"Megaman, ATTACK!!"
*tosses what is a essentially a Nokia phone directly at someone*
God bless
I unironically think this is one of the most peak moments of MMBN plot. Because in this case the Navi Operator actually assaults the other one directly and makes it with the most sensible option in those circumstances available. If Lan's PET now has a protective case that can protect it from water, you can be sure it's also a solid bludgeoning tool now
Not only that, but how strong is Lan to be able to knock down a grown adult just by throwing his phone. 😅
"Lan only has one brother. And he's an iPhone app now."
That got me pretty good.
The way Lan just decks that wannabe cowboy with his electronic brother in a cellphone is rich beyond belief.
That’s a brand new sentence if I’ve ever heard one
This happened alot in back then in the ancient time of 2000.
Where the Indestructible Nokia Brick Phone is still a thing.
Like there someone had die and block a bullet with that darn thing.
Even more ridiculous is how the cowboy didn't even TRY to strangle Lan while he was in arms length completely focused on their smash bros match. These were the PETs that still used cords. They had to be standing RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER to plug into the same computer. I can just imagine Wily completely losing his shit upon seeing that performance on live television. 😂
That single scene made me into a battle network fan
@@lightfangx6961 I’m surprised mf got up too, he got hit straight in the heqd
You complain they don't just shoot Lan, but let's face it, explosions don't kill old men, so what are guns going to do?
He has anime protag powers no gun wants a piece of that lol
And he has the power of child. Plot armor pales in comparison.
That's not ridiculous That's not ridiculous to say that.
What are ya cooking there bud? 😀
I cannot express how happy seeing an adult human person struggle with the alpha fight made me feel validated. This was my first Battle network game as a kid and I was OBSESSED. However I had very little internet access so every dumb puzzle or problem I simply had to figure out myself. I remember getting to Bass and it was the most impossible boss fight of my little 8 year old life. I remember screaming so loud out of joy that my parents thought I hurt myself…… And then came Alpha.
I was so shocked not just that Bass wasn’t the final boss but that the next one was SO MUCH HARDER. I died almost instantly. And literally broke down crying when it made me fight Bass again. It was so hard. And I was 8 so I didn’t even think about going back to an old save. (Could you even do that on the gba?) So I just fought these final two boss battles. Again and again. FOR MONTHS. I’d grind multiple hours a day until eventually beating Bass became second nature to my little 8 year old hands. And then just throw myself against alpha again and again and again. And also because I was 8 I had no idea how to use more than the most basic of program advances and memory setups. So I basically had to learn how to defeat alpha with JUST THE BUSTER and drag the fight out over hours at a time. Until eventually after 3 months of attempts, I finally beat it.
You’ve validated one of the smallest but biggest victories of my life. Thank you so much for this series.
Alpha is legitimately one of the hardest bosses in gaming
This just shows that kids are tougher than modern game companies think. I agree that these battles were extremely difficult but when we finally won it felt like a huge accomplishment. Same with Pokémon games, I had fun figuring out all the puzzles and stuff. Nowadays game companies are like "Oh kids aren't smart or patient enough for that kinda thing so we didn't bother adding it." (Mostly referring to their reasoning for never bringing back the battle frontier in Pokémon)
Kaiser sigma, dust man's level in Rockman world 3 (mega man three for the game boy) wily capsule seven. there are bosses and levels that make you feel solidified as a gamer, but then you have bosses that as my friend put it .....beating the game is just getting to them....cause you aint beating them
This is amazing to read. Just want to pop in here 7 months later to say Good Fucking Job! A late congratulations is better than never! ❤
You just sucked at the game
As a hardcore, life-long Megaman fan who has been dying to see these games given the analysis they deserve, I am absolutely up the wall happy with these videos and commend you for them. I enjoy these dissections on Battle Network, while there are aspects that I'd intellectually challenge, I can't complain with your approach and I'm impressed by the sheer quality in the videos you've been producing.
Kudos, this is such a treat to this old-time Megaman fan and I look forward to further takes on the Battle Network franchise. Thank you.
Exactly my thoughts!
Also, this man is very funny, I want his channel to get more attention right now.
S O F U N N Y
I agree!
Took the words right outta my mouth.
Fun fact: The number machines’s numbers of the Japanese version was obtainable from merch at the time, especially the Lotte’s chocolate wafers and calendars. Along with the figures and toys seen in Lan’s room, and the donjara (kids version of Mahjong), it’s weird, but BN3 had obvious product placements
A small detail I just noticed:
At the end of BN3, Lan changes his father's mind on his regret of giving Navis emotions.
In BN4, he gets a new Megaman whose key feature is the ability to use emotions in battle.
Pro tip: never use Dark Chips
I don't think he creates a new megaman I think he uses his back up data to bring him back
@@bahaedablackaceenthusiast9955 What happened to Megaman at the end of 3 is up for a lot of debate. So far the two competing theories is that he survived Alpha and was recovered, and that he was replaced either with a backup or with a new navi completely.
@@omegahaxors3306 MegaMan turns into Hub during 5, so it's not a new Navi. And the whole thing about Hub was that he couldn't be backed up.
I was pretty sure Megaman.EXE survived being absorbed by Alpha. The reason Lan was alone for many months without a Navi is because his Father spent so long digging through Alphas data to find him. Recall Grandpa Dr.Hikari's digitized self survived in Alpha by being within a hidden room. Megaman.EXE was found in said room and was recovered and returned during the post credits. Also I don't think Megaman.EXE can be backed up like most Navi's in the first place. He was created with Hubs DNA and is special enough that most current Navis are far outclassed by him so not sure Dr.Hikari can just create a V2 so easily.
This aint a review, this a whole speedy walk through.
Thanks for making it easy to relive my childhood.

That scene of Hub shooting Lan out of Alpha really messed me up as a kid. I understood exactly what it meant. Kept replaying the fight and was the first megaman game I ever got near 100% on. Seriously what a great ride
I remember replaying that part over and over trying to run in different directions to prevent that cutscene
@@EA-bv8zk same here
It could have been avoided if they hadn't stopped in place.
The scenario of Mamoru almost dying thanks to an attack on World 3 was the third game to make me feel for a fictional character. As a kid this plot line hit me HARD! and if I remember right, this was the one time I wanted a Navi to DIE.
One more thing, I think I know why the guts style function doesn't work for you on an Xbox controller. Namely the analog buttons on the Xbox controller have a significantly longer throw (movement range) than the digital buttons on the real GBA or DS. This means that what feel like fast taps to you on the controller are actually fairly long presses (the button is"on" from about 25% of the way down, to 75% of the way back up, so over twice as long as a fast tap on the original hardware). I can confirm that the machine gun features of guts style work as advertised on original hardware.
If I misunderstood how the Xbox controller interprets button presses on PC, then it's still the control throw, but instead of the long presses, is the time between presses that is longer than on genuine hardware.
There is also likely made worse by the fact that emulation of the GBA on non original hardware comes with inherent input delay. Only a frame or two's worth depending on a lot of factors, which typically does not matter for most things, but it's enough to compound these sorts of issues.
I got this game from a WB tv contest. Entered the magic work on a saturday monring on the website and a few months later this showed up in the mail. I was recently at my dads house and found my Gameboy, charged it up and my 12 year old son flipped it on. He was like "this is some weird pokemon game, im not sure what is going on"...i have never felt so old!
lol I think your kid needs a drool cup
I agree
Wow, those contests were real? I entered so many thought they were all fake. Lmao
16:49 *laughs in Bug Style*
Speaking of.... 27:53 Bug Style is RIDICULOUSLY strong, and not just because of the two programs you get. The wiki says the bugs you get are mostly negative, the wiki is wrong. You ALWAYS get 3, 2 are positive, 1 is negative. And the positives are broken, things like starting with 10 chips available or maxed buster stats. BugStop is great, and if you want to use certain Giga chips in the postgame you actually need to have DarkLicense installed, but the style itself is also no joke. If Custom weren't so broken Bug might be the strongest style.
Honestly outside of pvp Bug is the best style even above custom since you can run Folderback, Dark Aura, Sanctuary in Blue verison and basically be immortal to any attack under 300, or if they can't crack panels, any attack under 600.
White is more aggressive with Serenade and Navi Recycle. The trick here is you limit the opponent to a single tile with area grabs/ext, then serenade with a navi + chip, followed by Navi Recycle. This gives you double seranade chips who hit for like 1500 each.
Also getting out bug is pretty easy, get the buster bug that produces rock cube on a charge shot and then air shot/guts punch them for 200 dmg each
@@zachelkins1229 What I did was bug SneakRun and farmed Mettaurs for bugfrags and guard chips. In this game only, you can buy back as many copies of a chip from Higsby's ordering service as you have spent on the chip traders. Guard is the cheapest at 100z, so you end up spending only 300-1000z per random chip. This gets really broken once you have access to Undernet 2's GMD.
The random movement bug made me ditch BugStyle as soon as I got the DarkLicense program purely for the completionism sake. It's way too annoying to deal with and I'm not the type of person to reset-scum fights until I get the actually desired effects. BugStop has a humongous size and it doesn't affect the random bugs you start with in the BugStyle, I never found placing it in NaviCust worth for anything other than removing 50% max health penalty from the HubBatch, and DarkLicense is overrated when Hole * exists and you will obtain it even before getting your first GigaChip that requires it (not to mention, DarkMan, a hilariously OP NaviChip to rival PlantMan, creates one as a side effect).
Honestly, if the movement bug pulled you left/right, if the game explicitly told you which exact positive and negative side effects you will have in a fight in the custom screen before turn 1, and if I didn't get it all the fucking time I try to run HubBatch without BugStop, I wouldn't be so harsh on this dice roll of a style
“Never trust a grown man wearing a cowboy hat.”

*Stares in Ranch hand*
Stares in Tyler the creator
I wouldn't trust any of those people by default but they have my respect nonetheless lol
Point still stands lmao
No no. I’m a Texan and he has a point. 😂
Food for thought. This is the only game in which Lan and Hub present to have a special connection. If you realize, Megaman will hint with little to no subtlety how he feels hungry or experiments pleassure out of things, in comments like "this feels great doesn't it Lan?" or "Aren't you hungry Lan?"
42:05 I just about DIED. Finally some cartoon physical violence in the game after 2 games worth of threatening it in some fashion! 😂😂😂😂
Seriously, it's the equivalent of getting hit in the head with a hunky chunk of hard plastic or even metal.
58:48 As someone who watched the entire Rockman.EXE anime before playing the Battle Network games, I was totally shocked when I saw what the hell Anetta did in the games. I already knew that the Anime changed a lot of stuff from the games, but I wasn't expecting something like that!
"Its gutsman..."
(NOT) Gutsman: *Fucking dies*
"Back to business"
Sucks that he didn't discuss how much harder he was in this state. Shooting Guts fists and activating Z-Punch is brutal.
Ya know it was quite an unexpected challenge to make such a story heavy game into a watchable video. There are so many scenes that I felt worked better if I didn't talk over them, but since there's no voice acting, that results in a lot of "rapid beeping text" for you guys to read. I feel I left too many cutscenes in and probably could have cut some out but I like to let media speak for itself whenever I can. This is the most narrative based Battle Network though, so future parts should be lighter on cutscenes.
Sorry if all the narration breaks for cutscenes were annoying to you.
What are you taking about, this is fantastic...I only played from MBN 1&2 never had the chance to play the rest
I prefer your style of letting cutscenes play out uninterrupted. Sometimes when people make reviews they either forget stuff in cutscenes or intentionally leave things out to try to make their point usually that something is better or worse than it is. By just showing the scenes by themselves it does what you said it it dose. It let's the game speak for itself allowing the audience to come to their own conclusion of how they feel about the scene and your criticism of it.
Thx very much for this man!
Keep em. This is excellent. When I expect a review I also expect critiquing. Wait til you do Megaman battle network 4. *during a dramatic cutscene* “legs go MegaMan!” I never forgot this.....
Great video man don't even second guess it

There's actually a bit more to Bug Style: although you may get bugs in Battle, you may also start the battle with positive effects, such as a 100 HP Barrier, invincibility like with the Fanfare chip, or get 10 available chips from the get go. It's essentially a gamble: you may start a battle with a huge advantage, or a miserable disadvantage.
Great video series I must say: as a new fan of Battle Network it's a blast seeing UA-cam content on the BN games.
Next stop is... going to be a tough one.
Oh, and since you're most likely playing only one version of each game,I hope that you'll go with Team Colonel for 5, as Colonel and its navigator are important characters in BN6 (kind of a big oversight to make version exclusive characters plot relevant in the next game).
Yep if you played Protoman version the only insight into Colonel (And Baryl) is when you're purifying Dark Protoman, and you don't get much.
Heh....BN4 is SUCH a pain to complete 100%, if only because of the DublSoul system. Personally i hope he goes for TC as well for BN5 instead of TP, for the sole reason that you already mentioned, they're plot important characters.
Yep, I'm gonna be going for Colonel. I was gonna do Protoman cause that's the one I had as a kid, but then, like you said, I realized there's no introduction to Colonel who's vital to BN6. I'll probably talk about the Soul Unisons from both versions but cover the story from Colonel as it's the "canon" one.
@@knijohn3581 Hells yeah. TC has the better navis anyways IMO. It was the one I played as a child though, so that might be the nostalgia shining through. Which one of BN4 are you planning to do? Because from what I know, not much changes.
I'm gonna be doing Red Sun for two reasons. One is that I just like the Souls more (Lan's friends Souls are cool). The other is that I'm going to play Gregar for 6, apparently Red Sun ties better with Gregar and Blue Moon better with Falzar. Something about certain characters only appearing in one or the other. Aquaman I think is only introduced in Blue Moon and shows up again in Falzar.
In case any of you wonder about Mamoru's state after the surgery... take a closer look at his concept art. Specifically, the icon on the side of his wheelchair.
Now look at Serenade's icon. You're welcome.
They turned him into a digimon my gid
I just replayed MMBN3 post-game story and Serenade feels kinda... unfinished as a character. There isn't much explanation as to how exactly the "mercy" is his biggest strength, why his Internet area suddenly looks like a paradise compared to the Undernet, and why he is completely gone from the story later on
So what? Mamoru’s Navi is seranade?
@@TheKpa11pretty much, how else would Serenade be in charge of the Undersquare and the Secret Area with out a corresponding admin? Let alone a place to hide out the Gigafreeze program?
@@TheGundamDude8045
Wish he was more of a character then. Not just some secret teased super boss
Fun fact; the insignia on the side of Mamoru's wheelchair is the same insignia on Serenade's belt; so it is widely considered canon that Mamoru is Serenade's operator.
Furthermore, in the official creation illustration guide, it is mentioned that Mamorus mother is Tamakos older sister, making Tamako (metalmans operator) his aunt. Keep in mind that the undernet server is located at the inn as well (which always confused me as a kid, it seemed so random)
This just occurred to me, but do you think that means the innkeeper is related to them as well? I doubt she's old enough to be Mamorou's grandmother, but... She would also have to be aware of the server's existence.
Also the hot spring is kept hot by the heat the server computers produce underground
@@tosh1234567890o wow, that is actually brilliant.
When I first saw Lan just yet his PET into the guy as a kid I laughed my ass off. It was so real and hilarious and, I imagine, painful to the guy he hit that it cemented itself into my brain for years to come.
NOOOOOWWWWWWW
MEGAMAN, ATTACK
Autocorrect can be annoying at times, can it.
Dude that PET was in a case that protected it against pretty much anything. That HAD to do some heavy damage.
"We're starting a counter on how many times the Battle Network games are padded out with recycled content"

I forgot how unsympathetic Cossak was about the torment he and his team put Forte through, and even not acknowledging Forte's right to be angry with them and distrust humans, instead his own creator calling him a thing, a mistake that needs to be erased. All this does is make me side with Forte over Cossak and his goons who falsely blamed him and don't even acknowledge they were in the wrong for what they put him through.
Yeah that's why I prefer the Manga adaption. It makes the story more tragic because Cossack tried to break Bass out of there but got arrested before he could intervene and was made to believe Bass was deleted by the raid. Meanwhile, Bass not knowing Cossack was arrested thought he was in on the assassination attempt. At least the Manga gives them some closure
As someone who got into Mega Man through the Battle Network series, it's so nice to see people still talking about it. As someone who gets finicky about minmaxing characters in an RPG, the ease and freedom of customization when it comes to your chip folder and programs is a lot of fun.
Something I've found interesting about Mamoru is that since he has Serenade's insignia on his wheelchair, it's implied that either Mamoru is Serenade's operator, or he inherited Serenade from his dad. In that sense, Mamoru talking about how the Net helps put people on a more level playing field really hits different.
It's funny that you mention getting Wood Shield style grinding before Alpha. A common strategy for Alpha I've seen is equipping a Wood style, installing the Undersht program, and adding the GrassStg chip to your folder (possibly set it as your regular chip too). Since you recover health on grass panels if you use Wood Style, plus Undersht's ability to keep you from dying as long as you have 1 HP, you pretty much become immortal so long as you have at least one grass panel to stand on.
Looking forward to the rest of this retrospective!
Pretty sure it was officially confirmed by the director of the games or something that the fans were right and Mamoru WAS the operator for Serenade.
Holy crap dude, I can’t believe the fact you don’t have more views on these videos. These are seriously high quality in terms of editing, pacing, and content. I hope you keep this series up 👍

Sticking to the back row to avoid the Pawns? He tosses down an AreaGrab and moves the Pawns forward.

Protoman is a hard boss for many players.
It knows how to guard;
His default attack is a STEP SWORD which is a rare chip;
It has a shield that was only introduced from Shield Style in 2;
And Chaud said in 2 that he MADE PROTOMAN and aftet his defeat at NetCastle he said that he could reprogram Protoman from scratch, I mean. WTF?!
He may train for this much time is very believable, ESPECIALLY IN HIS ROUTE AT BLUE MOON! WOW!
The crab with the HP Memory is probably one of my favorite things ever, I won't lie.
Also, great, GREAT job with these videos. MMBN3 was my first game of the series I play. To see it getting this kind love and care puts a smile on my face, truly!
Keep it up man, EAGERLY awaiting BN5 and 6!
jfc i totally forgot how heavy the mamoru arc was.... and i was okay with this as a kid???? is that why i have issues now???
13:33 I remember that the entrance leading into another room had a jack in port. You couldn't see it. But when you entered there was a group of programs huddled together. One of them mentions that the things on their heads aren't their ears but actually their hands. I loved that little bit of random info.
I remember back in 2003 when I had Battle Network 1, 2 and 3 Blue, I was deeply worried that the ending of Battle Network 3 meant there wouldn't be a Battle Network 4. But on the day I found out Battle Network 4 got released in Japan, I was so relieved, and the following year later in 2004... well, words aren't enough to describe how happy I felt when I got Battle Network 4 Red Sun.
I remember the bn4 promotion mag was given out by my school, good times

53:00 Isn't "HBD" what killed Hub?
54:06 Yup, I wasn't forgetting that info from MMBN1.
no matter how many times i see the scene where Lan shouts "MEGAMAN ATTACK!" and throws his PET, i can't help but laugh
Love this series, part of me hoped you'd touch on the post-game because it's so expansive and the time trials are insanely difficult. But watching even just the regular story play out brought a lot of nostalgia. Thanks!
One way to easily deal with Alphas is with guts Style. I have no idea why it never worked for you during your playthrough. I used the machine gun function of that style constantly as a kid. it absolutely rips through Alphas body making the fight a lot easier. in order to activate the machine gun function of guts Style you have to rapidly tap the Buster button for a bit before it starts up. The style also gives you access to the programs break buster and break charge. These will give you the ability to destroy Alphas arms for a little while as well as other previously impenetrable defenses like Drillman's drills, metalmen's gears, Kingman's chess pieces, Met's helmet, puffball's mask, you can even destroy those yoyo viruses yo-yos causing them to panic for a bit.
Next to custom Style I find gut Style to be one of the more useful styles offensively. If you ever revisit the game I hope you have better luck with this style.
I think ge mentioned playing with an Xbox controller of some variety at some point in the video. If he's emulating the game on a PC, then this makes sense and is likely a fault with the controller's buttons. Xbox controllers are known to have pressure sensitive face buttons, which might result in some odd input errors.
This was my first Battle Network game as I had problems finding a copy of both Battle Network 1 and 2. Battle Network 3 blew me away with the plot as most of the mainline games didn't have moments like Mamoru's surgery, which felt so real.
I want to personally thank you for your time and dedication to a series that so many of us loved growing up (and of course even now). It doesn't get enough light and this generation would be the perfect time to re-launch the series again being that they kinda predicted how tech would influence our lives.
Anyway, this being many of players favorite in the series I'm happy you went in full detail on the main game but I really hope that when you have more time and need a new video thst you go back and grab all the post content, of course not 100%-ing unless compelled to do so but giving it a good deep dive or going so far as to use another save file to jump past the grind business in order to experience the game in full.
The post game of three feels like it should have just been part of the game. The area, music, bosses, and enemy units are all very interesting fun and awesome.
Definitely missing out on some of the best parts of the game outside of the heavy story impact.
Regardless, awesome job and thank you for these videos!
I wish someone could get the voice actors from NT warrior to dub the ending of these games

Yes I am incredibly mediocre at the game, thank you for noticing.
I don't really care how you say Chaud. Say it however you want.
Yes I'm covering all the other main Battle Network games as well.
Oh you don't beat the game in the video?
@@doctorpoopdick1350 He beats the story, but doesn't go into anything post game related. I don't blame him, though. Even just completing the Standard Chip Folder is a nightmare in any of the games, due to how luck based getting certain chips can be.
Almost all of these games include post-content, so maybe it'd be best to cover them all together in their own video. Thanks for addressing that! I was gonna ask.
I am just confused as to how you couldn't get the Guts Style machine gun not to work, to be fair you have to press it rapidly VERY fast in order to activate it, it is however very consistent. Arguably the best style to get in my opinion. Just my too cents AMAZING showcase of the game, and I didn't think it could still get this popular in 2021.
Is it pronounced Chode?
With the number trader, the codes that aren't found in game can only be found online at this point. They originally were slowly teased out over time during the Japanese airing of the anime and wasn't brought over when it was localized.

@@inconemay1441 They were part of the commercial breaks during the television broadcasts, kinda like the old "Who's that pokemon". It's unlikely they were ever recorded as part of the episodes themselves.
Forgot how awesome this game was. I always loved it but it’s easy to brush aside a GBA title amidst a dozen others. The music is great, the art is great, the battle mechanics are varied and fun, and the overall atmosphere was fantastic. I remember the actually unnerving feeling of going around at night without the cheerful/upbeat music playing. Not to mention you end up really getting invested in the characters problems.
The love Lan has for Megaman when he throws his PET is so touchable. XD
The competitive scene with this game was crazy. There was so much strategy involved in developing folder compositions.
Fun fact about the navi customizer bugs
there are actually two types of Buster bugs that can occur that are arguably positives rather than negatives.
- *Guard/Shield Buster*
Instead of releasing a buster shot when you fire you'll release the guard Shield from your buster. This works just like the chip so you can use it to repeatedly reflect damage back at the enemy in the form of shock waves. You can use the shield about 30 or so times before it starts working properly again. You can achieve the bug that causes this soon after receiving the navi customizer. As long as there aren't holes are broken panels on the battlefield this is a completely viable option for a buster replacement. this works pretty well even in the late game and post game since the damage is dictated by the enemies attack. I personally prefer using this bug over most of what Shield Style has to offer in terms of programs
- *Squirt Gun Buster*
Instead of Megaman releasing a proper charge shot he will shoot out sad dribble of water that spills out onto the ground soon after coming out of the Buster. Despite its pathetic animation this actually a 100 damage water attack if you could land it on an enemy. only hitting the panel directly in front of Megaman, this basically just makes this a sword in terms of range. I don't know how early in the game you can achieve this bug but it can be a nice substitute if you don't like your current charge shot or need a high-power water attack but don't care to change styles. That and it's a fun way of ruining a Boss's Day by more or less pissing on them. Rip FlameMan.EXE
On my last playthrough of the game I had actually discovered the shield bug for the first time and it not only blew my mind, but it also made me appreciate just how good of a customization system the Navi Customizer is and why not many other RPG's come close to matching the depth and experimentation it provided. I've been coming back to the games in this series a LOT over the past year or two and never before has my love and appreciation grown for a series more after not touching them for so long.
@@megasoniczxx this is why more than anything I want some sort of collection or remake specifically with online battle and Trading. These games are underrated gems what's a ridiculous amount of complexity and customization that I think a lot of people would enjoy if they had access to them.
@@megametexe5129 And now, your wish is about to get granted, with MMBN Legacy Collection coming next year...unless your system of choice is Xbox One or Xbox Type S/Type X.
Man I remembered the story being good, but holy crap I forgot just how good it was!!! 3 was my intro to the battle network games (as well as megaman in general) and honestly it's still possibly my overall favorite! (Though I remember really loving 5 a bunch too).
Dr Light be like:
Hmm make robots, or create the entire internet, with sentience?
Dudes a legend
One mechanic I wish got kept from these games and got expanded upon was virus breeding mechanic. I know it was more of a fetch quest in hindsight but I remember loving finding the viruses and powering up their chips.
More to ShadowStyle here: 1, invis is available in the shops.
2. ShadowStyle can have elemental charges, it just needs weapon level programs to do so
Legit watching this while at work. Love it dude. Now I want to play through the whole series again. Capcom needs to get their asses in gear and make this Battle Network Collection damn good cos I’m tired of waiting and been waiting for so freakin long. AND THEY BETTER INCLUDE ALL THE STORY AND NOT JUST THE AMERICAN SHORT STORY VERSION EITHER WITH ALL THE EXCLUSIVE CHIPS! Cos Japan always got the nicer stuff ;-;
finally, the collection is here! AND it includes the japan-only cards now fully usable. hope you have fun with it if you're still interested :)
I don't know if it was mentioned in any other comments, but many of the Number Trader codes that aren't in any of the games were actually from the NT Warrior Anime. This is actually part of the reason that the localizations of the games (especially BN4) were so rushed, they had to localize them in time with the anime, and Viz/Kids WB were trying to pump out the anime on weekly basis. I'm pretty sure some of the episodes with BN4 Number trader codes actually aired in the US months before BN4 even came out.
This is the best review of MMBN3 I came across. I watched the entire thing! Thank you so much for laying down all the pros, cons, and story elements! Really love the Battle Network series! I even chocked at the ending....
Been binging these videos ever since the Legacy Collection got announced. Awesome content man, definitely brings back the nostalgia
This might be a few months late, but great video! And Plantman's scenario hits just that little bit more when you find out the Tree of Life's theme is called "Save a Life."
I think FlameMan is meant to be based on the Wickerman.
I have a minor correction that I don't know if anyone has pointed out yet but apparently throwing the GutsMan battle does still net you the GutsMan chip regardless, Dex later on sends you in an email.
Thank you so much for making these videos dude, you are a TREASURE🙏
I grew up playing the battle network games, just listening to you playthrough is worth watching them all. Plus I can feel the nostalgia.
You know, it's funny. When you consider the Coldhead that gives the Iceball chip mentioned at 53:30 that we have to find for Mamoru, exists natively in the secret area that his navi occupies. Super rare my ass.
I have recently stumbled upon your Battle Network videos, and I am very much enjoying them!
I do think that Battle Network 3 may be the best overall game in the series. However, even though I've only played through this game in full one time, I must say, the stories from the Plant Man and Flame Man scenarios have stuck with me too this day.
By the way, I also got Wood Guts as my first style in this game (just like in this video). The three styles that I got during my playthrough were Wood Guts, Water Ground, and Heat Shield. I really liked the Wood Guts style, but I think that Water Ground was my favorite one!
This game brings back memories I remember having the Blue version while my brother had the White Version and I remember when my Megaman change version it blew my mind because we didn't look anything up and everything we found in the game we just happened to stumble upon
right this game had hella secrets. it was like a gameboy advance game but it was more stuff in this game than a console game.
Man this video made me remember how creatively evil the boss designs were in this game
I’m so glad someone’s finally talking about all these games in depth. I can’t wait to hear you talk about the other three, and maybe even the star force series too?
BN3 was the first game I played in the series, so it was an experience playing a protagonist who was so famous that a bad guy immediately wanted to kill him for the fame.
I love these videos because they’re just long enough and allow me to relive these games from my childhood when I have no patience to actually play them again 😂
I didn't know about EX codes, I have something to try out when Capcom inevitably makes a new Collection.
!!!!!! I loved growing up with this game. My dad bought me the guide and I read it over and over until it fell apart, and that still didn't stop me. This game had a lot of 'Guide dang it' moments. Thank you for going over it! Just subbed.
Not necessarily for review purposes (though wouldn't complain lol), but I would definitely recommend playing (or downloading save states/using AR codes for) the postgame of bn3. Especially for a gba game, there's a surprising amount of postgame content (few new areas, new bosses, tougher versions of old bosses, + other challenge type objectives). Imo it's the best postgame in the bn series, and out of the (many) games I've played over the years, bn3 is one of the few that I completed 100%.
Can u explain how and why mega man changes colors/elements when he is in battle? I didn’t catch it in the video
@@theArchive1O @25:14 It's called a Style Change. Basically it gives you a random element (Red = Fire, Green = Grass, Yellow = Electric, Blue = Water) and a specific style depending on how you are playing.
For example if I mainly use my buster to fight enemies, I will get the Guts Style (The big arm one) and the element will be randomly given to me.
If I mainly use battle chips I would get the Custom Style (his backpack grows lmao)
It was a really fun system to play around with because they gave you an elemental advantage that was so much fun to experiment around with.
Hope this helps! 💎
@@TitansTracks thanks! I always was trying to figure out how they were assigned but seems random.
This. The postgame is my favorite part of the game. Except the time trials. Fuck the time trials.
@@TitansTracks The element ISNT 100% random, you can increase the odds of what element you get based on what chip element you use the most (IE Use alot of water you more then likely get Water.)
The part with Mamoru reminded me of the little girl from Megaman Legends, and how hard I fought to help her. Always a heart jerker this series.
42:06 I love the animation of him falling down... Lan dang near killed the dude, just for him to get up and netbattle.
Spoilers for the post game, but, man, it would have been so touching if during the Serenade fight, they just randomly threw out that "IceBall M" attack.
I'm probably late in typing this but the fact that Bass held the gigafreeze could be a fact to two things.
He is a chosen one based on his power because it is later revealed by serenade that he thought him and almost died in doing so or he is just that strong that he can overpower the gigafreeze either way...
Bass is overpowered and i want more lore behind his descent into chaos
That is super cool when they throw moments at you like the subPET. The gameplay side of taking away your things / the bugging out of the world graphically...the need to return to the jackin point. Its very cool world building and explaining what happens should the PET get damaged and the limitations. Really well done. Especially when weve seen what happens to navis that "die" or get copied....
Also Battle Network 5....love a similar moment where you use another navi
i suppose there aren't that many of us mmbn fans, but thank you for putting in this leg work. this series alone is enough for me to subscribe. try to have fun, don't run yourself ragged playing these, it gets tough when you're doing something for the job.
This was one of my favorite games on the gba.. I didn’t finish it, I think I was was stuck after the kid with the wheelchair idk it was so long ago lol but wow this was excellently done. Good job I really appreciate this and I can’t wait for MMBN4
I'm so glad I found this video. I love the Megaman Battle Network series to a crisp, and MMBN 3 is definitely my favorite, on the account that it's the only game in the series that actually made me care about the story and characters. The introduction of Chisao, the exploration of Eugene's relationship with his father, the meeting of Mamoru and the connection Megaman made with him. So many characters came out stronger from this story.
To beat Kingman easily, before the tournament begins, you can actually talk to Cossak and he sells you a program that lets you break heavy defense with charged shots, along with a code to bypass the color restriction. This is critical to get rid of Kingman's pawns and also Metalman's gears.
Drillman can be dealt with using a deck full of wide swords like firesword, elecsword, etc. Just step aside as he charges you and slash his body as he passes by. No problem there. Easy S rank.
Aren't you going to mention that Dex stopped the bubble tank by chucking a massive boulder on top of it? That's the signature move of the Robot Master Guts Man! It's too awesome to ignore!
And yeah, Alpha. Thankfully I had a Guts Style when I reached it, and I was able to get the machine gun going more consistently. That thing melts through Alpha's slime like a hot knife through butter.
just finished watching the series so far, thank you so much for putting so much care into these! i love seeing one of my all-time favorite series get this kind of attention, extremely well done :)
This was my first Battle network game!
Same!
Same. I miss it
Same here 😭 the nostalgia is real
Its been so long but iirc woodstyle in this game was one of the best story wise as adding grassfield + undersht in the navi cust makes you almost undeletable. Unless the opponent was fire. Great for final boss battle as you just can just stand in the back row and be immortal.
Had to split watching this video up into two days to get through the length but honestly so worth it! BN3 is definitely the best story wise and I think difficulty wise too. I do wish you covered the post game because it's really interesting but given the length of this video I totally understand why you didn't. As much as everyone hates BN4 I'm still excited for your commentary on it
So! I know that the number machine numbers were, in part, promo things- they were like a lot of japanese handheld games, "Hey, come over to your local store and buy the magazine with a bunch of extra codes/watch the anime/etc." sorta things. Pokemon did stuff like that too, it's dumb.
You could buy wafer treats in the game at the Zoos station they have codes there.
Damn never thought I would see a 2 hour video on Battle network 3 well done man
Great video, I've played this game the msot out of the series and it's the FIRST time I head about EX Codes lmao
That's flipping awesome that those codes exist!
I use to own a strategy guide for this game and it didn't mention ANYTHING about the EX Codes
So I had been slowly getting back into Battle Network and found these videos while looking for Battle Network music to listen to. I gotta say it's been great watching these retrospectives. And although you only really cover the main plot and not the postgame, it's still pretty great to look back on these and how far the series has evolved. Hopefully the rumor of a Battle Network Collection comes true so we can experience these in full again... for better or worse. Not looking forward to the return of CERTAIN minigames (cough100Samuraicough).
Thank you for keeping the conversation around these games alive. I look forward to seeing you explore the rest of the series (and Starforce if the burnout doesn't eat at you first)!
I watched this video so happy to remember one of my favorite games from my childhood, and after watching I helped move some things for my parents in their basement and found my entire old gba video game collection including Megaman 3 white version. Your video was a sign!
Throughout the series I actually really love Lan and Hub’s chemistry.
this was great! i’m playing through 5 right now and i miss these games so much! thanks for the 3 recap.
How in the world did I watch 2 freaking hours of this review without stopping once? It was definitely a blast from the past. Younger me didn't really have the patience for grinding, so I stopped playing the game right after you meet Marmarou. Nice to see how everything played out. : D
The greatest battle network game ever (closely followed by 6). I miss this series. Great video!
You skipped bowl man and mistman as number 2 during the undernet ranking arc, but I'm stoked to see mmbn3 getting love- keep up the great work man!
