You can't just build a stadium where ever you want. The government has to give you premission. And at the time, the City of Oakland didn't even have control of HT. They never had the amount they needed and the clock ran out.

I have seen them all, Reggie, Rudi, Ricky, Hunter, Bando, Chavez, Donaldson, Lansford, Chapman, Stew, Eck on and on and on. I saw a Nolan Ryan no-hitter there. I saw Clemens lose his cool and get tossed early in the '89 division series against Boston from great seats I could read his lips. I have witnessed so many epic moments all my life there. But it means nothing to current ownership. It is a lifetime for me but nothing to them. Do you not get what makes your business a success? We do not pay to watch the owners of a team. How can you be that greedy and that heartless?
No, they asked for the moon and stars, then the second they could leave they asked for a smaller stadium 9n less land that cost less money with STATE aid instead of CITY aid, shouldn't take a degree in finance to understand one of those entities has a larger budget, and that's the one he asked for less public money. Oakland was working in a sight and securing public funds for the stadium and infrastructure for a site at Howard Terminal for a stadium of a similar size to Vegas. It's on ownership to make give stadium plans for approval for it and funding from the city/state, not the other way around, and he purposely chose to ask for so much that they couldn't say yes.
Oakland politics REFUSED to give up Howard Terminal without practically having to give HALF ownership of the A's to the city. The CITY was demanding EVERYTHING! And the A's weren't willing to be thrown to the dogs.
I'm an A's fan that lives in Northern Nevada and I don't want them to move. I'm pissed at Oakland for fing the team around. A lot of people told me you're lucky because you get to more games. No I don't. Use your maps app and see how far it is from Gardnerville, NV to Oakland. Then see how far it is from Gardnerville to where the A's new park is going to be. It's a 3.5 hour drive for me to go see them to play in Oakland. It's a 7 hour 15 minute drive to see them play at their new park in Las Vegas. MLB already said they would waive the location fee.
Ya but now you dont have to go through oakland/a 3rd world country/giant shit hole. In and out burger in oakland closed because of all the thefts happing in and outside the restaurant. Ppl would literally rob multiple ppl waiting for their food in the drive thru. Cali is going to s**t.
The city of Oakland needs the same blame for losing all those teams. Ignoring team demands that brings a shit ton of revenue and history will almost lead to relocation.
It's Oakland. There's only so much a city like Oakland can do. It's not like Oakland is Los Angeles or San Francisco. Oakland can't provide that kind of capital. Oakland is mostly a blue collar city. It's not a tourist destination. I've never seen anyone say "ooooh I can't wait to go and visit Oakland." These moves are about money. Oakland just got out bid.
There are only three MLB teams that have never issued a 100 million dollar contact. The A's, the White Sox, and the KC Royals. Yet, there is only ONE team that has never even had a 100 million dollar payroll, and that's the Oakland Athletics. The owner doesn't invest in the team, and fans are sick of a team getting gutted each year. The blame falls squarely on the ownership, and if the A's move to Vegas, Fisher will either sell the team for more profit or continue to fall back to the same routine of spending nothing and collecting revenue sharing in the now 40th TV market (Vegas). Watch.
I think it makes complete sense for Vegas to get as many sporting events as possible. Younger people are not interested in gambling or even drinking as much. They are interested in sports betting and weed. Two things Las Vegas can provide. Having professional teams makes it a fun destination to see your favorite team play and to enjoy some of the newer upcoming non- gambling attractions
You said that young people are NOT into gambling, but then you turned around and said they're into sport bettings. In reality sport betting is gambling.
The only thing wrong with the idea of the A's moving to Las Vegas NV is that they had to start tearing down a Hotel amd casino instead of buying some empty property which there is all along Las Vegas Blvd
So, I watch this 8 months after you put this up. Be curious of your take, today. This is well done and I was hesitant to even watch. I don't want to see the A's move and it's clear, that we always thought it was an "Oakland" problem, but it is now more clear that it's a Fisher problem. Still no renderings and this is falling apart by the day. I root for chaos.
Remarkable how long history has been repeating its self with my Oakland A"s. Dating back to A's selling players from KC to Yankees, one of those being Roger Maris. Then the multiple ownership changes and constant attempts at relocations, from KC, to Oakland, and out of Oakland. Wild!
Insane that Oakland lost not only the Raiders, the Warriors AND the Athletics all within a few years. That said, considering Vegas just won a Stanley Cup, maybe the new city will help return both the A's and Raiders to championship glory sometime soon
I dont blame the A's at all. This is Oakland's fault. They continue to elect terrible politicians who have allowed the city to lose all of their major sports teams.
@@LaBreeceTVIn my opinion they were banking on the A’s to be honest with there agreement to be media silent on Howard terminal before there scheduled meeting with A’s mediator. Oakland has been rated as the WORST CITY TO LIVE in the entire state of California for well OVER A DECADE. No wonder the A's want OUT. FRESNO ... is 2nd WORST!

I'm a longtime A's fan from Los Angeles. If Oakland is honest with itself, they will understand that the city or "the Town" as they call it is not in a position to host a professional sports club. They are one of the most unique fanbases around but financially the city just can't do it. Moving to Vegas is bittersweet because of all the memories they made in Oakland but hopefully when that stadium is built, it will reflect their past and future. #LetsGoAs
The city could. Walter Haas made it work but that's because he cared about the fans, team, city and actually invested and marketed the A's. The A's drew almost 3 million in both 90' and 91' and that's before Mount Davis was built. Also, they had the highest payroll in baseball in 91' while Haas was owner. It's not just Fisher as a lousy owner, Schott, Hofmann and Wolff were also. I don't think Fremont was a good idea but when that fell through, I would have looked hard at Sacramento. Try to keep the A's in Northern California.

It is truly sad to see the Oakland A’s leave for Las Vegas. When you stop and really think about it the A’s will never get a new ballpark in Oakland private or publicly funded. That’s just what happens when you, Intervine politics and sports. Nothing ever goes right
If anyone is to own a franchise, they need to have resources to keep them intact. Also, the way I see it, it's not just poor ownership throughout the Athletics history in Oakland, the city and the state of California has been poorly maintained throughout the decades.
The Vegas move costs nothing to taxpayers. There is no direct impact to homeowners. Public funds are used from bonds. I used to work with a contractor in the late 10s and he had a second place in Vegas for winter (from Chicago winters and for work). Told me Vegas then and now, is like the Denver of the 2000s. Booming. Good for them and as a Hawks fan I rooted for the Knights. Proved it could be done.
It’s tax payer money they were given. Where else is that money coming from? They already had to pay for more taxes for the raiders and when Fisher decides not to pay his portion, guess who’s next in line.
The As are widely regarded as a poverty franchise. And the politicians in Oakland and California where never going to financially help the As with their new stadium. So I’m not surprised ownership decided to find help from a city that would help them. It’s the same story that happens with every major sports team that moves to another city.
Blame on Manfred who seems to have no clue what´s going on in Oakland and their crappy ownership. I recommend to watch Casey Pratt or Brodie Brazil to get a full view on the picture. It doesn´t make absolutely no sense to move to Vegas. Smaller Market, less gov. funding compared to Oakland, smaller stadium (30k) on an only 9acre leased landside compared to over 50 acre at Howard Terminal, in Vegas nearly every A´s game needs to be sold out to make it affordable, etc..... But if Vegas will get it they will recognize very soon that this has been a bad deal as they don´t get a winning team as long as Fisher is the owner. This guy is not willing to invest in the team to make it competitve (See A´s for more than a decade, see San Jose Earthquakes).
I think it's a good thing to have an MLB team in Vegas because it can help increase the popularity of the sport of Baseball in countries where it's not as popular. Mainland China for example. Someone could come over to Vegas during vacation time and get an interest in American sports, thus boosting the popularity of Baseball in many other countries where it's not so popular. I think mainland China could get their major pro league back if that was the case. Who agrees with me?
Some tourists going to watch one of, if not the shittiest team in baseball isn't gonna do much to help spread the popularity of baseball. As bad as the A's are it may be a negative for baseball. Right now its pretty much just people who live near Oakland who are subjected to watching them play, largely out of some twisted sense of loyalty by fans.
@@fuktrumpanzeeskum I don't really believe what you are saying. What I'm saying is similar to the Raiders playing in Vegas or the Golden Knights playing in Vegas. The Raiders can help increase the popularity of the sport of American Football in countries where the popularity i s low like South Korea, while the Golden Knights can help increase the popularity of the sport of Ice Hockey in warm-weather countries like Mexico. Tourists from all over the world come to Vegas a lot every year, so that's why it all makes sense.

Barbara Lee needs to start collecting signatures/co-sponsors to let MLB know its anti-trust exemption will be taken away if it goes through with this. MLB and billionaires who extort these cities need to pay a price. Alameda County must sue the A's for fraud in the inducement, the lie that the coliseum property was necessary to remain in Oakland, when it was just a scheme to get prime real estate on the dime. If necessary, take it through imminent domain.
@@Baseball_Fan_NV wrong, there was definitely a breach of good faith and fair dealing, so the exemption does have merit to challenge it. It's actually in the works at this moment.
@@gregusjay Only according the the Mayor who doesn't have a leg to stand on. The A’s have acted in good faith in their 20 plus year attempt to find a suitable stadium solution in the Bay Area. Their current location at the Oakland-Alameda Colosseum is not only past its prime, but considerably below the standards of Major League Baseball. Not seeing sufficient progress in their quest, the League directed the A’s two years ago to seek other alternative locations. The A’s decided with League approval, that Las Vegas would be an acceptable alternative to consider. During the past two years, the A’s have been very open about their parallel path approach. Due to external time pressures, and considering the situations in both Oakland and Las Vegas, the A’s made a decision in April to focus on Las Vegas. So the bottom line, the Mayor's claim is without merit, the legislation by Lee and her cohort will go nowhere. It is only political grandstanding for her Senate campaign.
@Baseball_Fan_NV I don't agree with your assumption of the facts. Oakland did indeed have a solid proposal that was made to the A's. Unlucky for Oakland a new mayor took office and pretty much has opposed giving John Fisher more public funds as Oakland had already raised roughly 400 million from private and state entities. Seems you and the commish of baseball are ignorant of the facts. Fisher is cash poor and his value is tied to stock in his GAP company and the revenue sharing $ he gets for the A's. An example of how of touch Commish Manfred is on the situation..he referred to the A's site as the MGM site and had no inclination of the offers Oakland has made. But what will be interesting is where Fisher will get the 1.5 Billion to build the smallest ball park in the majors. My bet is he flips the team and cashes out at Nevada's expense. So he can line his coffers with real $$ since his company is failing.
@@gregusjay I don't know if you follow Zennie, but he is quite familiar with the situation in Oakland and said they provided a Term Sheet, which is different than an actual proposal. But aside from those details, whether Oakland had provided the A's a proposal, the real question is if the proposal was acceptable to the A's, or the best one in their judgement. Apparently even if the Oakland had provided the A's a proposal, it clearly wasn't good enough to entice them to pursue that in Oakland versus going to Las Vegas. As far as how Manfred referred to the site, that was an innocent mistake. MGM is next to the Tropicana site and is very prominent. Could have been just a slip of the tongue. I'm sure he was familiar with the situation in Las Vegas, especially based on reports that he and Gov. Lombardo had been in touch. Also, it can be problematic to determine Fisher's assets as solely related to the GAP stock value. Most likely all the income over the years has been invested in a diversified portfolio. Bottom line, the A's were open in their parallel path approach and they decided on Las Vegas.
Yet another thing leaving the disaster of a state called California. One of the prettiest states absolutely gutted by decades of a Democrat supermajority.
As sad as it is, it makes sense for the A's to move, although I do wish to a market more keen on getting a ball club like Nashville or Charlotte. However, what's going to be required from the A's and their owners is one key thing (outside of actual spending on team payroll obviously): a full, top-to-bottom, rebrand. Part of the reason the Golden Knights have been so wildly successful in Vegas and for the NHL as a whole is the fact they are an expansion team, born and bred exclusively for Las Vegas. The Raiders were able to get away with keeping their brand due to the fact the Raider brand is extremely strong nationwide and an icon for the NFL. The A's can't do that. The A's brand is tarnished and associated with Oakland and being a cheap poverty franchise. That's not going to fly, so they need a new name, new colors, new uniforms, and a new identity to show Vegas they're not just guests but their team now. Plus, the early merchandise sales will certainly make them lots of money too.
Oakland a's will move to Las Vegas and Memphis and Nashville will be an expansion for Major League Baseball. Charlotte will also be an expansion for MLB so that their interleague rival will be the Atlanta Braves.
Parking in Vegas is HELL during sports events . They literally close all the streets and traffic is a bitch. Can’t even get a Lyft cuz they can’t reach you .
If you really think about it the A’s are the reason for the Raiders not being in Oakland anymore apart of me wish the A’s never came to Oakland in 60’s the Raiders should be here today in Oakland smh in my opinion there was no need for a second Bay Area baseball team it would’ve been fine if the whole region rooted for the Warriors, Sharks, Giants and Raiders.
I lived in the East Bay area and S.F. for 20+ years. The only blame needs to go the Leaders of the Alameda County=(Mostly) and the City of Oakland. Guess who comes out smiling now... SF Giants and the Silcon Valley 49ers 😁
The City of Oakland didn't have any funding to built a new ballpark for the Athletics, It was the same issue with the Raiders, They deserve too lose the Athletics, They already lost the Raiders!!
@@studmuffin6630 I can bet that disassembling Mount Davis itself would be expensive. It anyone can find a citation, that would be great. Mount Davis was a huge downgrade. The Oakland Coliseum has never had any sort of true renovation and it opened in 1966! Without Mount Davis, The Oakland Coliseum could have been renovated. That may have been a less expensive option than a new ballpark. Before Mount Davis, The Coliseum was a serviceable bowl modeled on Dodger Stadium. The Coliseum did not have a lot of maintenance and upkeep devoted to it. That was a larger factor in how the park has decayed.
The truth is you can blame Fisher all you want but Oakland really dragged its feet for a long time to get them a new place to play. Also seeing that this is all but passed in NV if it was rejected by the MLB owners it would be seen as a slight by the NV leg and would have a uphill battle ever getting public money in Vegas.
Sure there is. For at least 5 years they will pack the place because it's new. By then they will have a competitive team. Not to worry they will be just fine.
Some of the information in this video is incorrect. 1. You imply that the sale of the A’s in 1995 was due to the death of their owner Walter Haas. Not true. Walter Haas agreed to sell the A’s to Steve Schott & Ken Hoffman in January of 1995. Walter Haas himself gave the reason as business: he lost money operating the team every year he owned it. Walter Haas died on September 20, 1995, a full 9 months after agreeing to sell the team. The other MLB owners approved the sale on September 14, 1995, 6 days before Haas died. 2. You state that the attempted sale of the A’s in 1978 to Marvin Davis (and a subsequent move to Denver) didn’t happen because of the Oakland Coliseum reacting to the Raiders impending move to Los Angeles. Not true. The Board of Directors of the Oakland Coliseum would not release the A’s from their lease due to the actions (or more specifically, the lack of actions) of the San Francisco Giants. The Oakland Coliseum Board was willing to release the A’s from their lease in 1978 if the Giants would agree to play one-half of their home games in the Oakland Coliseum. The Giants balked, agreeing to only play a minimal number of home games (about 20) in the Oakland Coliseum. Thus the Board held the A’s to their lease, and the deal between Finley and Davis was scrapped. The issue with the Raiders moving to Los Angeles did not arise until almost a full 2 years later in 1980 when Raiders owner Al Davis and the Los Angeles Coliseum announced an agreement. The Raiders didn’t play in Los Angeles until the 1982 season.

That idiot mayor fucked around and found it. Considering what a shithole Oakland is, she should have been begging them to stay.
@BiggaNigga69 cwlnc
Oakland lost the golden state warriors,Raiders and now the A's.
Oakland is in no financial position to provide public subsidies for billion dollar sports clubs.
Watch.
Being an A's fan all my life its sad to see them leave oakland. But thanks for the memories

The only thing wrong with the idea of the A's moving to Las Vegas NV is that they had to start tearing down a Hotel amd casino instead of buying some empty property which there is all along Las Vegas Blvd

Wild!
Wow this is the best recap of the A's ever. You did an amazing job.

Funny how they played part of a season in Las Vegas in the 90s, in what would turn out to be an uncanny predictor of the future 😮
Insane that Oakland lost not only the Raiders, the Warriors AND the Athletics all within a few years. That said, considering Vegas just won a Stanley Cup, maybe the new city will help return both the A's and Raiders to championship glory sometime soon

@@antioch1975 I think Sacramento would've made them only a local team especially if they became the Sacramento A's.

That's not always true. Some cities had viable plans for a new stadium. And the backstabbing owner still took the team away.
The Raiders can help increase the popularity of the sport of American Football in countries where the popularity i

help increase the popularity of the sport of Ice Hockey in
warm-weather countries like Mexico. Tourists from all over the world come to Vegas a lot every

Most delusional on every point. The only thing you left out was putting the team management in jail.
We will miss the A’s in Oakland😢
Totally agree. The A’s name should be left in Oakland and be made to have their own name.
Oakland a's will move to Las Vegas and Memphis and Nashville will be an expansion for Major League Baseball.
Charlotte will also be an expansion for MLB so that their interleague rival will be the Atlanta Braves.
Nashville and Charlotte make no geographical sense. And Kaval already said the name isn't changing.

Maybe if Oakland teams would have been relevant for the past 15 years it would be different
