The Sarb033 was the first watch I bought that wasn't a fashion watch. I bought it in 2018 for $500 after they got discontinued and I think I wore it almost everyday for a year straight! I loved it so much that I bought the Sarb035 earlier this year. Phenomenal time pieces.
I've been using a Seiko wristwatch gifted to me for my university graduation nearly a decade ago, and it still keeps on going. Their quality is superb.
Can confirm! I've had mine two years, and the quality is fantastic. You can put it on just about any strap, and it looks great! Metal, leather, NATO, perlon, that makes it a super versatile piece.
Good video. Congrats on getting one at a decent price. Got mine back in early 2020 when it was still easy to get. Paid $300 (+ tax) and for that price I believe it is totally worth it. It has such classic, quiet sophistication and it definitely is my most elegant watch. Once the price began to shoot up I got so nervous about wearing it and scratching it. But, I forced myself to get over that and added it back into the rotation after year of inactive duty. It has now become my vacation watch. I've seen a few UA-camrs talk about "building memories with it" and liked that idea. The Sarb was an alternative for a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39mm, which I had wanted several years. My search at local ADs always ended up in dry holes. I finally ended it in late 2019 after learning about the Sarb. A coworker managed to get his hands on an OP 39. Frankly, I like my Sarb more. After seeing them side-by-side, the Sarb is much more handsome. I know I'm in the small minority that thinks that.
Bought a SARB033 and a 035 for my wife to start her watch collection. She wears them a bit lose like a bracelet. She loves them and surprisingly gets plenty of complements.
I just bought my first watch two weeks ago and after months of research, I had to pick the Seiko SARB033. I paid over retail since it was new, but I have zero regrets and absolutely love it. I think it’s going to be hard to find a better second watch for the same price point.
even at US$1000. I still think this watch is undervalued. Grand Seiko is basically 30% better than a SARB033. but SARB cost WAYY less than 30% of a GS.. I put this side by side to my Cartier Santos (which cost $7.5k). SARB can still hold up
There’s not really a comparable 38mm sporty dress watch with 100m of water resistance under $1000. Especially with a date wheel. The Sarb is pretty much it and it’s a great option. I’d still recommend it for someone looking for that combination of features even up to a few thousand dollars.
At $1,000 you're starting to overpay for what you get with othe options out there. The movement is not accurate (I know some people can live with this), and I've had 6Rs die within 5-7 years. The black dial can be a fine everyday wear, but let's be rational, in mint condition about $500-$600 is a reasonable price.
@@brett2396 This is a fair point. Seiko had this market segment potentially locked down, and instead of going from JDM to global distribution, they messed it up.
The SARB is so good it makes you question whether it's worth paying an extra 0 for Swiss watches. Truth is it was a absolute steal when it was sub $500. Even at today's prices it's still value piece.
Lucian Diaconescu Oh yeah 44mm can be massive on a 6” wrist. My wrist is 6.75” and 41” is the largest case size that works for me although I *do* own a Seiko Samurai (44mm but the lug-to-lug size is short enough).
If you love the design but don't want/need automatic movements or can't find this new for a reasonable price, check out the Seiko sur309 & sur311. It's a quartz watch with sapphire crystal for around 140$. The overall quality not equal to the sarb but it's pretty good for the price. The dial design is very similar. It's 40mm vs the 38mm on the sarb but it won't be a huge difference on most wrist sizes
I had a question about the Seiko sarb033. I am interested in this watch for purchase, the condition is pristine with box and papers. The seller wants $530.00, so my question is if it’s worth it or should I wait for something else? This would be my first watch. Thank you for any feedback.
I would jump on that if you can! Definitely worth it in my opinion. I bought one in late 2019 and love it. Love it so much that I've been trying to get another one. Prices have definitely gone through the roof. I paid 450 for mine back then and was willing to pay 850 for one on ebay but lost it. I'll keep searching. If the one you're looking at is a later model it will have the 6r15d movement. Which if I understand it correctly is slightly better than the 6r15c movement. Good luck if you go for it and enjoy!
@@wikster6630 thank you! I actually did get it and it’s new! I have not worn it. I got a steal on a 035 for $350 in pristine condition, but the wife wanted to keep it LOL at least is in the family. Cheers.
I have both the 033 and the 035. I have to say I love them both but I think I wear the 035 a little more because of the cream dial. It is a little “dressier” in my opinion and works better with a business casual attire.
I bought this watch few years ago for about 300$ (new). It is beautiful watch, I love it. In this price it was an excellent choice. However giving 1500$ for this watch is insane. I also have Longines Spirit which cost about 2000$. These watches are not in same league at all. Accuracy- Longines make about 0,5 seconds per day, Seiko 10-20seconds. Quality, used materials, finishing is much better in Longines. Seiko is worth 500-600$ but not any more.
I have had the Seiko Sarb033 since early 2016. Cost me $425 or so after paying import tax etc. I imported it from Japan. In the last 6 years its been one of my best looking watches. I don't think I will ever sell it. Its beautiful and very high quality.
Wow i am amazed of the price range you put. In my country indonesia, I bought a new sarb033 in the beginning of this year for around 350 usd. Nowadays i can still find 2nd hand for the same price in local e commerce forum. Honestly, if it is more than 500 usd, I'd recommend finding sarx055 or sarx057 or other sarx series, as it is higher tier than sarb and can till be found if you look hard enough
This watch (and the 035) are classics but also messed Seiko up a lot. I feel like Seiko probably felt we could not stop selling this watch soon enough. Because it truly showed you what they could do for the price. Even during the time I got mine (2015) all the way to current watches, they always have either hollow endlinks or if not that, stamped clasp, no sapphire crystal, or a 4R movement and none are for under $300, then or now.
Got myne for 440 on Amazon in early 2019, while i don’t use it much (Apple Watch) it’s an amazing watch! After purchasing it, i don’t feel like i need another “dress watch”
Cool vid. I was tempted to get the SARB035 but I felt annoyed about the price rise so left it for now, sticking with my Tudor Black Bay. Does the job for a one watch collection.
Wow I bought this watch for $330 on Amazon in 2015. I was searching for it a week ago and surprised the watch is selling for $800+. It is a really great watch with build quality that is way above its price. Lucky that I got one when it was still available back then.
I bought 4 off amazon for $405 each 5 months ago as I own the 33 and 35 giving them out to my nephews and nieces this Christmas so I watched the rest of your vid I have a 7.5 inch wrist get completed all the time. Great vid.
The 035 looks especially good on leather. I keep my 033 on stainless and the 035 on leathers from black, to burgundy, to any shade of brown. It looks really great on lighter shades of brown.
This (Sarb035) watch was my second mechanical watch after a Seiko 5 I bought just a week before (SNXJ89). So I think of this as my first good mechanical. I love this watch and if it was my only watch, I would be fine with that. I purchased in 2015 for $293. This is the only reason I have a hard time wrapping my head around the $800 plus price tag.
Sure you can. There’s still not another 38mm watch with this combination of features for under $1000. Most other options are too big, have lower water resistance, are way more casual or worse finishing. I’d pay up to $600 on the used market for one.
Amazing content as always! Minimalistic quality like Matt D`avella Maybe you can make a video on watch straps? I have super skinny wrists (14cm ___or___ 5`5inch) and most straps (and watches) look better on big wrists
I got mine new around 3 years ago..it's was under 400 bucks brand new! Its a legendary watch..it's defo a baby grand. I don't think I'd trade it for a Rolex-a special watch for any collection.
Question: If you buy a Sarb on the grey market, could you be buying an old watch, as in a new watch that has been in storage for years? And if so, would that affect its performance?
Watch has not been manufactured in some time. Look at serial number if its start with a 9 its manufactured in 2019 which i believe was the last production run for this watch. Just let it run in should be okey mine keep time withing a few secs per day almost COSC. Otherwise its cheap to service a Seiko and you can do it via Ebay or known repairers online.

What was this replaced with? Also, a great alternative to this would be a snk809j1. The Japanese (J) ones offer great quality for $89, and come on a decent bracelet in my opinion as well. Also, amazon has it listed as the K/Malaysian model, but I received the Japanese made one. Really great watch.
Great watch. I got lucky and got it at $336.99 NIB before it was discontinued. As a Seiko fanboy, I bought it on a whim, and glad I did. At 38mm, it's a bit small for my 7.6 inch wrist, but I wear it as a "dress watch" so it works well.
Dear sir , if we open this watch , it is written on the inside of the case " made in china " . So , it is not made entirely in Japan , though the quality is awesome . Chinese are experts at watch making also . This proves that . Cheers
Can't believe the price of these now. I managed to snag a new one a little over a year ago for $380. Such a versatile watch. I have mine on a Barton elite silicone strap and love it.
Fantastic watch, a classic that has transcended its "value proposition" label. Heck you could get the Rolex Explorer 1016 for a 100 dollars back in the days..
Another great pick but you just made it even harder to find. lol. :) With watches like this why is anyone buying crap like mvmt. Another favourite is from Timex, the Document. It’s a tad too big for my wrist but it’s quite nice.
I love this watch on so many levels! This would be my 1st one as an adult. Hoping to enjoy it as my "one watch" for many years. Can you guys help me understand the current market for a preowned one on Ebay? Want to make an offer and see the Buy It Nows are about $600.
I like the SARB a lot! Just got my Seiko SNKL41K (white dial, 37mm) and I love it! If you are looking for a similar watch even cheaper in prize and still offering a lot of quality, this is definitely another example to take into account.
Seiko has always played in the mid range, high end and even "luxury" end in Japan, as well as quite a few East Asian countries. It has had trouble breaking into the western market, but the success of Grand Seiko has prompted them to push hard on international expansion. Part of this has been re-aligning their "tiers", a key part of this has been pushing their 6Rxx equipped ranges as mid-range alternatives to swiss watches at the same price. The SARB line is an unfortunate victim as it snuck in at a very low price for the movement - especially from "grey market" sellers in the west. Rather than raise its price, Seiko has chosen to axe it. However, they have also been "resurrecting" popular SARB models in the presage line, albeit at higher prices. The alpinist is back, and there are plenty of models that can be considered "successors" to the 033 (the "Sharp Edged" models for example). But again, they are much more expensive now.
Good watch and review... but "excellent accuracy"?! This movement is off by 7-10 sec/day in my SARX045. Great *value*, but excellence isn't relative to price.
Had one. Got bored of it after a few months. The crystal gets smudged really easily, the bracelet doesn't fit properly and the movement is hit or miss (my 6R15D was running anywhere between plus 22 seconds to minus 12 seconds a day!). A great entry level watch but not one for me.
I think why I don't like this watch is because I'm an active guy and the luxury face just doesn't work for me and I find it to thick 11.2mm but if you enjoy it I'm not going to stop you.
please reissue this. stop the price gouge in the used market - there is clearly demand for this watch. I'm seeing this on buyitnow for $1000 (good condition), poor condition it's around $600. Not worth it at this price.

Great watch. I got lucky and got it at $336.99 NIB before it was discontinued. As a Seiko fanboy, I bought it on a whim, and glad I did. At 38mm, it's a bit small for my 7.6 inch wrist, but I wear it as a "dress watch" so it works well.
38mm isn't small for a 7.6 inch wrist. It just means that you're wearing watches that are too big.
Dear sir , if we open this watch , it is written on the inside of the case " made in china " . So , it is not made entirely in Japan , though the quality is awesome . Chinese are experts at watch making also . This proves that . Cheers
I'm honestly surprised at that range of $800-$1500? I bought mine for just $300 just over a year ago. I guess that's a steal?
Not sure where he’s getting that price from, maybe brand new? Used it’s between $500-$700 which it’s still worth it to me.
Looking Good but in Srilanka everything expensive!! Thanks Man👍
@ 0:09 id say it represents what people love about watches in general.
Can't believe the price of these now. I managed to snag a new one a little over a year ago for $380. Such a versatile watch. I have mine on a Barton elite silicone strap and love it.
Looked excellent on the mesh bracelet
Fantastic watch, a classic that has transcended its "value proposition" label. Heck you could get the Rolex Explorer 1016 for a 100 dollars back in the days..
390$ 5 months ago in amazon i just missed the deal
Another great pick but you just made it even harder to find. lol. :)
With watches like this why is anyone buying crap like mvmt.
Easy wearing, classy.
Just bought one 2 weeks ago for 400€. Well, used but just for a few months
i have the variant with the jubilee bracelet and is my dress watch for all formal events
really nice video brock, but that pricing is WAY OFF readily available at around 500 dollars....
Where?
It's true that you can find it *listed* for $500, but I haven't seen it in stock and actually selling for that price in a while :(
Just got my brand new 035 from amazon prime deals
How much?
@@suhaybbhatti6563 CAD$450
@@misterman1371 amazing price well done!
@@suhaybbhatti6563 for sure, very lucky
Turns out the reason I can't buy it is not because it is discontinued but because the watch is $800 - $1,500......
this review will blow up your channel
I'm waiting patiently 😏
I don't understand, watchrecon shows this watch at 400 bucks, two days after the video. Where is the $800 level coming from?
If you can find it for $400 that's a great deal right now!
Ebay.
@@stanm299 Ebay isn't a lesser channel, is it?
Beautiful watch
This is my daily watch bought it about 3 years ago
As alternative go for SUR311P1 (40mm quarz)
Good watch and review... but "excellent accuracy"?! This movement is off by 7-10 sec/day in my SARX045. Great *value*, but excellence isn't relative to price.
I just wear an ironman since one saved me a broken wrist from the boom of my catamaran 20y ago..
Bought a new SARB035 for $400 off Amazon 2 years ago and hearing that they jumped up THAT much in price . . . I feel like I stole it.
Still think it's an amazing watch even for $500 or whatever they are. Not much new in that price that beats it.
the power reserve is just over 40hr not 50
Had one. Got bored of it after a few months. The crystal gets smudged really easily, the bracelet doesn't fit properly and the movement is hit or miss (my 6R15D was running anywhere between plus 22 seconds to minus 12 seconds a day!).
A great entry level watch but not one for me.
Can't find it on AMAZON. fyi
Selling mine I wore once for 700 obo
Bought it for $600 aud,now they go for $1000 plus. Tbh they are kind of overpriced for what it offers.
Hold up... Are your eyes green? Are they natural?
The dial is not matt black, but dark brown !!!!!
There's a brown version, but this one is black.
Too small. I think the SARY057 is a far better watch.
You are looking on eBay. This watch can be found other places, even eBay sometimes, for $500-$700 in good condition. Definitely still worth it.
Lol I'm trying to get rid of mine, there's just better watches out there
Tanner Parsons Which ones and at what price range? You should be able to get rid of your SARB033 fairly easily.
@@eyeheartsushi2212 well the watches I would go with are hamilton khaki field auto, Junghans max bill 041/4562.00 and bulova accutron spaceview which I got for 551.00 cad$, I don't know what to sell it at because sadly I lost the box
Tanner Parsons People are not gonna worry too much about a Seiko box when it comes to buying the SARB033. Just search eBay and look for “sold” listings to get an idea.
The Max Bill and Accutron are watches I’d like to try on my wrist someday. Especially the Max Bill.
800 is overpriced
9minite add, don't waste time unless you're into seiko
