That scanner looks good for day-to-day use but I feel like with these cars we always need VCDS. I use an Autel which does a great job also. Great video .
For basic use (some TDI functions and only certain adaptations like injectors and forced regen) Ancel VD700 can be had around $65-$90 US Dollars and works very well to compliment VCDS
VCDS also works with those cheap windows tablets on amazon, they usually run anywhere between 150 and 350, make sure they have a USB type A Port (the big rectangle shape that we all know and love) i installed VCDS on mine and it was great for a small device that i could scan and check stuff on my TDI
I had an older VCDS cable and I was able to trade that cable to the newer version with a 10 vin cable at a reasonable price. I definite like the VCDS over the Launch, and yes I have tried a Launch. I never used a OBD11, but I'm not into subscriptions.
I have an OBDeleven that a I got before subscriptions. I don’t think it would be worth it to have to pay for subscriptions. I also have a XTool v401. It looks like the VCDS would be easier to use with its drop-down menus.
Do you have any videos or tips for the ccv delete mods or checks. On the cjaa not to many videos out there on the ccv system. Just recently started watching your videos lots of good info.
@@JoshsJettas 😂 It's definitely on the list! I really want to do a compound turbo set up as I've seen a couple really interesting builds but I'm sure it's more than I can handle doing by myself for sure.
For emissions or ECU related problems any 5$ Aliexpress OBD dongle will read fine. On Renaults some of the older chip OBD dongles can access other modules with DDT4ALL.
Using coolant temp and fuel temp to figure out what timing should be, not as easy as vcds that’s for sure. I should’ve included it in this video but I thought of it afterwards, here’s a video using obd11 which would be the same ua-cam.com/video/Vq_ghEmqi00/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

just got a cjaa jetta, would be really interested in getting one of these to make my maintenance easier... amazon link seems dead, is there anywhere else i could get one in ontario canada?
They’ve got it listed for Amazon us but not Canada for some reason, the shipping/import fee kinda defeats the budget friendly part of it www.amazon.com/dp/B0CR3X6PYQ
So can this be used for resetting adaption values and running the basic settings ? I had my mechatronics unti rebuit and after I reinstalled it the transmission works worse than before the de-install. The company sid it was just plug and play when you receive it back but one of things they told me to do was the adaption values reset and running the basic settings. Also do you have any codes I might need to do this? PS I have the Launch Creader Elite for VW/Audi
@@JoshsJettas I was able to do basic settings and I believe adaptations by downloading the "guided functions" on the Launch . Also did the DPF regeneration twice and got rid of the EGR insufficient flow code. P0401. However I'm still getting the P0746 code pressure control solenoid A (electrical fault in circuit) returning again and again. Interestingly once the engine has been running a while all the gears suddenly start shifting normally even without deleting this code. I've also had messages (not fault codes) of no communication with ECU. Thanks for the reply.
Did you have just the dongle or a pro plan as well? My understanding it was just a fixed cost awhile ago but they changed something so it now requires a subscription. I’ve never used it before.
@@JoshsJettas well the dongle was given to me as a gift and then I had to pay for the app. And then to do anything you have to build credits basically use it and check codes and things like that to build credits to be able to actually do anything.

It’s hard to beat vcds, my thoughts exactly it would be a good day to day or take it on a trip scanner which was my main interest
Just bought the creader elite vag can't wait to try it out. I will update after I use it on audi a4

It’s definitely handy having something you can quick plug in a do basic diag. It’s hard to beat vcds though
Ancel sucks didn't do much of anything worthwhile. Don't waste your $ or listen to ppl that don't have a clue.

Yeah I had one of those for awhile, the battery life was fairly poor on it though
You can get a Thinkpad from 10 years ago or even older that runs VCDS great :P Many many good options.
Also get a 12V charger for yourb laptop. On modern ones you can do USB-C PD of course.

I agree on both points, vcds is the gold standard

So am I not a degenerate until I hood stack my alh wagon? 🤣
Great video. Thanks for the heads up on an alternative I never knew existed.
Exactly, get that hood stack installed

Any ideas on a mid priced scanner for 2012 jetta TDI with dpf issues, that also will do my other non European cars? Money problems.
Vcds can be used as a basic obd scanner on non vag cars

So how does it read the timing on an ALH TDI if no graph?

@JoshsJettas oh sweet thanks. I have a cousin who lives in Michigan so maybe I can figure something out
Have you ever come across the footwell wiring fault on the Touregs?
I know of the issue but haven’t personally yet

I've tried both the VCDS and the OBD11. After spending over $300 USD I still could not get the OBD11 to do anything but clear codes.
