    suggestion. get an automotive induction type timing light and a 12 volt battery to power the light. Clamp the induction lead on your spark plug wire. Remove the plug, ground it with clamps so that it has conductivity but there is no compression, which will allow easy turnover of the saw. Attach your timing wheel, just eyeball it to top dead center. Use a power driver and socket to rotate the flywheel which generates the impulse. This should give you a crude reference point for where the spark is happening in the stroke cycle. Your wire pointer is bent over the timing wheel, just like the index marker on a automotive engine and by holding the timing strobe over the index marker it should cast a shadow on the timing wheel.Or at least the event of the flash you will be able to roughly see about where the signal to fire is happening. I suspect your timing is miles off. Could be the way the chip conversion is installed or could be the chip itself is not properly calibrated for that saw application. The after market solid state chips and even coils of some saws are very specific to a certain set of design criteria in order to work and variations in saw OEM design(specifically the exact timing) can be different which makes a one size fits all modern chip replacement a probable failure. This deal is growing brain cells Tinman, hang in there.

    I'm into big old Stihl saws Tinman, and have never replaced a set of points in one. But the condensers in those saws give up pretty easy. I start with the easy stuff first and it usually fixes it. Take care of that shoulder son. We're only born with two of them

    It’s actually very similar to a Sachs moped ignition. Your timing is unfortunately way off and you will love a timing light once you have one. Opens a door for tuning!
    Mopeds were my gateway to saws! And timing is crucial on those. Luckily bosch points ignitions are some of the best

    Hey Tinman, I had one of these a later model without thumb oil pumper and it was a B to start if it didn't fire first pull. what I had to do was remove spark plug put back on lead hold plug in hole and pull over till it pops the fuel, then close both H&L jets then pull over as per normal choke if cold nonif warm, it fires up then open the L jet 11/2 turns Then move on to the H jet slowly up to that 1 1/2 turn Point, thinking back wise in hindsight type of thing maybe 1 1/2 is to far on the L jet, this was back in the 80's and it was my second saw that i brought new and I was a young fellow and lacked some knowledge on the saw, and it was still under warranty and the Dealer where I got it broke the Cam shaft thread off worse than you did and needed welding and rethreading,and cracked the Clutch Cross so after the chain always spun, they were a Yamaha Bike/ Dolmar Dealer. Hope this helps you get it going, but is a time waster when getting Firewood, and have to let it Idle if you have do other things, refuelling can be a pain though! All the best.

    As soon as you pulled off that flywheel I immediately recognized it as a bosch. I don't have a ton of experience on saws but I've worked on a lot of mopeds from around the same vintage of this saw. I've never seen a bad ignition coil (I've also never seen one with JB weld on it either). I have, however, seen a lot of bad condensers cause similar issues. I'd say to try and find a new set of points and condenser and try it again.
    Your idea of removing the key and trying to see about timing sounds like a good start. Just don't hold on to that pull cord too tight.
    If you have a 6 month old, don't waste a second. Everyone says it goes by way too fast and it absolutely does. Mine will be 6 this week and I would give anything to go back and have her fall asleep in my arms again.
    Good luck

    Hi Tinman, I once put a chip in a 123 like you did in this 153. I had to advance the flywheel a lot, about 30 degrees. Had to leave out the fly wheel key. Turned out the chip fired at tdc. Check with timing light. Used the mark on the fly wheel / case. Make a new mark with timinglight to compare.
    It will run like new.

    Tinman thats the Problem i told you in the comments of your last Video about that Saw. Its way off in Timing. These Ignition Modules are not working on these ignitions plug and play. Check the Ignitiontiming with a timinglight and use your degreewheel to set a new Keyway into the Flywheel. Let it fire about 20 deg before top dead center.
    My Dolmar 143 has that same Ignition. I built that saw with your Knowledge. I got a video on my channel running it. watch that Timing or she eats your Hand and Shoulder. thanks Budd.

    I once had a very similar issue with a old pioneer and it turned out to be the spark plug. with a horizontal spark plug it had to be clocked so the electrode was open to the chamber and bang it started I just marked the plug and shimmed it with a copper washer might be worth a check.

I’m glad to have it running it has very few hours on it. • @moonshine21.37
    @moonshine21.37 Рік тому

    Maybe the problem is in the magnets. A "normal" flywheel has one magnet so it passes the coil one time per revolution, here we have four of them and maybe the saw is sparking four times per revolution or it can't build up enough energy because the magnets are triggering the chip four times.

    • @William_Charles_Baker
      @William_Charles_Baker Рік тому

      With the Bosch ignition the flywheel actually has four poles (magnets) to make both components of the system work. One north pole and three south pole magnets. This creates a magnetic field that first excites the coil then the trigger module so that it can then trigger the coil (which was previously excited).
