At first, everyone was laughing and having fun. They thought, "Oh, they're using Yasuke again," and "It's another strange depiction of Japan." But then, in an interview with UBI staff, they claimed that beheading was an everyday occurrence and that the game was faithful to historical facts. This statement made the Japanese, who had been laughing and enjoying it up until then, point out that it was historically inaccurate, causing a problem. The issue escalated when UBI's CEO called the Japanese person who pointed out the historical inaccuracies a racist. Subsequently, concerns arose that Lockley's historical revisionism would lead to a second Yoshida Seiji problem. Now, UBI is refusing to apologize for their copyright infringement, insisting that the infringing parts cannot be removed because they have already been printed. They are trying to crush and erase the copyright infringement issue they committed, taking advantage of the fact that the party affected by their infringement is a small non-profit organization.

Yasuke was at best a retainer and oddity and had no family which shows that he was not really integrated much. The final historical account was a statement of the enemy of Oda: "He is just a stupid animal, give him back to the Jesuits." As a Samurai he would have been killed or demanded to commit suicide. Especially the final entry of his story shows that he was not treated with dignity, honor nor anywhere close to a Samurai. The English teacher Thomas Lockley made up a bunch of stories and also believed one impoverished Japanese family who claim to be descendants of Oda Nobunaga - they live in some rural shithole and have a discredited Oda museum running there. There is zero proof that they descended from Oda nor that anything they said is true in the least. Yasuke spent 15 months in Japan and was likely an oddity by Oda. His Japanese language skills were likely minimal after that time and he was given back to the slave-trading Jesuits who might as well have sold him off to some colonies for all we know. This African was likely only talked about because he was the only African man in Japan and Oda elevated him to a glorified mascot and servant status. There was never enough time to do any sword training or even learn Japanese decently. That Lockley guy is clearly politically motivated and his account of hte history borders on insanity.

I completely agree with all of this.

@@DashBlueit’s so funny how it took japanese men around 5-6 years to become fully accredited samurai, and even then it wasn’t accessible to easily 95% of the population. So for anyone to claim that a black slave managed to be a fully accredited samurai in 13-15 months is absolutely hilarious 😂

@@officebear4637 If Ubisoft really wanted Yasuke as a protagonist, they could have made him an assassin that works in secret, to give an justification on how he did amazing things while being remembered as basically a nobody. Instead, they made him an full fledged samurai that does all of the assassination in broad daylight and requires a lot of bending history.

It is entirely possible that he wasn't even African, the South of India and South Asian islands have people with black skin who the Portuguese also interacted with extensively. I mean they ended up with lots of Japanese slaves in their colonies in that time period, they weren't picky about who they brought.

    • @SylvainOfGandahar
      @SylvainOfGandahar 3 місяці тому +6

@@vorynrosethorn903 Totally possible and even more likely. Though an Indian warrior might have integrated way more easily. And even then - there is zero chance that they would let him roam the countryside of Japan and have him behead local Japanese men willy-nilly - even for a European man - it would have been impossible to do that back in those days. Utterly insane story all around. Even today imagine a white or black Japanese policeman going Yakuza hunting - people would report that bloke instantly and would not believe him to be an officer at all.

English (英語): Japanese people do not hate Yasuke.
Yasuke was abducted from his homeland by white people, forcibly sold as a slave, and struggled to survive.
Even after his death, Yasuke's dignity was violated by white people.
Japanese people feel great sympathy for Yasuke.
People who falsify history are truly cruel to Yasuke!
If you treat the dead badly, their spirits will curse you.
And the land and surrounding areas will be affected, and everything will become unhappy.
    This is called impurity.
Japanese people are very afraid of impurity, and exorcise it.
So to calm it down, Japanese people have written a song that says "Yasuke is not bad" and hold a festival to appease his spirit.
Shrines are dedicated not only to people who have made great achievements, but also to those who have been treated poorly.
In Japan, the dead become Buddhas.
Did you know that the grave of Oda Nobunaga, who burned down Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei, is located in the Buddhist Mount Koya?
Japan is a fusion of Shinto and Buddhism from ancient times.
Japanese people have the sense that everything has a soul and that there are 8 million gods (meaning almost infinite).
Sacred things are found in the nature of Japan.
Japanese people have worshipped nature since ancient times.
Japanese people also worship gods from overseas.
Many Buddhist statues are of Hindu origin.
Buddhism originated in India, but has now fallen into disuse.
Sanskrit, an ancient Indian script, remains in Japan.
Japanese Buddhism today uses the characters for gods (Sanskrit letters) written in Sanskrit.
It is the nature of the Japanese to classify and record everything.
Murasaki Shikibu, a Japanese "female" writer, wrote about the aristocratic society of Japan 1000 years ago in her novel, The Tale of Genji.
The world's oldest novel is The Tale of Genji.
    What is diversity?
Diversity has been in Japan for over 1000 years.
Please don't teach us Japanese people with Sweet Baby's nonsensical "political correctness movement."
    It's completely unnecessary.
If there were black slaves in Japan, it would have been extremely rare, so there would surely have been records.
It's nearly impossible to erase all evidence.
Also, Japan has had the same dynasty since 660 BC.
Unlike China, there is no custom of burning the books of the previous civilization every time a dynasty changes.
It is completely irrational to transport people from the African continent to Japan in the Middle Ages.
People who tamper with history use some pretty strange theories. Don't you see the contradiction?
What I'm worried about is rather people who tamper with history.
Because the people who are launching this "act of war" against Japan are mocking not only the Japanese people, but also the ancient Japanese gods.
Have you seen how torii gates are used in games and at Japan Expo?
Torii gates are not just gates.
Torii gates represent the boundary between the real world and the hidden world.
Torii gates often seal away violent spirits.
What would happen if a fake torii gate was used as a mere decoration at a French game festival?
It would mean that the gods are not respected.
And doing something like that at a festival where many people gather!
    Something terrible could happen.
Japanese people are upset because they feel this is not right.
People who tamper with history are promoting the "political correctness movement," so why don't they respect our "Japanese culture"?
    Don't you care about Asia?
Japan's history has been tampered with by other countries many times.
Japan is an indigenous people of Asia that was not "physically" colonized.
Somehow, the Japanese language and beliefs have survived to the present.
There are still forces that want to colonize Asia's ancient wisdom and culture.
This tampering with history has even angered the Japanese gods.
Japan's ancient gods will swiftly and mercilessly reap the karma of those who tamper with history.
I hope that those who tamper with history will change their ways as soon as possible.

English (英語): Now I've realized something unpleasant.
UBI is intentionally getting everything wrong.
      This game is a curse.
      It's full of ominous symbols.
It's just disrespectful and disrespectful mistakes towards everything.
⚪ Yasuke swings a club around, brutally killing villagers and samurai.
The club is a demon's weapon.
Black people are not treated as human.
Rather, it is a metaphor that they are demons.
They seem to praise black people as warriors, but in reality, they are laughed at behind their backs as demons.
⚪ Yasuke is wearing armor in the city.
They don't notice how unnatural it is for him to wear armor in the city.
It means that black people are stupid.
⚪ The string (string, knot) on Yasuke's helmet is a decorative knot for a May doll (a doll displayed to pray for the healthy growth of boys).
It is a metaphor that black people are nothing more than dolls, marionettes.
      ⚪ Yasuke is gay.
There are almost no descriptions of Yasuke, and of course there is no evidence that he is gay.
I read somewhere that being gay is a huge discrimination in the black community.
As a result, Yasuke is initially praised as a samurai, but in the end, he is further degraded by being gay.
⚪ The family crest on Yasuke's armor is upside down. It's an insult to the samurai.
They secretly mock Yasuke for not knowing the difference.
      ⚪ Offering incense at shrines.
      Shintoism does not offer incense.
They don't care about the difference between Buddhism and Shintoism.
They have no respect for gods or Buddhas.
They are making fun of Japanese gods and Buddhas.
In fact, they think it's fine to be disrespectful.
      ⚪ A samurai sitting upright
It looks like the samurai is being scolded
A metaphor that Japanese people are inferior
⚪ The Japanese villagers are constantly bowing to Yasuke
It creates a hierarchy where Asians are inferior to black people
It creates a conflict structure and makes them fight each other
⚪ The swords on display are replicas of the One Piece manga
It makes fun of traditional Japanese crafts
      Japanese people deserve fake swords
⚪ The way chopsticks are placed at Japan Expo is Chinese style
      All Asians are the same
It makes fun of them and says they don't matter
The way Japanese chopsticks are placed means that there is a barrier between you and the food
It makes fun of Japanese traditions and says they don't matter
⚪The Buddha statue is used in reverse. By inverting it, the Buddha's hands are facing the opposite direction, which makes it disrespectful.
Also, inverting a kimono or a kesa (Buddhist clothing) in reverse gives it an ominous meaning.
⚪The Buddha statue is a Chinese Buddha statue. ⚪The rice fields are Myanmar rice fields. ⚪The monkeys are not Japanese monkeys.
They mix it up with other Asian things and use it.
They mock Asians and say they are all the same.
They make fun of Asian culture.
They make fun of all Asians.
Japanese people basically live by the belief that people are good, so I didn't notice it.
But I can't get the discomfort that wells up inside me.
I don't want to express my anger, but I can't help it.
Because this game is a curse.
It's unpleasant because I'm being attacked by symbols, and anger rises up as a reflex.
What's even more unpleasant is that there are Asians who are participating in this curse. Of course, there are Japanese who have this knowledge and have sold out their country.
Tencent (a Chinese company) is involved in this game.
They want to make Asians fight each other again.
They are also trying to add black people to the mix.
There are no white people in this game.
(Not all white people are bad, but the white people who are plotting this are evil)
The history rewriting movement generates a huge amount of money.
The people who want wars for money are manipulating ordinary citizens like marionettes.
This game will ignite conflict between innocent ordinary citizens.
There is a Japanese proverb that says, "If you curse someone, you dig two holes."
This means that when you curse someone, you are digging your own grave as well as the other person's.
The Japanese must return the curse.
If each ordinary citizen can see through this curse, the curse will return to the person who cast it.
Tomorrow, I will go to Abe no Seimei Shrine and pray.
Abe no Seimei is an onmyoji from the Heian period.
I will go around Kyoto and visit all the shrines and temples to pray.

If anything we can thank Ubisoft for making AC Shadows as their sloppiness led to Lockley getting completely exposed for being a fraud, I watch Japanese period dramas, particularly ones that are set in either Heian, Kamakura, Muromachi and Sengoku Period. I haven’t seen the Nobunaga dramas but one particular historical drama, Gunshi Kanbei, which is about the life of Kuroda Kanbei, an important Toyotomi vassal, had a portrayal of Yasuke. Unlike what Lockley is trying to tell use, Yasuke in that drama is only shown in 2 scenes in one episode. His presentation to Nobunaga himself that the only time he talked is when he repeated “Yasuke”, most of the talking is done by his Jesuit handlers. The other one is when he was with Nobunaga and Lady No/Noh on a barge when Azuchi Castle was presented.
Pages don’t sit level with their lords, they are located either behind or in front of him depending on the affair. The only ones who could sit level with the lord is his wife and even that is not always the case.

@@DashBlue Yeah, kinda but the historian working with NHK, which produces many Japanese historical dramas, clearly stayed with what Japanese historical texts said about Yasuke, which they kept in 2 scenes. Thank goodness, they never referred to Lockley's fanfiction.
They are insinuating that since Hideyoshi became a samurai, Yasuke could but here's the thing, Hideyoshi started as a sandal-bearer and Ashigaru when Nobunaga was just the young heir to Owari. He rose with Nobunaga but he also earned his own feats to back it up. While other daimyos call Hideyoshi an "upstart", they do recognize his feats.

there's this scenario in my head where ubisoft could've written 2 different characters in his current place in AC Shadows. this is gonna be a long one, so please bear with me.
so instead of making Yasuke one of the MCs, make the game focused on solely Naoe but they can write Yasuke as a mission provider NPC or some sort, or even one of Naoe's mentors.
then this is where another character comes in. it's gonna be a black female (yes. this is where i had to play the checkmark game because it's a western media company we're talking about), she's gonna be "recruited" by Nobunaga the same time as Yasuke but due to her being an Assassin, she's not gonna be recorded in the book due to all that "being a hidden one in the shadows, in the dark to serve the light" code or some sort.
so Yasuke is gonna recruit Naoe into becoming an Assassin but her master will be this new character. i don't think Yasuke is the most agile character there with his tanky build, so this is where Naoe's female master comes in. she has stronger physique than most japanese females due to her being Yasuke's relative, you can say that. she's gonna guide Naoe throughout the game and will have her own standalone, spinoff DLC with her background story as its content. this way the game will be more enjoyable as we won't need to juggle around the stories & mechanics of 2 entirely different characters to focus on Naoe's life alone. the development time that otherwise would've been wasted to cook stuff for yasuke could be reallocated towards writing a better, detailed & satisfying story about Naoe so AC will have its identity back as a story-driven game franchise, not this Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima, old Assassin's Creed wannabe that voids of any identity.
they successfully brought Aveline's story into a standalone DLC more than a decade ago, so why not cook up something similar today, yknow

Nobody dismounts a horse like that and they didn't even have to know anything about Japan to get that one right...there's just no reason for it to be so weird.

I'm a bit late to this, but with the promotional image of art that they released: Ubisoft uses a method of creating art called photobashing where they take stock photos or photos they have taken themselves and paint over it to get the final result. It's pretty common in the industry because it's so fast. That being said: using the photos the artist used is a bad because it's hardly thematic.

The last part with the concept art definitely shows the poor quality, but also that's one of the issues with Hollywood and Western game studios, their concept art is usually a mashup of copyrighted photographs that are touched up with paintovers, and they've been doing it for a long time with no shame, It's because of the quick turnover time and deadlines. Which in this case, makes AI look more appealing to use and less blatant of a copyright infringement.

You can see Ubisoft's attitude of no Fs given after they publish that recent "apology" to Japan. Which basically is "sorry not because we're wrong, but sorry because we got caught or you feeling that way" kind of bs. They still gonna release the game even after all the backlash and complaints. Unless Japan did the cleopatra move then we might see some changes. Anyway another awesome video. Keep it up!

a woman with a sword on her back walking through the middle of the village and being a shinobi?? what? ???? ... And I may be wrong but isn't Naoe a man's name?

    • @DashBlue
      @DashBlue  5 місяців тому +3

yeah shinobi are the same thing as spies in the modern world, you'd never know they were a shinobi because they just blend in perfectly into normal society
killing was also a last ditch option and they would do everything they could to not do it, because it could cause conflict and would defeat the purpose of being a spy
Naoe seems to be a unisex name, of course Ubi would pick a name like that

Ghost of Tsushima is a brilliant game. It is hard. But it is fun and the theme is brilliant. Idk if its accurate to japanese culture. do the developer even ride a motorcycle or even a bicycle (how much research they perform before start development)? even you never ride a horse (like I did), but from riding a bike you know how to dismount correctly, it's like a muscle memory that we inherit from our ancestor. when mount, if you approach from left side, put left foot on ground/pedal, swing right foot from back of the bike to the right side of the bike. And on dismount, put the left foot on ground/pedal, swing right foot from right side of bike to back of the bike and land on the left of the bike. You don't swing right foot to front of the bike and dismount. It's muscle memory, how hard it can be??? this rules doesn't apply to scooter, scooter has hollow between seat and front/head of the bike (maybe this is the reason they doesn't know basic muscle memory, but even I daily ride scooter still use basic muscle memory).
