Massive Waves That Hit California Also Battered Shore Acres State Park, Oregon!

  • Yet another massive wave explosion show at Shore Acres State Park in Oregon. Video clips and still photos were taken on 12/23/24. Stills were taken by Randy White from Grants Pass Oregon.
    Shore Acres was originally built as an estate in 1910 for Louis J. Simpson, a Coos County timber baron. After a 1921 fire and financial losses devastated his estate holdings, Simpson sold the land to the State of Oregon in 1942. The mansion was taken over by the government during World War II and was used as a radar site. The state took the property back after war, demolished the mansion but maintained the accompanying gardens which still exist!

      This was one of my Mom's favorite Oregon State Parks. Storms and Christmas lights always drew her to Shore Acres. I've seen many images of big waves from that viewpoint. But I've never seen any waves this massive and spectacular!
      This image should win an award. I hope you enter it into some contests. 🏆🌫🌬🌊🥇

    Just some advise based on personal experience : If an overhead water explosion lands on you it will retract to the sea and often can be the amount of water you'll find in the kids swimming pool.. like almost 2 foot !! It can drag you back to sea. It happened to me once but i could luckily grab hold of a rail mounted on the dike. These explosions are not just a 'bit' of water coming down. You don't want to end up dying a truly horrible death.

    Cape Arago which is where this was taken is incredibly beautiful. They have an amazing Japanese garden there. It’s stunning and it’s quite large. It also has beautiful beachfront with seals and waterfalls. It is in completely worth a drive just to go see this area. Much less this beautiful park where all these waves are, which is within that same vicinity. If you haven’t been and you are an influencer, I will tell you this is one place you can go where maybe there aren’t too many people. These people who wander off trail should see the videos on UA-cam of water bomber drops. Demonstrations have been done to show the power of a few tons of well dispersed “spray” from fire safe altitudes hitting cars, structures etc. It is shocking. This isn’t kids in a sprinkler. Car totally flat. Sheds destroyed with a fraction of the water seen here. Just spray you say?

      Lived on Sunset Beach in Hawaii as a kid. 1951-1953. Huge waves would pound holes in the sand, and when the tide rolled out, we had large saltwater swimming pools to play in, 3-4’ deep. My mom danged near had a nervous breakdown because of that beach…with three little mischievous girls to watch after…until we finally got base housing. She couldn’t swim.

      I just happened to be at my computer when your comment popped. I asked Steven Michael (Mr. Shore Acres... he has the best shots and lives about 10 minutes from SA) this morning...he has no clue when the road will be passable. One can still walk from Sunset Bay to SA...

    Al, I saw what you typed in the video, but in the future you might want to think about doing this w/ drones from now on. You never can tell when a mammoth wave will get over the "safe zone".

    • @Seracdog
      @Seracdog  Місяць тому

      Good suggestion however, it is often quite windy making flying a drone very risky. In addition, flying drone in a state park is frowned upon!

    Seems like there must be some underlying causes for the oceans to be so rough, I lived on the Oregon coast for years and never saw anything like this, it seems to be happening up and down the west coast this year.

    • @Seracdog
      @Seracdog  Місяць тому

      The situation at Shore Acres is very unique! It is the way the ocean bottom has eroded away of the years that allows for the big explosions to occur.

    Part of me wants to say I have no sympathy for these idiots that get washed into the sea because of their foolhardiness and ignorance. Alas, I’m not able to say that. It breaks my heart that they will leave behind a family grieving for something so unnecessary. If your shots don’t scare the pants off some of these characters that would go out there, nothing will. This is absolutely stunning photography/videography! I live on the prairies in Canada. I have not just major respect for the ocean, but a lot of terror after having been pummelled in Mexico. I was lucky to be spit up onto the beach. Young and dumb. 😉
    It’s weird all of a sudden I have started watching videos of ships in storms with 30 and 50 foot waves. Part of watching that has reduced my fear a little bit of the ocean and up to my respect. If you take precautions, you do everything possible you have a chance of survival if something goes wrong. Don’t go out in bad weather, the only thing you can’t control is the ocean itself. If the ocean decides it wants you, it’s gonna take you rogue waves are emblematic of that.
    Thank you once again … happy new year. I hope it’s a healthy happy one filled with cool moments like this for you to share your craft with the world.😊
