Apologies for some of the mispronunciations, it was an oversight while doing my research. It was also difficult to find some of the names being said so I just did my best. First video growing pains. I plan to do better in the future.
Despite not playing in Philadelphia in over 70 years, the Philadelphia A’s still have more championships than the a Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia 76ers, and Philadelphia Flyers. Team should have never left and should have been sold to Milton Hersey!
@@smallworldbigworld-yi3xw when one super rich man has his own city, theme park, stadium, and college, and the other was so disgruntled with his job and the league that the league had to veto his cost cutting, youve gotta wonder if the hershey company would have more consistent ownership- despite selling chocolate with the eccentricity of cheese.

I don’t think he does it for this reason. He does it to be a jackass and stay undetected so as to not draw the ire of the fans, team members, & staff that he constantly short changes. Prime example is the food he provides during spring training and after games & his lack of care for the minor league affiliates. Dude is just a rich dbag that only cares about his bottom line. Plus it’s not just the A’s he is cheap with. He does it to his MLS club the San Jose Earthquakes & the Scottish Premier League team Celtic FC, who like the A’s have a very long & storied history. In fact he keeps driving great players and managers out of Celtic & forces them to fend for scraps even worse than before.
What a great video! Thank you for producing this video because it was very informative and entertaining. I look very forward to watching more of your videos in the future and you have a new fan!
I know the A's history from the late 80's to today quite well. In the late 80's and early 90's they had the highest payroll in baseball. Even though they cut the payroll after 1992 during some financial problems, they still gave out large contracts to McGwire and Sierra, so they were still trying. Into the early 2000s they were still trying to retain big names (offered Giambi a big contract at the time even though he still left for the Yankees). Since then they just don't even try anymore and trade stars years away from free agency because they want to go even cheaper.
Greatest and most successful team in the American League Western Division during their tenure in Oakland. 17 first place finishes, 6 American League Pennants, 4 World Championships. Only to be destroyed by Fisher & Kaval
I think the biggest joke in baseball is people thinking that Rickey Henderson didn't take steroids haha not just the fact that the dude was fucking jacked and lean and was so well into his 40s. But he got a lot bigger rather quickly in New York and then shocking to no one, when he went to the Athletics for the second time he was playing with canseco and McGuire and managed to hit his career high in home runs. With 28. As a leadoff hitter lmao. The dude was right in the middle of the steroid era and was right in the middle of a team that is notorious for the steroid era and was Jacked as hell and hitting almost as many home runs as the power hitters lmao. Rickey Henderson is amazing and I loved every second of watching him play but anyone who thinks that that dude was not a walking pharmacy has no clue. Steroids come in many different varieties and have many different uses. My buddy has been on steroids for the last fifteen years and he hasn't gotten any bigger in the last five. He uses them to maintain a phenomenal physique. Another buddy of mine is 165 lb on steroids. You don't always have to be huge you can be fat and on steroids you can be tiny and on steroids you can be jacked and on steroids. But Rickey Henderson i promise you was on them. And he's definitely not alone in the Hall of Fame. I wish you would admit it so we can finally put the best players of all-time like bonds in the Hall of Fame where he belongs. David Ortiz in the Hall of Fame and he tested positive for steroids. Rickey Henderson retired before they started testing but Jose canseco definitely hinted at him being one of them and he was pretty honest about who was taking them. Andb even without canseco it's so obvious just from looking at Ricky.
That’s a great question that I don’t have an answer to. Animal issues are a problem for a lot of stadiums, Oakland is just unique because it ended up in their press booth. I would expect the grounds crew to have removed it by now.
Did I miss someone. Man, campy Bert campaneris. He's the only player to play all 9 innings. Not to mention he was a champion, yes this maybe should have been position players so you could get most. But campy has to be on that list
Was sad to hear you include the A's with the Pat's but not the San Antonio Spurs or the Lakers. They are the definition of elite american sports franchises.
I was at the game the night before Ricky broke the stolen base record, he was taking off for second had the base stolen and Canseco hit a perfect inside out swing single in the gap where the second basemen should have been 🤬
Idk Jays had some stacked teams in the early 90’s , when I hear “bad ownership“ I automatically think of the Expos & Marlins. Loria did such a good job destroying baseball in Montreal that MLB had no choice but to reward him with the new FL franchise. Those FL teams were dismantled practically before the WS was over.
@@dandyjimbuckley Indeed, but Loria's son David Samson does have a good sports show that talks about baseball in a business perspective. As for the Jays, we sold to a beer company doesn't care about baseball, and the strike kills it.
As was said by a previous commentor, the Oakland A's have an incredibly rich history, but because they are in Oakland(a small city for a pro team) and A Small Market team they have been greatly overlooked by Baseball mainly because the city of Oakland is sadly overshadowed by their neighbor to the west the one time more glamorous San Francisco(not these days), at one time during the Haas dynasty years the Oakland A's had the HIGHEST PAYROLL in MLB from 1989 to 1992 I believe I could be off a year either way. I loved the A's, age and poor ownership has diminished my intrest in Baseball and the A's all I have to say is Fu*k you John Fisher you could have been a mega hero keeping the A's in Oakland now Oakland has lost its last major sports team and will most likely never have another because Oakland city officials have a horrible record with working with Pro teams ie. The Raiders and A's I hated seeing the Raiders and now A's leave.
Veeda blue? Really? I do like watching these types of videos, but do the smallest amount of research to get the names right of big time players like Vida Blue
That moneyball theory seems like a straight up ticket to mediocrity. Never getting to a WS but always in the middle which means missing out on top draft picks. Every year. Forever.
It’s been working pretty well for Tampa despite them never winning a World Series they’re a great team every year. The sport is inherently unfair when the Yankees and dodgers can spend 200 million more dollars on their rosters
"They arent unlike the Yankees or the New England Patriots, one of the most successful franchises in sports." To be clear, no franchise in baseball is like the New York Yankees. Not even the Cardinals. That said, they are a storied and rich organization. (And to be honest, I dont consider the Patriots a successful franchise. Name five Patriots prior to the Brady Era. You can't. They are a low tier franchise that lucked into the most successful player in history. The A's have been good in every era, excluding the modern era.

Happy to stir up some good memories
It really is crazy how rich of a history this franchise has had given the point they're at right now. nice vid.
Sad I love the A’s of 1987-90
That’s what happens when you have a terrible ownership that didn’t invest in the team or community. The A’s under Walter Haas flourished.
The A's history reminds me a lot of the history of Williams in F1

Awesome video. Makes one wonder how many more Championships the A's would have won if Free Agency did not happen in 1976.
He started to give away his star players by 1975!

How did he pronounce Mickey Cochran's name ?!?!?!

For sure but they all were and prob still are, I don’t judge I’d just prefer it to be fair. All using the same stuff or all clean
You can do a history on bad ownership and the A’s, how do we almost always get terrible owners
And maybe follow up with full episodes for the Expos & Marlins . 😊
Finely tried to move the A’s to Atlanta before the Braves
is the possum still in the commentators booth?
