Thank you for covering this book. Jerry has come at this from a different angle at times,so that’s to be applauded. One of more bizarre recent revelations, was that Ritchie asked Glenn Hughes to join the last incarnation of Rainbow. Knowing that R.B didn’t approve of Glenn’s “funky business”. Glenn had worked with Joe Lynn Turner and had played some songs from that era.. Maybe you could cover the Hughes/Turner albums at some point?
This is the kind of book that every avid book reader should have in his or her personal library. Personally, I bought or read books like THE HISTORY OF ROCK MUSIC and THE BOY LOOKED AT JOHNNY back in the 1980s. Apart from learning new facts about my favorite rock bands, it helped me to greatly improve my English language vocabulary. It helped me greatly when I worked as a teacher. And Phil, if Iam the education minister of UK, I will make books like this Rainbow gem part of the English language syllabus in schools !
Excellent review Phil. My trainspotter subject too....all things Ritchie Blackmore! That looks like a fantastic book. I have several Purple and Rainbow-related books, but this one looks even better than those. The new photos and news clippings, etc that I haven't seen before, look fascinating. A stunning and an absolute must have. In fact I have just ordered a copy just now thru Wymer. Looking forward to getting it and spending lots of time with it.
Thanks for the review Phil. I've got a few of the Wymer visual biographies for whatever reason I wasnt aware this was in the pipeline but after watching your review its arrived this morning and I'd have to say it is one of the best. 💯👍
I remember when I was a freshman in high school I had a copy of 2112. And this guy I knew had a copy of rising we traded albums and fell in love with rainbow right there went on to yngvie later then rhapsody adagio fairyland those bands carry the torch for neo classical music
Looks like it’s in on my shopping list.I noticed a newspaper clip early in the book of a short lived Aussie super group Khavas Jute(2.30)of which Bob Daisley was a member. They realeased one cracking album in 1971? which featured clean melodic twin lead guitars and for me Bob’s most dynamic bass playing.Very early Wishbone Ash sounding. One of my favourite early Aussie lps.
Hi Phil, I've read a lot of Jerry's books,They are all well researched and written. Wymer hard-back Rock books are top-notch,but I generally wait for the paperback.( A year or so later; usually under a different title.) Much less expensive, considering the exchange to Canadian dollars. I highly recommend Martin Popoff's Sensitive To Light- July,2020. It's a wonderful ,comprehensive, Rainbow bio. Enjoy your Summer !
Thanks for the presentation! I bough it right after watching and gave it a read, it was really wonderful :-) I only would have liked to know more about why certain members left (or had to leave) the band (especially David Stone or Bob Daisley). Also I was surprised that the book didn't contain the story about Tony Carey and the lyrics of "L.A. Connection". But I really enjoyed all the new stuff that I learned about Rainbow, so I can just agree with you :-)
Thanks for the review Phil. I wasn't aware of it till now. Looks fantastic. Do I want this on my bookcase? Oh yes indeed. I've just ordered it. Cheers mate. 😊👍🤘
I’m only really into the Dio era of Rainbow. I also don’t have the room for this🤣 Great video though, glad I’ve seen at least some of this with interest. All the best Phil
Do a special on your current and old stereo equipment. I used to have a NAD stereo with big brother speakers. But over the years ive had to downsize. I never was a big JLT fan.
Phil did you ever get to see "Rainbow" with Ronnie James Dio? And if you did, did they have the giant rainbow stage set up? I’ve got to see them in 1978 with Ronnie without the rainbow, but Richie did destroy his guitar.
Martins books are awesome i think i have 20 amazing. Yes they're expensive with postage etc, he signs them but have to admit some from Amazon can't always afford as a pensioner lol Aged 65 lol Love to get lost in these books
Thanks for sharing. Awesome book! Blackmore rules forever!
*RITCHIE BLACKMORE..!!*
Mi gran guitarrista favorito.

The book reviews are something I didn’t know we had missed until we got them. Adds another great layer to the channel.

Nice review. I got "In The Shadow Of The Wizard - Rainbow 1975 to 1976" when it was first released and this looks like a great companion

My copy will arrive next Saturday, Amazon lowered the price so it was an offer I could not refuse.
Gary, just to let you know you ordered Visions of Rainbow, which is a different book to the one Phil reviews.
Thanks Jerry, I see that now. I will look for the visual bio .

Jerry is a deep purple fanatic and also behind Wymer Publishing who you can find online. Phil
