Writing this video SUCKED! I locked myself into breaking down the story with the other videos and it really bit me in the ass here. The game is so story and dialog heavy! I simply do not have 2+ hours of ideas for interesting/funny cutscene edits in me for a GBA game that's mostly voiceless pixels beeping at eachother, but I tried my damnedest!
So now that you're done with the MMBN 6 review, I'm going to go ahead and complain and moan on why you haven't done another game. hehe.. but in all seriousness, I would love to see a Boktai and Boktai 2 review on your channel. I love the way you explain things and go through each moment. at some point later on. obviously don't over extend yourself.
Undernet entrance in battle network 1: prove your strength and skill and no regular navis Undernet entrance in battle network 6: just pass this gate all navis welcome
KNIJohn finally writing the final review for Battle Network, only to be horrified as he realizes that now he has to do reviews for Star Force as well to fulfill the prophecy.
@@FectoElfilin He can just play Star Force 2 DX to cut down on the encounter rate and use a map for the Bermuda Maze and it'll be a lot more tolerable.
@@FectoElfilin I-Is SF2 bad? I can understand BN4 but I remember loving SF2. That's it though, I only remember loving SF2. I remember very little about any of these games as it's been over 10 years since I played any of them.
@@animeking1357 Encounter Rate was too high like in every 5 steps. Also, back in the day when this game was release, it pretty much requires buying stuff for Wave Command Input to make the most of the game as well as unlocking DX Bosses. Also cards that are introduced exclusively for this game (neither different reincarnation of 1's card nor the one introduced from first game) were terrible, especially real time summoning cards. The main reason, those cards have a cooldown, making it annoying to chain attacks when you need to spam A to execute (as card charging with A button was introduced for this game).
So a small thing I really like about this game. When Lan has his nightmare in class Mr Mach takes the time to make sure Lan is okay. Yes, Mach gives Lan detention but I appreciate the fact Mach's first priority is to make sure Lan is okay. Helps show that despite being a WWW operator he really cares for his students
Regardless the choice of Cybeasts, they both have an almost karmic fitting in Megaman's beast out. If you chose Gregar, Megaman essentialy controls Gospel 1.0, a very ironic power for the hero that fought so many world-destroying viruses to save the world with the power of one, but if you chose Falzar, it's also fitting that we will save the world with the power meant to do so that got derailed, almost like Megaman is redeeming Falzar and by proxy, Cain and his grandfather by adding the final piece to his program: a soul.
I find it also rather ironic but for a different reason. When you stop and look at it. Gregar is essentially what humanity has been seeking for so long...he's a true born A.I. Gregar isn't made by anyone like every other boss in the game. Duo was made my aliens and nebula while supposedly the soul was technically extracted and made by nebula and all other bosses are made in a similar vein. Gregar is a true A.I. one that does doesn't think or has any pre made instructions from anyone else. So to an extent gregar can represent true life on the net and megaman by utilizing that power is truly harnessing the power of the net here. Meanwhile with Falzar it's the representation of what a true virus is. Falzar is being made by humans but due to an error in the coding falzar went haywire. In other words Falzar is incomplete much like real viruses, that are incomplete and considered semi living creatures because they need outside help to function. Additionally many viruses for computers can be summed up as one of two things, intentionally made malicious or wrongly programmed code. Falzar is made with the latter but since gregar is also a living being it can also be scene as the latter. Since falzar seeks to end gregar one could also say it represents a form of death, as is the case with many victims of viruses and such. So when megaman uses them he either harnesses the natural life of the net or the death mankind brings to it.
At 1:53:50 this is the part where the villains realize they are 3 grown adults and Lan is a 12 year old boy that they can just punch the lights out, and it was not included in the video. I feel betrayed.
20:41 yes, you can actually train fish and sharks for feeding purposes using sound and signs. That gives each kind of fish a chance to feed so they dont end up eating each other. Sound also travels better in water than in air due to it’s density. Funny I had to explain this earlier today at work (Mote Aquarium) XD
Fun fact! Killerman was actually named after the Killereye viruses, and has a bunch of said viruses in his design as well as having their main attack basically being his battle chip.
Crazy how it took 6 games for Capcom to give us an antagonist that's actually more than just cartoonishly evil. Unfortunately he's surrounded by a literal clown girl, a lawyer that lives in a society and I forget who elementman's operator is supposed to be.
One theory I've always had is that the consequences of Cybeasts Gregar and Flazar wrecking havoc on the early stages of the internet causing Alpha itself to freak out and start malfunctioning. The mass explosion of data deletion, rampant digital bug errors, and death of countless early security Navis due to the Cybeasts could have easily set Alpha into an over corrective state and set it off, which in turn leads into Bass' backstory as he was blamed for this strange phenomenon caused by Alpha. Hell, the tie-in manga, for as shitty as I think it is, suspiciously doesn't reveal Alpha as the true culprit to the data distortions that caused Bass to be framed and the idea that Bass' destiny was set in stone by the very creature he would become greatly associated with is potentially really haunting and cool. But it's Battle Network. A lot of the themes that are never explored in the series are forever doomed to be left explained as "probably unintentional."
I know you're not quite done with BN yet, but still, Thank you John. For the longest time, I thought this gba series was just some niche thing that no one else really knew about, so for someone to finally give these games the attention they deserved has been a wonderful experience. See you for Starforce and whatever else you decide to do.
@42:05 - My work here is done 😎 For real thanks for using my remix - it's such a sick feeling to see it used in someone's video!! Even if I had to subtly drop hints on their channel for like a year instead of just directly asking them to use it. Keep up the good work! 💎
Your remix is very well done and one of my favorite remixes of this ( the other being the rock version by Gametal ) every time it comes on I get excited and ready to fight. In my mind I have tons of ideas for like fights and battles that could go well with this piece.
@MisunderstoodAssassin Thank you for the kind words! I'm always glad to hear how much people enjoy this remix as it's definitely one of my favourites. Hell the boss theme from BN6 is one of my favourite tracks in VGM! Funny you mention that, because I legit do the same thing with a lot of music I like. I replay them over and over tweaking hype fight scenes or some cool scenario that plays in my head! Good to know I'm not the only one ahahah. Thanks again for listening and letting me know your thoughts. Have a good one! 💎
Fun Fact: Throughout all Battle Network and Star Force games, hitting START or SELECT during scripted dialogue cutscenes, you can skip it. This does not work for skipping Tutorials. In addition, for all GBA games, holding A, B, START, and SELECT will restart the game (but not affect saves), except the GBA logo part will be skipped. This is a good way to reload a save without having to turn the console off and then back on and is technically faster, especially when most games don't have an in-game load save option passed the main menu.
This was a journey and a half, thanks for helping me and many other relive their childhood for a game that didn't have much of a presence online beforehand
regarding scenarios being cut from this game, the game's files literally go up to "stage 6", with stages being the dungeons, while right now they only go up to 4 (ExpoComp is it's own thing), which prrrretty heavily imply that at the least 2 entire scenarios w dungeons and bosses just got cut out at some point. What with Colonel not really getting his own dungeon for whatever reason and Mayor Cain not... getting a dungeon or navi at all (despite his laptop supposedly being the last defense for opening the underground) it's also. Pretty obvious at least to some extent who the operators would have been at least.
I guess Underground is supposed to be Colonel's "dungeon"? Like how Central Area is to CircusMan. Though them going halfway with the endgame boss rush is weird (only half of the WWW bosses were involved, no Colonel rematch in the story, etc) Not sure what the implication of the additional stages are, but do we really need more addition to the Plot Armor Gang?
@@inconemay1441 I'd say the underground is more just the f/g-beast's dungeon than anything. Like i said in the original comment it's probably just that colonel and mayor cain had dedicated dungeons at some point before colonel's dungeon and cain's dungeon and navi got cut out, so it's not like the team rocket squad would have had any other characters to join them anyway. It's also real conspicuous that a boss is missing since the seaside-themed expocomp doesn't have a boss, though it makes some sense colonel didn't get a rematch considering how late in the game he's fought. Wrt cain's navi i **believe** the devs also mentioned wanting to revisit unused concepts from previous games, and a cult-y www operator of pharaohman was originally planned for the first game so it's also entirely possible they wanted to recycle pharaohman for cain at some point.
I have a playlist of these videos, for which I play often before I sleep, and it helps me fall asleep. I wake up and sometimes, the playlist hasn't ended yet. Adding this one, it would become always, rather than just sometimes. Thanks a lot! I really hope these videos pop-off, especially with the announcement of the Battle Network Legacy Collection. I can just imagine the work it takes to make each of these videos.
Yuichiro: Hmm the expmem I used on megaman might be able to stop the cybeast Megaman: Hey Lan let's go after the cybeast. Lan: huh? Why? We can't do anything. This kid became a scientist.
I wanna explain why Iris tends to act the way she did, specifically when she chose to allow herself to be captured by the defectors from W3. Remember that Iris was a weapons control Navi, and thus had the ability to use weapons in wars. She has gone through years of torturous moments of using weapons to kill countless people in wars and saw the pain and suffering that she has caused. This made her an extreme pacifist. This is precisely why, in every part of the game, Iris will not use force or violence against others. Despite how she could have turned the security bots against the defectors, or even threatened them to back off, her strong abhorrence for violence made her unwilling to do either. So she chose peaceful surrender. This is also why she won't simply jack out and run away. Her feelings for Lan make her fear that they'll go after him again, so she remains in their captivity. How she was unconscious, though, is another thing.
1:10:15 So, the Eagle thing is a safety mechanic, if too many pillars start to spawn on the map and are starting to grow, the game will occasionally give you a special looking pillar with a bird on it. Killing that one will have your Eagle come down and (if I'm remembering from my recent playthrough correctly) nuke the whole field for you, giving you a chance to catch back up. Of course, if you're on top of things, you won't need it at all.
Not done with the review yet but to answer johns question.yes fish can be trained and can hear. You train them by association a frequency or voice line to feeding them. So yes the aquarium thing COULD WORK. What's more likely however is that the system isn't audible throughout the entire aqaurium. Update I didn't think I was going to get featured in the review now I am embarrassed at my awful spelling. Edit :to my own awful spelling it's supposed to be it can be read as Japanese and Chinese the same when it comes out in English. i hate my awful spelling and communication skills.
Iris.exe: aka: "Let's actually do a shiptease for Lan since the characters are supposed to be growing up, including the whole theme of netnavis and humans and the decreasing line between them! But oh wait... we can't do that, we're still pretending our target audience hasn't aged a day since we released the first game in the series... Okay, we'll just kill her off while it's still extremely deniable. Character death is more appropriate for kids than completely nonsexual romantic themes, right?"
This right here is one of my favorite video games of all time, and I’m glad I got into this review series and channel, can’t wait to see how you bring this year+ long journey home. OH MY GOD HE HAS THE DAB PATCH
I was hoping for this one day. I was actually re-watching all your previous reviews on the series all weekend as background noise while grinding in Monster Hunter and then this appeared in my subscription box as I refresh and finish watching team colonel. Holy buster look at that run time, I'm going to get some drinks and snacks and enjoy the video.
One of the reasons I love the first Star Force game is that it's the first time in a Mega Man game that school teaches something else than virus busting or something tech-related. Finally, a math class.
I have a few guesses for why Dingo ended up in Sky Town and Feng-Tien ended up in Green Town. The most likely reason is they wanted JudgeMan's whip to be a significant threat by making it paralyze, but Tomahawk Cross is immune to paralysis. So, giving the player access to a cross that's immune to paralysis kind of takes the threat out of JudgeMan's whip during his first encounter. I also suspect that at some point in development, JudgeMan could have been an Elec-type Navi, but was later changed to a Non-Typed Navi. But if he was Elec type at some point during development, Tomahawk Cross would be BROKEN in his fight. The charge shot alone would completely invalidate an Elec-type JudgeMan. My evidence for thinking that JudgeMan used to be Elec type is that 1) he has his whip attack, and I believe I saw an attack with a book that causes lighting to strike around it, and 2) Ito's thing seems to be electricity. The school encounter involved fire-spewing security bots, and the Navi for the encounter is BlastMan, which is obviously a Fire-type Navi. So, you would think that Ito using punishment bots equipped with electricity would mean that JudgeMan would be an Elec-type Navi. I had just been assuming that up to this point, but apparently, JudgeMan is elementless like base MegaMan. Even Vic follows this trend, as he uses the weather simulation displays in Sky Area to use various Elements to hold up Lan and MegaMan, and ElementMan shifts between various elements. JudgeMan in general seems to have a lot of cut content as seen in the video, but my guess was that the order of the link navis was changed for balancing reasons. I like to think that they made both decisions independent of each other, so they just did both instead of doing one or the other. But JudgeMan is a really interesting thing to think about, now that I know about his cut content and now that it was pointed out to me the order of the Falzar crosses compared to where they appear in the menu.
Plus that would align well with the WWW ensemble paralleling the first game's (except for diveman and colonel obviously), Blastman, CircusMan, judgeman and elementman trying to mirror fireman, colorman, elecman and magicman
What would the Cross order rework be then (for both games honestly)? Maybe you get HeatCross VS JudgeMan with Mr. Match kind of fitting with the whole theme of the segment where it's law-centric? Although mechanically it would be kind of fun to have one version be you can roflstomp the boss with TomahawkCross but the other you'd be evenly matched with ElecCross. Granted they could have just balanced it to where you get their weakness Cross AFTER you beat them so you have an easier time with the element afterwards either for regular enemies or a Boss Rush. Lord, this is kind of why I hate games that have version exclusive stuff where it's just a handful of differences. The only "split version" game release I really like is when Zelda did it for the Oracle games, there's a basic amount of shared mechanics that make them Zelda games, but how they're utilized and how they go about the story/main focus of both differs enough to be two separate games. One is more combat based, and the other is more puzzle based and the story isn't just copy-pasted between the two. If you aren't going to do the effort of making the versions FEEL like different games/experiences, then you shouldn't make the effort to have exclusive versions at all where the only differences are extremely minor ***looks over at mainline Pokemon games.***
I still say judgeman and elementman should've been a wood and elec navi respectively to fit the fact that they managed to actually make comp levels representing all 4 main elements finally at the sixth entry. But no.
@@roaringthunder8069 That would SORT of make sense, one being a book (most of it being paper that tends to be made of trees) and the other seemingly being more of a machine than anything.
As Akihiko from Persona 3 would say, "I've been waiting for this!" Thanks for all the memories. I may have discovered your channel through your initial battle network review, but I definitely became more of a fan after giving your other content a look. You do impressive stuff, and I am glad to have become a patron and watch as you gradually improve yet maintain your style. The sheer amount of effort you put into your videos, especially this one, is something to be admired.
I had no idea that JudgeMan.exe was so bland because he was missing a Law and Order system! MAN, that would have been frustrating to deal with, but I would have considered him the best non-Bass boss in the entire series if is had been made functional!
I totally tuned out during that segment, because I thought it's just referring to his battle chip book attack which is lame but manageable, but the one that actually got cut is surprisingly nasty, like making the books move at ludicrous speeds or have them do wide range attacks on Mega's field.
Does anyone have a list of the most busted Battle Chips of each game? It seems that the Hockey Puck is the most busted one of BN4 and the Lock-On Chip is one I love abusing whenever I can for BN1.
@ZX-Gear I don't quite remember the list for BN5, but use a S-coded folder and you'll plough through most of the game with little to no trouble at all (specially if you equip chips like Air Hockey).
one of the best things the story has going for it is that, finally after 6 games, having already faked reforming in 3, mr. match genuinely turns over a new leaf. i guess having his navis deleted over and over finally got some sense into him.
Interesting note is when you defeat Blastman for the first time he complains about how he’s “going to receive another one of his lectures” which is a really tongue in cheek hint at Mr Mach being his Operator.
So the thing about the cybeast fights is that they are entirely gimmick free which means they have no invulnerability mechanic. Super Vulcan + Beastout + a +30 (or +50 if you've got one) chip + Full Synchro means you can very easily do more than half their health in one go.
They have invulnerability after hitting with attacks. I actually whiffed fighting Gregar multiple times. And Vulcans are near impossible to land, like TriArrows
Your theory about them running out of memory may be right. I heard somewhere that the battle screen minigames (charge man, tomahawk man, and dust man) take up about a quarter of gregars cart space and almost a third of falzars.
I found your channel randomly one day 2 weeks ago, it was recommending me the 1st part of your BN4 video, I watched it and over the course of a week or so I binged all your BN reviews and watched you play Transmission as that's a favorite game of mine from my childhood. I'm glad I found this channel, I can't wait to see you do the spinoffs and post games. Also Star Force eventually lol, I wonder how long Capcom will make us wait for THAT collection. Anyway, thanks for reviewing my favorite series of all time, I love it, even with all its flaws and I'm glad you enjoyed them too.
Somehow u sound more... "Worn out" than happy with the ending of this series. Anyhow I'm.glad I've met ur Channel and i Hope u keep doing some amazing reviews Man. Thank u for helping us all during covid era. U were , and are, a hero for us :)
really appreciate your addition of BN2's proof of courage at 1:59:00 . Honestly, not only does it blow me off that the side characters got that theme the most here but also not use the original (imo, BN1's was a dungeon's theme) proof of courage in the series' FINAL installment. (if we must, its little inclusion in the credit roll is a bad tease imo)
John replacing some of the tracks for the review is welcome, BN6 kept using the same track over and over it's tiring to listen to (using the BN5 theme in Baryl/Colonel segments and Proof of Courage as mentioned)
These videos have been soothing my awful brain to peace most nights for about six months. However many hours you suffered to make this series, you have saved me TWICE that in anxiety and insomnia. Thank you.
18:51 - lots of bugs are minor enough in 6 that it's worth taking advantage of the extra space even without BugStop. The buster bug only affects non-charged shots and does nothing in Beast-Out, the custom bug doesn't start shrinking your chip selection for 1-3 turns and then takes a few more turns to bring you back below a hand of 5, HP bugs are usually slow enough to be pretty easy to deal with (a bugged HP+500 takes more than a minute of combat to drain as much health as it gave you, even in the worst-case where you immediately get hit five times at the start of the fight to speed up the drain to as bad as it can get, not counting time in the custom screen or when time freezes for navi chips and such). AirShoes just breaks panels when bugged, and if you have AirShoes on you don't really need to care about that very much.
That's not even going into the benefit some bugs give. The Buster bug gives uncharged shots a small chance to become Normal style charge shots, the Warp bug can help you dodge attacks that would otherwise be unavoidable and can benefit folders that rely on short range attacks a lot. The Emotion bug can give free Full Synchro or Anger, the Panel bug can set up Snake folders easily, the Status bug (using 5+ colours) can give free Invis or Invuln at the start of a fight, while the Encounter and Result bugs can help with grinding chips/zenny respectively. It's best to think of bugs as double-edged swords in BN3, 5 & 6, and proper use of them can seriously help.
Almost missed this one!!!! Thank you for making the ONLY detailed Battle Network 6 review on UA-cam! Jesus, getting footage and info of this game is nigh impossible
I loved the Judge Tree segment, you can go around and see NPCs saying stuff like that it's now illegal to be rude to plants or step on the grass. Seeing a tree get bestowed with total power and immediately create a... Herbocracy(?) is such a bizarre way to explore the misuse of legal power
This is the best video of yours of the whole franchise, well done. Love how you react to the madness that is the nonsensical world of Battle Network. Hopefully you'll enjoy StarForce 1 a lot more like I do, a game with actual characterization.
Thanks for your work John! Much like the Battle Network series itself, your 6 part series covering one of my childhood favorite series' was top notch. Thank you so so much for making this and allowing to relive amazing memoroes!
I think it's actually quite nice that John bitches about the story occasionally. There's no reason that games intended for young-ish audiences can't have a compelling narrative, but often game writers just seem to dismiss building a sensible story because "it's for kids anyway, so what do they care." It'd be nice if writers could break out of that mold and actually have stories that make kids (and possibly adults) think.
I mean... There is the anime and manga versions of the storeis. Which, do go more in-depth. ...Although, the later half of the Battle Network 6 arc in the anime turns into a crazy Digimon-style isekai with Evil AU Navis that can use the Beast Out transformation.
You just said it. Why would kids care about story in games? They just care about having fun, if anything it's just more a nitpick. If I wanted a smartly written story in this universe, I'd just rather go read the manga. Game to play that's fun first, story importance second.
@@Phoenix_Destiny_Kai There are also the naive kids that would never make the connection that this game series would also have a tie in anime series that goes further in depth, and has a more engaging story (read:me). That audience shouldn't have to slog through a nonsense story like Battle Network 4 just because a better alternative exists, they wouldn't know!
@@Phoenix_Destiny_Kaiwhen I played these as a kid I cared, not to the degree of tearing it down but I cared enough to engage and connect with what little characters there were to connect with. even in the non BN games I played I cared about the story because it was part of the fun. they deserve to be criticized because they could have been done better and the multitude of other RPGs and even other Mega Man games on GBA prove this.
@@AnAverageGoblin I can't disagree with that, but at the same time I feel like there's a difference between giving an honest criticism and just making content trying to please a toxic crowd.
Back when the series was first being released I only really finished the first game (thank you high school for giving me an insane amount of free time during my senior year) and dabbled in 2 and 3. Beyond that I kind of lost track of the series but this video series did reignite that spark enough to make me want to check them out. Appreciate showing all the good and bad as it gives me a solid idea to pace myself and not just got hard on them all back to back. Definitely looking forward to the collections coming out and with any luck I'll actually manage to find free time to complete them.
Battle Network 6 was rushed, no question. But at the time, I saw it as Capcom bidding farewell to the console that had basically saved them during that generation. 6 mainline Battle Network games (adding up to 10 actual games), plus the 2 spinoffs, 4 Mega Man Zero games, the Boktai series, and a lot more, it's probably fair to say that the GBA made Capcom a small fortune. They started experimenting with the DS as early as they could - bringing Ace Attorney to the West on it, yet another RErelease, Battle Network 5, and the Zero Collection, along with Star Force - but Capcom's dev team never seemed to feel at home on DS like they did on GBA. So in many ways, it was a huge goodbye to the players and the hardware. I don't think they could have done it in a less rushed way. Even with more time, they'd just have added more stuff, but left huge things out. We'll always find the places they were weak, because of how much love was put into Battle Network as a whole. When even the "bad" game in the series (BCC) is a lot of fun and has as coherent a story as any other game in the series, it says something about them. Thank you for reminding me how much I love this game series, with all its goofiness.
What a way to finish the MMBN series, John, you really pushed yourself to the limit and made a masterpiece series out of this series. You have a true passion and effort with every single one of your works! Can't wait to see your future projects!
He’s not done, there’s one MMBN left: Chrono X. He must be agonizing over having to review it, in like ten years lol. JK I’m not mad at the devs, they’re taking their time to polish their fan game.
As a kid who sorta played every game at the same time with 6 being first the mystery was cool, its not about tricking you its about proper build up so it doesnt get as much sequel rot as 'hey look that guy', it works on it's own. And judgeman has a book shield. Also the optional crosses are good, as a kid i got stuck on them, mostly slashmans tight timing minigame when im bad under a timer and for some reason elecman, had to restart my save file entirely.
1:40:01 the Three idiots get in past the security bots because, just like we saw with Blackbeard right before this scene, theyre allowed into the building to see their boss the mayor. I agree its dumb but they do show that blackbeard is able to get in without an issue so the 3 dorks should have that same security clearance.
What a journey. You have brought joy to us with these reviews from game 1 to 6, and you even covered both versions to boot! I love how they perfected on the BN4 graphics in this title, the mugshots and the overworld look so pretty. On the music side, The hero theme can go....blast itself with how frequently it's repeated in cutscenes and the pitch is grating and tryhard. Otherwise the soundtrack is fantastic. The fact that Yuichiro never appears again after his rescue never crossed my mind until your streams. Probably because he has little to no connection to the endgame characters Baryl, Wily and Iris. Though now I am imagining a scenario where Lan is too late to save his dad... Completely forgot about Chaud's Speedy Dave disguise, somehow that's a memory hole anytime I try to recall moments in BN6. Not making him version exclusive really brings him back to form, like he and ProtoMan just returned from training in the mountains or something. Also forgot about Mayor Cain because the game either tries its hardest to ape X4, or focus on the stupid buffoons blessed with plot armor. Speaking of story moments, a lot of it feels repetitive, like Megaman getting in trouble and Mr Mach's confession in Sky Town. This is the game where Lan's friends' Navis being useless is really irritating. They just stand there and not resist just so Mr. Clown and his operator can be important and competent. These new characters really feel like afterthoughts, probably because the Link Navis are optional content, the villain ensemble are mostly fanmade designs, and the series was on a sharp decline at the time. All the repetitive Navi scenarios in the games overall really makes me appreciate TomahawkMan. DustMan and ChargeMan's minigames as it utilizes the battle arena engine and puts a twist on it. BN6 would definitely benefit from an enhanced port considering how much had to be cut to save space in the GBA cartridge, yet the Wii U version was as untouched as it is, so I'm really pessimistic on them restoring the cut content for the Legacy Collection. Looking years ahead in the future, not too keen on the "idolization" of the franchise going forward starting from Star Force. I knew the franchise is hemmorhaging audiences and Capcom wanted to draw appeal from dedicated fans, but man...
KNIJohn: "Is the extra ten minutes of play time worth it?" Capcom: "ten mins each, 20 times per game over ten games is....2000 minutes of useless play time. Divide that down we get... 33 hours. That's an entire game of play time that we don't have to make but still get money for!" *Stamps paper authorizing terrible filler quests*
As far as I remember, there are only 3 Megaman subseries with a finale: Battle Network, Star Force, and Zero. The original series is more or less episodic, so it not having a grand finale is less of a detriment, but the cliffhanger is pretty painful in the Legends, ZX, and X series. The X series being stuck with a cliffhanger is especially funny because Zero is supposedly a sequel to that series.
Man what an end... to think we still got the post game content to be covered. Granted that isn't publicly available yet but, John you've done a wonderful job covering the series. It is also this video series that makes me confident to grab the Collection sometime next year. I am more so looking forward to your Mega Man Zero videos than the post-game stuff since I've beaten the first two and currently struggling with 3. Or anything else really since you've grown quite a bit from the first Battle Network game. At least now you've got one behemoth of a project mostly complete. I hope you've been well and taking care of yourself judging by the utter hell you went through to get through 6, twice.
During Tomahawkman's minigame challenge, I got the eagle totem a few times, and what it does is this: after you destroy it with Tomahawk Swing, It will then destroy all other totems on the field in a sort-of air-raid divebomb sweep attack down each row a few times.
You didn't play that game, but there was another Recycled Element in this game, on the plot side this time! In Team Protoman, you mentioned that MagnetMan is recruited as part of that plotline. Magnetman is now operated by the relative (daughter) of his previous operator and is standoffish toward MegaMan, which is almost exactly the same scenario as Ann Zap (Wife of Count Zap) and ElecMan in your playthrough of Cybeast Gregar.
Fantastic work reviewing all six Battle Network games! I know it was a long, slow, often agonizing process, but it's been wonderful watching you play through and break down all of these, and your journey through this series makes up some of my favorite videos on youtube. Watch Capcom include the dab patch in the Legacy Collection and no online multiplayer. Seriously, though, we're supposedly getting a lot more news on the BN collection a month from now. Fingers crossed that the wait for that set will be as worth it as the wait was for these videos!
John you didn't comment on the most important thing this game did. in one text box it changed the entire dynamic of Lan and his ACDC friends, clarified a recurring issue that every single game, including both versions of 3,4, &5 glossed over, and solved a mystery we've all talked about in previous videos. 1:54:12 GLIDE ACTUALLY FUCKING DOES SOMETHING. ALL THIS TIME, IN EVERY PREVIOUS WORLD ENDING EVENT LAN AND HIS FRIENDS WERE CAUGHT UP IN GLIDE COULDVE DONE SOMETHING BUT CHOSE NOT TO.
I've seen most of your reviews and really enjoy them! Thank you for covering my favorite childhood game! I'll re-watch it since not a lot of people actually cover it...
I see u probably extremely saturated with megaman stuff for a long time but your reviews are really good, the jokes really makes the video way more entertaining and you being very charismatic sets you apart from the rest of other youtubers that does game reviews, and its kind of rare seeing someone put that much time and effort in analyzing and reviewing megaman subseries, so please continue making them when you can. great video btw, I really enjoyed it
Story wise 6 is really lacklus but gameplay wise 6 is the perfect sendoff. Crosses capture the fun and flashiness of souls with the reliability of styles and never before seen flexibility. You can strategize around reliable transformations instead of having to dedicate an entire folder and gameplan around a specific soul while being able to adapt on the fly to suit the battles needs. This is only enhanced in the PvP which is so polished and so surprisingly well balanced I'm convinced the devs had to have been playing it amongst themselves in their free time. Playing multiplayer BN6 has given me a whole new appreciation for this entry and has shot it up to my 2nd fav behind 3.
I was today years old when I realized of the main 5 WWW members in this game except for Baryl, four of them were in key positions in the town we encounter them. Mach: Cyber Academy Teacher (Lan Hikari is specifically added to his class). Blackbeard: Aquarium trainer. Ito: LITERALLY FUCKING MADE THE JUDGETREE. Vic: Not in the text of the game, but he's a former meteorologist for Sky Town. Yuika I guess counts as the rest of Central Town, but w/e.
I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Yuika is a community representative/official city event organizer, so she still fits the theme of the rest of them, assuming my memory is right.
Great job, I've absolutely loved this video series, and it's great to have a full review set of one of my favorite game series of all time. I do hope you take a decently sized break from the series, I know how burnout sucks, and working on videos of the same series for roughly two years is probably not the best for ones mental state. I wish you a nice and calming break from the insanity of the (video game) cyber world. And then come back to review Shanghai.EXE
Shouldn't Aquaman have been retconned into Spoutman here? That's weird. Also I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH how much you caught me off guard at 1:34:40. I must have been rolling for a good five minutes lmfao
another God-send that they did for BN6 is you don't bump into random encounter in certain mini-game, unlike BN4 and 5 where you can't stop bumping into one every few step, which cause the already long mini-game to even longer.
Fun fact: During the "Return to ACDC" chapter, not only can you get the final 2 link Navis you can also do all the job board quests up to that point, & the virus battler (which may be too hard considering what viruses you have access to at this point) Regardless it's still kinda crazy that you can go do a crazy amount of side stuff at this point considering there's about 1/4 to 1/3 of the main game left. Also it's funny imaging Lan's old friends run around for hours while he does all the side content.
2:06:10 I love how since they didn't have a reworked school for BN4-6 they just reuse the old map from 1-3 and don't scale the desks or put the black outline around anything. It looks hilarious that all the kids have desks that tower over them in height, but only in ACDC School. Also funny how they make sure to specify Lan is in the sixth grade but still has Ms. Mari for a teacher and is never shown to be in school until BN6.
Imagine just walking into this video and seeing Mega-man Dab, without prior knowledge to what happened on stream. Thank you so much for all this! Here's to many more memories to come! Cheer1
Ahhh.. I can’t believe I missed this. Might have to dedicate a weekend, some popcorn and a liter of coke for this nostalgia trip. Thank you for this, even if you said this s*cked for you, I personally appreciate every MMBN videos you make. :)
Damn this video having me feel the way I did the first time I saw the post credits scene in BN6. Megaman was a big part of my childhood, especially Battle Network, and when I saw "MegaMan Battle Network: E N D", not Battle network 6, not gregar, not Falzar, just Battle Network, it really came out of nowhere. I came across these videos shortly after the Legacy Collection announcement and binged them all, including the BN6 stream VODs. Let me just say each of these has been so well made, it really captures the spirit of these games I loved growing up. Looking forward to seeing what your next projects are, whether it's the BN6 post game or something else entirely, can't wait to see!
2:02:00 Oh my god why does this make me so sad. She barely shows up and barely says anything but this still gets to me 15 years later. That's when I first beat it and started tearing up at the ending. Gosh darn it. MMBN had so much of an impact on me even I didn't realize how much. I hope we get iris.exe in Megan x dive. Don't care what bullshit moves they give her. I'll instant pull.
Well, there IS a version of her where she supposedly took up Colonel's sword and my god, it's easily the BEST version of her. .....even has a bit of a big sister vibe if you look at the artwork too. (Iris Another)
One fun thing that happened when I last emulated Gregar version was that I was awarded a Cannon C chip from one of the green mystery datas in the comp, giving me a PA to fight the boss with. Which I then got and discovered that GigaCannon1 has a spread effect, meaning Blastman had all of 1 turn to see this little blue guy waltz up and bring out an enormous F*ck you cannon before being forcibly logged out/deleted by the shockwave.
John, take a break Master Cob, you fucking deserve it.
Thank you for everything John the battle network fans would have never gotten this big please take a break
So now that you're done with the MMBN 6 review, I'm going to go ahead and complain and moan on why you haven't done another game. hehe.. but in all seriousness, I would love to see a Boktai and Boktai 2 review on your channel.
Pov: Ms zap found out her husband tried to kill her Ms zap: WHATTTTT!!!!!!!!
I never realized that until now
I find it also rather ironic but for a different reason.

They do remember past things, like referencing Gospel with Gregar....and then proceeds to forget Alpha existed
I never read the manga, but why its shit?
I know you're not quite done with BN yet, but still, Thank you John. For the longest time, I thought this gba series was just some niche thing that no one else really knew about, so for someone to finally give these games the attention they deserved has been a wonderful experience. @42:05 - My work here is done 😎
For real thanks for using my remix - it's such a sick feeling to see it used in someone's video!! Even if I had to subtly drop hints on their channel for like a year instead of just directly asking them to use it.

The a b start select works with all gba games. Its fast reset Nintendo made for the system

That touch at the Underground scene with the roar showing the other version's beast out was GENIUS.
Though them going halfway with the endgame boss rush is weird (only half of the WWW bosses were involved, no Colonel rematch in the story, etc)
Not sure what the implication of the additional stages are, but do we really need more addition to the Plot Armor Gang?
No wonder the main story feels so short.
After ACDC, it's very much seems like the game was rushing to the final stage (the Expo) way too quickly.
I have a playlist of these videos, for which I play often before I sleep, and it helps me fall asleep. I wake up and sometimes, the playlist hasn't ended yet. I...i didn't realize the fact that Lan or Mega didn't get any bigger hero moments. I always knew something was off but I never realized that was it.
1:10:15
So, the Eagle thing is a safety mechanic, if too many pillars start to spawn on the map and are starting to grow, the game will occasionally give you a special looking pillar with a bird on it.

How is it that two people can be living the exact same life at the same time?
@@orangebouy2866 pure dumb luck/coincidence. But as one might know true coincidences are rare.
Divine Punishment/ Retribution is usually associated with Lightning so Yay Him being originally a Elec type makes sense.
I totally tuned out during that segment, because I thought it's just referring to his battle chip book attack which is lame but manageable, but the one that actually got cut is surprisingly nasty, like making the books move at ludicrous speeds or have them do wide range attacks on Mega's field.
god I hope someone finishes it and patches it into the game as a hack at some point

It's quite comical how many times the BN6 Hero theme plays during the final scenario.
You could make a drinking game out of it.
one of the best things the story has going for it is that, finally after 6 games, having already faked reforming in 3, mr. match genuinely turns over a new leaf.

Wasn't his last appearence in BN4?
@@Matanumi nope he's back as a teacher with heatman to give you heat cross.
And also the woman he and Lan helped back in 4 presumably soften the guy, good for him.

But then there’s warpstep.
Oh god warpstep.
Man, you’re effort is appreciated. I’ve binged watched these and I cannot express how grateful I am of your work.
I love how your level of sarcasm devolves further and further as this series goes on. Can't wait for the Star Force reviews! :)
Thanks for making this BN review series. It's been very entertaining and a joy to watch
Thank you for reminding me how much I love this game series, with all its goofiness.
aquaman's all about that drip.
I want you to know I appreciate all your hard work and thanks to you I am hyped af for Battle Network Legacy collection.
@@protocetid That's going to be his IW/EG then. That's good they want to polish the game though. But can he tackle MEGA MAN SPRITE GAME?
As a kid who sorta played every game at the same time with 6 being first the mystery was cool, its not about tricking you its about proper build up so it doesnt get as much sequel rot as 'hey look that guy', it works on it's own.
And judgeman has a book shield.
Also the optional crosses are good, as a kid i got stuck on them, mostly slashmans tight timing minigame when im bad under a timer and for some reason elecman, had to restart my save file entirely.
Man it took them 6 games to get to puppy kicking villain when it only took 1 game for Legends to get to puppy kicking hero
KNIJohn: "Is the extra ten minutes of play time worth it?"
Capcom: "ten mins each, 20 times per game over ten games is....2000 minutes of useless play time. Divide that down we get... 33 hours. That's an entire game of play time that we don't have to make but still get money for!"
*Stamps paper authorizing terrible filler quests*
"He really pulled a two gigant paint bubbles on us" lmao , man Im glad your channel exist
Holy Shit!
John finally released the MMBN6 stream vod!
1:17:25 oh my god is that a fucking falling sky city with colonel and iris involved.
ultimate mmx4 reference
The craziest thing about Battle Network is... which arm is Protoman's sword attached to?
TomahawkMan's axe:
47:23 just saving this timestamp for whenever I need a chuckle
Thanks random cyber internet corn person. I appreciate this corny selfless action.
I've loved this series, and it helped me remember the love I had for the MMBN series - thank you for these recaps
I waited so long for this… Thank you
I was today years old when I realized of the main 5 WWW members in this game except for Baryl, four of them were in key positions in the town we encounter them.
17:40 do I seriously have to look up “megaman character’s ass art” to find the source?
I'm doing the same brother
Its likely Nana from Megaman X Command Mission. Color scheme and chest placement look right.
It's from the card game TEPPEN, and yes it is the character Nana from Command Mission
I think mick’s Navi is supposed to be a callback to what bad navis looked like in the first two battle network games
another God-send that they did for BN6 is you don't bump into random encounter in certain mini-game, unlike BN4 and 5 where you can't stop bumping into one every few step, which cause the already long mini-game to even longer.
Thank you so much! it was so nice to follow your adventures!
Fun fact: During the "Return to ACDC" chapter, not only can you get the final 2 link Navis you can also do all the job board quests up to that point, & the virus battler (which may be too hard considering what viruses you have access to at this point)
Regardless it's still kinda crazy that you can go do a crazy amount of side stuff at this point considering there's about 1/4 to 1/3 of the main game left. Also it's funny imaging Lan's old friends run around for hours while he does all the side content.
I'm so happy, thank you for this amazing series. I'm ready for the new releases
Cheer1
For all the faults the plot has, let us never forget the one thing it got right.
THEY LET GLIDE ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING!
What’d he do?
Damn John, it's been a great ride, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for your channel pal!
(Iris Another)
Finally have time to watch this video.
The last (probably) MMBN game but this is my first one. So much memories. Thank you!
I've been waiting for this! This series has been great, thanks for the content
akihiko is that you?
