    I use a Motocraft filter for my 2.3. the 2.3 takes the cartridge type filter. I usually use Valvoline 5W30 high mileage. Once I hit 200,000 miles I'm going to 10W40 and I'm going to use full synthetic. Probably Valvoline or Mobil 1 extended performance. I've heard a lot of good things about it.

      @@bricegraham8256 30$CAD at Walmart for 5L on sale seems like a decent price. The Extended Performance High Mileage can be found for 38$ on sale at Canadian Tire.

      @@cnimi Thanks for the information. They're at similar prices in America. However I don't know the prices gap between USD and CAD. I switched to Extended performance kinda early though cause last time I was at Walmart that's all they had on hand. It's funny cause I work for a parts store but even with my discount buying from Walmart is so much cheaper then buying from the parts store with my discount. The amount I'd spend at Walmart on my oil and my aunts is close the how much I'd be spending on my oil alone at the parts store

    Your 240,000 km is almost exactly 150,000 miles, which is roughly middle aged for a reliable Japanese car.
    I read up on cleaning the MAF, and apparently there's more than one thing to clean on it, which I didn't know the last time I cleaned one years ago. I don't remember exactly the places to clean, but whatever I did, the gas mileage went up somewhat - maybe 2 mpg.
    Then I had someone replace the PCV valve, because it probably had never been done after 70,000 miles (I bought it at about 65,000 miles.) BEWARE - it's a very difficult job, and costs hundreds of dollars if you have someone do it. You need to remove the intake manifold to access the PCV valve. Absurd, but there you are.
    I don't know which Mazda 3 engines have a problem replacement of the PCV valve. Mine is the 2.3L engine.

    • @ColtonRichter
      @ColtonRichter  2 роки тому

      The 2.3's are the ones notorious for needing the PCV system all replaced

    • @MorrisDugan
      @MorrisDugan 2 роки тому

      @@ColtonRichter How much stuff are we talking about? Should I have had it all replaced when they had pulled out the intake manifold?
      Is that what car engineering is about - figure out a way for a system that's been in cars for about 60 years to stop being reliable?
      I would have thought that instead they could have integrated it more with the rest of the computerized exhaust pollution reduction system, reducing the number of gadgets in inaccessible places.
