I hiked down the Smith river 35 years ago , swimming to cross often with my best friend and our dogs for a week , was the best adventure ! Couldn't do that in these conditions , Thank You for the video trip , T.H.
Thank you for taking all of the time to make such a wonderful video. Those of us that live in the area and work in the area can really appreciate what we are seeing. This has been a very serious storm and you have captured it to date. Great job.
I have not seen the Smith that high in many years and it is good to finally get some decent rain and much needed snow pack in the mountains for next Fire Season. Stay Dry and Thanks for sharing Mike
Thanks Mike i sure appreciate your videos. I grew up their and im a Tolowa Deeni Nation member. I now live in the Phillipines but still have siblings and family who still live on the Rez.
This sure beats a drought! Awesome job Mike. Love the camera thru sunroof trick. Thete are some happy Chinook etc in our rivers if we would just cherish them more.
Watching as I'm listening to it with my Bose headphones. The sound of the river is pretty wild and the music is like a concert in my head. Awesomeness. I rate this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🎧
Try the Colombia river during the snow runoff. I literally couldn't hear someone talking right next to me. I've never heard anything like it other than drag races and rocket launches. The sheer volume and power is astounding.
Thanks Mike - I used to live in Brookings and I'm familiar with all this real estate - floated the stretch below Gasquet one time. Extra interesting for me!!
I live off of so bank. The river was on the road at the cement plant and at the bridge construction. Highest I've seen it. One hell of a rapid under the bridge as well. So much water. Smith River farms were covered half way up from the river.
You went to all my childhood swim spot’s. And ended with Panther Flats. My Dad, brother and I camped there often. Great memories. So neat to see everything with the drone. Thank you!
Wow. Thanks so much Mike for taking the time to bring us this great video. Along with the music and all it seemed like a beautiful documentary. I especially liked where the river met the ocean. Looks like there's gonna be a lot of driftwood this summer. We usually try to get down to Ruby Van every year in August...wow we can't believe the waters up that high there. Best video yet id say. Keep up the good work. Your loyal followers ..Teresa and Steph
I woke up this morning just outside of Grants Pass wondering what the Smith River was doing and your video popped up wonderful filming blessings to you and yours and have a Happy New Year
Mother Nature is amazing! Thank you for the video, such soothing sounds, guessing worrisome if you live in the area. Again, thank you for posting this video.
Hey there Gasquet-Mike, Dam I just stumbled on to your site, what a find....... as I used to live in Gasquet, and that was 1958, we actually lived up on Pappas-Flat, and I caught the School Bus, ie....56-Dodge Station Wagon into a Little 1-Room School House in Gasquet, I'm thinking it was Red in Color, probably not there any more, anyway my Dad was Logging for Double "J" Timber and Equip. Co. out of Arcata, my Grandmother was Born in Crescent City, Circa 1898 +/-, I was Born in Arcata 1950, ..... Ok, you take Care, BD in Alaska.....😎
Hey ! Dang theres another guy that I have talked with that went to the 1 room school house..Ill have to try and remember who it is.. Glad you found me!!! Happy New year! B.D.!

Absolutely fantastic!!! I love this video! The Smith river is so beautiful. Seeing the sign for Ruby's campground brought great memories, albeit, the river didn't look like that the two times I camped there, lol.
Wow. Thats crazy high water. I lived in Hiouchi in the 80s. You don’t forget the beautiful smith River and the view from hiouchi bridge. The bridge used to be a green truss bridge but I think it was replaced long ago.
Have lived in grants Pass and in Brookings, Oregon 22 years that was back in the 60s and 80s so… made many trips on 199, we also had some retail stores in Brookings and Crescent city … probably no more beautiful place on earth than the Pacific coast there thanks for sharing… currently in yerington Nevada
I live around the corner and through the woods, in Harbor! 🌊 I took my dog up to Sport Haven Beach and finally got some blue skies around 230pm yesterday! 🙌 There is so much driftwood, huge logs and golf balls too, washing ashore here! It's definitely a picker's paradise right now! Thank you for the beautiful footage!
Woo. . Remember when the river gently broke over 199 between Hiouchi and Gasquet in 1992 . . it was crazy. . followed by a massive land slide that prevented me from getting home for 3 days.
Close to flood stage. No swimming hole today. Stay safe Stoney. Leash only today. We got .4 here overnight. Be interesting to see the mouth. Oh cool. You got a break for the drone. WOW. impressive inflow. Thanks for getting this. Takes me back to my mad river days. Seeing the push me pull you with the tide. Crane sitting in the water?👋👱♀️🐈🐈🐈⬛🐾🐸
I used to watch the Kings Creek in Boulder Creek after a good rain. The banks never gave way under me thank you God! Really great capture! I got a Beginner drone from China. Nothin’ special to note but it does have “all things” to learn. You must have been “droning” awhile now. Great video. I stayed at Yamatri village 2 years ago, right before the fire. Beautiful area!
I rolled through there a few times in 87 through 97 looking for property and bigfoot. Found both. And i have pics of me on the rope swing under one of those bridges from 89. And a bit further off the highway we used to cliff jump i got a pic of me jumping from 40 ft. My cousin dove from above me at about 60 on video. Hes not alive now. Great place.
I spent a lot of time driving from Medford to the coast on this highway. Never saw it that high during my travels. It is a beautiful river and during the summer it was a good stopping point to take my lunch and dip my toes in the water.
I hiked down the Smith river 35 years ago , swimming to cross often with my best friend and our dogs for a week , was the best adventure ! Couldn't do that in these conditions , Thank You for the video trip , T.H.

Makes me feel like I'm a bird, flying over this majestic place 🤗🙌🏼🦅🥰😌
Thanks for the trip, Mike!
Wow. Just Wow. The smith river mouth, last time I was there, maybe 100 yards across to the sand. Now 3-400 yards across and all water! Wow.
The Applegate River a bit farther north in Southern Oregon is looking just about like that, too.
The Smith river is one of the hidden gems in the US. Just a beautiful river.
As always, thank you Mike! Fabulous winter footage. Happy New Year!

The rogue river is raging.
Wish I could have got up and looked at it!
Rope swing was under Second bridge
Rope swing was under Second bridge
Nice video; I sometimes dream of owning a home on the Smith river and doing some fly fishing. LA freeways are getting tiresome for me.
Go for it….don’t wait till you are too old.
Cool video thanks mike even if i drove around for a hr or 2 i wouldn't see it like this
I spent a lot of time driving from Medford to the coast on this highway. Never saw it that high during my travels. It is a beautiful river and during the summer it was a good stopping point to take my lunch and dip my toes in the water.
Jumping in the Smith revitalizes your soul!
Wish I was there, but thanks for being there and sharing!
Awesome video. Wow the river is high.
