- Nukeproof Scout Dream Build
For the last few years I have always wanted to build a hard-core hardtail for the winter months to save the pivots of my full suss Nukeproof Mega from getting ruined in the winter slop. So I finally decided on a frame and intended on building a budget bike but it soon got out of hand and I ended up building a dream build hard-core hardtail.
Frame - Nukeproof Scout 290
Forks - Fox 36 Performance Elite 150mm
Bars - Nukeproof Horizon 31.8mm x 800mm x 30mm
Stem - Nukeproof Horizon 31.8mm x 35mm
Grips - DMR deathgrip
Brakes - Hope tech 3 V4
Rotors- Hope 6 bolt floating (fitted lifeline in this edit as waiting for 180mm red Hope rotors to be delivered)
Pedals - Hope F20 flat pedals
Groupset - Shimano Deore / SLX (all I could get hold of)
Seat post- Brand X Ascend 2 dropper
Saddle - Nukeproof Horizon Sam Hill
Wheels - Hope Fortus 30 front and Fortus 35 rear
Tyres - Maxxis DHF front and rear with rear on reverse tread (read some of the pros run this way so trying it out)

Yeah, yeah, sick build but seriously overshadowed by that epic 3rd hand tool at 2:00!
Oh I do love the scout!!
Congrats SEKTA !
This video, this video is just epic and raw! We ain't dealing with music so you can't get 5 🎤 but you'll definitely get 5 🚲.
Thanks bro 👊😎🤘
Really nice build !! 👍👍
Love the Scout!! 😍
Love the red components !! 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for your videos, I like to watch them when I can’t go riding.
Thanks so much Eric. Its a great bike for sure. Looking forward to some Summer epic rides on it now.
👊😎🤘
Superb, love a Scout… even better when it’s been spec’d ❤️👊💥 Just needs a good session @FoD now 😉
You know it 👊😎🤘
Looks lovely bud
Cheers Luke 👊
Definitely prefer the yellow build dude
Great video just bought a scout 290 great to see it go together as really useful
Arrrh nice one you'll love it. I've just upgraded to the new V3 model and a seperate build edit on that is on my channel too 👊😁🤘
Siiiick. Bike is 🔥
Cheers G man, I really enjoyed building this one 👊
We need to come and check out some of the trails your way one year, they are off the charts!!!
@@SEKTAMTB hell yeah, buddy. I have accomodation when you're ready 👯♀️
Nice bike! Love the color combo.
Cheers, me too!
A thing of beauty! Wish I'd have got me a scout! 🤦♂️
It's an awesome rowdy hardtail for sure. The geometry is 👌
@@SEKTAMTB gorgeous bike mate
I've just been looking at buying one of these and spec'ing red components but wondered how it would look. Love it! Great build!
Yeah man I think it looks wicked and really pops with the subtle bits of red on this frame. Happy building 👊
@@SEKTAMTB What size dropper did you end up getting? I've ordered a 150 for my Medium frame but now wondering if i could run a 170 / 200 - any thoughts?
@Sparkycycles yeah I put 170mm and its perfect. I'm 5'8 and 32" leg.
@@SEKTAMTB amazing cheers mate! 170mm ordered haha 😄 cant wait to start this build!
Nice mount on with building a couple of bikes myself a hard tail Scott superlite and a old school Marin east peak full suss.
Might see you out and about I'm over in Bradford.
Nice one sounds good. I'm actually down South bud but do get back up to see the family every now and then and hit up Dalby, Wharny or Leeds
Build looks sick but I think you should add some red or grey fox logos on the fork
I did gets the stickers with the forks and they were actually red but I decided to keep full stealth in the end. Still got them so might add on at some point when I fancy a change.
I need to finish my Overcast blue Scout 275. Finding parts is difficult. Found my purple hubs though.
Nice. I must have just dropped on a Hope delivery as I managed to get everything from a few different shops.
looking to build one of these up needing help on the sizes for the headset cups
It should come with the headset cups fitted mate.
Subbed 👍more scout videos please
Deffo mate, been too busy playing on the big rig lately.
👊😎🤘
Size rotor u go stock on front back
Dude when you started scraping the fork on the concrete I was like what the hell 🤣
I'm building a Scout 290 myself with the blue frame, I'm using a Fox 34 Performance Elite (not a lot of big hits where I live), Nukeproof Horizon V2 wheels, and an XT groupset. Should turn out killer!
Ha ha that was a homage to Sam Pilgrim. Sounds like your Scout build is gonna be sick 👊
I’m thinking the same wheels on the scout. What type of wheels did you get? There are quite a few variations.
@austin not sure if you are asking me or Rigo but I went with Hope Fortus 35 rear and Fortus 30 front with Hope Pro 4 hubs.
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me where can i find the rare thru axle?? Mine is broken
The axle came with the forks but you should be able to get them seperate. If not then normal thru axle will work.
Absolutely sweet build! I just bought Nukeproof scout 290. Wondering what you ending up running for headset spacers and fork offset with 150mm fork. Im about to order my fork just kinda wondering on some of those details.
Sorry just seen this dude.
The fork part number is 24-19550 and spacers I used 15mm under stem and 10mm on top in case I needed to make any further adjustments but seems pretty cool so far.
@@SEKTAMTB
so it is a 150mm fork ?
@@Simon-Simon-Simon yep 150mm Fox 36 performance Elite.
@@SEKTAMTB
Sweet I am building same tho lyriks 150mm then in the future if want can use on a enduro duely increase travel of the forks
Nice build, how much clearance do you have between the crank arm and the chainstay on the drive side? Ive heard of people having hardly any clearance with the deore cranks and some actually rubbing rubbing the frame.
If you look it up it actually calls for a 2 mm spacer on the driveside for a 73 MM BB. That might be why..
so jelous!! xD good for you man, how does it feel after this time?
So good dude. Pretty aggressive for a hardtail. Love it 👊
Awesome dude, gonna buy a new HT next season and leaning on a nukeproof 😎😁
S W E E T
Nice I have the same bike as you, I’ve had a clicking sound every time I pedal not too sure what it is ?
Could be numerous things. Start with the obvious and remove and regrease pedals and make sure cranks are tight. Check no cables are catching anywhere or rubbing on tyres. How old is the bottom bracket as could need replacing? Sometimes it can even be saddle or seatpost so worth checking those are tight too.
Maaaaaaaaaaate it looks stunning 🤩
May I ask a personal question on roughly how much the build was?
I moving from road cycling /triathlon/running and really set my heart on a nuke proof scout but seeing your build gives me ideas 😍😃
Ha ha it intended to be a budget build but soon got out of hand. All depends what parts you can get at the minute tbf. All in it cost me about £150 (just in case my girlfriend reads this 🤣)
@@SEKTAMTB ha ha I know what you mean! Been pricing up what I could see on your amazing bike 🤟
Appreciate it mate 🙌
I would die if I would have to use my left hand to use the rear break and vice versa. :D
Ha ha yeah it's weird what we get used to in different countries.
@@SEKTAMTB I am thinking about getting the V4, do you have to stick to the left hand / rear break set up or can you switch it?
@Dan Valicek I'm sure you should be able to buy them the other way too as they come fitted to the calipers. The levers are just the levers so worst case you'd be able to disconnect and reconnect at the lever end for the opposite way around.
@@SEKTAMTB yeah, in theory this should be possible, doesn't sound like a big deal, but, and there is the "but"; I quote, "Single side specific, not switchable", and this is what makes me think.
Ciao...👍🤟🇮🇹
I just pulled the trigger on this frame last night. What travel did you go with?
I've gone with Fox 36 Performance Elite 150mm boost 👊
I know some guys have gone up to 170mm though.
Appreciate the vide man, thanks for sharing. Are you using 170mm for the dropper?
Yes mate 170mm on the Medium frame is spot on 👌
@@SEKTAMTB it's my first time to use a dropper and I'm 5'7. Should I go for 170mm on my scout 275 medium? I'm learning AM but would like to explore towards enduro riding.
You should be fine with the 170mm but just check the internal measurements of the seat tube and which brand dropper you go for as they can differ in internal length. Mine is the Scout 290 and I'm 5'8 and the Brand X was perfect.
@@SEKTAMTB Nukeproof Scout medium has 150mm on their website. I'm planning to get oneup dropper. Torn if I should get 150 or 170
Thanks for the video. I'm wanting to do a similar set up. Questions: What is your height? Frame size? Dropper-post length? Thanks a lot!
Hi Ariel
I'm 5 8" and went medium frame with 170mm dropper and it's spot on. 👌
@@SEKTAMTB nice build man!!! Im the same height. Looking at this in meduim 2022 and ragley marley, and the chromag rootdown need a capable ht that I can climb and bomb with and hit the parks ect. Any opinions? Prolly 130-140mm fork. 27.5.
I love the scout that much I've just built up a new V3 in yellow (edit on my channel) It's an absolute weapon mate from bike parks to XC loops and anything in between it laps up the trails with ease.
@@SEKTAMTB yeah I kinda figured ;) thanks! Just hard to decide because I'm going all out on whatever frame I end up with. Prolly ohlins or dvo up front I'm thinking.
@@SEKTAMTB only bad I've heard about the 2022 is the bb is low.
Is the thread ok on bottom bracket?
Not sure what you mean buddy but yep BB just screws in.
So dude, I got this frame last week. My problem is I need advice about the fork. I'm 20+ stones, 6'3" & we'll you see where this is going. Because of my weight can I safely use a 160mm travel fox 38? I'm new to this hence seeking advice.
Yeah your weight or height won't make a difference buddy as you'll just set up the sag based on your weight. Start with 25%-30% sag and see how it feels. You can always add or release more pressure depending on your riding style and terrain and how the bike feels.
👊😎🤘
@@SEKTAMTB thanks, so it's safe to go with the fox 38 160mm! It won't damage the frame! I'm not concerned about any warranty either.
How much travel did you go with on your fork?
I've gone 150mm bud and so far seems spot on 👌
@@SEKTAMTB Nice, i m thinking of building one up and have a 160mm, it seems like anything between 140mm-170mm works well, thanks for the reply!
Your back tyre is in wrong side???😄
Actually it's not. Some of the pros run DHF on the rear on reverse tread through Winter and I thought they must be bonkers so unless I'd tried it I'd never know. So far tbf not really noticed any difference.
@@SEKTAMTB So, you did it on purpose… Nice build by the way!!!! If I make a similar build in the same frame on Extra Large what wheels do you think I need? Because I am a tall and heavy rider 98kg. Maybe I pick enduro heavier rims or not ???🧐
Surprisingly no grease was used throughout the whole build 🥲
Sorry mate I didn't think anyone would be interested in watching me dip my fingers in grease but rest assured everything was fully greased. I can send you the footage for your private collection if you want 🤣
@@SEKTAMTB it’s okay lol happy riding 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Ihope it wont seize
