Since I was a kid and my mom fed me cream of rice I loved it. I now make it by grinding long grain rice in my coffee grinder and cooking it in my rice cooker. 3 to 1 ratio of water to rice. I top it with tbsp of maple syrup and almond milk. Cost effective too.

Grits are a type of porridge made from ground corn that is not commonly available in Australia, so polenta is often used as a substitute. Grits can be made from white or yellow corn and are often labeled accordingly. They can be served with a variety of flavorings and are often eaten for breakfast. Grits taste like corn, plus whatever you cook them with, which can make them sweet, salty, spicy, or bland.

    • @YeshuaKingMessiah
      @YeshuaKingMessiah 8 днів тому +4

Grits are simply cracked corn, polenta are just about the same coarseness so each can be used for the other
Oats can be cracked also, then called steel cut/Scotch oats/Irish oats
Buckwheat can be cracked also, often called “grits” too and when buckwheat is toasted it’s called kasha
      Ain’t grains fun?

Ya wanna know how it works, cause i just had to!!!😂
It's got a thermostat set at around 212f, the boiling point of water. When all the water has evaporated the thermostat kicks it down to keep warm.
That's why the ratio of rice (or anything else) to water is so important.
If you're making a cake or brownies, same thing..... The reason the toothpick comes out clean is cause all the water has evaporated.
I haven't tried brownies tho cause it seems to me like they'd be on the dry side.😮
I guess you could try brownies, but id keep an eye on the time the first couple of tries.
Thx for these videos, gonna binge my way through your channel.❤❤

    GREAT RECIPES, THANK YOU! 😍😋
6:52 A tip for anyone making pancakes or scrambled eggs: for the best oancakes, put a few dollops of sour cream into your batter and don’t beat the batter. Mis the batter no more than about 15 strokes- just enough to not see powder. You *want* to see lumps! This makes a super fluffy, creamy pancake! I only use butter in my pan- never oil. Oil makes them crispy and I don’t like that. Also, put a few dollops of pancake batter in your scrambled egg mixture and they’ll be flyffy and a lot more filling! 😊❤

If you cant find grits you can use corn meal. The texture will be much smoother but its the same thing. In the old days we called it corn meal mush.
Grits are great with butter and brown sugar for breakfast or dinner. Or mix in some cheddar cheese for a great side dish.

Grits are ground up hominy. If you don't know what hominy is, it's exploded corn that been soaked and expanded. It has a wonderful, nutty flavor. I personally dislike grits because of the texture. And if you don't know what corn is then you don't live on planet earth. 😂

    • @lilyandrose8557

I actually had bariatric surgery almost three years ago. I had a sleeve done and it has been amazing for me! Definitely not easy and not the right fit for everyone but I have really vibed with the lifestyle. The rice cooker has been great because I can make smaller portions easily which is great for weight loss even if you haven’t had surgery! I also think the low effort definitely makes me more likely to eat something less processed or grab fast food which is a helper too!

Your garden frittata was beautiful. I'm in the process of remodeling our townhome and the kitchen is demoed. Because I can't stop projects and go out for lunch every day, I'm using a 4-cup rice cooker for all my meals and for heating up leftovers that I bring. I love cooking like this so much, that I don't even care if the stove is the last thing installed. :)

If you want the flavor savor of cheese and are a vegan or don't have cheese, try a good sprinkle of high quality nutritional yeast. It's very good and packed with nutrition. Also can make pancakes or bready biscuity type things with flax meal, golden or brown, eggs, stevia OR savory with garlic and onion powders, baking powder with some ACV [or fire cider], seeds, chopped nuts and zante currants, dried cherries, a tbsp or two almond meal, or tapioca, arrowroot, nutritional yeast, salt always....and cook in the rice cooker, though I usually do mine in the microwave...either way. It's good

I have a Ninja professional 1000 watt bullet blender. Some people have said they use the Nutribullet. I bought the heavy duty one because I saw someone say that they do a really good job. Once you are done dehydrating your greens (I use leafy greens like kale and spinach, but also green beans and such) and you're sure they are dry and cooled, but them in a good blender or coffee grinder. I make a quart jar or two at a time.
