z heitzer Any time I struggle with timing on a song the biggest thing that helps me (believe it or not) is to STOP counting. Sounds kinda whacky but really it helps a lot to stop counting, listen to the song and just kind of feel it out. The more I do that then it just becomes second nature and I don’t have to think about the timing. I would compare it to like when you hear a song on the radio over and over again and you’re not trying to learn the words but eventually you just know them cause you’ve heard it so many times, I just applied that same sorta methodology to learning licks with weird timing
Yeah, I also think maybe hitting the 9-7-10 part fresh. I struggled with this too, my hands were in auto pilot kinda with the 10-9-12 bit. Try practicing the other part on it's own.
From seeing your Hysteria cover and this, it's cool you're playing songs in your own style, something I think is important. Your playing is clean, clear and consistent enough which is all I think that matters.
Killer cover! Digging the finger style on this song. I often do the opposite (ever heard “Rio” by Duran Duran played with a pick?), so that’s great to see!
Yeah I actually started to feel the same. I use DR hi beams on my main bass now and I love them but I don’t use the bass in this video very often anymore so I haven’t bothered switching them out haha
I always wonder how you cover songs i wanted you to cover. You are not a mind reader, are you? Ha-ha i love your makeup just asmuch as your bass skills 😘❤

SteelDialga I did like two or three lessons, didn’t really gel with my teacher, and never went back. UA-cam and my peers became my teachers, being the worst one in the room helped me learn quickly - I was hungry to learn and in a scene surrounded by musicians better than me that were influencing and inspiring me every day. I got really lucky
@@AushaMusic oh wow, that's awesome! It seems like a lot of really good bassists don't take lessons and learn from the Internet instead. Rn my source of learning comes from my guitarist friend who's also a killer bassist, so it makes me wonder if I really need lessons or not. I guess I'll see as time goes on
Anything is a good thing if you’re getting some amount of take-away from it! If you feel like you’re learning from lessons, definitely stick with it! But UA-cam is a great place to expand your learning past lessons. Find different songs or techniques or modes you want to explore, learn them outside of your lessons, once you meet back with your teacher, show them what you’ve been doing and they’ll be a fresh set of ears and a great resource to show you how to apply the things you’ve taught yourself in a way you might’ve not thought of before!

Hahaha honestly
I really enjoy your playing! Any band would be lucky to have you as their bassist!
Omg what a complement! Thank you so much for the support!
Literally perfect. Teaching myself how to play bass and Schism is always something I've wanted to learn
Well done here, I'm a big Tool fan and so far this is one of the best cover bass line of Schism in the whole community. Great job!
I take this as SUCH a complement. Thank you so much
My brain. Stuggled. So much. With this song. 11/10 cover. Killing it.
I love this! I can never get the timing right for the 9-7-10 part of the main riff. Great cover as always

Late reply, probably, but you can tap with your foot on every eight-note instead of on every quarter-note.
I never count for Tool. It's pointless. Just gotta feel it.
