One of the most underrated Parkway Drive songs, in fact this entire album is underrated as fuck, i remember in 2012 when it came out everyone at my school (who liked the band) was disappointed with it and thought it was garbage apart from one or two tracks but it is actually a really good metalcore album.
Because they are still in school. The best music tends to be less catchy and more complex. The more they mature as metal enthusiasts they will come to appreciate the epicness of this album
They certainly changed quite a bit, so it's probably one reason for them to dislike it. I personally think that PWD kept their music fairly consistent and still beautiful to this day. I prefer Atlas and KWAS over their newest record, but they nonetheless have made it into a piece of high art.
I still think after all those years, that Atlas is the finest album PD ever produced. I wasn't dissappointed with IRE or with Rev, they are good albums, different. But i can't describe what they lack, "magic" is the only word coming to my mind. U know, in 7 years i have listened many bands, artists, like 300 genres and this album is still fresh after 10 years. After all years, i still feel the same while listening Atlas. But today not on shitty Sony headphones, but on Planars. And even when i gone to genres like Ambient, or experimental electronic, from time to time im sinking in river, or in ocean with this album. I forgotted almost every metalcore band, but Parkway Drive? I will never forget. Never.

I just got done listening every single Parkway Drive song from Killing with a Smile to Atlas and i must say, the progression and differentials are amazing. From the first song of Killing with a Smile to the last song of Atlas is unbelievable. How they can integrate beauty and brutality is amazing. The Rapid Brutality of Killing with a smile, the Rhythmic genius of Horizons, the unique sound of Deep Blue, and the beauty of Atlas. it's amazing to see what PWD has evolved into.
Seriously, I can understand why people love this band. Their music is just so amazing and the screams are so powerful. Plus the added trumpets and pianos work perfectly. And I thought that I See Stars' "Digital Renegade" was the best album of 2012 (since all the other albums released on that year sucked), but I was so wrong. Parkway Drive's "Atlas" won my heart for best album of 2012 by far! Keep writing amazing music, you guys! :'D
Woah dude, yes, Parkway is amazing, but I see Stars can just not compete. Like Parkway rules them by a landslide. And not all the other albums that year sucked, just do a little more exploring.
Mason Graham I have! There's actually a lot of albums from 2012 that I like (feel free to laugh at what albums I like) such as Make Me Famous' "It's Now Or Never", Skip The Foreplay's "Nightlife", Stick To Your Guns' "Diamond", Bury Tomorrow's "The Union Of Crowns", and Eskimo Callboy's "Bury Me In Vegas". None of them I like more than PWD's "Atlas", but I still like them nonetheless. And there have been a lot of bad shit that came out in 2012 such as Abandon All Ships, Attack Attack!, For All Those Sleeping, Woe Is Me, and Capture The Crown. Just my opinion though, feel free to disagree!
After all these years of listening to many songs, from many bands, from every genre of metal,I am absolutely sure this is my one true favourite song and it will never be replaced.
"We both keep our secrets, we're both oh so blue, my heart is full of darkness, I know that yours is too." How can somethings so beautifully written sound so brutal, with that being said, love it
man i was in australia for about a year and i also stood exactly on that place where this photo was taken. its on the greact ocean road in the south/east of australia. the landscape there is just a thing of beauty. and so is their music
Each and every time I hear "Cold sea" and the solo kicking in, I get shivers, it's just amazing how the melody and the voice match so well, and the lyrics, all together makes an awesome and very emotional song to listen, one of my favorite songs by Parkway
There's a thing called aging, and it becomes harder and harder to produce music like this. They have moved onto a more mainstream style for sure, but that doesn't mean there dead. Even tho I am an old pd fan, I still love their new stuff, and so do many others
Edit almost 7 years later: After all those years i'm still thinking this album is in one of the best albums in metal genre overall. And this track is still my fav of PD. I don't know why, but Atlas(album) is so different, like how many albums came out like this? U can listen Architects, even Bring me the Horizon, but there are few bands who reached this "magic", like TOOL for exapmle. Nowdays, most of the new bands are dogshit, playing 00000001000000 with electronic theme, because they cant play it with guitars. It's too hard for them. And ofc im not talking about Architects, they are really good. But yeah, this is the finest album, and in my opinion finest track PD has ever produced.
Beautiful song. I've listened to Parkway Drive for 10 years or more now. Not once have they let me down. That song was sick as fuck and a perfect ending to an amazing album.
After seeing this being played live, the passion in this song became so evident. Winston puts his heart into all of their songs, but the emotion when he sang this was just incredible.
My interpretation of the lyrics: *Dear sky* *Dear sky don't cry for me, be the hope I could never reach* *Cold sea, please don't let me sink* *Wrap your arms around me and carry me home.* Initially, this man (let's consider he's Winston himself) is sitting on the top of a cliff, overseeing the sea and the sky. He is very sad and depressed with all the pain and suffering he has caused to his loved ones and other fellow persons, and is tormented by this guilt, which is burning him from the inside. He knows, there's no turning back now, that he has to face the consequences for his past doings. Repenting and brooding over won't relieve him. So, wiping away his tears, he cries to nature: "Oh mother, please take me away from here. I am just a burden to you and everyone around me. People suffer because of me, I don't want them to suffer anymore. So please carry me away from here, to a place of complete solitude, to ...*HOME* (pointing towards the sky). *I stood at the shore and spoke to the ocean* *I stood in the water and let my guts spill* *I said "You and me, we're not so different, I see my reflection in all that you do"* Winston, here is talking to his dark side, to the darkness inside him which has made him hollow from the inside. He screamed and screamed, cursing his evil mind which has led him to be the person he is today. No matter what good he did, it turned out to hurt others (so in a way his' and the devil's actions were the same). *We both keep our secrets* *We're both, oh so blue* *My heart is full of darkness* *I know that yours is too* This is yet another one of his conversations with his dark side, he says his evil mind has affected every part of his body, and even made his heart impure. *I sat on the rooftop and screamed at the sky* *I sat on the edge until I knew deep inside* *Like the sky, I will always be empty* *The horizon, my love, forever just out of reach* Winston says that this guilt has eaten him from the inside, he feels like he can never go back home (to the Almighty), and he will have to be answerable for each wrong he has done. The last line *The horizon, my love, forever just out of reach* is a metaphor of his relationship with God (both God and the horizon being infinite), even though he can see Him, he can never be with him. *We both keep our secrets * *We're both, oh so blue* *My heart is full of darkness * *I know that yours is too * *Distance was born when the sea and the sky grew apart* *Loneliness was born the day I let you go * *I let you go* Winston regrets destroying his relationship with his friends and loved ones. He is now completely alone, and has no one to care for him. Now he doesn't have anything, except for this huge pile of guilt!! He compares this relationship with the sea and the sky. The sea and the sky carry each another's reflection, one cannot live without the other. *So now I stand at the shore and speak to the ocean* *I stand in the water and let my guts spill* He's confessing everything, including all his dark secrets to the Almighty, in a final attempt to ask for forgiveness, although he knows very well that his doings are unforgivable. *We both keep our secrets * *We're both, oh so blue* *My heart is full of darkness * *I know that yours is too * *Dear sky* *Dear sky don't cry for me, be the hope I could never reach* *Cold sea, please don't let me sink* *Wrap your arms around me and carry me home.* *Dear sky......* With hands folded, pleading for God's forgiveness, he jumps into the sea. *THE END*
I just don't understand how people can compare albums to albums for a band. The band has already produced "Horizons", do people want to have "Horizons 2.0"? A band progresses through their music and evolves as musicians for their own sake, NOT for the fans. I'm just glad Parkway Drive keeps doing what they love and still keeping it real. We've got Horizons and we're grateful but damn, people are so narrow minded they actually won't see the talent this band put to this album.
The trumpets really hooked me. It reminds me a big boat floating in a grey sea surrounded by fog. An enigmatic song. And deep... I mean, because it is a good work I can listen to it repeatedly and never get hassled, like what happen with a superficial one that I think I like at first... It ´s one of my favorites. One more of them. Responder
How have I never heard of this band??!!! This song came up while listening to my Lamb of God Station. I was so drawn to it that I had to know more about this band. Today I have listened to Atlas twice and as of today I have a new love. For those of you who know all of their albums..rank them for me. What should I listen to next. I am hungry for more.
Ranking them is a difficult one, but Killing With a Smile Horizons Deep Blue IRE Reverence Killing with a smile was their second release but their first actual album, this is where they get labeled as a metalcore band as there's a lot of early 2000s metalcorey riffs in there but the album is different to any other metalcore album out there, tracks to listen to would be Pandora, gimme a D (really awesome track) Mutiny, it's hard to speak without a tongue, romance is dead and smoke em if you've got em. Horizons is a solid metal album through and through, it's hard to not love every track off that album, plus the title track will blow you away, breaking point, five months, frostbite, idols and and anchors and sirens song are other stand out track for me but like I say the whole album is SOLID. Deep Blue is a bit of a concept album, the lyrics tell a story through each song, the opening track sets the tone of the album and it goes from there. Different vibe and sound to Horizons the production sounds a lot more natural, once again there's a lot of stand out tracks on there (Sleepwalker, Wreckage, Deadweight, Alone, Deliver Me, Karma, Home is for the heartless, Leviathan I) IRE once again a totally different vibe production wise, different guitar tones and production on the drums, a lot of new and different styles of songwriting so it might take a couple of listens to dig if you like the older stuff, overlooked by most but easily one of their best albums. Stand out tracks would be Destroyer, Vice Grip, Fractures, Vicious, Dying to Believe and A Deathless Song. Reverence is their latest release, not one track on this album sounds the same, completely different from their old stuff but they have the chemistry to keep that parkway drive vibe going. Really good album tracks to listen to would be Wishing Wells (easily one of my favourites) absolute power, cemetery bloom, the void and Chronos.
Imo their whole discography doesn't disappoint, if you like atlas you'll love the rest of their stuff in time. So many different styles and sounds they'll blow you away. Hope this helped.
"We both keep our secrets... I know yours is too" that part is fucking awesome, along with the loneliness was born the day i let you go. So good, and then the rift that follows it... Sweet shit
love parkway....seen them in myrtle..at h.o.b ....rock the fn roof off the place man,,,,,i kept the pit going with a few others even thought they tried to stop us....yeah right!!!!!! long live metal!!!!
Best PWD song ever. And I've been with them since "Dont Close Your Eyes". With Most bands in an album you like a couple songs, then there are the meh songs that you can listen to and then there are a few yoi dislike period. With PWD, every single album is filled top to bottom with great and amazing songs with only a few meh ones here and there that you can still listen to but most definitely not any dis likeable songs. And while I still like and appreciate the growth, maturity, and artistry of IRE and Reverence, Horizons, Deep Blue, and Atlas are their best albums with almost virtually no bad songs. Blue and the Grey is still my all time favorite especially off of Atlas but if I had to pick one from each album it'd be "don't close your eyes" tie between "romance is dead" and "anasassis" "siren's song" and "idols and anchors" "deliver me" which is second overall albums and "karma" this and "dark days" "vice grip" and "into the dark " and "chronos and "shadow boxing". Lastly if I absolutely HAD to choose my favorite album start to finish I'd have to say "deep blue "
If you undersand and relate to this song, youll understand why its so special. Made me cry the first time i really listened, its a point where Im at in my life right now... After being all over the world, meeting new people and going through certain personal experiences... Its exactly how i feel. Best fucking song ever.
it's a couple of songs from every record, but you can really tell that they are searching for the right setlist cause yeah it's the first tour since Atlas. but you're gonna love it! I had a great time and like always, PWD are on fire!
this is the reason I love PWD so much... they have energy in their songs, but also can make ballads with amazing lyrics... I'm definitely gonna buy this album :3

Literally the greatest song in metal ever written.
This is so awesome. Imagine having a tattoo with part of the lyrics on it.
garrett mccalla a friend of me got one with: We both keep our secrets...
I’ve got some for Home Is For The Heartless
My interpretation of the lyrics:
*Dear sky*
*Dear sky don't cry for me, be the hope I could never reach*
*Cold sea, please don't let me sink*
*Wrap your arms around me and carry me home.*
Initially, this man (let's consider he's Winston himself) is sitting on the top of a cliff, overseeing the sea and the sky.
*I stood at the shore and spoke to the ocean*
*I stood in the water and let my guts spill*
*I said "You and me, we're not so different, I see my reflection in all that you do"*
Winston, here is talking to his dark side, to the darkness inside him which has made him hollow from the inside. He screamed and screamed, cursing his evil mind which has led him to be the person he is today. No matter what good he did, it turned out to hurt others (so in a way his' and the devil's actions were the same).
*We both keep our secrets*
*We're both, oh so blue*
*My heart is full of darkness*
*I know that yours is too*
This is yet another one of his conversations with his dark side, he says his evil mind has affected every part of his body, and even made his heart impure.
*I sat on the rooftop and screamed at the sky*
*I sat on the edge until I knew deep inside*
*Like the sky, I will always be empty*
*The horizon, my love, forever just out of reach*
Winston says that this guilt has eaten him from the inside, he feels like he can never go back home (to the Almighty), and he will have to be answerable for each wrong he has done. The last line *The horizon, my love, forever just out of reach* is a metaphor of his relationship with God (both God and the horizon being infinite), even though he can see Him, he can never be with him.
*We both keep our secrets
*
*We're both, oh so blue*
*My heart is full of darkness
*
*I know that yours is too
*
*Distance was born when the sea and the sky grew apart*
*Loneliness was born the day I let you go
*
*I let you go*
Winston regrets destroying his relationship with his friends and loved ones. He is now completely alone, and has no one to care for him. Now he doesn't have anything, except for this huge pile of guilt!!
He compares this relationship with the sea and the sky. The sea and the sky carry each another's reflection, one cannot live without the other.
*So now I stand at the shore and speak to the ocean*
*I stand in the water and let my guts spill*
He's confessing everything, including all his dark secrets to the Almighty, in a final attempt to ask for forgiveness, although he knows very well that his doings are unforgivable.
*We both keep our secrets
*
*We're both, oh so blue*
*My heart is full of darkness
*
*I know that yours is too
*
*Dear sky*
*Dear sky don't cry for me, be the hope I could never reach*
*Cold sea, please don't let me sink*
*Wrap your arms around me and carry me home.*
*Dear sky......*
With hands folded, pleading for God's forgiveness, he jumps into the sea.
*THE END*
The river and this are the 2 greatest achievements of Atlas !
Such a long time since I've listened to this album, this track has to be the greatest one out of it.
cannot stop hearing it for a week !
We've got Horizons and we're grateful but damn, people are so narrow minded they actually won't see the talent this band put to this album.
i have an internal disease where my insides deteriorate. relate with this song on sp many levels! THANK YOU for this song so much
Steven Fitzgerald hope your alright.
hy man, hope doing well right now
Great guitar solo at the end
This is the best song on Atlas. Perfect acoustic intro, perfect song structure, perfect build-up and perfect ending.

I could feel every song they've ever done coming together in this song.
BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM. BEST ALBUM EVER CREATED. Thank you Parkway Drive!
THE RIVER AND THIS SONG BOTH NEED A MUSIC VIDEO. A.S.A.P. I NEED TO SEE THAT SHIT!
I wish they would, For me, it would be a one-way ticket on the feels train.
+Broderick Morgan agreed Bro
I wish they did. My 2 favorite songs off this album from the first listen
2:21 O-0 that build up brings shivers...so awesome to go back and listen to
How have I never heard of this band??!!! This song came up while listening to my Lamb of God Station. I was so drawn to it that I had to know more about this band. Today I have listened to Atlas twice and as of today I have a new love.
For those of you who know all of their albums..rank them for me. What should I listen to next. I am hungry for more.
Ranking them is a difficult one, but
Killing With a Smile
Horizons
Deep Blue
IRE
Reverence
Killing with a smile was their second release but their first actual album, this is where they get labeled as a metalcore band as there's a lot of early 2000s metalcorey riffs in there but the album is different to any other metalcore album out there, tracks to listen to would be Pandora, gimme a D (really awesome track) Mutiny, it's hard to speak without a tongue, romance is dead and smoke em if you've got em.
Different vibe and sound to Horizons the production sounds a lot more natural, once again there's a lot of stand out tracks on there (Sleepwalker, Wreckage, Deadweight, Alone, Deliver Me, Karma, Home is for the heartless, Leviathan I)
IRE once again a totally different vibe production wise, different guitar tones and production on the drums, a lot of new and different styles of songwriting so it might take a couple of listens to dig if you like the older stuff, overlooked by most but easily one of their best albums.
This song is so fucking amazing on so many different levels
Masterpiece..
The most amazingly beautiful song a lot of people will never hear.
this band never ceases to amaze me.
I found it! I already found my favorite Parkway Drive album! Screw it if the 2 next albums are better this is definitley top God tier for me.
Horizon my love
My fave part
"We both keep our secrets... I know yours is too" that part is fucking awesome, along with the loneliness was born the day i let you go. So good, and then the rift that follows it... Sweet shit
Brutal song, brutal lyrics, brutal voices.
No matter what you listen to how can you intro not give you goosebumps
this song is absolutely brilliant ! can't stop playing this.
love parkway....seen them in myrtle..at h.o.b ....rock the fn roof off the place man,,,,,i kept the pit going with a few others even thought they tried to stop us....yeah right!!!!!! long live metal!!!!
Parkway Drive redefined metalcore with this album. Plain and simple, this record is flawless.
My favorite PWD song, this lyrics carry me through very hard moments in my life, such a powerfull song, this thing break me down every single time.
Together with the river this is the best parkway drive song!!
Dear sky, dear sky don't cry for me
Be the hope, I could never reach
One of the best song of Parkway Drive... anyway. i dont know how they are doing this, but every signle album is amazing. JUST AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGG
3:16, the sheer power of Winston's voice and that breakdown punched me in the face and knocked me off my chair.
My favorite song. I typically hate bands newer songs but Parkway Drive never disappoints
Never knew how awesome a song would sound with an acoustic guitar in a metal song until now.
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
it's a couple of songs from every record, but you can really tell that they are searching for the right setlist cause yeah it's the first tour since Atlas. but you're gonna love it! I had a great time and like always, PWD are on fire!
Hands down the best PKWYDR song ever, not only are the lyrics written amazingly, but the jam is just jammin ;) haha
Way too many letters mate! I would say PWD? But yeah it's definitely an amazing song!
Parkway drive just gimme another album like atlas. Perfect balance of old and new parkway drive.
This album means so much in my life 🖤
Thank you for the goosebumps. Wish you would come to Iowa...
Forever my all-time Fav.

Just beautiful. Reminds me of the Sea.
i'm totally in love .3
the song that will always remember me, the day my greatest ex broke up with me… DAMN the same month, the same year… Absolutely amazing !
Absolutely amazing...beautiful.
Greatest band ever. Hall of Famers most definitely.
This song caps the album so sweetly.
You know Epitaph Records are a good record company when they post their bands songs and full albums at that
My fave metal band
this is the reason I love PWD so much... they have energy in their songs, but also can make ballads with amazing lyrics... I'm definitely gonna buy this album :3
C'est, un Chef d'oeuvre.!!!!!!!!!!!!
definitely one of my favorite songs by them
That breakdown is powerful, the depth of Winstons screams are fucking insane

Chills down my spine.. Every single time.
my best atlas album song, they perfectly mixed melodic tunes and bass, then came out perfectly. Im gonna get the album, cause its awesome!
I just had my heart ripped out over untrue true love and this song means more to me in this moment than my name. A peace in the violence.
