My family moved here in 1982. I couldn't speak a word of English and I lived in Mildura for a few months with a relative. This song reminds me of that time; how difficult it was adjusting to a new environment, being alone, catching the school bus and just feeling out of place - the little foreign 8 year old in a strange country town. It was a catchy tune and I remember wanting to learn the words. It wasn't until as an adult, I heard it again and finally understood the lyrics. Such a gutsy song for that time and era. Today, there's a lot of emotion when I hear this song, it takes me back to that place and time; how far I've come, our country's history and proud to serve this great country in my line of work.🇦🇺

Used to go see Goanna on a Saturday night in the pub scene in '80s Melbourne. Solid Rock performed on stage in a local pub arena is a memory I'm so happy to have. It likely contributed my future perspective, and I guess that's what it's all about. Experienced Shane singing a rocked-down version in an outdoor venue in St Kilda a little while ago too .. just brilliant.

What a moving comment, in the opinion of this 57 year old. I remember hearing this on FM radio station KZEW in Dallas-Ft. Worth in 1982; 38 years ago roughly. It is still as moving lyrically and musically, now, as it was then. Which I believe defines a "classic"; (perhaps I am wrong, again, my opinion). Rock on Dockers.

Domestic violence, gang wars [w/ the Maori and Vietnamese, to name a couple] I'm sorry to say but it was a bad time for all involved and the indigenous population had to be moved out of Melbourne, in mass. We still have this bad taste in our mouth and sorry we moved in [to Australia] but the rest of the world has moved beyond such things. We are ONE PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET>.

This is not only a national credit to Mr. S. Howard/ Goanna and everyone else involved in producing, composing and arranging this song, it should have attracted worldwide credit in my opinion with the support of our officials here in Australia.
On the contrary, our officials, as always interpreted the song politically and found it to be "divisive", and didnt give it their approval and most probably, instructed the high echelons of the corporate monopoly of the music industry to treat the song like an infectious disease.
The song in essence was basically telling us that there is no power greater than God,Cosmos/universe, creation,,nature etc and that we all were created by it, as mortals that live and share a finite order of system that has the power to claim back, and end its own system of creation, being us and where we live, with a grand natural disaster in an instant.
Yes the song did carry factual events of our lived history in the infancy stages before becoming a commonwealth as a federation to later years, then we created our own identities as Australians with the legendary ANZAC`s thereafter with the world wars etc. But undeniably, When colonialism arrived here, there were numerous amount of unspeakable crimes that were committed to our First Nation People without any remorse, empathy or compensation, or even an acknowledgement for way too long in my opinion.
In the time when the awareness of those crimes were, or had come to light to the people, mostly exposed by authorities/academics along with solid evidence of the crimes imposed/committed, it would have been seen as a threat to their political careers and agendas, therefore to protect their own interests (the politicians), there would have been "black covert ops" deployed to "murder" the publicity and popularity process of this great song from our beloved Goanna group, that none of the pollies would ever disclose or confess, if they were ever put in that position i dont believe, as we witnessed how our so called leaders mismanaged the whole COVID conundrum.
On that note, After Solid Rock, I personally feel an attachment/association or an obligation along with compassion in metaphoric terms, every time i hear the song "Walk In The Light Green" (I was only 19) by Redgum, to all of our Diggers past and present, along with all of their immediate families and loved ones, that are courageously, proudly and tirelessly providing their services for this beloved nation of ours selflessly.
In this day and age, we need a million more Shane Howards in support of the unknown heros that truly exist and are currently still active in organising to spread the truth at all levels and contributing so much more at other areas unselfishly in our collective endeavour to cleanse our nation of the crime and corruption that has infested every corner of our beloved Australia by the incompetent actions of despotic tyrants, that are AKA politicians, in hope to make our nation great once more to the future generations.

No. It was horrible what happened but horrible things were going on all around the world. To every culture, whites included just pick you time period. No one still holds those same beliefs now and plenty has been done to compensate. Maybe in China and Africa where slavery and similar things are currently happening but lets keep doing business with them..
Keep up the handouts and we will revert back to tribalism because our country will be broke (already is). Time to assimilate or go back to the bushes and stop complaining. The amount of hand outs to indigenous is ridiculous at this point. Anyways this was always created by the government and now us people pay for it through taxes and listening to it all. We are all Australians stop playing into the division. 99% of our current problems in the world were created or made worse by the governments around the world, stop listening to them. The voice a good example of them creating division.

Easier to make people afraid than to make them informed I'm afraid. I couldn't believe the coalition had done anything other than shot themselves in the face when they decided to oppose the voice. I thought the Australian people would be jumping at the chance to finally have the significance and importance of Aboriginal culture recognised under the constitution. But these people are calculating, they knew 8 out of 50 referendums had failed, the odds are against changing the constitution. They also knew the power of Australian media to run the negative fear campaign, and the willingness of the media to abuse their power to pursue their own political and commercial objectives. They had done the math, they knew how it was going to play out from the start and knew that it would be an easy political victory, and they were down and desperate after losing government and that's why they opposed it. I am still heartened that despite the adversity the yes vote was still very well represented, especially in younger Australians. We shouldn't forget how far we have come as a country in terms of attitudes and recognition, and we will continue on that path and try again until we succeed. It is shocking the power of the tabloid media in Australia and we have to start holding them to some standards by not consuming their rubbish.

Out here nothin' changes, not in a hurry anyway
You feel the endlessness with the comin' of the light o' day
We're talkin' about a chosen place
You wouldn't sell it in a marketplace, well
    Well just a minute now
    Standing on solid rock
    Standing on sacred ground
    Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowin' down the line
    Right down the line
Round about the dawn o' time, When dreamin' all began
    A crowd o' people came
Well they were looking for their promised land
Were running from the heart of darkness
Searching for the heart o' light
    Well it was their paradise
But they were standin' on - solid rock
    Standing o-on sacred grou-ound
    Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change were blowing cold that night
    Oh
They were standin' on the shore one day, Saw the white sails in the sun
Wasn't long before they felt the sting, white man, white law, white gun
Don't tell me that it's justified, 'cause somewhere, someone lied
Yeah well someone lied, someone lied, genocide
    Well someone lied, oh, ahh
And now you're standing on - solid rock

    Livin' on borrowed time
    And the winds of change
    Are blowin' down the line
    No!

Thanks mate, i had a Goanna CD I'm sure many years ago, I don't know what happen to it?
I'm gonna try & get the same one at JB hi-fi soon, The aeroplane over the red desert, a big rock I think, yellow background cover! Thankyou for spelling out the lyrics like that, tried to cut n paste but I can't do it for some reason on UA-cam.
Anyway there was another track on that CD ALBUM from Goanna also that I remember well, the words in the lyrics
' the the channel 7 chopper chills me to my feet' I think? What was band song about, what was the track called, was it about, the Vietnam Veterans suffering from PTSD perhaps? I look forward to your reply/comment?

The other song you are thinking of that references the channel 7 chopper is a song titled "A walk in the light green", often commonly known as "I was only nineteen".
This was done by a different Aussie band called "Redgum"
      I hope this helps.

Oh man, my mother used to play this song so much when I was a kid. Y'know when your parents play their favourite music all the time when you're a kid, but you never learn the name or band, the only thing you remember is the sound. I'm having that kinda nostalgia now as this song randomly comes on in a mix. Glad I know the band and song name now, this is going to be a regular appearance in my music mixes.

When I think of Australia's national anthem this is the song I always come back to. Brilliant.

At least it's better than Advance Australia Fair. Would much rather hear the sound of that didgeridoo and electric guitar than the boring marching band sound of our current anthem. Also the fact that this song actually acknowledges Australia's true colonial history and the genocide of the original custodians of this land based on a lie "terra - nullius" makes it a better candidate than most.
