+Automotive Mike, Hmmm I don't know about that. I think it's all roundabouts. Turbo charging was big in the 80s and during that time, everyone used to say the same thing. Even the Ferrari F40 was turbocharged. But with new engine technology coming along with improved efficiency, power, and emissions - check out the amazing work Mazda and Honda are doing with naturally aspirated engines - you'll probably find manufacturers will revert back to naturally aspirated again. Just give it time.

Hammer Rocks won't happen, they will first go to hybrid, then to full electric.
In the case of Ferrari, they could even jump the hybrid phase altogether

DON'T DO IT!!!..........you need to keep the 458 Speciale because as much I love the new 488 Pista, it will never replace the N/A 458 Speciale V8. In 10 years the 458 Speciale will be coveted far more then the Pista. You will regret it.........what you need to do is get the F12 tdf to go along with the Speciale

it doesn't matter if it is N/A when the propose off the car is to going fast on one track, i think he should trade 488 pista is going to be game changer on track with that arrow, power and handling, and he already has in order one 812

There is a video of him swapping for winter tyres (and back), last year.

They're not even allowed on most European countries' roads.
That's not true, at all. Even winter tyres (without the metal) are not compulsory. If they had metal spikes, I doubt you'd be allowed on the road as they'll damage the road surface.
Snow is quite rare here, so it's simply not necessary.
Definitely keep the Speciale! Plant your foot and you'll find 9,000 Italians singing behind you telling you why 👌♥️

Kigoz4Life Nope. The 458 speciale :) once you drive one you understand what he is talking about. There’s just the experience of the sound mixed with the way the car performs , combined with the aesthetics of the car, not to mention it being naturally aspirated. It’s absolute craftsmanship by the greatest car brand in history.
Keep it ! From what I see, you love drama in cars, I don't think the pista will be as good. Buy it if you can, you'll sell it for more if it is not as good
Pista is like a GT2RS and speciale is like a GT3RS each special in their own way but not better than the other
Keep the 458 Speciale because in my opinion is the best modern Ferrari ever built and also it's a good long term invesment the value of this car will only go up.

Keep 458. You hit it on the head. The 488 Pisto will be special right now but a 458 will always be special.
Simple answer to your question, wait till you've driven the Pista before you start this thinking process. Don't be like Salomondrin who dismisses a new Ferrari without a real world reason to do so because of a childish and ridiculous Ferrari shaped chip on his shoulder. Don't judge a car on paper, they are not driven on paper.

Ilias G1 All of his points are absolutely shoddy. I mean he owns 3 of the best current supercars yet he only brags about how amazing they are without even driving them. Alejandro is just a huge nobody in the car world really- while schmee and james get invited to film the mclaren senna or the 812 superfast alejandro gets invited to do a truck review....by the dealership wich is selling it.

maybe you forgot that he owned several ferrari's. Ferrari just lost the engine sound with the 488 gtb and the 488 gtb an probably the pista aint as fast as the 720s with little price difference they have. on the other hand the 812 does sound great and fulfills its purpose where it is designed for.
IMO, You absolutely nailed the whole Ferrari sprinkle dust analogy JWW. Part of why they can charge marginally more against their competitors. When it comes to sound, the Italians have it figured out.

I think you are spot on with your thought process on this and thankfully you are one person who buys his cars to drive and are not all about resale as a lot of UA-camrs are. I personally think you answered your own question, if the Pista is more exciting and sounds good, it will be worth it, if it doesn’t then it isn’t, it’s that simple. Also, I understand the changing of your cars gets viewers excited and therefore maybe worth doing but in all honesty, for me the content and production quality has taken your channel beyond the normal and the cars are only a part of what you do well so hopefully I am not alone in saying, whatever you decide the channel will always be incredible 👍🇮🇪

Of course not. The 488 pista will just be one in a long list of "special turbocharged Ferraris" whereas the 458 speciale will become an icon for sure. Imo, would be a bad move from an investment or "smiles per gallon" perspective. Don't think that you need to be convinced tho! As always, great vid mate!

Another tip to not miss a video on your subs; Don't have your subscriptions feed in grid view. Change it back to the old list view. Then the videos are listed 1 after the other down the page as it used to be, before youtube decided they wanted to change grid view to the default. Of course ding the bell aswell!

Long time watcher first time commenter. I’ve been lucky enough to have owned many super cars and nothing compares to the magic of a naturally aspirated Ferrari. The emotional magic dust is inexplicable. I will keep my 458 with sport cats and exhaust without question. You MUST keep the Speciale JWW. Keep the great content coming.

I nearly "pista" my pants when I first saw the Ferrari 488 Pista. :) To me the Pista is the best looking 458/488 model to date.
Driving your car in the snow instead of making it a garage queen, that's why this is such a great channel.
I think the Pista looks absolutely incredible but I'd keep the Spéciale purely because of that engine!
Naturally aspirated is great for noise and linear power acceleration but I love my 650S coupe as it is exciting in a different way. I have full faith in Ferrari to make the 488 Pista a great drivers car. Let’s face it, they made the 458 Speciale!

I’ve been in both and honestly, 458 any day of the week. No V8 beats that naturally aspirated sound of the 458. It’s heaven. The car is so classy too, definitely going to own one some day

I believe that the new 488 Pista will not give you the smiles per gallon that the Speciale do.... you know... every single time you do a video with the Speciale we can see how happy you are with this machine... so don't swap it... you will regret. Absolutely I agree with you, the feel and emotion are far, far more important than the numbers. Being lucky enough to drive a 599 GTO and a 458 Speciale, the feel those cars give is far more important than their ultimate performance. Its about theatre, there is only so much you can use on the road. For me the 458 Speciale is just incredible.

You're absolutely right about the smiles per gallon thing. I'm actually planning on reducing my GT's power, when getting my new engine, simply because the car has become too capable for public roads. Sometimes less power means more fun and more theatre!

Oh, I’m certain that Ferrari has made an absolutely incredible driver’s car with the Pista. That’s their thing, right? That’s what Ferrari does best: make amazing cars that feel so bloody good to drive, and give the driver an emotional experience that they can’t explain. The Pista will knock it out of the park, guaranteed.
Keep the Speciale, though, she’s a keeper. And on my hopes for this years Geneva? Mate, I don’t even know how to answer that, really. I’m hilariously excited for essentially everything there. Geneva is like, the Comic Con of car shows; just an absolutely incredible experience all around.

James, totally agree about the emotion of the drive, after driving a 488 I am keeping my 458 Spider, NA all the way apart from my M2 Manual that doesn’t sound that turbo charged👍
Stick a custom exhaust on your 458 and you'll forget any other car exists
Anyone mechanically modifying a 458 Speciale needs their head examining. It would negatively affect any future resale value.
