  • I moved from London to the countryside six months ago and wanted to share a few things that changed after moving to a small village in England. Perhaps this change of lifestyles isn't for everyone, but my life changed quite a lot. Here are the good, the bad but not ugly of moving to the countryside.

Changing something so drastic in your life does come with its benefits and struggles, doesn't it?
To me it's quite interesting to hear how these kind of experiences affect people and what they learn in the process.
I do hope that people, as you suggested, think quite carefully before making a move like that since it's not all sunshine and rainbows :D
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience in this matter :)

So beautiful ! I would never change for living in a bigger city. I have nature all around me and, at the moment, that's all i need. In countryside, i find so much poetry. Thank you for sharing such a marvelous place 💚💚💚

Me & my husband left our jobs and moved from inner city Birmingham to rural Shropshire 5 years ago. It was a culture shock. You are right, you NEED a car to drive for bread etc. Nothing is in walking distance and if I chose to trek into the village, there are no pavements on the winding country roads that lead there. There are no street lights, badgers attack our bins and our 18th century cottage is so cold due to no cavity insulation, so we have radiators and wood fires going at the same time which can be costly, the air smells of cow poop the majority if the time and we have a septic tank which we pay to have emptied every year. Those are the cons. The pro's outweigh the cons, the area is beautiful, silent except for birds, there is no traffic and the villagers know who we are. Our garden is half an acre (we would never have that size in the city). The charity shops sell genuine antiques and quality country wear. We buy our eggs from the neighbours, they give us bags of fruits and vegetables every year. We now both work together as market traders so get the opportunity to drive to different market towns and events. Work is for once in my life exciting and enjoyable and as a couple, we have never been happier. If you can move to the country, do it.

I lived both and honestly, both city people and countryside people can be too isolating and kinda keep to themselves. But there are open minded people who can admit to cons in both locations. I don’t really like going to the countryside - it raises my stress and there is not much to do, for me. I wish small towns had more things to do and were less snobby and nasty against city people and I wish cities could be more laid back and less competitive and would be more healthier and organic. I’m 100% for a non-GMO organic city.

That is the beauty of nature, it is constantly evolving and there is always something to discover. Enjoy the country life. You’ve covered most of the points on both sides of living in a smaller place. What a beautiful video you created to share your message. Lovely!

I am moving to a quieter place next week so i'm looking for other's experiences that have made the move from the big city. I'm also an introvert and that was one of my worries; being able to escape people as the beauty of the city is you can disappear when you want to and no-one will bother you. The place is actually a small town and it's only 6 miles out of the city so that has made it made it much easier for me to take the leap; i think the country proper would too big a leap and i'd be a fish outta water so maybe that's a compromise for some people who would like the quieter more peaceful way of life and still have access to the city if and whenever needed. :)

Beautiful! I hope one day I can move to a quieter place. But for now, I am happy and content with what I have been blessed with. And when the time comes to move, I will do so with the hope of making the new location feel like home as quickly as possible. I've learned that being content with what I have is half the battle when wishing I was in different circumstances. Contentedness and taking joy in what I do have is what has helped bring me peace with where I live, even though it is in a city.
    Beautiful video, as always :)

    • @IamDaria
      @IamDaria  2 роки тому +2

Aah I love your perspective on this! It’s true that first and foremost you have to be content with where you are. I feel like people often misinterpret it and think that feeling content = not wanting change. But that’s not true. It just means that you have enough gratitude and wisdom to see the blessings around, which gives even more room for positive change. Contentment isn’t a place or circumstance , it really is an attitude.

I’ve been struggling a little bit living rural and I’m not that far from town probably 25 minutes. I have a few Neighbors they are so lovely when my husband goes to work early in the morning it’s so quiet in the winter for some reason sometimes I have difficulties and I can’t figure out why I am anxious the only resolution to this is to get a job in town or I have a place to go in the morning I am such a social person I love the quiet I love the solitude I love my garden but for some reason I have some serious anxiety in the winter

I totally understand where you're coming from. I moved from London to Hampshire a few years ago and it was definitely a bit of a shock to the system! I've got to time the trains, as the trains only stop hourly where I am. Otherwise I walk into town, which is good exercise. Admittedly, I find London noisy now and I have got used to (and love) living the slow country life 😂

Never seen snowdrops in real life before. Yet there are some naturalized weeds from Britain here at the 'tip of Africa': Dandelions (of course), hawksbit, water forget-me-nots, cleaverwort, dwarf nettle, herb robert, 'summer snowflake' flowers (bulbs), broom tree, oak tree, elder tree, St John's wort...Am sure there are more 'finds' have yet to come across. About five years ago I came upon a marvelous discovery at Schoenstatt cemetery: 'Bellis perennis' - the common daisy of (childhood game) daisy-chain making fame. Someone must of - supposedly - scattered some daisy seed intentionally there. I haven't seen them grow anywhere else. Where you guys are - now I would have a ball in England if I were there - exploring the botanical tapestries of the rolling countryside 🌄

It's funny listening to a city person complain about the country life!!!
She talks about not having much entertainment yes, that is true but us country folk are good at entertaining ourselves. We also like to go to each others house and have a good chit chat, play music, dance and eat each others food, everyone loves baking so many of our neighbours always come by with cooked food.
I am from Scotland so I had never ate shortbread from a tin until I lived in the big city for 5 years.
If you aren't used to that lifestyle then yes you are going to struggle and that's fine, you will adapt eventually.
We will still think of you as a city girl no matter what you do, we can tell by the way you walk and talk 😂😂😂😂, it's so obvious.

I love how you’re trying to judge me by the place where I was born and brought up as if that’s something I was able to choose. And limit both of our experiences only to that shared on the internet - also based on location.
And I love country life, never complained about it.
      I hope you’re having a good day 😊
