I like cyclops.
It would seem I have underestimated the Cyclops fanbase
+SNES drunk Yeah i bet your ass you had :-P lol
He shoots fucking lazers from his eyes.
Not in the video games, though. He stinks.
KingZora13 same
I liked Cyclops ever since he went ape-shit on Mr. Sinister on the cartoon. Dude was giving everyone hell for like two episodes, and Cyclops breaks loose and literally melts him into pieces with his optic blast and tells him in short that he's a worthless piece of shit. After that, I was like "yeah, Cyclops is cool."
Good point
Thank you. I love your videos. They are funny and informative.
Cyclops has always been one of my favorites, he's constantly undervalued and the depictions of him in the movies has been criminal.
I’ve never seen a side of Cyclopes that made me a fan. In any cartoon, movie or comic, but I follow xmen comics less than most others.
Wolverine fans hate Cyclops because Cyclops gets to go home to Jean Grey every night while Wolverine moans and cries about it.
read the comics Cyclops is a straight up douche in more ways than one and that is an understatement
Psylocke and Beast, two of my favorite under-represented heroes in this game, I love it!
With you on psylocke. Cool to have in the game. Beast was ok could've went with another choice and ud be ok with it
She was definitely the best character in this game, something about her move set. That drop kick back flip thing she did was everything.
I'm sure this has been said but they didn't allow Rogue and Storm as playable characters because they can fly.
Rogue can fly too? o.o
Yup. Rogue got most of her powers by accidentally absorbing the powers of Ms. Marvel, who can fly.
they turned rogue into a weakling in the movies. she was one of the toughest in the animated series.
@@Jack_80 yea i dont like how they did rouge in the movies
@@thebest12700 The way they treated Rouge was a low blow, champ.
Psylocke inspired Kitana and Mileena. She is also the sexiest girl in Marvel Comics so...yeah, she is very important
Woman
@@jacobprayer8656 No.
All women are sexiest women because most artists draw them all the same way other than the face.
@@dingle2987 Most comic book artists give all their girls the same face.
@@shr00mhead True, sometimes they don't though. When Salvador Laroca isn't rushing out art he sometimes draws characters with different features like Indian noses or wide noses for African characters. Also, Asian Psylocke some times has Japanese eyes. But the rest of the face is usually the same.
Cyclops is actually my all-time-favorite mutant, i hated the movies trilogy for depicting him as a wimp, when in fact he was/is the leader and most well prepared x-men of all time
Agreed, and recently his been way more badass and anithero than staus quo Wolverine.
U both have no idea. He was an uptight asshole for 40 years of comics, and THEN they tried to make him an 'antihero' like Wolverine... when in FACT he is a stuck up pantywaste like Superman (until they tried to make Superman a sweeeeet antihero like Wolverine...) why do I fucking bother????
I always thought he was a condescending asshole, mainly due to the 1990's animated series, and because of my love of Wolverine. But going back, I actually found I began not, so much to like him, but see things from his prospective. He's the team leader, so yes, he's going to have to be a dick, but it comes with the role.
Dash you probably like robin too
Dash in xmen vs avengers cyclops was fricking amazing
I don't know if I can take you seriously for saying Apocalypse is lame.
solblackguy I agree Apocalypse is 1 of the best villains in X-MEN history
In this game, Apocalypse could have been much better...
Concur, in the animated series this game was based on at least Apocalypse was the _ultimate_ villain. He was just indescribably cool, in no small part thanks to his unbelievably bombastic voice provided by the late and unparalleled John Colicos. "I am *Apocalypse!* Look upon the future and *tremble!"*
Came here to say this. I like and appreciate Magneto, and I am a huge fan of the comics and both 80’s and 90’s shows, and Apocalypse is so badass in those. Now the movies are a totally different story 😂
Great review
@@freakinflax The movie was weird for a number of reasons. He kills people by merging them into objects, and he is shown to have some sort of telepathic abilities when mentally fighting Xavier. Yet they only let him grow huge in Xavier's mind instead of in the real world. They also do not give him a replacement for the Celestial based techno suit that gives him most of his extra powers like energy blasts.
maybe rogue wasnt included because her powerset would break the game, she can fly and is invulnerable, etc. plus it would might have been hard to adapt her power drain power. I would have liked to have colossus in the game instead of beast.
Colossus would have been cool, but Beast doesn't get enough love. He's incredibly smart, agile and strong, can cling to walls and ceilings, and is just all-around an awesome guy. I feel like we could all use more Beast in our lives.
Hank is the best char to beat Magneto in this game
Nah. Japanese designers from capcom (and snk) LOVE psylocke. And omega red.
Yeah, I always thought Beast was lame, so I would have taken Colossus over him for sure. But it def would have been cool to have Rogue in there, as she was always one of my favourites.
But Collosus can't stick to ceilings, so he doesn't add variety to the gameplay like Beast does.
I like Cyclops :(
He was great in Children of the Atom
The only thing cool about Cyclops is his optic blast.
I knew I said this already in another comment lol
True, but his Optic Blast is amazing. He's a Glass Cannon. They had to severely weaken his blasts for games. In the comics he can blast a small hole through a mountain if he wants, or use a spread beam to sheer off what's on the surface. His Mutant power causes him to tap into another dimension where unlimited power comes rushing out through his eyes. Scott is lame, but his power is amazing.
@@allnamesaretakenful that's a retcon then, he used to be sun-powered
So was psylocke
Gambit can throw a single card with f-f-attack.
I actually do like Cyclops - he's a great leader and his power is so much more powerful than people give him credit for - he's awesome in the original animated series
Apocalypse could beat the living crap out of Magneto
12 year old me would respond with, "So? Magneto is way cooler."
+DK64galaxy apocalypse assschmockalypse, who cares :D
its all about magnus.
Well, actually Magneto ripped apart Apocalypse at his peak, in the climax of Age of Apocalypse, so...
That’s the advantage of being a lazily created character whose powers are whatever the writer feels like. Seriously look up his power set he can do anything. He puts Superman to shame
Apocalypse is one of the most interesting Marvel Villains. My problem with him is he's usually too powerful, but that's what he is, a super threat who could kill just about any non-cosmic hero 1 on 1, but he likes to use minions instead.
Cyclops is the undisputed best leader of the X-men. Storm was badass but Cyclops put wins in the X-column reliably for decades. He got bitchefied for the 90s cartoon and the movies but in the comics he's a goddamn boss, respected by all the X-men, even the "90s gritty aloof badass charmer" X-men. He's also liquidated a Sentinel that showed up on his lawn in a second, and also ran an independent mutant country with much more success than fan-favourite Magneto. So yeah, Cyclops is fucking sick.
stellaroj and the old xmen cartoon before the 90s one, it was shown in 89 and it lasted only one episode
stellaroj Storm actually got legitimacy for the X-Men. She racked up important wins too. Cyclops really just exist cause he’s Jean’s man and Wolverine’s rival. Other than that, cyclops is boring
Less to do with his effectiveness in combat. We don't like Cyclops because his powers, look, and personality all seem kind of boring, and that's the one thing a super hero should never be.
I dug this one. Thought it was the best 16-bit X-Men game after X-Men 2: The Clone Wars on Genesis.
Psylocke was an active member of the team during this time period in the comics. She was quite popular and she also appeared in the first 2 X-Men and Marvel fighting games on the arcades. Children of The Atom and Marvel Super Heroes. The X-Men platformer games needed more Rogue but we eventually got her in X-Men Vs. Street Fighter.
during this generation, rogue only appeared in the x-men for sega gamegear, what is a pity. she should really have been a playable character in this one, since she's the only one missing from the blue team, which is literally the roster of this game right here. i think she was left out because of her ability to fly, which would complicate many things in the balance of the level design, delaying the release of the game... so maybe they just decided to forfeit her
This is one of the hardest games I've ever played
99% of the comments are about Cyclops, lol
Anyone who grew up in the 90's usually thinks he's lame. He was portrayed as such a lame prude on the cartoon, and he always sucked in the video games. And James Mardsen did a great job of making him unlikable in the movies. He's the antithesis of Wolverine, who we all loved.
And the rest are about Apocalypse
must be a love-hate thing
@@frozenaorta comicbook fans know there's more to the character than all that. I mean, he's still not universally loved or anything, but there's more to the character than that.
Also Storm. Storm got completely shafted in the X-Men movies. Not in the same kind of way, Storm just didn't do anything relevant in the movies. Cyclops at least had a place in the story as being a pain in the ass for Wolverine. What did Storm actually DO in any of those movies? Best character in the whole fucking franchise and she was just the sexy lady with weather powers.
@@KWHere2 I only read the comic during the early 90's, when his character was largely absent, and mostly only relevant as Cable's father. I guess I just never liked him, although I'm aware of his origins as the team leader when founded.
Yeah, Storm was amazing and complex in every comic from any era I saw her in. The movies did her zero justice, and even the cartoon made her sort of lame more often than not (she always spoke these over the top "spell-casting" phrases whenever she would conjure up some wind, lightning, etc). Ororo wasn't even available to play in most of the video games, and when she was, like in the arcade, she was a weaker character. She definitely got shafted.
Psylocke was THE thickness of video games. Pausing during her ducking or jump kicks was a tradition.
Hahaha first character trait for Psylocke, "matchless beauty." Accurate according to 12 year old me.
That's accurate according to 27 year old me
I liked Cyclops. He was the leader. Like Leonardo of the Turtles.
Yea whats wrong with this guy lol
I always loved cyclops as a child .
I even thought he was too strong because he had lasers
Liking the leader is lame. Like liking Lamenardo from the Turtles.
Exactly. Raphael, Mikey or Don way cooler
Yeah, liking the teachers pet, so not cool...
I've tried playing it over the years and always find it way too hard... Plus, I like Cyclops XD
The reason Psylocke is in - Capcom and Japan LOVES Psylocke. You only need to look at how much care went into her depiction in Children of the Atom.
This game is amazing. I've beaten it dozens of times and it made me so happy when I got it on Christmas. I loved it so much. And yes, I like Cyclops.
And wtf dude, Apocalypse is awesome. You have no dignity.
I actually love Cyclops, like, *love* him
Xmen children of the atom made me a huge Cyclops fan
Cyclops is my favourite mutant.
You should check out Marvel Super Heroes War of the Gems. One of my first SNES games and it really stands the test of time.
My first snes game! I still got it. Great music; the Psylocke scenario it’s still my fav.
Psylocke was my fave character and favourite stage and music in this game! I keep playing this stage on my phone.
This was one of my favorite SNES games. Fun fact, each person has their own first level you need to complete before you can move forward. Afterwards you can play as any character afterwards. My favorite level was playing as Wolverine agains Tusk. I played it over and over again!
a xmen game collection of all of the xmen games from the 90s would be awesome.
My issue with all the old games was. Wolverine never had his power, ever. He had claws, but never the healing power. They could have balanced it out by making his level super hard. A bonus would be playing that level with any other mutant. Making it something extra for the most dedicated player.
I enjoy how you do your reviews with a casual attitude but still give it a great critical review. Keep the glasses full and the reviews coming!
Thanks!
Let's argue: Cyclops is AWESOME. Totally underrated.
I love the metaphor - someone who's been subjected to prejudice his whole life, can only see red, and needs to find a way to re-channel his rage into something good (this is why there's a lot of artwork with Cyclops angrily yelling with a big crimson beam shooting from his eyes). He's super powerful, too. X-Men fans give him crap but I love the way that first X-Men movie from 2000 describes his power "He can punch a hole in a mountain just by looking at it." But there's a limit to his power, he has to wear those ruby quartz glasses or else he can't see, and if he tries, he'll kill everyone around him. It's complex. It's an extremely cool-looking and formidable power. And it's a great analogy for transforming the frustration of bigotry into a positive force for the world. Cyclops is one of my favorite mutants. He deserves to be.
James Marsden made a huge mistake brushing off the Cyclops character. I like Cyclops. I liked him as Cyclops. What a waste.
I'm sorry for another "Cyclops comment" but I just had to get this all out there.
Was this comment... offensive?... Does my comment really require retaliation?
One of the best Xmen games. Hey, remember that Ciclops was the guy that did the epic handshake with Ryu!
I used to play this game over and over and over man I miss being young
Hey, Snes drunk! Just wanted to say your videos are awesome thanks! Enjoy them as much as I enjoy ClassicGameRoom reviews. Keep it up!
Thanks!
Can’t believe I didn’t have this growing up. I had street fighter 2, mortal Kombat and killer instinct. I had side scrollers. But I missed out on this. Loved the arcade game and would’ve really loved a decent or good xmen game to play at home.
Total length of video: 175 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": .5 secs.
.29% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
I loved this game. Wolverine and Psylocke were my favorite
I wonder if the X Men UA-cam resurgence from the the ‘97 series resulted in this video spiking
I like your reviews a lot. Especially how you explain that you can use the hadouken command
zackdufois Thanks!
Psylocke was chosen cause apparently she is very popular in Japan. She was even on the cover of Marvel vs Capcom 2. And that is why she is always featured in all Capcom XMEN games.
The game is well built: the levels work well with various challenges (not just defeating enemies), the graphics and sounds are great, learning to choose the characters according to the levels is interesting, the characters are cool and the blows are useful and balanced. The game also has a serious atmosphere that has always been part of the x-men. This is not a game, it is a masterpiece. And few years ago to much young people liked x-men a lot! This game brought everything we wanted in an x-men game (taking into account the limitations of the console).
The arcade game was pretty enjoyable. My sister, friends and myself would play this and the TMNT arcade version every weekend when my mom took my family to the video rental place almost every weekend. Good times those were. Rent 2 games on Friday night, return them before Monday morning.
Here in Dayton OH we had Blockbuster of course. But the place we went to was Video Showcase. It was packed every weekend and the popcorn was always fresh. Sometimes I would "accidentally" walk into the 'adult' rental area just to sneak a peek.
Thanks as always SNES DRUNK for allowing me to access memories long forgotten.
The Sega X-men game was AMZING! I always played as Night Crawler. Others too. Such a great game.
Yo the sega X-men game was hard as F! I had it but it was just so hard.
@@michaelcorrigan6577 I think I only made it to the second stage lol. Haven't played it since I was a kid though.
I loved the graphics and how they basically threw in everything 90s x-men fan would want. But it was hard. I think I had to use a healing cheat code to beat the game.
@@jngx80 which game? R u talking about the SNES or SEGA version?
Man, I like Cyclops. :(
Fun fact (since Arcade1Up and capcom are rereleasing this and Marvel War Of The Gems in their own cabinet collections with the capcom fighters): the moves from this game actually got used in the later Marvel crossover games. All of it was reused. Pretty dope tbh.
I finished it these days... amazing game! Totally worth play it.
Cyclops is the man , Agree with the other posters the films didn't do him justice at all he was kickass in the tv-series and as a kid watching it at the time i thought his costume looked cool
This game is a fucking gem: gameplay, sprites, and THE OST are simply amazing!!
Really love this title. Not sure I’ve seen many beat em up / platformer hybrid games before. Wish there were more like this.
There is also Marvel Super Heroes: War of The Gems on the SNES. Check it out if you haven't already.
I like Cyclops and Apokolips, stop your hatin'
This is the best lineup of an X-Men game ever. I love Cyclops and I love Psylocke. I'm actually not a fan of Beast or Nightcrawler, I guess I just don,t like blue characters. I have to say it would had been nice to see Jubilee, Rogue, Storm, and Jean Grey as well. But this is good. Cable and Bishop would had been fine too. I also like Colossus, Sabretooth, Magneto, and Omega Red, but I understand some of them are villains. I would say Deadpool and Spider-Man fit well in the X-Men World as well.
Cyclops is a bit of a dork, but you gotta have the classic do-gooder hero to contrast with bad ass antiheroes like Wolverine and Gambit, he fills out the team nicely, but if that's not enough; OPTIC BLAST!
this game is why i ever loved Psylocke in the first place and she's still one of my favorite female heroes ever
Cyclops is honestly the comic book patron Saint of managers and virgos
I had this game when I was young. When I finished all the mutant storylines I would pick Wolverine to get through the racing lava stage and got me through the rest of the game. Wolverine was the only character fit to get through the racing lava section. He was quick while the others were slow as molasses.
*I could never nail Gambit's up-throw move, which is why I couldn't beat the helicopter boss.* 😑😑😑
I love this game when I was a kid! I too was jealous that the Genesis had Xmen games back in those days. Hey ever thought of making a review on Marvel Super Heroes War of the Gems?
I'm glad they didn't censor psylocke's outfit ☺️. Psylocke has the best move set in this game. You could literally just put her directly into a fighting game like XvSF or MvC2 with those moves. She has a good anti-air, the slide provides good rush-down and getting past fireballs, and the psychic knife move is a great combo finisher😁
The moment I heard the words "who even likes cyclops", I knew this video wasn't worth my time.
I think it would have made more sense if he said "Who even likes Iceman?" despite the fact that he wasn't in the game at all. ;P
I thumbs down the video at that moment.
I pretty much slipped into a coma when I realized the Capcom/Marvel merger. And pretty much lost my mind when I discovered X-Men Children of The Atom. I would literally spend a whole day at the arcade either playing or watching ppl play. Great times as a 90s kid
There's also a toward toward attack as well...one of my favorites on SNES...
The Capcom signature in SNES games = quality
Wolverine was a badass
They should’ve replaced Cyclops with Rouge. That way there would be 2 girls and 3 guys. It was cool to see Beast in a game (finally).
Cyclops cuz he's the DAMN Team Leader since Origin, and Psylocke for the AssCheeks
Actually, the SNES got an X-Men game first. It's Spider-man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge. It's not a great game, and they get Gambit's name wrong, but it's still an X-Men game for SNES, and it came out before X-Men for Genesis.
I love mega x men. X mega men. Mega men x.
Love this game too but it could be very difficult at times I can only beat it with Beast at the end
I think cyclops is a great character! If you’ve seen the 90’s cartoon, he has great character development, and he was their before wolverine! (But we all love wolverine better than cyclops right?)
Dead on with the Cyclops point, was always bummed as a kid if I somehow got stuck playing him.
I used to love playing this game as a kid, I'll have to find a copy somewhere so I can relive some memories. Oh, and I like Cyclops. Not as much as Gambit or Wolverine mind you, but I still think he gets too much flack :P
Lol ik this is old but i still came to comments to defend Cyclops as an S-tier mutant. Made me happy to see cyclops defense force was on top of things alread 😂😂
This was my childhood even though I barely played it sadly.
I liked that Psylock was in most pre generation x-men games. Though i was confused why she was more playable in games than Rouge. Though i do like both characters
The sega version was my favorite growing up.
I could never get far in this game because I didn't know how to do the special moves. In Training Mode, you could do the moves with the X button, so I always just played that mode.
Wolverine has the same moves as in “war of the gems”
One of my favorite soundtracks.
Apocalypse isn't lame at all - you need to read some X-Men and X-Factor from the late 80s/early 90s.
I always preferred this game to X-Men or The Clone Wars on the Genesis.
Psylocke was chosen because she is very popular in Japan.
I wish this game would get a remake.
Oh and bro Cyclops has been my favorite character my favorite superhero of all time since the late 80s
I still want this game for my collection, looks awesome
Cyclops is incredibly badass and horribly underrated
Jean Grey chose Cyclops over Wolverine. That why Wolverine fans hate Cyclops.
This was easily the best X men game i ever played
looks like alot of the animation was applied to x men children of the atom. I did have fun with this back in the day. still played the genesis version more tho. nice vid!
You dont read X-Men comics. If you did, youll know how important and impactful Cyclops was in most of the X-Men storylines
Cyclops is literally one of the most popular characters lol. Guess he does like x man as much as thought
@SNES Drunk. That mutant team is the blue mutant team in the comics. The others are in the Gold team. If you search xmen blue team you will see it.
cyclops ftw
Exactly! i actually like Cyclops to be completely honest
Amazing game. Great single plane beat-em up.
Why is Psylocke here? #1:18 matchless beauty. Ooooooooooooooh!
I fucking love Cyclops since day one, the Mutant Revolution in 2014 is even better
i always wondered why capcom didn't use beasts sprite from this game and use it for the x-men fighting games on ps1 saturn and such. would be cool to play as in those games
I'm pretty sure even 4 year old me knew that Cyclops is in this game because he was the leader of the X-Men at the time. I also am a fan of Cyclops so yeah.
Still solid review for this great game.
Did you made avideo on Wolverine Adamantium Rage ?
I didn't think Apocalypse was that cool either until he was shown to be a Egyptian Pharaoh and God and one point in XMEN TAS
