this generation of top gear seems to have finally found it's unique voice. Chris Harris when he's being himself is brilliant.
he is best when talking in his own language i.e not scripted by the BBC Top Gear writers. Best car man on the web by a mile IMO.
Chris Harris...the last honest man in car tv.
Clarckson is brutally honest and funny. Harris is so boring I almost fell a sleep by the end of this video. When you run out of melatonin pills, just watch a Chris Harris youtube video.
r8malooman Top Gear was never a program about cars, that is the problem. That is why is so boring nowadays.
@@3px0 Wut. Top Gear was always about cars, the very essence of the show is the car and motoring. It may not have been what people liked most about the show, but was definitely the focus.
@@3px0 Clarkson is an entertainer first and Cris is a race car driver first. So your point is moot.
Have to applaud Chris for giving his honest opinion instead of just going with this is the latest and fastest so it must be the best car that you see so often. Keep up the good work 👍.
Weekend443845 exactly! This is what the community lacks, more honesty! Chris, thank you!
Chris is just the best out there at the moment
Even James May said he's the best automotive journalist (outside of the trio, who are more entertainment these days.)
@@gwcrispi He didn't say that... but he did praise him.
I would watch Chris Harris solo Top Gear. Hes at the level of the old trio!
Netflix, give Chris Harris a god damn job!
Chris is also middle aged -- the GT boys are a bit past that, for the most part. But yes -- Chris needs the same opportunity.
Harris and Guy and Catchpole. That's a trio befitting and better arguably than the current trio.
He seems nice enough guy and knows his stuff, but he's never going to be entertaining. Netflix is the entertainment business. You can see he's trying to make an effort. The show is dead in the water and it will never have the same ratings and audience it once had. They should have scrapped Top Gear and created entirely different car show.
James May: “Chris Harris is one of my favorite car journalists”
Chris Harris: “James May owns a 458 Speciale so I’m gonna devalue it”
Interesting to hear the levels of knowledge. One man bigging up the electronic software package... the other pointing out that it’s purchased from a 3rd party and could be in any car.
@@rickd8979 Exactly! The point Chris is making flew right over his head 😉.
It’s an oversimplification though - its like saying i built a PC with an intel processor, and the software that runs on it could all be the same because its powered by Intel - its a silly thing to say really.
It's as simple as Chris mentioned. Mostly companies like Bosch or Continental develop and calibrate the software for the OEMs.
@Real M 😂 Baha. No. To an extent you can make any car your own, but you buy a car that will speak to you with its own personality. Not something you wanna make yourself. You want it to be versatile sure but at the end of the day, you still want a package. Ferrari is arguably in the game. Not ahead. I am with Harris and co on this one.
God I love Chris Harris. He could make a video about a 2 CV and it would be interesting.
Oh yeah.... he did!!
I loved it when he did the 2CV. Just his pure unadulterated glee when he was driving it at its limits
the 430 Scuderia is an amazing car! Especially in red
'Scu-der-e-a in red, is driving with me, cheek to seat.
No-body here, it's just you and me, where i wanna be..
I hardly knoooow, this beauty i'm sittin in..
i'll never forget the way you look tonight...' (sniff)
Esmo I agree with you. Still, I think I’d go for the Speciale instead, kinda prefer the look of it!
Chris is spot on . . . as usual! The Lotus Elise is hard to beat for fun driving.
Even though we love Chris Harris, we have to admit that even he contradicts himself and changes his opinion to not follow trends. Example: he says the 720s is perfect in other videos, all the car you need. Then says the Pista is too powerful.
A few years ago he wouldnt even mention a Scud in the same sentence as a Speciale (go look at his first review), now that everyone likes the Speciale, he prefers the Scud.
I love Chris Harris by the way. Been a fan for 6-7 years👍🏽
ua-cam.com/video/tYDY-1RAFrk/v-deo.html
His first review of the Scud here 13 years ago seems the same as it does today
Love that the gas lid is popped in the B Roll! @0:46
Amazing to see an honest, intelligent and knowledgeable conversation about the motor industry. Finally some talent on Top Gear!
Chris is so on point here its crazy to see in a program that airs on TV. It feels as if he just walked on set one day just to put everyone straight, love it! Such a legend! He's right, its gone insane, but no wonder, the world is insane and shallow and its all about thrills and who had the fanciest dinner this evening.
This was an awesome little segment! Highly love and respect both presenters, their work and opinions!
This is why Chris was banned from driving Ferraris for years. He wrote a column on Jalopnik talking about how Ferrari would demand to know which tracks the car would be tested on so they could send engineers along beforehand and adjust the setup to suit, sometimes sending 2 cars: one for the track test segment and one for the 0-60 & drag race tests, both tuned to suit each test. One of the cars Ferrari sent glued its tyres to the rollers when being dyno tested because they put racing tyres on it disguised to look like the standard P Zeros or whatever. Every magazine let's them do this, otherwise you don't get to test Ferraris. A lot of 360 modena owners were annoyed when the car provided for a review was 2 seconds quicker to 100mph than a customer car. In Chris' own words: “It’s gotten out of control; to the point that it will soon be pointless believing anything you read about its cars through the usual channels, because the only way you get access is playing by its rules.”
He did get to drive a 458 during his ban though - apparently Clarkson lent him his press car for a day, its on UA-cam.
Article for those interested - jalopnik.com/how-ferrari-spins-5760248
Yes. Those who drove the yellow press 458 now know it was halfway to being a a 458 Challenge underneath. But here’s an important point, I’ve also heard other journalists point out that while the press Ferrari’s were surely customized, they’ve driven plenty of customer cars and really the experience was equally fantastic. So it seems that while the numbers may not be trustworthy, the experience is still fantastic.
Joshua Thiel Magazines should just stop reciewing Ferraris then. They have dozens of other cars to test, so it is not a big loss.
Ferrari would be much worse off, if no one would review their cars if they are cheating.
@@alexbelmonte4581 True, in the article Chris wonders why they felt the need to put sticky tyres on a Scuderia, since its already incredibly fast and a very good car. Seems Ferrari with their race pedigree and heritage feel they NEED to be faster than the comparable Lambos and McLarens, or else their brand would lose its prestige. I imagine a lot of Ferrari owners like to feel smug that they have the "best" car and if Ferraris start getting beaten in tests by other brands, they're worried the image of the brand would be damaged and those customers will go elsewhere.
When is Chris Harris coming back to the Joe Rogan podcast !
@@KRBY555 Yeah but he isn't the one being asked.
Plus nothing beats a Joe Rogan podcast.
I can listen to Chris Harris talk his mind for hours, he’s so damn good.
I agree, the Scud is a special car that gets overlooked.
They’re not ‘overlooked’ they’re overpriced in the resale market, compared to a 458.
"I'm not saying Ferrari cheated", wink wink, yeah I am. LOL 😂
He should talk about how McLaren almost got banned from F1 for stealing Ferrari’s data...🤫
Ferrari has a great tradition with building sport cars and motorsport. And they have an even bigger tradition with giving the press tinkered cars :=)
@@gcscr once again the Great British people are too proud to admit any wrong doing.
that's exactly right.. the world is crazy for speed. Speed that you can NOT use on the road. useless
Oh wow. Chris Harris keeping it real and good.
I'd love to hear Chris Harris' thoughts on Gordon Murray's new T.50 supercar. It looks and sounds AMAZING.
The fan suction concept is interesting... Imagine downforce which is ALWAYS there even at low speed. Must be a crazy feeling.
Chris is the best, keep up the content, we’ll be watching
Just a really great conversation from awesome car enthusiasts!
More like this (as long as it doesn’t get in the way of the driving vids!). Frank, honest and interesting discussion about the cars and the industry.
Chris Harris and his brutal honesty is everything we need on a car show..
Electronicly stabilized and track prepped ferraris chasing lap time leaderboards is what no one really needs. Add a gearstick and 3 seconds to a lap time and were all infinitely more interested.
Great commentary by Chris Harris!!!
Really licking the discussion, doesn't sound scripted and has some actual debating with differing opinions :)
Chris Harris .... what a breath of fresh air!
Love his work .... the passion.
Great to see one of my fav motoring journalists insult the other :-D
I love this man, he clearly knows his craft and he very well knows that the driving experience is always better than any fancy stuff the car can offer, music in my ears to listen to that in this era of bonkers HP and crazy computers with forgiving driving assists.
This was an amazing video.
Chris Harris is the only reason I still watch this show. He’s a true car guy! Great job! Really like the honesty
Really love this guys honesty! 🍻🍻🍻👌
Very insightful.
Yes! He choose the Scuderia. Drove it once and it is my favorite car.
Chris Harris is my favorite tester these days. Outstanding driver and he gives us his straightforward, frank opinions. Interesting to hear that Ferrari is still playing the game of controlling test results. I remember in the 70's, 80's and 90's Ferrari would show up at Car and Driver (and the other magazines as well) with engineers and multiple cars, each one set up for a different part of the test, whereas Porsche sends one car and it just does what Porsches do! Really enjoyed this little conversation guys!
Chris Harris is one of the best on camera talents! He is just brilliant and so knowledgeable, on top of being an exceptional driver/racer/auto journalist. He’s the gear head you want to sit and have a beer with after a day of driving great cars!
My man! Love hearing him talk about cars, sit next to cars, driving the hell out of cars, basically anything to do with Chris Harris I'd watch. BTW, I bought my M2 because of his review of it. It totally sold me and I of course, have not been disappointed.
Uh oh -- at about 4:00, Chris starts accidentally advocating for the MX-5. :D
Lol. He couldn’t bring himself to mention the MX5 of course, so he mentioned the Lotus instead!
As a rewatch this again after ages, I love the little "mhmm" that Chris does at 3:10, showing that he's not only a good speaker but also a good listener. An ability that's becoming a bit rare these days.
Okay guys make more of this please
Because, I was in High School at the time of the Challenge Stradale that’s the one that calls my attention. But, I really do wonder how awesome of a car it really would be now a days?
That exhaust design on the 600LT, I am sold.
Just love to hear this man talking!!
Hmm after watching this, I think all you need if you're buying a new sports car is the cayman GT4 (as long as the exhaust sounds good) because anything more is too powerful to use. Maybe the 570s/600LT is the max.
Harpreet06 Exactly! The cayman GT4 is the perfect amount of power
And fun, nothing more is needed really...
toyota/subaru 86.. alfa 4c.. (sometimes lotus) those slower cars are the funnest cars; to me
If there is someone who could bring Top Gear to level up with the grand tour, Chris Harris is the one :)
Love hearing Chris Harris’s proper honest opionions
love the shot at james may at the end
Totally agree with Chris, cars going forward are about the emotion of driving and how the car makes you feel..most of my collection are last NA’s with manual gearboxes or at least NA’s😎
Exceeding well done Mr Harris. Feel is king.
I agree with pretty much everything he says. Ill take an aperta or a speciale tho. They sounds insane ( the scud too)
i'm just thinking about mclaren's exhaust when its raining :D can it be fill with water ?
Jack should get more screen time with Chris! It is amazing to see two knowledgeable car guys having a real conversation, more of this please!
And as he said in the beginning, the Gt2 RS just is the best for everything. Incredibly fast and still got every day use capabilities ! Just gotta love the Gt2RS also for its simplicity and brilliant handling.
This good bloke, pub talk. Love it
That’s quite a flip from less than a decade ago when the 12c had adjectives said about it that very much mimic what Chris said about the Pista.
Thanks Chris now I have to watch every review of the 430 Scuderia on youtube again...
Chris Harris is so much more knowledgeable than anyone is in the room but so easy to listen too 👍
I love the scuderia. Always had a soft spot for that car
Chris is just the best. I died laughing when he roasted James May!
That Challenge Stradale though!!!!
Strong opinions! I love it 🤩
Could listen to Chris talk about cars all day. Wish we had a podcast/news video that was just Chris Harris discussing different car topics with other car guys.
Another 25 minutes longer,top gear👍🏻
Christopher Wibberley time flies with good content, I think I could listed to chris for an hour and think just five mintues went by
Oh man that Challenge Stradale! Well to each his own..
I really enjoy Chris Harris also. Great bloke, I guess that's how they say it in the UK.
"Must devalue it if Jimmy's got one" - hah, good one.
800 LT will be one hell of a beast!
More of these!
We’ve been down this rabbit hole. Had this conversation at work about car nowadays are way too crazy in terms of horsepower. And this electric age is going to throw us into another universe. Yes, bring back lower horsepower cars
More of these two together!
Chris just got properly pissed with Ferrari AGAIN for using technicians to do a Production Car lap time, and he's right about it!
Basically every single car company does that, I mean they even have the GT2 RS MR right now which is perfectly set up for the Nordschleife.
If you have ever been to a racing event by Ferrari you actually would know that the customers that actually track their cars get the services of the “technicians” as well.
The funny thing is that the people saying Ferrari can’t build fast cars always tell you the press cars are 2 seconds faster than the customer car which is basically a antithesis as they tell you the guys that can’t build fast cars sent Mario and Luigi and all of a sudden the “slow” car is doing lap records.
@@dimitariliyanov3680 The P1 was nothing like a 488. It was a development car and they were all sold already. A more apt comparison would be the one Chris does in this video, which is the GT2RS that was just dropped off with no further thought by Porsche.
I wish I got to driver these cars so I could FEEL what they're talking about.
Well, I think the true competitor to the 488 Pista will be the LT variant of the McLaren 720S.
the_ enthusiast That’s what I tought the moment they started comparing them. At the end, the Pista has 110hp more than a 600LT, so not a fair battle in my opinion
Totally agree completely
Chris you are so honest! Pero' kemm int qasir
Chris is the best, deserves this platform
Love the Lambo style rims on the 600LT
I could listen to Chris Harris talk about cars all day. Brilliant presenter.
He took a swipe at James May even though May watches Harris’s car reviews
if this is what top gear is like now im fully on board with this show now
So glad he was honest and didn’t act fanboy
There are a few really good car journalists. And then there is Chris Harris.
Chris Harris on cars! Doesn't get much better then this!
The 430 scuderia is brilliant, i find that the design is timeless, doesn't seem as old as it is, and i love that about it
Yes Chris you are so right! “We need another Lotus Elise moment“!
Yep Agreed, Alpine, for example, should be applauded for going down the light weight route rather than chasing top trumps numbers. I'd love to see what Ferrari could do if they put there mind to it.
Christiano Dörnatore I completely agree but the problem is, 95% of people who can afford these supercars, are showoffs who just want to tell their mates how much HP they have. They are never going to drive them properly so simply won’t get excited about the wonder that is driving a super lite, mid powered car. Power will continue to rise until there’s a ban IMO.
Proper car show now.
Where can I watch the actual test?
i wonder if chris knows there is a company doing manual conversions for the scuderias.
Good chat 👍
But Challenge Stradale for me one of only a few Ferrari’s that do it for me
Netflix need to fund “Chris Harris on Cars”
More likes to this
Guy Dudley True! That would be awesome!
Well said!!!
Let's make this happen
You guys can't be serious. Are you underaged or did you not watch the netflix show "Fastest car"? They would find a way to make things even worse which is a big achievement because doing a worse job than Top Gear is pretty much impossible.
