the great thing about this watch is the super-classic, very tasteful, perfect design. I think I might even prefer it if there was no date on there, but everything is so nicely executed (apart from the strap of course lol). The sizing, the piano black dial, the gorgeously-shaped case, the sword hands, the simple-yet-beautiful indices, the chapter ring, the cool fonts and the sweet applied logo - everything is so restrained and balanced. It is just a very good looking, traditional, dressy sports watch. That's why we love it - there aren't many watches that look this greatd. Especially at this price. I think you have to start spending Rolex or Grand Seiko money to get something this cool.
Wore my SARB035 yesterday. Still love it. Managed to pick one up brand new in July 2020 for £380. I remember being so nervous about spending that much as I was very new to the hobby and it was my most expensive watch to date. Glad I didn’t regret it. Mad to think how much I’ve spent since! 🤦♂️
I got one brand new in 2016 for £170 - no idea how I got it at that price!! It's a great watch! Got it on my wrist right now and holds it's own alongside much more expensive pieces
I am deep into the hobby with several high end swiss time pieces and these SARBs will never leave my collection. Theyve always had that magical x factor to them. So versatile, so classy, Seiko at it's prime....ugh I could go on and on. These for sure will be absolute classics in 20 years much like some of the highly sought after vintage seikomatics.
Seiko hit a grand slam with the SARB033 and SARB035. The 62GS case design is the other Seiko case design that I think is so naturally and effortlessly pleasing. Thanks for the pleasant throwback!
Hello Mon Ami! Fantastic video, thanks for sharing this comparison video. Not too many vids avail showing both colors. I was able to get my hands on these two, and just like you I purchased both. In fact haven’t even worn them yet, still have them with the wrappers on. All I can say (even without wearing them yet) is that I love the look, size and feel of the watch. Love everything about the SARB line. The lines, curves, case and little details. Always had larger timepieces and these are my first 38mm. I really enjoy your channel, thanks for all the great content.
I have 3 dial versions of this and I absolutely love them. The design is so amazing and unfortunately many failed to realize it until they stopped making them.
I had the black and the white, sold the black to put the funds towards other watches. One of very few I regret letting go, but will never sell the white dial. Amazing watches.
Picked up a Sarb033 back in 2018, 6 years late, honestly looks and feels x10 what it cost! Also, prices of these have shot up since being discontinued. Future classic for sure!
Acquired the Sarb035 when it was around $3 ish and recently decided to purchase the 033 used around $5 ish as it truly is now a cult classic. It just feels and looks of quality. It really has the "IYKYK" factor and "wink, wink" features I enjoy. Prices continue to increase and won't let up.
Now 2024 and I'm stilll here staring at mine its an amazing watch worth so much more than it costs and find that I wear it over watches I own that cost many £s more. It makes me realise I may have been bit silly buying Rolex, Tudor and Omega for what they cost. Worn on a simple black leather strap it's very classy and one I'd choose to wear with a nice black suit over a sub. As design goes the case is simply stunning. Never seen it look as good online as it does in the metal
their design is still unmatched. Not even grand seiko.. That diamond second hand, the font, the use of negative space in the dial, the case proportion. They're perfect/ This is the best watch Seiko corp has ever released. Grand seikos always have something missing in terms of design proportion.. And if you're dealing with a watch this minimal.. the little things makes all the difference
Great video. So glad I picked these up when I did (May 2020) after watching TGV's videos. It's hard to believe I paid $300 brand new. They are still my favorite two watches in my small collection. After prices skyrocketed I began to get a little worried about wearing it and scratching it. But, those concerns passed over time and I began wearing them again. Of the two, the 033 takes 1st place, but the 035 is a close 2nd place. The 035 is my only white dial watch, so there is something special about it.
Just sold my SARB035 to fund an SBDC051. Bought the SARB in 2019 for $385 and sold it for $600. Got the 051 which was originally about $1000 when released in 2017 for about $500. SARB went up because of undue hype (seriously get a SARX they are miles better) and 051 went down because of the release of SBDC101 (even though the 051 has better finishing). The watch game. Gotta love it.
Not only matched, but easily surpassed by the Citizen NB1050. Way better specs, sameish design and case size for around 450 bucks. But the SARB used to represent incredible value. We will never get the same from Seiko. Nowadays they are asking 1k+ for watches with the sameish specs.
Here we go again... There's a reason the SARB is so desired, and that's the design, especially the proportions of the dial and case. That Citizen looks nowhere near as good (to me, and many). The same thing happens with the SARX models. I had bought many of them, including some of the best ones (033, 017, 045), and while they have superior finishing and specs, they simply don't look as good and elegant as my SARB035 does on a BOR bracelet or brown leather strap. I really wanted to like them but I ended up selling all of them.
@@jmclivaudais3291 your opinion. I'd say otherwise. They are pretty similar to my eyes, but I think Citizen is even more beautiful. The case finishing, polishing etc is certainly superior.
Seiko would be wise to bring these back. They'd never put a 6R movement in it now but throw a 4R in there, give it a better bracelet, and charge $650. They would sell tons of them. If San Martin can deliver great specs, high quality, and still turn a profit with a $300 watch then there's no reason Seiko can't do the same with their economies of scale.
Citizen NB1050-59s are much higher quality and cheaper JDM alternatives to those SARBs. They look pretty much like a Grand Seiko SBGX261 with an Oyster Perpetual 126000 style sunburst dials and baton hands. If you are patient then you should be able to find one in Japan for less than ¥48k (I got mine for roughly ¥45k).
I know these are a bit overpriced at the moment. But still, I think they would probably be close, if not even past £500 today if they were still being made. Anyway, I am at the moment taking with a bloke who has a 035 for sale. I alao love the 033 a lot. And I will probably buy that one too eventually, and then I might even plunder down the whole nine yards and go full Liam Neeson after the lucid 037 as well.
Tons of value for money, but to me they look too generic, like there's nothing really eye-catching to me personally. This is the problem I also have with GS, in spite of being very intricate up-close with great attention to detail under a loupe, they look like a run of the mill soulless watch from afar, especially if I spend thousands. With Seiko at least they're not expensive.
They are far surpassed at the prices they are selling for nowadays. For those prices you can get urushi dials, lacquer dials, snowflake dials, titanium cases, better movements, better bracelets. And that's just from Seiko alone. If you look at other makers, it get worse. Don't get me wrong, I love the design of these 2 (three actually, the pink is probably the prettiest), but 1000 bucks for a used piece. They are crazy.
Have to disagree. These are very badly designed watches. It’s a dress diver hybrid, and sucks at being either one. Too bulky, clunky, and thick for a dress watch and too dressy, poorly lumed, and insufficient water resistance for a diver. Plus Seiko movements are the worst in the industry. Please stop hyping up this garbage watch. Downvoted. There are MANY better options than this junk
Interesting response. It is the Swiss army knife conundrum. You have what is a notable design that does many things not so well. The Citizen 1050 is a better resolution, of a similar problem that need never exist, and is readily obtainable today jdm at an affordable price. Also I enjoy seeing emojis in responses as you can be sure the correspondent is an imbecile instead just thinking it.

I wear a sarb035 with a leather strap daily. When I bored, I try different styles and colors. It is like brand new every time I swap them
I had the black and the white, sold the black to put the funds towards other watches. One of very few I regret letting go, but will never sell the white dial. Amazing watches.
Amazing watches. I bought the 35 in 2015. My first nice automatic watch.
Lovely classics and you did well to pick up both dial colours. Nice shout out to TGV too -- his video productions are still excellent.
