Interesting idea,,,,. If he brings the 350 here he will only have 2 x 45 minute videos & be done!! 😂😂. There will be no trees left due to making rom for that beast, but,,,,, 😂😂.
The tannin levels in your pond from rotting leaves will be too high for most species add in that rotting leaves strip standing water of any oxygen and the chances of finding any fish very low, carp will tolerate very poor conditions but that poor ?????????????????
@@davidepool5884 Yes he will need to remove most of the nearby trees to prevent future problems certainly has the potential to be a nice little fishing hole. If it were mine I would stock with brown trout and fly fish it. I know most people like to bass fish but just too easy for my taste much rather have a bit of a challenge.
You said that this pond was built in the mid 1960s, I wonder what the technology of pond building will be like in the mid 2080s. Significantly different. Thank you Sir for this video of the farm.
Been waiting for this project Chris Even with the issues found your the man with the expertise to resolve it, Im assuming you also have a fair amount of geological knowledge as you understand the all the different soils and clays. Thanks for taking the time to do the videos for us id hate to think how much go go juice gets burnt while your out placing your cameras for our enjoyment keep up the awesome work Chris and thank you. great camera work today buddy.
I don't know what it is but I can you opening up dams all day long. Great multiple new camera angles! You should start another channel..."letsdigdowndams" I would watch it!!!
At last this part of the dream has begun. It will be a large undertaking bye the looks of it. Love that grey mud - reminds of my yabbying (crayfishing) days as a kid.
No better time than the present to start the next farm project. Looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with this pond. Take care, stay dry and God Bless!!!❤😊🙏
So grateful you been posting regularly. Had surgery a few days ago to remove cancer. Nothing more calming and soothing than to hear the whine of hydraulics . Thanks
Hope all is ok after the hurricane. Wasn't expecting anything cause I figured you're probably out helping people, cause that seems to be the guy you are. Didn't think you probably had "back up" content available to go at any time.
Letsdig18 your purchased equipment this Yanmar the Kubota skid steer D6 the haul truck the 220 and the 350 with the added accessories and even the older motor grader are all such good purchases and make these videos so cool to watch what these well engineered machines can do with a good operator
Idea from a non-expert (grew up building houses on a man-made pond, not building ponds): instead of removing the good dirt to then remove the 18ish inches of top soil then put the dirt back, have you considered building a new dam just outside the existing dam - clear the topsoil at the new dam location, transfer & compact the good clay soil from the existing to the new dam, then transfer the topsoil layer in the old dam to the back slope of the new dam, then continue transferring good clay soil from location of old dam to location of new & compacting & enlarging the pond slightly? maybe there's not enough clay to do the new dam outside the old & better to do new dam inside the old but still transferring & moving the majority of the soil once not twice?
Oh boy, that’s a project for the farm. I envision a good sized burn pile(s) and when you engage the pond that also means moving existing dirt aways to/from the new dam location, going to look sweet when you get it done though. Thanks for the update, looking forward to the build of the pond.
Epic Chris. Kind of figured that was the problem all along. On to project Longpond then. Thanks. I was mostly interested in what might be found in this pond. But if it was created in '60, not so much.
Chris...you should really start a small boutique sawmill, for as many trees as you remove. It would be a great retirement gig. Sitting around in your rocking chair, and off in your back 40, you have a small two story barn, with a blue neon sign, that tells the word what the name is. Heck, you could share crop. Build it, have someone else run it, and you split the profits for the next 20 years, then, you take it over.
21:16 Ok doing a ‚drone shot‘ with an excavator is really cool idea. I think you should try this with the 350 next time. You could then also turn the camera stubs so you can see the top of the cab and the whole machine spinning.
Great to see you made it through the hurricane in tact. You have been waiting for a few years now to work on this pond project. The 350 and everything else you have should make it interesting to watch.
The old pond is looking like one of those Christmas holiday projects. Oh, oh, oh!! You could get few You tubers together and do a collaboration set of videos on this pond rebuild.
the brown tint is from all the leaves. and its stays brown because there isnt enough oxygen in it to make it rot. nor have much water breathing life. thats why things such as frogs are in big numbers, nothing to eat them.
Getting back down into that white clay. I still suspect that's what they were mining out of there. A good vein of kaolin or other good china type clay was probably worth a little bit back in the day.
great video Chris. It’s good for someone like me, with no pond experience, to listen to your thought processes and how you intend going about the fix. 🇬🇧
Hi Chris very interesting what you pulled out of the dam so far I'm looking forward to the series on this one there's going to be some almighty fires hear, hope everything is ok for you and all of your family from the hurricane.
Great job 👍🏻 2:04 don’t fall down 4:38 love the green leaf in the dirt you squeezed with your hand 5:31 love how the tree fell down when you barely touched it 19:03 love the camera angle 20:27 love the camera angle and I didn’t know you fished I love to fish it’s my favorite thing to do been doing it since I was little 21:03 love how the stick rolled back in to the water 22:34 love how the chuck of dirt rolled back in to the pond
I am certain that the final shape and size of this pond will need to depend upon truth uncovered as you get deeper into it. I’m excited to go on this adventure with you.
20:59 When your doing the bucket cam I think it might be better to angle the camera further down. You could also put it a bit higher on the stick so it’s less of a pain to operate and it might even get a cooler shot.
If you made the pond bigger, you would only need to transfer the dirt once? To me, clearing all the trees seems a lot of work, close to the same as dirt work...
[24:02] To my recollection, it seems like no time ago when it was mulched all the way back. With the price of farmland, and with so many ponds on the farm, maybe it's time to fill this one back in, to make more field acreage.
From what looked like an OK pond on your property thats become on heck of a headache now. All those trees then all that material to get it to hold water. Good job you've got all the kit to do it or that would have been on heck of an expense to sort out.
Why not dig a core thru the center of the existing dam to seal it lenghwise instead of removing all of the dam material and replacing it after the layer of the leaking topsoil is removed. Not enough seal area with only a 5 foot core?
Dang it I wanted to see all that water moving down stream through the new pond and out that overflow onto the fence line. Had to be somewhat of a wave through the system.
Great camera location from about 13:00 to 15:00; could actually see the water level and then the breach…where will you divert the water to keep from having a swamp below this pond?
How many bucket loads of the mini will it take to fill up the bucket on the 350? 😂😂
Interesting idea,,,,. If he brings the 350 here he will only have 2 x 45 minute videos & be done!! 😂😂. There will be no trees left due to making rom for that beast, but,,,,, 😂😂.
Yay, I've been looking forward to this pond rebuild. Can't wait to see what the future pond looks like. Thanks, Chris.
Another interesting video Chris, hope you're all safe after the hurricane 🙏
Can’t wait to hear an update. Hope all is well
If he is east of Asheville they are fine.
Probably busy cleaning up the mess left behind.
According to Geoff (Bealy Good Farm) most of the storm and rain went Vest from their location, and they only got a couple of inches of rain, or so.
That's gonna be quite the project! Hope you all made through the hurricane okay
I remember you did a walk around that pond sometime last year .
Good for you Chris! Doing a job for yourself!
Old Time Dam deserves some "Old Time Equipment" like the dragline and cable shovel. Course progress might be a tad slower than you're used to.
you should count the rings when you remove the big trees
That doesn't work perfectly, as sometimes a tree can grow 2 rings
Nice jungle there! That Yanmar is a little beast.
I agree that's why if I buy a mini excavator it will be this one
The tannin levels in your pond from rotting leaves will be too high for most species add in that rotting leaves strip standing water of any oxygen and the chances of finding any fish very low, carp will tolerate very poor conditions but that poor ?????????????????
I agree, he should dredge all that rotten material while he’s at it. The way he works it will probably only take a couple of days or so.
@@davidepool5884 Yes he will need to remove most of the nearby trees to prevent future problems certainly has the potential to be a nice little fishing hole. Amazing camera work , thanks Chris
Taking her ALL the way down...yikes! Looking forward to following this one!
Obvious break between topsoil clay fill.
Oooooo, ... I think I saw NESSY! 😱😝🤪🤣👍👍🇺🇸
Chris... Some of the best camera placements I have seen in your videos. Well done!
Been waiting on this. This will be a great series of videos.
I always wonder where all that water flows.
Has any neighbor ever complained?

its a big job chris have fun whit it

I'll give you and DP credit. It's extremely rare to hear your equipment squeaking while operating. Good to keep busy huh👍🙂
Probably why the cobblers kid is barefoot. We just can’t get the equipment or time for our own cluster////////.
Judging by all the different camera angles, Chris might have had a bit of time on his hands while he was waiting for the pond to drain down
I like the relief valve sound the mini makes when it can't push any harder.....Naaaaachhhhhhkk.
Maybe install a dam core trench around the backside of the existing dam then just transfer the dam soil onto the new dam?
The Yanmar looks in good shape. Great job sir.
Your channel is an oasis for those who appreciate creativity and intellectual entertainment. Continue to delight us with your clever videos!🫶🥒🦩
Running water, with sound. Now I gotta pee.
Good morning my friend ❤😂😊💖💕🌟👋💞😘
Great stuff! Thanks Chris!!

Kind of looked like the amazon jungle back in there. Mosquitoes galore.
why not make a core trench , then transfer the whole dam 1 throw downhill with the 350 - make it bigger and add a backslope you can brush hog
Hi Chris very interesting what you pulled out of the dam so far I'm looking forward to the series on this one there's going to be some almighty fires hear, hope everything is ok for you and all of your family from the hurricane.
You are absolutely the smoothest operator I’ve ever seen. That’s going to look great when you get it all cleared of trees.

Please let everyone know how your community is doing after the hurricane!

Yep, looking good. It'd be interesting down the road got rid of a lot of water I guess. Is this before or after the storm?👍👍🙂🇨🇦
It’s fascinating to see all the different techniques you use on each different machine to remove trees or brush ?!?
Busting a pond with the yellow mini excavator was one of my favorite videos 😊
Hey Chris take it easy on this old man's bladder next time 😂😂 glad I had a Gatorade bottle handy
You don’t need all of the tonkas to work on your lake you just need the 350 Barney and 220 and the komatsu
Dang it I wanted to see all that water moving down stream through the new pond and out that overflow onto the fence line. Had to be somewhat of a wave through the system.
small pond big project but will be a fun one. nothing like home chores. cheers.
Love the outside cab view. Any chance we can get it on the Volvo's? Miss it . 😃
Hope there is no property down below faces flooding 😅😅😅😅
Looks like a monster fire and massive top soil in future content. 🙂 Always entertaining
Welcome Chris
when you're done with the pawn you out to stock it. there's just nothing like catching a fish and frying it right there on the spot
I hope you negotiated a good price with yourself for this pond renovation. 😅
Could you just cut down to the the clay layer behind the dam and then just lay the good portion of the the dam over ?
No Dragline on this baby, time to get to work with modern equipment🤗
It is good to see you working on your own place and making more ground for a pond is a good idea. Nice work Sir.
Chris have you seen your alligator anymore around ponds he's somewhere close
Good thing you need topsoil and have a place to go with it…..
🇺🇸🇨🇱
Would it not be viable to run a trencher along the dam into the clay then pour a clay slurry then let it settle?
Could you just line the inside of the dam with some good clay to stop the leak
Hope you dredge all that organic material out of there so you can actually put fish in it
Great video Chris. At this rate most of the trees will be gone in your area haha.
Chris, Why is it that breaking dams and stoking a fire is so darn addictive?
Are you going to add fish to all the ponds when you’re done ?
I hear music, someone or something other than you in the background
I have to say that the pond build videos are by far my favorite.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Loving 'bucket cam' Chris!
Looks like it would be a nice little bass pond when you get it finished
Lots of machines plus lots of dirt equals lots of views! 12:28
THANKS!
taking bets how many old car tractor/ implements are in the bottom
I used to drain puddles with a shovel and really thought I was doing good lol
I thought i recognized the pond. Its on your farm
Call Post10 he'll break that dam for you.
That’s gonna be a swamp for a while but that dam needed to be redone
It's always an interesting video with Chris!
Great camera location from about 13:00 to 15:00; could actually see the water level and then the breach…where will you divert the water to keep from having a swamp below this pond?
Great video and good luck on this project 😅
