I bought the Sarb035 about 8 years ago and it quickly became my favorite watches….simply stunning. I actually never wore it on the bracelet but had a dozen or so different straps (leather, fabric, rubber). It is a strap Monster! I gave it to my son last summer so he would have to wear at work and other events where he needed a truly classic watch. However, I missed it so much, I recently bought it back from a Japanese collector in near mint condition. I’m in heaven having it on my wrist again! Thanks for the great review
This was my first decent automatic. My first automatic I bought literally days before the Sarb035 and it was a Seiko 5 similar to the one you showed in this video. The Sarb is an incredible watch and has a good weight to it. I got mine new for $293 in 2015. That was the era for buying with Seiko because now all their prices for similar models are a lot more. Sapphire, solid end links, forged clasp, 6R movement for less than $300 at the time... the golden days.
@@the1010watchclub don't feel bad at all. No matter when you join, you always feel like you wish you joined sooner. I bought a Seiko 5 Datejust homage as my first automatic and it cost me $179 but just about a year or 2 before it would have been $80. They stop making them.
Still available new on Amazon in Nov 2020, $425 or £350 including import duties. I bought one for my birthday, lovely watch, running at +1.6 per day. Very comfy worn on a silicon strap and very classy on leather. Total strap monster with understated elegance. Get one while you can folks. Thanks for vid.
Good video! I bought this watch two years ago, right before prices started to climb. Paid $300 (brand new) and feel lucky that I did. Many have commented on the cream dial and at first, that was what held me back. But, I knew the 035 was discontinued and figured it was something I could live with. Turned out that I love the cream dial. I originally preferred a pure white or snow white dial to better complement the stainless steel. I didn't think I'd like the cream dial as much as I did. Man, I love it. There's a warmth to it that makes it feel more luxurious. I am so glad I picked it up when I did. It is my only white-dial watch, bit one of my favorites in my very small collection. Congrats, on showing the 035 some love. The 033 gets all of the attention.
Late to the party but I pulled the trigger after watching this video. I'm wearing mine one right now as I'm typing and I got to say the watch is really something else. Hoping to wear this one until I pass it on to my son when he grows up. More power to you and thank you for this video.
I wear mine every other day, on a Colareb grey leather strap. It alternates with my Rolex Explorer 114270 (36mm), I enjoy them equally, despite the large discrepancy in price 😁😁😁
I Explorer 1 was my absolut grail watch and since I have the sarb033 I completely forgot about the Rolex, its weird and can't even explain it ! So I ended up buying it's 35 sister and I am so happy with them those withe sarb017 ans skx are the core of my collection and I will largely be happy staying with those for the reste of my life
And you were right! Happy I picked mine up around this time. I leave it on black or brown leather to dress it up, nice to see and remember how well it does on other strap options. Might need to mess around with it!
I own a Seiko SARB035 which I bought new directly from Japan. In my opinion it is just as good as my Rolex Date Just in a Jubilee bracelet. By experience I have learned that with watches is reality vs. perception. If you pick a good low price watch it does't has anything to envy one that cost twenty times more. The satisfaction that you own a high price watch is in your mind.
I found a SARB033 in Japan last week on Buyee and it arrived today! Great condition no papers. I paid $345 which is less than what I paid for the 035 new a number of years ago and sold which I regret. This watch wears great and I am happy to have it back in the collection.
I agree, besides, I have too many watches with black dials but this dial is elegant and classy. Indeed, it is a joy to wear, it sits comfortably on my wrist, it looks and feels like a more expensive luxury timepiece. The X factor for me is that it feels like I'm wearing a jewel.
Always have wanted one but the price always scared me a bit for a new one since I am a high schooler so money is scarce, this video opened my eyes to buying a used one, Thankyou!
Player: if you're still young and money is scarce, think about it this way: You could spend more on a watch like this and possibly get years of wear out of it. OR it could be a casualty of youthful indescretion & recklessness (ie gets lost, etc). OR, you could start a VERY RESPECTABLE collection with automatics like the Orient Mako 2 or Ray 2, Kamasu, the Seiko 5 series (💛 my SPRD & they're very mod-able), those Citizen field watches are great, throw in a classic G-shock DW 5600. That's a whole collection of admittedly cheaper but still very high quality & respected watches. Very wearable also. You'd have a bit more leeway if something bad happened to any one of them. Plus its just fun to have more of something you like. Happy collecting, boss. Wear it/them well.
I owned the watch for a while last year. On a good leather strap, it’s stunning without a doubt. The steps on the sides of the case are amazing. My only downside is the dial color. I’m just not absolutely in love with the cream color. I wish it were a brighter white.
Have a look on the scvs013, which is also JDM model and even harder to find than tha sarb but if you want a white dial that looks like the sarb it's the best
I like your rationale on buying and its great that you're really enjoying the watch. The watch itself didn't sell me though. Maybe its better in person. This does bring up something I would like to see explored. An example, when I was a kid my dad wanted to buy me a Model 94 Winchester 22 for Christmas. The first time the Model 94 was offered in 22 caliber. They were going for about $94 dollars but he was cheap and we found one for $79 right before Christmas. Looking back we should have bought every one on the shelf. I still have it and it would probably bring a cool grand. So I get the feeling watches are like that. I've been watching old videos of the Seiko SNKs and everyone's talking about picking them up for $60 bucks. They're over $100 now on Amazon and the used ones are getting bid up to just under retail on Ebay. I don't know watches well enough to spot big winners that are going to be coveted even more on down the line, but I do know when people are passionate about something there are going to be those winners. (Wouldn't you have liked to have a dime in your pocket in 1962 when Spiderman #1 was on the rack?) Someone who's really in to watches though is going to be able to spot that.
Interesting point. I almost bought an extra SKX when they were discontinued but decided to save my money. Curious to see what their value will be further down the road
💯 Nice post. And "yes" about the dime. I had an old Winchester .22 youth rifle, model unknown (single shot bolt with a weird pull-out safety) that had sort of unorthodox sights - a V in the back and a dot in front. I was much more accustomed to blade/flat front/back sights. However, once you got used to putting the dot in the point of the V, you could cut thread with that little rifle. Shoot the wings off a fly, lol. Yes, I wish I still had it.
I've had this watch for about 2 years and I love it. If you want to restore that bezel on the cheap, get yourself some Cape Cod polishing cloths and use them on the bezel and case sides. They won't get rid of deep scratches, but a lot of those surface marks will disappear and the shine will be restored. Just mask off the brushed lugs first.
I’ve had my SARB 035 for about 10+ years and I bought mine used as well. Although It did have minor scratches but I polished it and it looks new. I replaced the sapphire crystal with a cyclops sapphire crystal and I replaced the bracelet with a jubilee bracelet from uncle seiko and now it’s amazing it looks like the Rolex Datejust.
I have the 033 and love it. The case design is unique and gorgeous. I always wear it on leather because of the large gap between the bracelet and the clasp. I did however hate the glare from the crystal so I changed it to a double domed sapphire crystal I am so very happy I did. Until I changed the crystal I had no idea the dial so beautiful. It has a glossy enamel look to it. Oh and one more thing is it is not black. The color is a deep deep dark brown. I liken the color to an oily fresh coffee bean. Gorgeous.
the scratched one's are now at 650... new at 900- 1100 . hope they hang up again at this model because 1000 $ is to much for a 350$ watch. same as the much rare SCVS013 price are skyrocketing and no real alternative in sign

I’ve had my SARB033 for going on 4 years now and really it doesn’t get as much wrist time as it deserves, but it’s one of those watches I’ll never sell. For the price I got it for new it is an amazing value and I’m amazed at what they are going for these days. I’ve also noticed the same thing about the bezel. I have a decent amount of wear and there’s no battling that. Still a great watch. I’ve been lucky on the bracelet. It fits me well because of the range I need it in I’ve never had a problem, but I realize how some have had the issue with only two micro adjusts. Everyone talks about how this is such a strap monster, but I think this is the biggest thing I’ve disagreed with yet. It just feels wrong off the bracelet for me. It seems like on every strap the watch actually wears smaller. It does look great on other straps in everyone else’s pictures, but for some reason not on my wrist.
I know what you mean about the bracelet, I think I love it on a NATO until I decide to give the bracelet another try and love it (until I can't stand the bad fit). I think I may have to look for an aftermarket bracelet to solve the problem
@@the1010watchclub Agreed. I have a SNK809, a SNKL23 and a SNXS73 and all of them have tiny crowns tucked in at 4 o'clock. I really like the look of the "hidden crown" on these, but it's not comfortable to set them even with my not big hands.
Got the same watch. I presumed that the only negatives you have were the uneven markings (too close) on the chapter ring at the 12oclock @ 2:01 in this video. The second 'negative' being the date's 'white' doesn't match the dial's 'white'. Wait a bit longer and you will find yourself looking at grand seikos. Abort!
Sharp eye! I didn't see that chapter ring detail. I'm sure I'll love a Grand Seiko when I can afford one but I'm still happy with the SARB. A cream-colored date wheel would be awesome though
Got mine new early 2019, for 350. The SARB035. It took me 2 months to appreciate it and like it for what it is. I really love that watch since then. The bracelet is a matter of luck, mine doesn't fit me well neither, It's a good looking bracelet but not as much as Uncle Seiko's options I think. Albeit, it's out of stock half of the time. Very good on leather too. The spring bars though, are weird. They're bent at the tips, it's supposedly stronger that way, but clearly, that wasn't my experience with it.
This was a really great video. Right now you can buy the 035 new for 418.00 on amazon. I just scooped me one up. Im sure they will sell out soon though.
One year later, in 2021, Citizen has released it’s SARB-killer, a highbeat automatic, polished 38mm, sapphire crystal in blue, black or white dials for under $500 USD (it is a JDM). Seiko needs to up its game to highbeat movements at much lower prices. Video here: ua-cam.com/video/kIKJbcSjE4U/v-deo.html
8 months later, now the sarb is running around $900 bucks. I have one i hardly wear because I hate the gap in the bracelet clasp and I really can't find a good comfortable strap so today I ordered a strapcode super jubilee hopefully this fixes my issue
@@the1010watchclub I put a strapcode jubilee on a turtle and I love that , my main concern is the super jubilee may be to chunky for the sarb but ill keep you posted.
Question: does your sarb035 take more than 20 winds before it starts? I tried manually winding it about 40 winds before it starts life again. Is the crown broken?
@@the1010watchclub hi thanks for the reply, yes it starts with a few shakes. Maybe its the break in periods. Today is fine with 10 winds instead of 40 lol
I had a question about the Seiko sarb033. I am interested in this watch for purchase, the condition is pristine with box and papers. The seller wants $530.00, so my question is if it’s worth it or should I wait for something else? This would be my first watch. Thank you for any feedback
It's a beautiful watch, but in my opinion $530 would be too much to spend on it. When they were brand new they cost under $400, and unfortunately their popularity has cause their used-market price to skyrocket. For your first watch, I would recommend the Seiko SNKL23, which looks very similar but is available for around $100.
@@the1010watchclub thank you for your reply! I’ve been looking extensively and they have gone way up. On eBay for a good condition without paperwork they are going for 450+! I just don’t think I can get a better deal than this for the pristine condition and 2 more years on warranty. I was also looking at the mido heritage since I like the smaller watches. Thank you!
Personally I don’t think it will continue to increase, at a certain point if it gets as expensive as a Grand Seiko for instance then people will probably just buy the Grand Seiko
This reply might be a bit too late, but I would highly recommend having a look at the Seiko 5 SNKL41. They have pretty similar looks, the same size but the SNKL41 will cost you about a 100 USD. Some people might get put off by the Hardlex crystal and the use of a 7S26 movement, but for me it's a beautiful watch that punches way above its weight 👌
If you need an excuse, the SARB is the only one with 100m WR 😀 ... it's just such a good all-around watch and if it's $305 usd new, they're almost giving it away

Not sure where you get your prices from but they go for way more than $300 her in the UK. Used prices are way over inflated its a joke. I would love a SARB033 but won't pay silly money for it. As an alternative I picked up a Hamilton 38mm Khaki Field Auto instead, mated with a Strap code Jubilee bracelet its a killer combo.
The prices are unfortunately still going up since they've been discontinued but there are still some used gems out there. Here's a link for an 035 on eBay in the US with the current bid at $240: ebay.us/JjVVCc and an 033 that's currently at $300: ebay.us/Uhn013. That Hamilton sounds awesome!

Thank you and glad you solved the problem! I was thinking of a clasp replacement but that might be opening a can of worms
@@the1010watchclub I think so too, they have some nice jubilee bracelets out there from 3rd parties, might get one next
“Bologna - pardon my language.” Ha ha. Well done. Great review
thanks for watching!
The SNXS77 doesn't hand wind so no real need for a bigger crown. Both very nice watches!
Fair point but even having to set it after the power reserve runs out is a pain
Thank you and congrats on the purchase! Let me know how you like the watch
Its sold out
I would've hoped to have found one in better condition than that one . 🥂 Found a SNXS77 new for $72 👀
At $300 it’s hard to find better condition on eBay. Great grab with the SNXS!
I have the SARB033, SARB035 and SARX035..thinking of getting another SARB035 as spare!
I mean there are worse ways to spend your money 😂
Agree with everything you said about this beauty!
Hahah exact the same watches I got, both the SNK and the SARB :)
Love the SARB, so versitile and timeless
The best!
Love this watch and the Seiko 5 snlk41J
For just $9.999.700 more, you can have the new Richard Mille RM 27-04 😉.
Haha tough choice! If you pull the trigger, send it in and I’ll do a comparison video
I have the sarb33...love it.
I have it too, but gonna sell it.
@@noctilucent7396 are you going to buy something else?
@@craig2100 not another watch, I own a casio g shock rangeman very happy with it.
@@noctilucent7396 great watch.
Definitely good looking!
Jan 20,2021 they are on amazon for $800 here in west coast of the USA when they used to be $425 :(
Woah! Huge spike. Another reason to find a nice used model 😀
Jan 21, 2021 $425 right now. New.
I've heard Uncle Seiko will be making sarb bracelet half links soon like they do for the BB58!
That is fantastic news!
Well...would you pay $500 used for these now? The price is much higher but they are stunning. Trying to find a good one.
Excellent presentation, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
8 months later, now the sarb is running around $900 bucks. I have one i hardly wear because I hate the gap in the bracelet clasp and I really can't find a good comfortable strap so today I ordered a strapcode super jubilee hopefully this fixes my issue
let me know how you like it! I was thinking of doing the same thing
@@the1010watchclub I put a strapcode jubilee on a turtle and I love that , my main concern is the super jubilee may be to chunky for the sarb but ill keep you posted.
@@the1010watchclub got the jubilee today it fits perfect and looks good most importantly its very comfortable.
@@jodysilvia2 great to hear! Thanks for the update
@@the1010watchclub i was wrong my wife said the bracelet is to chunky for the watch so I returned it.
For that price you can get one of those new microbrand pieces with quality, value and looks. With no scratches
True, but it's hard to find one as good looking
Great video, really well presented. Love the Seiko sarb 035 and would love to get on to review on my channel.

Question: does your sarb035 take more than 20 winds before it starts? I tried manually winding it about 40 winds before it starts life again. Is the crown broken?
Unfortunately that may be a sign that there's something wrong. Does it start quicker if you shake it instead on wind it?
@@the1010watchclub hi thanks for the reply, yes it starts with a few shakes. Maybe its the break in periods. Today is fine with 10 winds instead of 40 lol
It's currently $399 CAD on amazon Canada
That’s a steal, I’d buy two 😂
About £340 ish on Amazon Uk 🇬🇧
Deals everywhere except 🇺🇸!
Thank you!
Do you think value will keep increasing on the sarb033?
Personally I don’t think it will continue to increase, at a certain point if it gets as expensive as a Grand Seiko for instance then people will probably just buy the Grand Seiko
This reply might be a bit too late, but I would highly recommend having a look at the Seiko 5 SNKL41. They have pretty similar looks, the same size but the SNKL41 will cost you about a 100 USD. Some people might get put off by the Hardlex crystal and the use of a 7S26 movement, but for me it's a beautiful watch that punches way above its weight 👌
Lovely watch and still worth around £350, I couldn't find one so opted for the new creme 2020 alpinist and fitted a bracelet.
How are you liking the Alpinist?
It is still available on amazon for $425.
ha, I just got mine from Amazon. ^_^
Nice!
305 usd on Amazon Canada. I own a ssa231k1 and a sun and moon v3. Do I need a sarb035? 🤭
If you need an excuse, the SARB is the only one with 100m WR 😀 ... it's just such a good all-around watch and if it's $305 usd new, they're almost giving it away
...My SARB033 (6r15) runs 1+ sek. in 4 weeks :)
-Also shame on QC... Strapcode.. sent me a AJub. strap specially fitted for the -033(150$+) with several default (glips..)
Also including the one for another (specially fitted for the mod,) was default, what is going on with them....
But my SARB is running better than the rest, so either one is more or less lucky but it can be adjusted to the best
Sorry to hear about Strapcode, I've been debating their SARB strap myself. Unfortunately my specific watch ended up running about +13 sec so I will probably give regulating a try pretty soon.
@@the1010watchclub ...That sounds like a ¨good¨ eta 2824...(-2) that can run more or less good for some time, and then you will have to open it ;)
-But seriously no, if your 6r25 runs consistently +... (13) it can be one of the best ...
(It would be the best if they had proper AR, and also there should be a screw down Crown...But then it would be the best...also despite that it would have been even more perfect with a1.4mm case diam -I keep putting it on my wrist after no matter what I put on first & have on)
-Sorry for shitting on StrapC ,but I had to say it somewhere...
Cheers
@@the1010watchclub I wish the US prices were proportional to the UK. By the time I import things from the US to the UK the prices are the same, with import tax and higher post costs etc. PS I don't like scratched up watches either. The one you have looks like its had a hard life.
@@RichardsModellingAdventures Yeah the added costs are killer
Congratulations on being able to remove the bracelet. I stopped trying! 😂
Another weak point I would add (after several years of use) is low acuracy.

It is the best watch designed by Seiko. No Grand Seiko surpasses it in design, it is the watch with the best value for money. It is an icon, a jewel, it is the assassin of the Rolex date just. His problem is the bracelet, which I changed immediately, everything else is perfect.

Don't complain about the micro adjustment. Pay a few grand for a Grand Seiko, guess what? You don't even get a single micro adjustment! :)
