All our bands had to be able to perform live and draw a crowd as the pubs would not employ them i spent 8 years in Sydney 79 -87 and could pick and choose as most of the time no cover Charge
Years ago my husband had to work in Melbourne for a year. He left the kids and me in Brisbane as we had commitments here. Because money was tight he shared a house with some other guys. He said it was the loneliest time of his life and he adopted this song as his theme song. We still play this to remind us how good we have it now, being together.
I am a Truck driver, and for me, this songs reminds me of all the driving long hours and getting to the next place I have to be. Great song to play when driving.
@@geoffreydennis7750 Nice to meet you mate! I'm in Brisbane. My flatmate met his wife at that gig. They divorced earlier this year but oh what a great night. When my mate rang to tell me about the divorce we had a great laugh about that night! Let's build a time machine 😂
I drove a Taxi for a living in 1991 in Sydney. I did the 3pm to 3am shift. One day my 1st Fare took me to the Rocks, where a Pub was just opening. I was the 1st person thru the door. Hence the line early on in this song, " When the Bar is Open, you'll often find me Warming a Seat " means so much to me. Also the Bar looked exactly the same !! From memory, i had 2 beers, and jumped back into the Taxi.
Saw these guys performing in Manly tonight and had to listen to all the songs again when I got home. I'd forgotten how many great songs they had - made me feel like I was 18 again!
Musicas que elevam nossos pensamentos nos levam a lembrar tantas coisas boas e ruins que ja passamos coisas que só musicas dessa época dos anos 80 e 90 sao capazes abençoando foi quem pegou essa época conhecendo musica de verdade ❤
I love how many of the Australian bands of the 80s and 90s wrote songs that were often about the human condition - even though sometimes we were so drunk or high we hardly knew what we were shouting, on a subconscious level we knew we were singing about situations that had depth and meaning. They weren't just about young love and sex. I think that's why many of us still love these songs and never grow out of them.
Como pode ter tão pouca curtida essa música tão phoda!!! Como pode ter curtida negativa? Obrigado Hoodo Gurus por ter sido a trilha sonora da minha adolescência e início de juventude!!!
This is one of those Quiet Achiever tunes. It's status has grown over the years. If they did a Music Poll of Gurus' fans today, this song would rank very high and I mean very high. TOP 5 Gurus songs.
First time I heard this song off their album " kinky", I was in a stock mustering camp in the middle of the Australian outback a thousand miles from anywhere.
Saw them multiple times when they toured Canada. Amazing band, Dave is a great song writer. This is one of the first songs I taught my daughter on guitar.
Always loved the Gurus since I first saw them at Avalon RSL circa early-mid 80s (then walked home to Church Point in the small hours with the sun coming up at the end). I have spent so much of my working life by myself at bloody airports all over the place and on endless flights and hate it thoroughly. There is no glamour and even if you have a airline lounge membership, it is still a painful experience. All that said, the minute I sit down at an airport bar or coffee shop this song springs straight into my head, makes me smile and the experience becomes a little bit more tolerable.
I used to be a runner, before my knees demanded that I stop a few years ago. It was a non-negotiable situation. So, I started walking. I walk 3-5 miles a day, 6 days/week. I'm already at 124 miles in 2022. This song is on EVERY one of my play-lists for walking - every one! I always hit the "shuffle" option, and - oddly - this song seems to always come on when I need it. Like when the cold wind is blowing straight into my face, and I'm thinking of somewhere else I'd rather be. GREAT song!
My favourite of all time worked in Corporate. Love these guys have travelled to USA to see them. Thanks for playing in my home city Perth. Americas Cup anniversary. You guys rocked
Such a great song, such a great band. Dave Faulkner, what a songwriter; love that line: "What was that, that you were trying to say? I guess I was a thousand miles away...". So good.
Lived in Mozambique, East Africa, for two years 1994 - 96: a Hoodoo Gurus tape being one of the very few things I'd bought from Oz. Lordy, does this song bring back some memories - belted the heck out of it whilst I was away.
My brother and I are massive Gurus fans. Lucky enough to go around the pubs with them when they started out ❤ in Sydney. My brother passed away recently and this song was played. I love and miss him but this song brings him right back to me.
When I arrived in Melbourne in 1995, I really enjoyed the way the locals loved live music. I frequented The Clifton hill, on numerous occasions. I'm back in Cork now
This song reminds me of my best friend. We would always play that CD on his dad's CD player. We're still in touch and I love my family very much, but I miss those days hanging out with him. No worries, no bills, not a single care in the world. Those were the days.
Spending 240 nights on the road in sales... this song resonates with me so much! The glamor of travel is lost and those whom miss us suffer the most. A thought to all the people doing it tough on the road. Life is to short to be a 1000 miles away!
One of the most underrated songs by one of the most underrated songwriters of Australian popular music. Paul Kelly's great, but Dave Faulkner has equally strong gifts in the rock/pop song arena. I get a kick out of watching the video too - the monorail must have only just been a year or so old when they filmed this, the rooftop scenes in Surry Hills; and the very very early days of Sydney Park in St Peters - used to rollerblade around it a year or two later.
Thanking the Southern Cross and our Great Southern Land ✌️ To all of the great Aussie muso's who have Past "we salute you"! The Gurus and Oz Pub Rock for ever🙏🤘✌️🇦🇺
Not in Australia they weren't , I do know they were a hard working band week in week out they played the live music circuit filling each venue they played . Then do an album tour then start it all over again .
Hey yesterday is important because it defines who we are for tomorrow.. its lessons learnt and unlearnt in the end .. But it always does feel like a thousand miles away i guess but the importance is the gathering of oneself yet again to be creative and stay on that path ..and its not easy and people can wax lyrical about life but they dont understand the truth of an artist and its complexities when trying to exist in day to day living to keep your family alive as well .. anyway lets dance and sing out loud cos thats soul food indeed... One of the greatest and most underrated songs to ever come out of this country.
Can’t believe it only reached 37 in the charts
Oh yes I also can't believe that also. this is as good as they get a lost classic
