My understanding is that the Christian version of Heaven and Hell are influenced by something written by the Greeks.
This is probably my favorite of your videos Tick. At least from a comedic standpoint, you knocked it out of the park. @@HalfEye79 I had this same discussion with a guy yesterday. I'm not going to argue the point with you but only suggest that you google "is iron maiden hoax" or something similar. It will only take you a couple minutes. I am over 50 years old and always thought the iron maiden was real but apparently some things have been revealed about the way museums presented the evidence for that particular device.

Correction to the preecher. That was not an Iron Maiden he was describing but a brazen bull or bronze bull. A bronze statue made to cook the condemned alive by lighting a fire underneath and throwing the convicted inside. It was designed by a sculpter(don’t remember names) so that their screams of agony would sound like a bull grunting and snarling. Their bodies rocking back and fourth while burning in agony would shake the bull also, giving the effect of the statue coming to life as the poor soul inside underwent one of the worst deaths imaginable.

Other countries such as Sweden, and much of Europe are WAY more atheistic. I never bought into it, even as an 8 year old in Sunday school, the stories felt made up and not real because even at 8, I knew it would require magic. Magic isn’t real. It's not terrifying it's rage inducing
That's not an iron maiden, and the iron maiden wasn't actually a real thing. It was made up by a museum curator who literally had a human-sized cage-box and a bunch of spikes on hand.
I mean to be fair it's like medieval torture was definitely extremely brutal. And you don't even have to really make anything up about it but to be fair the devices themselves were typically pretty simple like basically a soft horse but with a triangle on top instead of a flat surface

The doctrine of eternal Hell is a major teaching that shows God is a sadist. Christians say it's deserved punishment. Except it doesn't even classify as punishment (let alone deserved). Punishment is finite. It's employed to change behaviour. The idea being that one stops doing the Bad Thing for which they were punished and do the Good Things, instead. If it has no end, it serves no function other than to torture someone. There's no opportunity to repent and live a better life. Just burn. Which, I guess, God is in to. 1. I am indeed an atheist and have been one since my mid teens. All that that tells you about me is that I do not believe that any god or gods exist because I have not been presented with what I regard as sufficient evidence for any of them.
2. I am indeed fond of high technology because of the benefits that it brings. That does not mean however that I worship it. I am well aware that high tech comes with a corresponding cost and has it's drawbacks.

As far as I have been able to determine Colonel Tarleton didn't burn any churches full of people during the Revolutionary War. So I wonder if the preacher was ignorant of this or if he used it anyway knowing it wasn't an accurate depiction of events?
