Nice presentation. I was in Las Vegas last month and went to see the Mirage volcano. So many of the family-friendly aspects of Vegas have disappeared, it's nice to see the volcano and the fountain show at the Bellagio. The cost of visiting Vegas have gone up astronomically and the free attractions disappearing as well as the buffet prices getting unreasonable, it's no wonder that fewer people are going to Vegas. You hit it on the head. Also you can gamble anywhere. If they want masses of people it needs to be cheap. Otherwise you can tear down those 3000 room motels.
Tell me about it. Costs went sky high, service went to hell, and a lot of fun shows are gone. I miss Jubilee, though Vegas The Show is a nice call back to that (has a lot of ex-Jubilee showgirls and dancers).
Exactly. I'm glad this history is here, it verifies my memory of childhood in the 80s, when the adults would talk about how Las Vegas went to shit in the 70s and 80s and how much better it all was back in the 1950s, 60s, early 70s. Today people talk about how great Vegas was in the 80s, 90s, 2000s. But that's not reality. Vegas was not that cool through most of the 80s, not until 1989. Ofcourse, people will always say 10, 20, 30 years ago everything was better.
If they get rid of that volcano, I’ll just say I’m glad to have caught it erupting. I really hope they find a way keep it though so that others can see it. Also a very special hotel for me since I stayed there several years ago. Good times.
I've lived in Vegas almost 40 years and only just saw the volcano erupt in the last year or so and I'm glad i finally did, especially if they do get rid of it.
How many times does a person have to see the same old thing? I watched it a couple times...and didn't bother there after. I DO miss the pirates show though...that was something that was always a little different every time I saw it. Can't wait for the guitar.
I always hated Las Vegas with all of the neon and glitz of the early days, but liked what it transformed into after the Mirage which offered a lot more entertainment options to someone like me who does not gamble. I live in San Diego, and most likely will never go to Las Vegas again since I no longer have the friends who enjoyed it there, and there are enough things for a person like me to do in Southern California. I had no idea that Wynn owned so many casino / hotels there, interesting video!
One of my fondest childhood memories is going with my father, grandfather, and brother to see Siegfried and Roy. It was ridiculous and over-the-top, perfect for Vegas!
When we toured the Hoover dam in 2007 they talked about the origins of Las Vegas. All the workers on the dam lived in boulder city but it was a dry city. So they would go to Vegas to spend their money and unwind.
Ceasars Palace was the first mega resort. I worked at the Castaway Silver Slipper, Frontier, Imerial Palace, Desert Inn, Ceasars, Excalibur and the international, which is now the Hilton on Paradise off the strip and the Aladdin, I also had a Nevada state gaming license. What a great time it was.🎉. I left Vegas and got into Native American casino operations. Now I'm retired and have two great-grandchildren. 25:39. I also sold my two date palms for $4000. They planted them in the Marage.❤ 12:25 retired Retired at 50.

I wouldn't consider the mirage a ruin or even abandoned. it is still very much running and was just bought by hard rock and is just in the process of being transferred over from MGM Resorts to Hard rock., It was also renovated not that long ago with new rooms and changes to the casino and shop area.

I remember when Luxor was the cutting edge. Their club RA, all of the accommodations. Most of these hotels were cutting edge. But nothing lasts forever. But to see them swapped out is rather surreal. But then again if you showed Times Square to someone that was of age back in 1910. They might feel differently about it. Age plays funny things on people.
@@kolonarulez5222 yeah they had the Pharaohs exhibit. That light was supposed to be seen from space. Blueman Group was there. I’m not sure if they went back or stayed at Venetian after they moved. In 1996 Darling Wife and I flew to Las Vegas, drove to Zion Canyon, Utah, and Sedona, Arizona, then back to Las Vegas. Managed an off day and got two nights in the Mirage and the Sigfried & Roy show for less than a single night in a room went for. We had seats on the stage. I manage to keep that last point secret from Darling Wife, who only found out about it when usher reminded her "keep your hands off the stage". She was two feet away from the face of the tiger when they walked it around; tiger gave her a look like "you're a cat person, aren't you"? Because of the curve of the stage, we could actually see through the stage and the illusions, which made it no difference in the wonder.
They could easily change the volcano show to a music themed pyrotechnics show. I’m really sad they’re getting rid of all the themed hotels though and I’m not ready to see it go.
I loved The Mirage as it was before MGM. Sometime in the mid 2000s under MGM they got rid of all that made it a place you wanted to stay. Just rubbish these days. Steve Wynn knew how to make a great hotel. MGM made it feel as though something was trying to suck money out of you wherever you went in there. But, in the Steve Wynn days, this was a wonderful place.
I've seen it about five times. I had no idea the last time would literally be the last time. The last time I watched the volcano, a couple of years back was the last time I'd see that, as well. They're building a stupid hotel shaped like a guitar.

Always stayed at the Mirage yearly from the late 90's to about 2016. It was a very comfortable place to stay and the location was great. The smell of treated pool water and AC is something I'll never forget walking into the huge atrium. I thought the volcano was a bit tacky.
Ah, yes... over 3 decades, that is a good run. Enjoyed many visits; fond memories of the volcano, the animal conservatory and Love and the place that started the "New Vegas" period. Things come and things go. What happened to 50s-60s Vegas will happen to 90s-00s Vegas in due time.

I stayed last march for the first time and enjoyed it. It was nice room and awesome view. I hate it is no longer apart of the MGM family but it has reached out with comps for me to comeback
And Also, you realize that the Y shape was NOT Wynn’s invention, as it was lifted from the design from 1969, of the International Hotel and casino on Paradise which then became the famous Las Vegas Hilton, and home to the largest electric sign in the world?
I worked at both properties from 2013-2016 and I can tell you that when TI was sold to the Ruffins it went to shit. Mirage was on its last leg when MGM took over and they cut so much for employees.

Historians could argue with details here. One thing for certain is that Steve Wynn and his Mirage changed the direction of Las Vegas to this day.
Good times.
pickpocketing central, good to see it go.
I've lived in Vegas almost 40 years and only just saw the volcano erupt in the last year or so and I'm glad i finally did, especially if they do get rid of it.
I agree but it's all but gone.
How many times does a person have to see the same old thing? I watched it a couple times...and didn't bother there after. I DO miss the pirates show though...that was something that was always a little different every time I saw it. Can't wait for the guitar.
@@Skulllywag i suppose hard rock will do something really epic
I stayed at the Mirage in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013. I loved it every time. Absolutely the best pool.
RIP
That scene of Clark W. Griswold in place as one of the tigers is so funny...Vegas Vacation is a classic!
Who’s here after they made the announcement for the mirage closing in July . Keep up the good work @LaBreeceTV
One of my fondest childhood memories is going with my father, grandfather, and brother to see Siegfried and Roy. It was ridiculous and over-the-top, perfect for Vegas!
For an abandoned hotel, they sure charged a lot when I stayed there last week
Lol
Gotta PAY for the big guitar that’s goin up! 😂
When we toured the Hoover dam in 2007 they talked about the origins of Las Vegas. All the workers on the dam lived in boulder city but it was a dry city. So they would go to Vegas to spend their money and unwind.
This was my favorite hotel. I loved the 50’s gangster, rat pack feel with the dark jungly casino area. I will miss it.
Right?
This was an excellent video.
Stayed there in 2018 and staying there for NYE 2023. I now have a deeper appreciation of the property thanks to this video.
New Year's Eve that's great have fun and happy new years.
It did not start as a mega resort back in the day.
I had no idea it was changing. In August 2022 I had a room in the Linq with a gorgeous view of the Mirage and I'd definitely have taken more pictures had I known.
I loved staying at The Mirage. Nothing but fond memories.
I seriously can’t believe that they’re changing The Mirage to another Hard Rock Hotel.
Out dated business
Siegfried and Roy ads plastered all over the Mirage and all was right with the world! They were giants. Good times.
My wife and I stayed at the Mirage years ago. We enjoyed our stay and have played in the casino several times since.
I worked at he Mirage for 11 years from the opening. From housekeeping, room service and eventually the Bistro. fine dining. . Made a lot of cash. Vegas was booming. So sad to see. it going down. The stories i could tell would blow your mind.
$22.000 in severance pay ! Not too bad
Even with all the new classy hotels in Las Vegas, must say I enjoyed the uniqueness themes of the old days. Love the Excalibur, TI, Caesar’s Palace, Circus Circus. Ahhhh the good old days 😢
I saw them filming vegas vacation there! Thought that siegfried and roy marquee would be there forever! Thanks!
My cousin took me to the volcano when it erupts. You could feel the heat from across in the street. We walk around Cesar Palace for two hours, and saided we had not seen it all.Saw the pirate show, it was good.
Surprised they would eliminate such a iconic brand. Great video as always.
the history of vegas is full of this. state pf the art, super custom and innovative developments are old news in just a few years and get demolished before the fake gold can even start rusting
Love the detailed history you always have in your videos! Great video!
I was living in Vegas and working as a cabbie when The Mirage opened. Opening night was fantastic. But then again, I liked the Castaways, too. And the Dunes, Riviera, Westward Ho, etc.
Westward Ho was funny with all the hired picketers out front for many years. I bet there are several UA-cam videos on that by itself.
@@DocSavage82VK When some union picketed Howard Hughes for higher wages or whatever, he just closed his casinos. His attitude was he already had his money and if they don't want to work for him, that's just fine. Took less than a week.
The Mirage was one of those new corporate-run casinos that sprung up in the late 80s to early 90s that replaced and essentially took over the old mob-run casinos. An eye for an eye.
Agree. The volcano has since been one upped by every new casino.
I wouldn't consider the mirage a ruin or even abandoned. it is still very much running and was just bought by hard rock and is just in the process of being transferred over from MGM Resorts to Hard rock., It was also renovated not that long ago with new rooms and changes to the casino and shop area.
I remember when they opened the Mirage. It was amazing. I also liked the Hard Rock Hotel and went there a lot. I think the Mirage property would be a good fit for Hard Rock.
@@Scott_works I have been to the Mirage several times but never made it too the hard rock before it closed. I am a bit torn on the change. I really like the Mirage and the things it offered like the Volcano and animal sanctuary that will be closed when it changes to the hard rock but I also am excited to see what Hard Rock will do with the property and to also se another company on the strip to bring more competition.
@@starkiller18 I went to the Hard Rock for different reasons. The Mirage was amazing back in the day because is was such an extravagant place. It was huge. It was beautiful. It was amazing. The Hard Rock had girls, girls, girls. They even had pole dancers dancing by the black jack tables. I went to the Hard Rock to people watch.
Hard Rock Casino didn’t have dancing girls when I went 2018. It was actually pretty boring. IF you want dancing girls, goto Circa, the D, and Golden Gate (all the same owner)
It's wild watching an older movie like Mars Attacks and seeing the Luxor from years past. Couldn't imagine even further
@@kolonarulez5222 yeah they had the Pharaohs exhibit. That light was supposed to be seen from space. Blueman Group was there. I’m not sure if they went back or stayed at Venetian after they moved. It’s been years since I been there. But Vegas seems different now from the videos I seen. I think the shooting and Covid may have had its effects. Plus a lot of people loose a lot of money in tribal gaming here in California. I kind of want to go there to see first hand maybe this next year. We were there after 911. So it’s been quite awhile since we been there.
The Mirage will always be a very special place to me. 😢.
just stayed there 2 weeks ago it was a nice place and very well kept and clean. no complaints.
I agree 1000% I have stayed there last year. I booked 2 rooms 2 queen beds 2night for about 900 dollars the weekend
Still my favorite hotel in Vegas.
Went to mirage in 2022 . Smelled so good, and felt tropical.
Great video. History of the property was interesting! I had no idea about Steve Wynns involvement. You also finished it well by giving information about what may happen to the property.
Everything looks the same now. No reason to visit lots of casinos just walk and entertain yourself outside. Lol
Vegas had plans for a London resort and it never came to fruition, and I’m more angry Hard Rock wants to ruin the Mirage and they are so fooked.
I'm thinking they probably need that space where the Volcano is at to build a new hotel
Las Vegas without the Mirage will be like Val Halen without Eddie Van Halen.
It’s a dumb idea and I hope hard rock will rot in hell.
Still can’t believe Vegas Vacation was a crap shoot on rotten tomatoes, that was a great movie! 😂.
16:50 I loved Vegas Vacation and I know I'm not the only one.
If you liked Vegas Vacation? Then you should also check out another funny movie called…. Lost in America 🇺🇸 👍

I love the "Secret Garden". Dolphin pool, white tiger and so forth.
Aren’t those awesome?
Regardless of what happens to The Mirage, The Beetles: Love was an excellent show and arguably one of the best on the strip.
@@caldadextra2063 beatles
I've seen it about five times. I had no idea the last time would literally be the last time. The last time I watched the volcano, a couple of years back was the last time I'd see that, as well. They're building a stupid hotel shaped like a guitar.
@@diesixdie2 You know, keeping The Beatles: Love would fit perfectly with the an athletic of the Hard Rock Hotel. After all, rock itself wouldn’t be the same without the influence the Fab Four had on the genre (and still do through solo acts of the surviving members)
I STAYED AT THE MIRAGE IN 2010. STILL TO THIS DAY I HAD THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED I EVER LAY ON! IT'S A GREAT HOTEL.

They sold those mattresses in the gift shop.
Steve Wynn is Vegas! He has done so much for Vegas.
I'm sad to see this amazing hotel gone now. It was quite something ❤
I have close loved ones who worked there. In the sports bar, restaurant, and painting crew. I loved that place. 🎉 Spent many New Year's there. My son's father tended bar there for years. My son's birthday is 12/31❤
Hell, I still miss The Sands and The Dunes!
And the Stardust.
I really wish they would just leave things alone. It was a great place until about 2010. City Center is an eyesore and they are now just trying to out-dazzle each other.
I agree. MGM destroyed everything
Bravo! Totally outstanding video. I will really miss The Mirage. Thank you for giving it a proper send-off. Cheers.🥂
The Mirage is my favorite hotel in Vegas. Sad!
If Hard Rock takes it over, they should just keep the Beatles Love show going. Seems like a perfect (music) fit. Great show.
I'm from Australia. Did 2 months coast to coast road trip across USA. Hit every major city and sight. Stayed at Mirage for 2 nights and saw the Cirque du Soliel Beatles show 2 weeks ago there. Loved it. I loved it. Will be sad to see it go and replaced by a freaking Hard Rock hotel.
Always stayed at the Mirage yearly from the late 90's to about 2016. It was a very comfortable place to stay and the location was great. The smell of treated pool water and AC is something I'll never forget walking into the huge atrium. I thought the volcano was a bit tacky.
Yeah Vegas even though it's bigger now is nothing like it used to be. It's sad really I loved going there from the late 70's to early 90's
Ah, yes... over 3 decades, that is a good run. Enjoyed many visits; fond memories of the volcano, the animal conservatory and Love and the place that started the "New Vegas" period. Things come and things go. What happened to 50s-60s Vegas will happen to 90s-00s Vegas in due time.
The Mirage looks fine to me.
People in general, like what they “know “ the Mirage is a great place , been to Vegas the last few years, always stay at the Mirage
I have so many memories of the Mirage with my parent's 😢
Getting rid of the waterfall volcano is a CRIME!!!
We stayed at the Mirage the first week it opened and it was amazing. Was also lucky enough to have met Steve Wynn several times…was an invited guest to the opening of The Wynn…kinda sad that he got canceled…but…things happen
Man I just got back from Vegas and the mirage definitely wasn't abandoned, celebrities were everywhere and it was packed lol
The Mirage paved the way for other mega resorts in Las Vegas. But in order for them to be built, many of the older ones had to be closed and imploded.
In 1967, The Mirage property[ a vacant lot]. was owned by
Howard R Hughes
The year that Steve Wynn, invested in Frontier Hotel stocks
Steve Wynn, persuaded the owners to sell The Frontier to Mr Hughes
In return, The Mirage property was sold to Steve Wynn - Golden Nugget Incorporated.
The Towers of The Mirage remain in tact
as a historic landmark
to became a future image of The Strip
I stayed last march for the first time and enjoyed it. It was nice room and awesome view. I hate it is no longer apart of the MGM family but it has reached out with comps for me to comeback
I love the mirage, I'm sorry they are turning it into a guitar
We loved the Mirage and stayed their often. Don’t think we’ll stay at the Hardrock!
I am so glad that I came across your channel! You have a new subscriber!

I was there oct 14 - oct 20. Was at the mirage plenty, didn’t seem abandoned lol. Their pool is nice and cool in the hot Sun.
Great stuff as always, very well done.
I love the Circa De Soleil lol
What a great & insightful video
Well informative video. Lots of work. Detailed. Thank you.
Just came back from Vegas, the Volcano show is still there and I hope they don't close it!
Vegas Vacation is great! I've always been suprised when I meet someone who doesn't like it.
My pen burst in the altitude
My first time was this year and it was amazing! 🤩😍 plus we got to go to lovers and friends festival!
The Sid Caesar scene was great.
Thank you
Liked it back then. It's a joke now.
I was not expecting that news. First time I ever stayed on the strip was at the Mirage.
It’s sad seeing themed resorts go away, I want Vegas to keep some idk places and classic themed hotels like NY NY Resort & Casino
Glad they are redoing Mirage
A stupid guitar shaped building instead of the volcano??? Screw that... The whole Hard Rock brand is crazy 80s-90s... It will fail
It’s gonna fail big time.
I thought hard rock was already a failure
Do not get rid of LOVE!
And Also, you realize that the Y shape was NOT Wynn’s invention, as it was lifted from the design from 1969, of the International Hotel and casino on Paradise which then became the famous Las Vegas Hilton, and home to the largest electric sign in the world?
The International only had 2 wings when it opened.
Mirage is open and running as normal. Recently sold to hard rock but has not yet started the transformation...
I worked at both properties from 2013-2016 and I can tell you that when TI was sold to the Ruffins it went to shit. Mirage was on its last leg when MGM took over and they cut so much for employees.
I pray to God, they don’t change the volcano 🌋 that is the reason why people go to Las Vegas to see the volcano I’ll keep this in prayer 🤲 I
