I've repaired many "modern saws" in my life, but I've never messed with a saw that has points, thank you for this information! Even if I can't be a saw mechanic any longer,I still want to learn. Thanks, Tinman,I look forward to your content every day!
I've worked on small engines for nigh 60 years. Hint: use a snowmobile grip on stout saws, it'll save your shoulder. Recovering from a bad shoulder & I doubt if I'll be able to ever start a really stout saw again. After all these years something finally gave out.
Your UA-cam’n just keeps getting better and better! All my saws that I use are runners now thanks to you and ppl like you🙏 but now I like ya so much I just keep watching and learning🤓
Congrats on getting the sack of dolmar running. I can't wait to see how she cuts when you get it dialed. If the carb body is wallered where the throttle shaft passes though, try cutting bushings out of brass tubing. Drill the holes to fit, epoxy in place and hone to size. It's something I adapted from slotcar building. Thanks for the content! Cheers.
Thanks for all the info. Got the bug now. Gonna pull apart my light duty Crapsman saw that sucked the crumbling air filter into the carb, clean up the ports and mold marks. Ordered a new carb, timing wheel, calipers, and other items. Then I'll move onto my new 350 Rancher and tweak it a bit. When I feel confident, I'll tackle a very old Homelite beast, probably 70+ y/o.
My SD123 had no spark,I cleaned under the mount screws area and there is a little room to move the coil closer to the flywheel magnets.Tightened screws while holding coil in the furthest outward position and WA LA blue spark!!
Tinman this timing info is invaluable to the saw community, as the new saws seem to be. Cheap use till they give up and though away😱 or so technical, the average Joe can not work on them. This new playlist your going to do will become great reference material 👍 imho
When I had my small engine shop there were different ignition modules to fit different coil types might be. That ingnition system requires a different module to fire correctly
Beast of a saw for sure, glad to see it sorted out. Great information video once again, always learning something from your content. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
Excellent work Tinman. I knew you would get it to work sooner or later. I love that Dolmar and i know how you feel when you make something work again. Its a really good feeling. Great work and please keep it up🙂
Great content Tinkan. Some Stihl 064 and 066 had a double keyway flywheel. I will have to mod my red light flat top 066 when the old coil fails. You can't get the red light coil anymore. Thanks for the info.
My grandpa has an 066 red light and that thing tears up anything we put it in, it's scary to use sometimes lol, he also has an 044 magnum that I absolutely love
I was mucking around with a wakka nusan demolition saw that i have now hung up on the wall as art. As far as i can work out its a dollar chainsaw. I ended up using on of those chip ignition things and couldn’t ever get it to run right. Timing is something that i had over looked. Thanks tin man ill give this a crack. I do have a question about it though I’ve been looking for the parts to turn it back in to a chainsaw ie oil pump oil line oil cap chain brake and handle can any one help me with this. I should mention I’m in Australia. Tia
im about ready to see you go back to the echo. you may want to reach out to Charles Brisco, he seems pretty good with the echos and seems cool enough to maybe help out. if you got a new cylinder.
It would be pretty cool if you sifted through the saws people want you to build for them and pick the interesting ones. You don't seem like the kind of fellow to charge a pretty penny but if you did it could make for some cool videos and maybe could help you get in a bigger shop one day :)
i so agree with everything you say. i have been fighting with a few saws with this same problem. old husq saws looked at ign modules and flywheels not old enough for fly wheel adjustment. one was carbon on the piston. the other changing coil and cleaning piston still hard kick back. i dont get to work on saws as big as you. i work on any saw that comes into the shop. How do i get in touch with you?
Hi mr Tin Man good got question if dont mind i am currently looking for a fresh or new air for 153 sachs dolmar you surpose you where to one from these day ol paL please much appreciated the videos you and provide alot of important information that needs to understood and passed on down many thanks take easy
Now's your chance to get that timing number documented with a light. then you can always go back. I find with a saw like that, that very short pulls will save the shoulder. Nobody has any strength when they have 30 inches of cord out. Eventually you have to stop pulling.
So how did you fix it? was it a timing issue all along? I fixed a mcculloch 4-10 that took me a year; it had the dreaded bullfrog carb and beat points/condenser; had to make an intake for it to use a walbro HDC; point is; i love your tenacity to keep at a project and follow a same ethic. Anyway what did you do? thanks.
to advance the timing by rotating the flywheel you removed the key? so you're running this without a flywheel key? you never mentioned this. what's up? great show!
Does anyone have experience with a Makita/dolmar 7900. I need to upgrade to a bigger saw and it caught my eye ,but the few people I've heard talk about said they were lackluster. I'll only be cutting Australian woods. Should I go with a tried and tested saw or will the dolmar be sufficient?
Hello Tinman, any chance you remember how much you advance the flywheel in relation with the flywheel key? As ignition plate I have it advanced all the way but still nothing. And have you cut new key on the flywheel? Regards Dorin.
@@tinmanssaws Much appreciated for the reply, I think even the chip modules might be little different one to another on releasing the spark, I tried without the key and it fired but flywheel nut undo herself once popped as is not perfect timing. Once again thank you for replying. Regards Dorin
Hey Tinman, are you sure the fuel is leaking from the throttle shaft and not from the H or L screws? When you were pushing on the throttle shaft you bumped your L screw and it looked really sloppy.

👌 noice!! That’s exactly what I worked out today💪 I’ll be sticking my 152 in wood Sunday morning

Good sir you’ve answered so many of my questions with this video. I have short of a similarity with a 281xp.
Very interesting! Thanx for explaining the ignition system. It makes sense 👍
Great timing explanation! So glad you got er runnin again!
Very good buddy!
I knew you would figure it out! Good work sir
Great vid , thanks for sharing your experiences 👌💨💨
I knew you would get it going. Love all your videos brother.
Thanks Paul
man my forearms and elbows kill at the end of the day after i get home from installing 1-2 furnaces! alot of sniping!!
Good job like alway Tinman. 😊
Sounds great. Wow a ton of great information !

There's a tool the factory issued to dealers for the timing but good luck on finding 1.
im about ready to see you go back to the echo. you may want to reach out to Charles Brisco, he seems pretty good with the echos and seems cool enough to maybe help out. if you got a new cylinder.
Would love to have a 100cc saw, got some large cedar and fir that I need to buck up
I’m the same way buddy when we are a one man team we can only do so much eh
U do extremely well sir. Thank u for all u do.
Had some luck building up a worn throttle shaft with JB weld and sanding it down till it fit right!

great show!
Also do you have a lathe? You could potentially remake a the throttle shaft if you did to reconditioned the old carby
You can order throttle shaft bushings repair kit that will repair that carb
awesome its running now

They are awesome! If you do a serious muffler mod or add a home made pipe, they really rip!
Can you strip the chip to figure out what the original one was, how it functions, resistance, polarity etc and make your own?
Will we see this in wood soon?
A dog with a bone???🤣🤣🤣
Awesome!!
Hello Tinman, any chance you remember how much you advance the flywheel in relation with the flywheel key? As ignition plate I have it advanced all the way but still nothing. And have you cut new key on the flywheel?

This one's like 2 widths of the key advanced

I’m just learning about Dolmar saws and I’d like to know if a 9000 is a good saw?
Hey Tinman, are you sure the fuel is leaking from the throttle shaft and not from the H or L screws? When you were pushing on the throttle shaft you bumped your L screw and it looked really sloppy.
The l is sloppy because its turned out too far. It could be leaking though.
What are your thoughts on kickback with these big saws in cold weather, worse? What about a saw running rich, worse?
Kickbacks are always bad lol
How do you tell when to mess with ignition timing?
Keren bos 👍 mantap 👍👍👍
Maybe the throttle plate screw is loose.
Looks like a crank seal leaking, better check the bearings as well.
So, it’s running without a flywheel key?
Yep no key.
@@tinmanssaws 👍👍👍
Sweeeeeeet!
Nice
I live in Pennsylvania 😎
Tinman there located in Pennsylvania
Question of the day: Can I put School of Tinman Saws on my resume?
Answer : yes lol
Excuses Excuses
Hmmm my 2100 dose that but not as bad. I will heck this
