That is awesome, I am old, and as a child the TV was only on at night, 2 hours? News and a regular show. I remember Bonanza, was one of them. I was a country kid, and my time was mostly outside. I think you are doing a good thing. Enjoy it while you can. Your children will grow and make their own choices later.
You two are just so wholesome! And your channel is such a refreshing voice of moderation. While other channels give the message is that happiness is attained through acquisition of money, and through endless grinding and hustling. Yours releshes in the simple message of "having enough" and living modestly, within your means, while focusing on the things that truly bring our lives meaning. Such a hidden gem of a channel. Thank you.
My son is about to be seven and has never watched tv or a movie. I wish we could meet other families/friends his age that are at least hardly ever watchers.
I hear ya!! We very much feel like the odd men out in certain social circles but there are others out there on the same page! Hope you and your son and can find your people locally :)
High five! I got rid of mine 10 years ago, and that was the day I actually started living my life. It sounds weird, but I don't get bored anymore. I used to, when I did have tv, but without it, I don't think I have once. There's constantly something to learn or explore or get done. In fact, I only stumbled on this video because I wanted to learn to make cheese and yours popped up. It was a great video and soon I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks for teaching!
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing! We can definitely echo the getting bored thing... once you start pursuing your real passions there just isn't time for it. Thanks so much for watching and happy cheesemaking as well! 🧀
I try to limit TV time for our kids by making it a treat at the end of the day after our school day and chores are finished. I see children and toddlers with devices all the time when we are out. That is something we have just never done. Our oldest son has a cell phone because he drives, and we want him to be able to get help in an emergency. We use it for grocery pick up or directions if we are on a trip. We also don't pay for TV. We have internet and a smart TV so we can stream most things for free. I would love to get to the level at which you all are. My husband however likes his TV so I will have to settle for cutting the time down and not out. Love the content you are putting out!
Really enjoyed this video guys, thank you! As a child, tv was a deep source of anxiety for me. Between the news and mystery shows my parents watched. But on the flip side I also used tv as a distraction and "coping mechanism" for my anxiety as well. SO UNHEALTHY!! I often wonder how much better my anxiety could have been as a child, had I not had the option for it, or simply had limits on it. My husband and I have not had a tv throughout our entire marriage, and have full intentions of being very disciplined with keeping it that way when we start having kids in the near future. Thank you guys for all the content you put out. I am always encouraged and blessed by your content! Many blessings- Kate
Thanks so much for sharing! I think we're just beginning to realize how much screens can influence us. You're both making such a good investment in your health, your marriage, and future family! Keep it up ❤️
No tv No devices Even in their teens, they do NOT need phones I would get a laptop to teach them computer things and typing on, (maybe for educational games too) but not before age 10-12. Handwritten before then is imp. Movies are nice a few hrs a week but if dad can’t control his tv usage, just get rid of it. My kids had/have to ask to turn on a movie but answer was usually no. Music we play alot tho! We have a cd player. We listen to books alot too.
Our children enjoy Friday night fun night. One hour of either Doc Martin or Andy Griffith. We did not have it for ten years at all, and I personally would prefer to go back to no tv.
That can totally be challenging when everyone's not on board. Maybe try introducing it in fun but subtle ways. Like a no technology family night where you bake something or play a game together. For a while we did a family Amish night (doesn't have to be called that) where we put away phones and screens, dimmed down the lights, maybe even lit candles, and just did things together like read books or played games. Just an idea. All the best and thanks for watching!
We have a television set. We have Wii, the original one, and watch movies on it. It isn't hooked up to any television service or have an antenna, though. People act like we are crazy! I was approached at Sam's one day about switching our television provider. When I told them we didn't have one or want it, the guy laughed and said he'd never heard of that before.... 😂
My husband and I are like you both as far as the anxieyvs numbing with the shows growing up. I can't watch a lot of things like you Joelle, but they don't really bother my husband. Love your channel - just found today ❤😅
Hello, new follower here! I don't think zero TV is ever going to be our family's reality but we are pretty intentional about what we do watch-- travel and nature shows on Discovery Channel, a handful of UA-camrs, and a few cooking shows are our favorites. However, we are definitely considering limited/purposeful screen time for our little ones who are just around the corner. I think the biggest setback would be interference from extended family and friends, but then I'm expecting that regarding a lot of the decisions we will probably make. Do you experience criticism or interference from your own family and friends about choices you make for your family, and how do you overcome it?
That’s a really good question. I think those comments bothered us more initially but overtime they’ve gotten less and less or else I just don’t care or notice them anymore. I think as we’ve gotten more confident in our values and the choices we’ve made for our family, it’s gotten a lot easier but it’s been a process! Thanks so much for watching and all the best!
Excellent parents - good on you both I commend you - my mother never watched Tv I refuse to own one - people need to understand MK Uktra & what it represents and the Tv was designed for the purpose of programming humans
Thanks so much for the kind words! It can all be a slippery slope for sure. It’s hard to see some of the impacts when tv is a normal part of your life but the benefits become so clear when you start living without one.
@@FromScratchFarmstead Sadly many things they deem “ Normal “ Google “MK Ultra “ this will explain everything not just horrible TVs and human programming - Ty for the kind words but indoctrinate yourself in what MK Ultra is and it’s history
Hey there! We listen to a podcast called The World and Everything in It. It's about 30 minutes every weekday which fits perfectly into our morning routine. Been listening for a few years now and we'd highly recommend it. Thanks for watching!
I don't have TV at my house. The grands tind other things to do. I have lots of games and they play outside. I'm not paying the price for it and it's not necessary.
Kids will always find something to do. I can tell the ones on devices mostly as they whine about it and claim boredom but they eventually learn to join in with the normal kids (way less common now, yes-but they’re the normal ones still)
The best i can think of is old fashioned local in person lessons! Our kids take violin with a local instructor. There might be local groups you can join too. I started playing guitar at church a couple years ago and have learned and grown a lot in that time just from being challenged in that environment. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
I have a tv I never used but because its attached to the wall, we keep it. I deleted all my social media expect for here. I got rid of Amazon. I am so glad I did all that. However, my kiddo still watches Bluey and Ms Rachel 2hr a day.
Thanks for sharing and kudos on taking those steps! You're setting a great example for your kids, which is the best teacher. Just like habits take time to build, they take time to change. One thought might be to slowly implement new habits over time that can help those around form new habits. Like a short family reading time or playing a game together might be something your child really looks forward to as time to connect with you that can replace at least some of that tv time. Just some thoughts! Keep it up! And thanks for watching!
Controversially, while I do think we need less screentime, I do think we should be making nurses' lives easier when trying to do a necessary procedure on a little person who might make it difficult. The distraction isn't because the nurse doesn't want the kid crying, it's because kids flinch and thrash and might hurt themselves. Anyway. I also think that TV is just one more way of telling stories, and stories are great fuel for play and imagination. I think kids need less or even no screentime before they can read and write, but I also don't want my kids disconnected from the wider culture. I knew kids from when I was one who didn't have a TV and they just were so left out of conversations and games with kids that were based on cartoons etc. It's a tough choice, but it sounds like you're thoughtful about all of it, so I'm really happy it's working out.
Good job! I think you might be Christian, if you are I'd like to share that christmas and other mainstream holidays are pagan and the Lord detests them. Consider praying sincerely about it. Love yall!
Very good. TV has become a cesspool. Good for you!

That seems like a much healthier balance than our childhood experience. Thanks for sharing and watching!

Thanks for the compliment 😊. We’re not perfect but grateful to be on the road we’re on.

If you have screens, especially UA-cam, you still have a TV. Just a portable one.
That's true! For being a content creating family, we still try to avoid screens as much as possible. :)

Sounds like a fun family night! Thanks for sharing!
Incredible!
Thanks for watching!
My pastor has read several Tim Keller books and has quoted from them in church when preaching.
This is excellent. Your family is way better off only watching limited tv.
Thanks for watching!
Congrats for making an excellent decision for your family.
Thanks for watching! 😊
I love this!!!! I wish only that I can get my wife on the same level and as well as our children

It’s funny how things effect is differently! I definitely see this in our kids now too! Thanks so much for watching!!
I hope our kids wind up being like you guys.
That's a very nice compliment!
Hi from Israel❤
We also don't have TV🎉
So glad you are here!! Love it!

Ppl won’t listen to this
Truth is hard and inconvenient
Sadly
You bo5h are awesome!
Also, I took on the personalities of the shows I watched, which means I still to this day have no idea who I am.
Yes! This is definitely another symptom of too much media consumption. Thanks for sharing!
How do you guys get your news?

is there a good way to learn an instrument without watching a video on it?

Good points!! Definitely something for everyone to consider what’s the right fit for them!
We wanted our kids disconnected from the culture! The culture here is sick!
Kids not in front of screens are nearly as apt to thrash about. They are self calming, self discoverers AND mom was right there.
I dont like tv and I don't watch it thar much
