've made a cover. Sara-Lee you have no idea how long I have been putting that off. I've had the signatures 90% done for months and thought I could make it a ring binder one like you've done. But it was way to much on the gator mouth side it looked ridiculous and to add to that not a small journal because I had a mixed media piece from 20 odd years ago I just wanted to put into the journal so that determined the size. It's a Memories Journal it contains all those things we keep hidden in draws but can't part with because they hold special memories usually of the person that gave them to us even if there is no real monetary value to them. Now to add the signatures. Thank you so much this has been fantastic.
@@sara-leearmstrong5009 Would love for you to see it even in it's naked glory. Just trying to decided on the placement of my mixed media piece. If I put it on the front cover it will need the closure piece going through it. Hmm do I want that or do I put it on the inside front cover and so hide the back of the closure? Can't decide. Is it FB Junk Journal Junkies that you can see? If so I'll put some photos on there. Your process gives such a professional look to the cover. Had trouble with paper because of the size so after watching your tutorial I doubled the papers out of dress patterns gave them a coast of PVA & water mix and it came out great.
Conratulations on your channel! Your creations are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing with us! Do you have any tutorial on how to make the closure of a junk journal using metallic lockeys and cloth as well??? ❤🙏
Aaaw thank you 🥰 Not yet, but I intend on making that kind of closure for the "come make a journal with me slfrom start to finish" so I will be filming it then 💛💛💛
I’ve never seen this before! Great idea! I liked that you had everything prepared, and video only lasted less than 25 minutes. Question, were those real scissors in your journal? Great tip about using the backing of the adhesive paper for faux aged tape. I’m going to follow and subscribe 😀
Hi! Happy to have you join me 🥰💛 no, not real scissors, just a die cut off temu! Funny though, one of my friends said she had to take a second look too! 🩷
Hi 🤗 if I were using fabric I would likely do it in one piece, or if I wanted three different fabrics I would add some crochet or lace where the front and back pieces meet the spine fabric to cover the raw edge 💛
Love the fabric, never thought of using adhesive sheets, a great idea better than glue and a lot cleaner finish. Can't wait to see this finished journal.
Yes! Such a clean finish with no glue showing through which drives me crazy! Thank you 🥰 the 3 finished journals are up now 🩷
