I have the same engine in my F-Pace. Dealer fitted a new turbo at 57k miles with a similar failure. At 67k miles, the second turbo blew (turbo nut left the building....) and Jaguar replaced the engine under an extended warranty. Needless to say, I don't think I'll keep the car.

Seriously enjoyable chaps, very well done. A genuinely bonkers design from JLR without a thought for servicing and longevity. Never, never, never will I buy one - whatever the showroom appeal. Top quality work from you both. A thought, I'm assuming that there was none of the forbidden silver glitter in the old oil on the change?

To be fair, if I had just fitted a new turbo to an unknown engine and that much smoke came piling out, I'd be panicking slightly and wondering if I'd just wasted a pile of money so the title is probably a reasonable reflection of what went through their minds at the time. Having said that, it does come across as a bit 'click-baity'.

That smoke cloud reminded me of my '52 Customline with a flathead V8. I had some issues driving the car, it fell flat on it's face when you stepped on the accelrator and it was full of gunk in the intake. I found a quiet backroad with few neighbours and poured RedEx in the carb while ideling. It smoked like your car and a passing driver called the firebrigade. I had a lot of explaining to do...

Great job lads, I know that first start and clearing of the exhaust system after replacing a turbo very well, I just did a twin turbo Volvo D4 at the weekend, makes a single turbo look like child's play, and then after about 10 hours came the start up, all went well and residue burnt off in the first road trip, but I have never seen smoke like yours, the only thing was it was kinda white, instead of blue smoke so I rekon you were right with the DPF cleaner. It will be a very nice car for someone once it is completely finished, seats door cards and so on. Glad Chris had a good relaxing break down in Cornwall that is a nice part of the UK. I have been to the Wheel Martin Museum among other places, very interesting. I had forgotten that you have to travel from one side of the country to the other as you live in Kent so yes it probably takes quite a time to get there. From my limited experience of listening to the owner of the local Land Rover dealer, the biggest issue with these is that people don't drive them on long enough journeys, I bet this one spent it's time trolloping back and forth to the kids school or the supermarket and never got above 40mph. We owned one the same and if id did't get a decent long run every week it would trow up a check engine warning, so it turned into the cash and carry run car and we never had any issues after that.
