I do like the dirt thing too. I might steal that to use myself sometimes. It's great for showing one part of the problem with that argument - that just because some monkeys "became" human, doesn't mean that ALL monkeys did, just like not all the dirt was used to create Adam.
I usually go with "If I came from my mom, why do I still have a brother?" since that is more accurate to how evolution works.

They (the religious leaders of old and today) want their followers to be as stressed as possible, to feel like they are never doing enough, to feel an urge to drag more people into the flock. The priest class cannot be watching over their shoulders at all times so they created this whole system to implant those ideas into the heads of the believers. That God knows everything, that they will be judged, that they are already behind the 8 ball and sinful, and they must endeavor to fix themselves, and that target is always just out of reach. Religion has screwed this world up.
In the grand scheme of things, anything a republican, MSM media talking head , evangelist, or white supremacist says means nothing.
Understanding the past is not an American, MSM media, nor especially a republican, evangelist, or a white supremacist trait. It is a human trait. We are screwed as long as republicans, MSM media talking heads, evangelists, or white supremacists have any sway in our discourse.
Shit happens because evangelists, republicans, MSM meat heads, and white supremacist asswipes have a say in our government.
      Deflection, distraction, and projection.
This is the republican/evangelist/white supremacist playbook.
I have one question for republicans/evangelists/white supremacists. What have you done in the last 50 years to help people that aren't dickhead rich cretins or brain dead sheep?
When any of the many republican reactions fail, republicans/evangelists/white supremacists fall back on their primary trait; Deception (lying).
Face it, people, as long as meat headed republicans and the needle dicks known as white supremacists and the con men known as evangelists have a say in our government we are screwed!
How does this shit happen (Rhetorical)?
Shit happens because we allow racism/sexism to exist.
Shit happens because rich people don't care about US or climate change.
Shit happens because republicans, corporatists, and evangelists want our society to be functionally misanthropic.
Shit happens because we haven't taught our kids right from wrong.
Shit happens because we are ruled by misanthropes who don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.
Shit happens because we don't care anymore that republicans have made a mess of everything and that "R"s will save US.
Shit happens because we don't have proper media coverage.
Shit happens because we don't care anymore.
Republicans (who are mostly white supremacists, evangelicals, corporatists are not your friends.) They are the ooze from your backside and the meat from your nose.
I would like to believe we are better than that.
I can not be troubled by these assholes.
They will continue to screw US over until they have won.
The best/worst part is that when they win they will inherit the wind.
We are ruled by corporations and evangelical miscreants.
This whole world is a SHITSHOW!
We seem to be screwed no matter which way we turn.

My favorite part, as it is indicative of how little thought he actually allows himself to think, is when he said (paraphrased because I do not want to transcribe it):
"There are atheists (presumably previously) who now have testimonies because they went to hell and came back" and followed it with "It is appointed to man once to die and be judged" in the same thought, but did not realize how that creates a contradiction.
He would probably try to hand wave it and say that they were not *really* judged and since God wanted them to come back it did not actually count as death, but that is a pretty silly argument given that they were clearly judged and their spirit clearly left their body. Further the evangelical doctrine on "spiritual death" is that it is separation from God, and that hell embodies that. So going to hell requires both death and judgement.
For them to return then and convert means one or more of:
    1. The Bible is wrong, and a bunch of people live twice, die twice and are judged twice.
    2. The Bible is right, and those people did not go to hell, and are either liars or their faith is based on a hallucination.
    3. The Bible is non literal and should not be interpreted like a document of science, and is only speaking in generalities or with mistaken information.
The last one would obviously be preferable to a religious person from a logical standpoint. Though the distinction from the first is subtle, in the last case it is at least intentionally wrong rather than God just doing a bad job "writing through people." The second is bad because it implies that God is fine calling people to him through outright deception, as they could "only understand" the word if called in Calvinist theology, which he clearly seems to ascribe to.
However, if the last one is picked, biblical literalists tend to lose their minds. They cannot figure out how to interpret the text in any way other than absolutes, and so if even a single portion of it is giving false information they immediately create a false dichotomy where any party being wrong or non-literal means ALL of it cannot possible be true. This is why they double down do hard on things like Young Earth Creationism and spend so much time trying to convince people the that current books must be the only useful ones, because God would not have let humans possibly accidentally pick the wrong books. E.G.: Despite there being multiple traditions with different books., obviously only the evangelical ones are the real ones, even though the bible never says god will do that, nor even implies it.
The more you pull at that thread, the more unraveled the entire worldview gets. I originally left church before I stopped being evangelical because I realized that my basic questions, using the bible as my primary source, had a tendency to make people panic. But I could not stop asking them. It became a whole thing.

It's likely a response to the constant conflation of atheism & misotheism - diffiding in or devoid of a held god creed & hatred of a held god creed.
I was under the impression that the two are mutually exclusive, as misotheism implies hatred of a creed god they themselves hold as existentially true, but that minor detail would be outright rejected by anatheists - those that doubt atheists authentically exist, as it's creed god's word against ours or whatever.
