Do you run the benchmarks when temps are at steady state? The numbers mean nothing if it thermal throttles after the fact.
The 7i is currently on sale on their website for just over 1700. Will probably be gone in 24 hours, but it goes down again like every two weeks not including holiday sales. Unfortunately it's not the white version.
If you sign up for business (don't need to have a business), you can get another 100 or another 7% military discount. They usually stack, at least they did with previous purchases of mine.
I have the Legion 5 from 2021 in Stingray White and can confirm Lenovo makes some really good White Legions.
I agree with you - thinner laptops with RTX 4070 and lower GPUs would be better served by being paired with a Core Ultra CPU instead of the power hungry and hot running HX line.
I feel as though when we get a Legion with a Core Ultra next year, the performance of this one will still out do the new one, and since alot of people use it plugged in all the time, they would still be picking up this version as the last to have a HX line intel CPU
@@JT11111 if they want to plug in all time the 5 pro is already there
@@mcslender2965 5 pro is far less portable, you seem to be unaware that people take laptops to school/university/work, which often times comes with many other things in their bag than just a laptop, so the slimness of Legion 7i with how competitive the performance is to full size 16” gaming laptops makes it the choice for people, for example: I returned my Legion 7i because Ive been getting black screen issues, I am seriously considering yoga 9i because I THOUGHT it would give me way better battery power and similar gaming performance, but after this video I am considering rebuying the Legion, as I don’t think the new Ultra cores will be optimised enough by the next 2/3 years to completely make the HX series useless
@@mcslender2965 No idea why my initial response is deleted but what I said what you seem to underestimate the amount of people who pack their laptop to go to school/uni/work and pack stuff like lunch boxes, papers, books etc in the same bag, Legion 5 and Legion 7 pro are beefy and Legion 7i is slightly less beefier, for instance I returned my Legion 7i as I was getting black screen issues and thought of buying yoga 9i, but after this review I am considering rebuying the Legion as the Yoga is not giving the great battery returns I expected for the far less gaming performance, its just how it is.

was waiting for the 2024 review. Great to see
fantastic as always! I really enjoy every piece of your content.

Hi Josh, thanks for the video, so great! one question, when you say 'gaming on the side' in reference to the Yoga Pro 9i, how many hours you mean or at what intensity? I will usually game 2 hours or so after work or a few more on weekends. Thanks!
Thanks for the review Josh. That 7i is a really attractive laptop.
Fyi: With the newest BIOS, the fan noise of the G16 with Vapor Chamber has been reduced
Thank you. We will try it a 4th time :( . But the high-pitched fan noise of the g14 and g16 is due to the airflow design. So I doubt that will change
@@JustJoshTech i saw sooo many people and reviewers say that you can fix fan noise by uninstalling armoury crate and installing G Helper
I am very intrested in buying a G16 so I would appreciate it alot if it can be tried
Wish my gen 8 legion 7i would get this lol. The fan has a higher pitched sound when maxed out.
I have a g16 with a 4070 and with the new bios, uninstalling armoury crate and tweaking with g-helper it's dead silent for normal tasks and gives me almost 10hrs of battery for normal college use and it doesn't get abnormally loud when gaming. Highly recommend!!!!!
@@juancardona2213mind sharing the settings you've changed?

great review, i noticed you haven't put the link to your website in the description and you usually do

@JustJoshTech 2:37 Do Nvidia Still Limit Power in Gaming ? as I seen from @Jarrod'sTech Videos it seems like from 4050 to 4070 nvidia powerlock laptops for gaming so anything lower than 4080 not actually reaching to the promised power limit unless outside gaming as far as I know is this still a thing or nvidia fixed it ???
very very informative ❤
Thank You
Lovely review as always
Do you plan on reviewing the Zenbook Duo 2024? Is it a good computer for programming?
FINALLY! Thank you Josh, you are a legend!
Hey Josh, do you know why the yoga pro 9i is so bad on battery life at 5:09
lenovo has done well with their cooling, allowing for higher wattabe gpus.. i have the legion 9 from last yeaar and can tel that even the fans/blowers are of higher quality
Is it more warm to the touch then razer blade 16
i just bought the legion 7i with 4070 and i9 14th gen and the warm feeling doesnt feel bad at all and its really only warm when your playing games. Also I use an external keyboard and mouse so I dont feel the heat and I never really hear the fans. Also the weight for me isnt an issue since I can carry it easily. The screen is a huge upgrade from using a 60HZ 1080P monitor.
I'm very glad!!!
I picked up the black version of that 7i with a 4060 and 14900HX on day one and have been using it for two months now, but there was no white available at the time in my country (Japan). I honestly love this computer. It does feel warm when gaming and in performance mode, but considering that I only use an ergonomic keyboard on my desk it's not a big deal.
The battery is better than my old computer, but I can never seem to optimize it enough to reach what other UA-camrs have achieved for battery life.
Still, I'm super happy with this computer, and hole it holds up for five or more years.
Do you make long gaming sessions I'm not currently at my home so I need a computer to work and and game at the same time
@@bryce2fadeway I don't game on the battery, since it would drain the battery very quickly.
Hi Josh! Do you plan to make a review of the new MSI stealth 16 ai studio A1V soon? Like many people, I'm considering this option as an alternative to the new Asus G16 due to its fan noise and there are currently no solid reviews thereof so it would be really helpful :)
Oh we don't have that one yet. I'll enquire about it
hi Josh. I just bought the Yoga Pro 9i with the MiniLED panel but it looks like an IPS panel in SDR mode with backlight bleed. its only in HDR mode that it does look like a MiniLED panel. is that normal?
I don't mind heat and fan noise as long as it's not harmful for the lifespan of the laptop. But I haven't had one, so amma ask if it is.
I just order the legion 7i today in white with 4070 32gigs, really liked yoga pro 9i but sadly it’s not yet launched here in India.
buddy is the white colour available in offline stores in India?
@@yashj8238 no white Color is only available in customised laptops. And the waiting period is 14-20days to ship from China.
I wonder if there is comparision btw the Legion 7i and the new Zephyrus G16 models.
I would liked to ask that what would you recommend Asus G14 (2024), Razer Blade (2024), Legion 7, Legion 9i due I am a student and also game playing Mircosoft flight simulator and Fortnite
Noticed something a bit off at 5:09 for the Cinebench 30 minute run test. It shows the Yoga Pro 9i (Ultra 9 185H) is only left with 11% left after the test but in your other video on the laptop in Feb 2024 it shows 57%. Are these numbers from the same model? I am very interested in what Lenovo is doing with their 16in laptops recently (also a P1 Gen 7 model coming up) and am aware the Yoga lineup is kind of a mess. Otherwise great video!
Yes, someone else reported this. We will re test. Please note this I'd the 4060 version of the Yoga Pro 9i. So it I'd a different unit. But it shouldn't be this bad. We will add a comment
Thank you Josh! I was waiting for this review on Legion 7i for weeks. I'm just wondering if it is difficult to keep the Glacier white clean and away from stains?
Its white so it does pick up stains, especially the rubber part at the bottom of laptop, I bought the Black one before I returned it as it was faulty, and it was also gorgeous, it was a fingerprint magnet, but had a timeless minimalist metal black look that was just gorgeous to use, so I would say black is better if you want to keep it for the next 4/5 years
will there be a legion pro 7 gen 9 with AMD?
How's the palm rest area temperature while load bro?
How does lenovo 7i compare to macbook m3? You mentioned it briefly but would be interested in more detail.
Thanks
I have a question have u seen asus creator q540 before? I was wondering why is there BARELY any reviews for it online, please help. It looks like a good laptop but im confused!
Please can you make a comparison review between the Lenovo legion 7 gen9 and the Asus Zephyrus g16 2024🙏🙏
The legion 7i vs alienware m16 r2, which one do you recommend? Please
How does the Lenovo legion 7i 2024 compare to the Acer predator helios neo 16 2024?
Hi Josh. Why there are so few reviews of XMG laptops? Are they bad? It looks like they have good spec for the buck but I dont know where is the catch
Good review 👍
Thanks Jeff!
Can you review the new MSI Stealth 16?
I appreciate the comparison with Yoga Pro 9i. How do they compare in terms of speakers and build quality?
Speaker and build quality (e.g. touchpad, screen contrast, ir-webcam) is better on the yoga
Is it possible t lower the cpu wattage?
Hi Josh, did we find out if the black screen issue is fixed? since I returned it, I want to know if I can have peace of mind rebuying a Lenovo Legion Laptop
Ah... this seems to be an NVidia issue, and no it is not fixed. We have seen it on SO many laptops right now. They really stuffed up the latest drivers. I will say this, it hasn't happened to me on the Legioin 7 for a long time. I played games on it yesterday and the day before. No black screen
love the design they did, but probably gonna wait for ultra 9 series instead. hopefully it will has lower fan noise and surface heat
Hi, What is the best RTX 4060 and i7 laptop currently? Is it the Legion 5i Pro?
legion 7, but with AMD.... the moment this arrives, im gonna become a very poor man
If you set your settings to Optimus in Control Panel, it’s not Advanced Optimus. You need to leave it on automatic to have the best performance (dGPU only if needed with direct passthrough and iGPU when not). I hope you didn’t do that? It’s very misleading from NVIDIA though.
Based on your video you seem to have understood Advanced Optimus wrong?
pls help choosing between this one and Dream Machines RG4070-17NA41. Price is $150 lower
Yeah, I think I'll be getting the Legion 7i soon instead of the Yoga Pro 9i since, based on the Lenovo website, it's much cheaper for me to get it. If there'll be an AMD version, though, hopefully it gets released before I buy.
😁 Feels like a breath of fresh air for you compared to other 16inch Windows laptops you've received recently 😂😅. Great review though, Thanks Josh 👍🏾
thanks
Any thoughts on the new Legion Slim 5? Looking for something that is good for working on the road in hotels/remote offices but can still play some games on it in the evening. Or any other products to look in to for that purpose?
I like the 14inch Slim 5. the 16 inch is a bit of a meh laptop. It is a big step down from the Legion 7, and doesn't bring much to the table other than the price drop. The 14 inch is more special though. It's more portable and has a big 14.5 inch screen. Hope that helps. Try to buy via our website as it helps support the channel. If you can
@@JustJoshTech thanks for the reply! I’ll take a look at that one. I’m in Canada so not sure I’ll be able to offer your site but I’ll take a look around.
Every year I look at the slim version of Legion 7 and wish it had no numpad, so that the keyboard and trackpad were centered.
Honestly, I feel the pro 7, though a step up from the regular is just isn't worth it for what it offers. Lenovo tends to put their products on sale and it'd be nice to get the legion 7 for 1600 or so, so that's my pick
The Pros are among the best value if you need an RTX 4080 and above though
@@mcslender2965 Agreed. I still haven't seen a 4080 laptop on sale for less than I paid for my legion 7i pro. Not even close.
@@mcslender2965 But you lose the fingerprint sensor among other nice features.
@@mcslender2965I know but portability is a thing for me so that's why I'm very hesitant. I don't see myself going on a coffee with my lesion 7 Pro...
Is this good for students? Like how much does the battery pack last without intensive use. (JUST MSO and browsing)
This is rough for students re battery. It's a good laptop but you may want to choose something else
Would like to see this compared head to head with the Razer Blade 16.
is it worth it to wait for the AMD version ? or get the intel version ? ( 7i Not the Pro version )
is there gonna be AMD version? if it is, i will wait for that instead
5:08 was the pro 9i really at 11% after the 30 minute run of cinebench? I thought the core ultra was meant to be more efficient...
It's not just the CPU, it's also how the mobo + laptop is designed and configured. Sometimes the design is really bad, making a model worse in performance, higher power and battery drain and at higher temperatures, all at the same time.
Still 11% is exceptionally bad.
That's a good point. We will retest that. I would have expected longer. We like the Yoga Pro alot. So if it's different I'll put the change in a comment and update future graphs
Fr that graph made me doubt buying the yoga pro 9i and thought about getting the legion 7i instead
@jeus_saaa Apologies. We did actually re test alot of weird results we saw in this graph set btw. We just missed that one
@@JustJoshTech no worries. would it be okay for you to also include an m3 pro in the graphs in the future? I'm really having a hard time choosing between a core ultra powered laptop like the yoga pro 9i and an m3 pro mbp since they're not that far apart in terms of pricing. but really i'm so glad i found you guys as i'm currently on the hunt for a new laptop.
Got the 2024 Lenovo Legion 7i recently. For me, the display is lacking in brightness, speaker is terrible and keyboard deck feels hot. You feel the most heat around where WiFi card sits. Returned it and got M3 MacBook Pro.
I'm planning to buy the Base M3 Pro MacBook Pro this week. Is it still a good option? I'm just bit confused because now we already have M4 chips, so they might drop the new MacBook Pros in the near future. Any Suggestions?
M4 MacBook Pro won’t be available till end of 2024 or early 2025.
I would really recommend 32gb ram if your doing any professional or heavy ram dependent workload.
Just buy m3. m4 won’t be a big enough upgrade anyways and it’s gonna come out later in the later or early next year
@@dominicjrf Thanks. This is the first Apple product I'm buying, so just wanted to be sure. The weird cycle that they have for the last couple of years (regarding Macs getting any new chip in general) was bit confusing to me. I was almost overthinking to the stage of... no matter what I purchase, something will come out shortly afterwards and might get the feeling of being cheated as a customer. So yeah.. just wanted to be sure.

I’m stuck between the legion 7i (glacier white) vs hp transend 14(white)is the two I can’t decide on. I want to game and do school work on them with good battery to stream and browse. Which one is better in yall opinion?
Lol i'm on the Transscend right now. I'd get the Transcend for school over the Legion 7i. It's far more portable. Clearly your gaming will be worse off, but i'd personally take that trade off
@@JustJoshTech Lol awesome! Thank you Josh! your the man!!!
I want to ask you that is buying a thinkpad nano intel gen 11 in 2024 worth it. I am a data analysist
I just bought a Legion 7i Gen 9. So far it's been just ok. My main issues are it's heavy and run time on battery is very short. I have to plug in the charger after an 1.5 hours of use. My HP Spectre x360 has 3x battery life.
Which spectre do you have?
@@JustJoshTech A 2019 with 15" display, i7, and 1050 GPU. Runs hot as hell when playing games but ok otherwise. I get about 3 hours when gaming, 5 when doing CAD work, and about 7 hours when surfing the web and UA-cam. Still on the original factory battery. Lighter than my Legion even though it also has an all metal chassis. I would have gotten a new current Spectre but HP doesn't offer it with a gaming GPU plus it's lacking in the USB ports.
@@Waltkat Oh wow that's a very old laptop
@@JustJoshTech Eh, prior to the Legion, it was my newest laptop. I still have a few of my laptops dating back to the late 80's. The oldest one is running either a 286 or 386. I don't remember. But then, there's a lot I don't remember. Lol. Anyway, I still like my Spectre and will continue using it. Will need to upgrade the M.2 to a 2TB though. Original drive is getting full.
Vivobook 14 review?
Would you say the Asus G14 is better than the Legion 7i, other than the screen size preferences?

Hi there, I think I am torn between the Legion 7i and the Yoga Pro 9i. In the Yoga Pro video you had 57% after Cinebench 30 min run, but in this video it lists 11%? Do you know why the discrepancy?
I'd like a laptop that can play games, but 120 FPS is more than enough. Battery life and portability are paramount, and the Legion 7i has the bigger battery but less efficiency. Though I love the look of the white Legion 7i. And speaker quality is surprisingly important for my workstation background music, though I'll be coming from a 2018 Alienware 15 R3 so it'll be an up grade either way.
Yes. This model is the retail one with rtx 4060. The other was an early stage sample with RTX 4070. We re ran that test and got 28%, btw. I have another video coming out next week with it btw. So maybe wait for that video
@@JustJoshTech ah I see. For my use case do you think legion 7i, voga pro 9i or zephyrus g16?
Not gaming on battery but doing other work tasks for sure.
@@english724 I bought the Legion 7i before I returned it as i kept getting black screen issues (apparently its an Nvidia issue) its very good for games that I ran: Rocket League and COD, I thought because I run both on lowest possible settings so I can get higher fps a yoga 9i would be better as the battery life is better, but after seeing so many reviews, the battery is not that much better compared to performance drop off, I think I'll be rebuying the Legion 7i, or maybe wait for the AMD version of Legion 7 if you want better battery life (I would need intel because it gets better performance in 3D softwares)
@@JT11111 That's fair. I went to see them in person and the screen on the Yoga (and the G16 to a lesser extent) is ohh so nice though lol. The matte on the Legion just isn't doing it for me.
@@english724 yh the screen on legion is very average from my experience, and I can only imagine how nice yoga 9 is, but as Im looking to use this for the next 5 years, if yoga doesn’t give great compensation between performance and battery life then theres no point not getting the legion
as a full stack web dev, the website update got me the most excited! Great video as usual! I have a question regarding the Legion Slim 7 AMD from 2023. I ordered it as it was on sale for 1500€ including 21% VAT. 16GB upgradable RAM, 7840HS, RTX 4060, 3200 x 2000 IPS 165Hz display. Is this laptop decent for someone who won't do hardcore gaming, more productivity and light gaming on the side?
The laptop you have ordered is fantastic for that. It would have been my number 1 pick 6 months ago. Yoga Pro 9i 16 is my number 1 pick in 2024. That being said, i'm guessing the Legion Slim 7 2023 is much cheaper.
@@JustJoshTech it definitely is, by about 500-600 euros.

Did you ever have the black screen that the computer and the computer becomes unresponsive? I finally finished installing everything and I could not play any games nor could I put the computer in sleep mode. Disabled hybrid mode and now I can launch games (so far) but hibernate is still a no go. Having to force restart a computer that is 4 days old (happening since day 1) is such a bummer. Legion 7i 2024, 240hz ge force 4070.
Yes, this is a well-known Nvidia driver issue that is rampant on laptops right now. Try disabling the MUX switch so you use the Intel graphics via Optimus. That may help. Otherwise see if there are older drivers available to go back to. Please note many laptops from a vatiety of brands right now have this
@@JustJoshTech oh that's good to know! Maybe I will hold off on buying one then. Just wanted one before my current one died (it's on its way out).
I returned my Legion 7i last month as on the 25th day I faced this issue, only fix was to launch apps or games without it being connected to charger, was hoping its been addressed by now and its worrying that NVidia hasnt fixed this yet
HOW MUCH?! I can afford one, but won't
legion 7 would be nice with either core ultra CPU or AMD CPU
I was hoping, almost praying, that these laptops would come with AMD CPUs or Core Ultras, just so i could get some decent battery life for my next laptop. But here we are, such a shame.

Legion gang
Cool Laptop. The Legion 7i gen 7 is still better option than these newer generation laptops. The gen8/gen9 is dodgy in my opinion since Lenovo went on their way to downgrade it so as to release the legion 9i which in my opinion is just an expensive and unreliable version of the 7i. I hate the legion 9i for ruining the legion series, they could just stick with their older lineup version BUT NOO “let’s change the legion 7i into a flashier ‘razor overpriced’ but way more reliable” I swear when the release of the legion pro 7i released, I was very disappointed and didn’t want to even look at the laptop BUT when the legion 9i got released, I think I see the pro 7i laptop very differently.
Legion Pro 5i or Legion 7i whch is better?
I would personally get the Legion 7i. We have a Pro 5i here btw. Please use our links if you can, it helps support the channel
@@JustJoshTech7i is great for sure but what about perf? 7i cpu wattage does not run as high as 5i pro. Does this make a difference in performance?
I feel like with your attention to detail, if there were inconsistencies between the tactility or feeling of the keys, you would mention it. So when you say it's a good keyboard, I believe the keys are consistent between one another. But there are quite a few Windows laptops where there are inconsistencies between key to key, maybe due to hollow space in certain areas under the keyboard? Anyway, if this is something you usually don't test, it would be great (lol not to add something ELSE to condense into a video that you want not to exceed 12 minutes) to have that info. I know Alex from Short Circuit (LTT/LMG) tests and mentions this, but those videos in fairness are a little different since they are first impressions and not in depth reviews like these videos are (though they do show some LTT labs results; it's just that Alex, the 'reviewer,' is not spending as much time as you, Josh, are spending with the device prior to making the video).
You are spot on:
a) We are actually trying to keep the videos easier to watch by only bringing to your attention what you really need to know about. At least what we believe is important.
b) We are unique in our testing approach. We use the laptops. For example the script for the review is normally written on the laptop itself. I would have picked up if key presses felt inconsistent. In fact most gaming laptops we edit videos on as well as play several hours worth of games on.
In the future, what we are trying to do is add all test results to the wesbite so that you can double click in and see things like... Are there inconsistencies between key to key press, or does the key press go below the keyboard deck etc.
I will probably try the Legion 7i tomorrow just in case, but as I recall I didn't notice inconsistencies. If I do notice some on further use, i'll reply again here.
@@JustJoshTech You are awesome, Josh. I appreciate the informative, thoughtful response. Have a great night man.
I know it's priced pretty well, but still, having a usb c port with usb 3.2 gen 1 speed is a shame. Most premium-'ish' gaming/creator laptops even have 3.2 gen 2 speeds on their usb a ports, so having such a slow usb c port on this type of device is not great, to put it mildly.
I'd be honest, I just can't handle the touch pad on the left as a right handed person.
So many people have said that. It's weird as It doesn't bother me. But I understand
1 min ago is crazy
why is it crazy
1) I'm curious to see how these laptops will fare when Lenovo will use AMD chips. 2) Josh really likes the Legion laptops, there's a certain bias there. It's OK, though, we all have one. 😊
I am really curious about the design meetings made in Lenovo. How come they come up with with that much wrong decision? There is no USB connection in backside, also Thinkbook had this bad design choice. If you want to use the device in desktop mode, you have to plug power and HDMI backside, USB to left/right. Why not just placing a thunderbolt to backside with power input so that you just connect them?
Nearly all Lenovo's 16" laptops have numpad which I hate. Just only that is enough for me to not buy Lenovo laptops. I bought Z16 which had unnecessaryly high DPI OLED. Which is power hungry, and which causes scaling problems with external monitors. You have to restart programs to solve. Than they added touch feature to this OLED, which creates dot patterns on screen. If you look at the screen closer than 50cm, you'll see thin lines. Also renders OLED worse than TFT, after 10 years for the first time I've machine that it shifts color with respect to angle you look at.. Why do you ruin an OLED panel with a touch panel that is never used?
Adding page up/down keys around arrow keys etc.. Really? Etc etc.. How come a company designs that much bad product? Fan noise on idle? WHYYYY?
I am using PC laptops but with disgust. I wish I didn't have to use Windows..
Imagine shipping a laptop without an option for OLED in 2024. No oled no buy
Wow. You are aware that most OLED laptops in 2024 have a very bad screen door effect right?
You lost me at IPS display, seriously in 2024?
Slim 7 from the last year is just better overall. Why would they waste improved thermals on hotter CPU instead of GPU is beyond me
