I just made chili and cornbread in my rice cooker. Buy 2 cans Hormel Chili and one box Jiffy cornbread mix. I put 1 can Chili in rice cooker. Then made the Jiffy batter and put ONLY 1/2 batter on top of the chili. Cooked one cycle. Delicious! Used other 1/2 Jiffy batter and other can of Chili to make it again the next day. 😋 ... LOVE these new ideas. Thank you!

You can find these for cheap in thrift stores. I have a much larger one. I made the tortellini and sausage one today, and it was great. All ingredients from Aldi's. I used a full package of tortellini, 2 sweet Italian sausages cut up, fresh spinach and instead of spaghetti sauce, two cups of chicken broth that I made yesterday. My rice setting is 20 minutes and the tortellini came out a bit mushy, so next time I will shut the cooker off after 15 minutes. If you use spaghetti sauce like she did, the rice cycle will probably be fine. My version tasted great and I will get a second meal out of it tomorrow . You should try these recipes. Beats frozen burritos for taste and nutrition.

I'm a senior who lives alone and having something healthy to quickly put together is great. One dish meals are my favourite - just give me a bowl and a spoon and I'm happy. Great ideas and I hope you post more of these for us "less creative" cooks. Thanks.

I'm trying to look for a variety of easy budget friendly ideas to help as much as I can. . We had some because I had his big rig set up for simple meals but he tends to be a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Hi, Claire: Thank you for an enjoyable video. Thank you also for reminding me that I need to bring my rice cooker out of hiding, and get busy making one pot meals. They are a life saver, aren't they? To be honest, right now I am in the process of healing from both a depression that had kicked my butt to the curb, and having survived, by God's Intervention and Grace, a wicked case of Sepsis Shock. It's a miracle I'm alive. So, a rice cooker that can make one pot meals, that I can customize? Girl friend, you have inspired me. By the way, there was something so home-like about your video. I felt "invited" into your kitchen for coffee and recipe sharing. I'm sure a lot of other people who see your videos feel the same way. Nice job!

Things I've cooked in a rice cooker:
    - quinoa - wash it, use "1 cup quinoa to 1 3/4 cups water" ratio, cook just like rice. You can use it in a salad or maybe as substitute for the rice in those recipes
    - hard boiled eggs - steam them in the steamer basket for 20 minutes, use external timer, not the one from the rice cooker. I take mine straight from the fridge.
    Awesome recipes :)

But I do make the rice up for me and my sister and heat up a can of soup like hearty type kind and put it over the rice to stretch out the soup. One can for two or one can for each if your are really hungry. Soup like Cambell’s chunky soups. Get them when they are on sale. Can make it over noodles.

Threw in a package Cup Of Soup, added water and deep and frozen broccoli, plus curry powder and herbs. That’s what I could think of at the spur of the moment, after reading your post. I let it cook and simmer and ended up actually very good.
Since I try to lose weight the best thing is portion control. Also having one item to clean!
Thought I try and use it as a cooker to boil eggs. I am totally ready to experiment and looking forward to my next meal 😊 Thanks again, be safe!

When you were talking about sesame oil I couldn’t tell from the bottle you were using, but if you haven’t tried “roasted” sesame oil, run. 😅 The roasted is so much better than just plain sesame and smells delish when you open the pot. Thanks for all the great ideas using the rice cooker.

Here are a couple of my go to options that are very consistent for me.
    1) Yellow instant rice mix 1 rice cooker cup with any or all of the following:
Sausage bits or even hotdog pieces
    Frozen corn, peas, and/or carrots
    Canned, jarred, or fresh mushrooms
    Diced onion or spring onion
    Dried herbs of your choice
Mix everything and then add your water to the line, moisture in your ingredients will contribute to the final product
Sometimes I'll place a whole onion in the center of the pot first that I've sliced almost all the way through like I'm going to dice it and surround it with everything else, then put some seasoning or sauce on top and break up the onion into pieces at the end of the cooking time. I think you can do something similar with a tomato.
    2) 1 rice cooker cup of jasmine rice
    1 small diced potato
A tiny sprinkle of chicken bouillon powder
    Herbs of your choice
A couple of pats of garlic herb butter
A little extra water, usually to the next in between measuring line on the pot. The potatoes need it.
This makes a very simple pot of rice and potatoes with a bit of scorched buttery rice at the bottom. I leave the butter on top to melt instead of mixing it in. I usually salt the rice slightly on the plate and/or cover it with a sauce that comes from the meat I'm fixing in my air fryer. I love air fried bone in pork chops with this. Some corn or broccoli goes excellent with it.
Mushrooms have to be my favorite addition that I mentioned. They hold up so well and never mess with the cooking process. I've just made white rice with sausage, corn, and mushrooms that was delicious.
