This was so useful to hear your perspective. Thanks! We are currently house hunting and feeling overwhelmed with what neighborhood to choose because we want the proximity to things but also the space and the freedom to do what we want. Sounds like the place you have now is what would work best for us, too!
Sounds like an exciting time! We totally feel you about feeling overwhelmed by all of it. But you definitely learn SO much as the process unfolds. I’m sure you’ll end up in the right place! Good luck to you and thanks for watching!
I appreciate hearing your perspective! We have lived quite a few places as well, but not out in the country yet. How did ya'll find an agent to help you find your property? Im unsure if im suppose to tell them oh id like to be 1-2 hrs outside the city etc
We used someone we knew. But if you have a targeted area, maybe you could search out a farmer's market or something in that community and ask for recommendations of a realtor who's specializes in farm/homestead properties. Just a thought :)
What a fantastic video. Very hard to find this kind of perspective and information regarding it. I've been mostly suburban and a small amount of urban in my life, but am looking to be in something like "a suburb of a suburb. Far enough out that I have privacy and can spread out, but close enough where my daughter still has opportunities to do things. Homeschooling as well so I want her to get some experience interacting with others. Great overview of everything.
Thanks for sharing, great discussion. We’ve always lived in the suburbs but when we visit family in rural areas I love it and dream of making the move. My biggest hurdle is convenience to things, daily life needs, especially while raising kids, but also somewhat financial since more land can get really expensive, especially in a “good” school district. You guys are next level self sufficient, very impressive. And your kids will have awesome memories of it all. And I got a kick out of your farm story in the suburbs, that wouldn’t fly in my neighborhood of 1/3 acre lots either! Might make a good movie though haha.
This all makes a lot of sense! Thanks for sharing! I think the biggest thing is just being clear on your values and living that out :). Thanks for watching!
love this video, ive been strughlijg with staying in my house i built in yhe suburbs vs buying this 5 acre property 10 miles outside of the suburbs. thanks :)
I have a neighbor two doors down that have a rooster, Im surprised no one has snitched on them (wont be me), cuz Im getting ducks. LOL. Roosters are not allowed but you can have up to 4 fowl.
Ha, that's awesome! We had a neighbor down the street that kept a couple sheep. They told the city they were therapy sheep and amazingly got to keep them!
Very informative. I use to be a cable guy and worked in rural areas. Always been attracted to the nature and that lifestyle. But I would be bored as heck devoting my entire life to my wife and kids. For the life of me I can’t understand how men can be with one woman for their entire life
Yes, rural living is definitely a lifestyle I think more need to consider! As far as marriage goes, I can only share from my experience that I'm a much stronger believer in marriage and sticking with your spouse now than when I started out. It gets better and better as the years go by. And I'd say my devotion to my wife and kids is secondary to my devotion to God. It's only through the example of Jesus laying down his life for me that I'm able to do the same for them. If I make them first, or even myself first, I'll end up disappointed. But when God is first in my life, there's never disappointment. Just some thoughts. All the best to you and thanks so much for watching!
Good info. May I suggest waiting until your husband is done talking rather than cutting him off? It's tough for us guys when our wives do that and so it was tough for me to listen to the few instances of it. He seemed to respectfully wait for you to finish.
As someone who lives out in the country on a farm, I disagree with the idea that suburbs have better quality activities than rural areas. I think it is more of matter of quantity of those choices being more in the suburbs...for example, in a suburban setting there may be 3 Baptist churches that you can "shop around" to see the best fit, whereas in the rural area there may only be one Baptist church. That one Baptist church may not be the right fit for you but that doesn't make the quality bad. Quality if a very subjective thing and to make such a broad sweeping statement really comes off as snobbish. Different doesn't equal bad or less than.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching! We love rural living and maybe didn't communicate as clearly as we meant to in this video. Definitely agree that different doesn't have to equal be or less than at all :).

I’m originally from. Boston, I’ve lived in the suburbs for the last several years. I’m ready to live more rurally. I’m truly looking forward to it.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing and watching!
Honestly I just want some land so I can have a little privacy and a garden and a few fruit trees. I’m over being 4’ from neighbors on both sides 😂
Totally get it!! Hope you can find a place with a little more space. Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks. It’s fun watching couples watch each other.
Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching! 😊

You're welcome - glad it was helpful! I imagine that would be a hard decision - especially with a house that you built!

Sounds like you need to live near a city! 😂
