I have asked why the graft is painted black and someone told me in comment section, it was referencing the cool black Mustang back in those days. Then it clicks, yes I remember boys drooling on those cool rides.
I think there was a comment on the IGN version of the PV that says, “if you can never make them happy, you might as well just go all the way and offend all of them” referring to the DEI wackos
1. The truck is from 恐竜戦队コセイドン,first ever japanses 特摄片 import to china in 80s. Funny most Japanese may never heard of it but its so famous in china. 2. the human cannon in the last scene is also from this TV show. The name of the truck is from another Japanese anime 天元突破. 3. The scene of six men forming one is from 战神金刚. Interestingly, 战神金刚 was re-edited by Americans from two Japanese anime 百兽王 and 机甲战队 then exported to China. "I'll form the head" is the battle slogan of the characters, and almost every Chinese boy born in the 80s knows it. 4.that pub names 北国之春 is from a Japanese song made in 1977 which was very popular in china back in 80s. 5.The way the Wind and Thunder Brothers enter the game is from the Japanese game Contra(魂斗罗).
When an unknown Chinese dev does more research and gives a more accurate representation of an 80s fictional Japanized America than a AAAA studio did for a 'historical accurate' Sengoku(?) Era Japan. 😂
There was an authorised translated/re-lyric version of それが大事 in Chinese (Cantonese) called 红日 and it's popular in the 90's. I'm pretty sure most Chinese born in the 80's know the rhythm😂
@@DashBlue Extend this topic a bit and you will understand why this game happens. Most Cantonese pop songs in the 80 90's are translated/re-lyric ones from Japan. The Chinese economic reform has started and the market was flooded with all sorts of Japanese products. From family computer to walkmans to home appliances to songs even animates. Translated animates were aired on TV. This even included Neon Genesis Evangelion, but heavily edited though. It's funny that the devs claimed this was built from pure memory and stereotype but it's way more culturally accurate than the UBI's pile of sh!t.
The blur face is probably a reference to the blur that Japanese news used when they interviewed somebody or took a shot of the surrounding area (iirc it's about JP personal info/censorship law?)
2:12 The RV with a drill head Guren lagann ref. 2:57 The green yoyo Jackie Chang meme? 4:20 The left most photo is the kamakura railway from the op of anime slamdunk. 10:11 The Cat's Eye cos girl's name in game is Fujita Toshiko, Rui Kisugi's Voice Actress. 13:16 description of the kettle says there 4 animals drawing on the kettle, black pig, panda, duck and cat, Ranma 1/2 ref. 17:58 Voltron ref?
YES! We noticed a couple of these after recording this video, there are SO MANY details in this game lol thank you so much for pointing these out, we didn't know a few! the voice actress thing is such an amazing bit of detail thank you for watching!
now the world probably can't imagine how the 80's born chinese are influent by the japanese culture so much, I 100% believe that the team didn't research japan but based on their memories only, I totally get it! when I was a kid, 6Pm everyday I sit in front of tv and watch japanese animates, the songs were composed to chinese and was super popular in the 90's. To a lot of ppl including japanese might thought the chinese hates them because of the war, but the truth is, in the 80s-90s, we really loved japan. this game says it all. To be honeset, if it's not about political and the relations to 米国, the japanese and chinese can be friends, and have so much in common. Hope there will never be a war, especially a war both japanese and chinese doesn't want but some western country. Peace is what we all need.
I saw this trailer few days ago, i don't have enough knowledge about Japan to recognize all those references but i still liked the idea. Now that i saw you 2 explain everything, I'm even more excited for this game. Thank you and looking forward for more videos in future ❤
Dunno if Japan know this, but the "Kohaku" 紅白 was a Chinese nickname for the original Famicom videogame console due to the colour of being Red and White. Also Daikokuten is obviously a reference to Roah from Fist of the North Star which was really popular in Hong Kong when it came out in the 80's and the President going to watch anime at 6pm was actually the time that was the hour where the last anime of the day being shown before the news, because most kids would be at home at that time. (Anime mostly being shown at 4pm to 6pm nowadays). Also the reason why using Soregadaji song is that the song was really popular among Chinese speaker that had a Cantonese and Mandarin version of it
Thanks for the break down, it's so good. Tried to watch other people reaction video but no other was able to mention all the reference like your channel good stuff
It is really dumb there is so many people think AC is historical accurate 😂 and only because ubisoft says that on the interview. How it is possible 😂 be smart please
@@peacefulgamer-h2i yes and no, they keep changing their mind about it, the franchise never was 100% accurate but took inspiration from real stuff, I think the church that burned in France was recreated using the one inside the AC videogame. So is a mixed work of fiction and reality.
Yea, Mandarin tends to make use of native compound words as descriptions as much as possible, and only ever takes in loanwords when there's no other option. After that, it's just a matter of converting them to Kanji, with few to no changes to the characters.
Wow man, You and your wife are so cultured! Thank you for hyper analyzing this, as a native Chinese, seeing foreigners(especially japanese) analyzing and approving this makes me exceptionally happy. The devs did a fantastic job repreducing memory's from our 80s and 90s.

Black pig refers to Ryoga Hibiki (響 良牙) ;Panda refers to Saotome Genma (早乙女 玄馬); Duck refers to Mousse (ムース, 沐絲); Cat refers to Shampoo (シャンプー, 珊璞) 14:00 please refer to another anime -Full metal panic season 2 ep1 ua-cam.com/video/QmQKQpq31io/v-deo.html 14:28 it is a reference to an anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann 天元突破グレンラガン (ua-cam.com/video/J3kytewub_Y/v-deo.html ) 16:46 it is a reference to another Nintendo NES game - Contra. The jumping style is exactly the same. ua-cam.com/video/888vbCs9wLY/v-deo.html. 16:51 it is still “Contra” but adding some “Fist of the north star” elements. The character on their shorts are “风” and “雷”. 4:19 Why watching anime at 6PM? It's because China's TV broadcast imported and Chinese voiced Japanese anime or tokusatsu dramas (e.g. Ultraman, Super Sentai, Kamen Rider) at that time during 80s and 90s.
that's a cool detail! it's 6PM for Japan as well Wife's routine was: Sailor Moon -> Slam Dunk -> completely not understand Slam Dunk because she was a child -> brush teeth -> sleep thank you for watching!

When I first saw this trailer, I was amazed at how a Chinese company depicted Japanese culture invading American culture with such striking imagery that I was wondering if you were going to cover it. I come here giddy and excited to see just how well this performs compared to Assassin's Creed's Lockey's Fanfiction.
13:16 The yellow kettle is a reference to Ranma 1/2. "The kettle originates from an oriental country and (may?) have a boiling water function. It has four animals drawn on it: a black pig, a panda, a duck, and a cat. Are these the four legendary Chinese sacred animals?"
When they said they doing this purely on sterotypes and memories, that is true. But no research? Nah, of course they do reseach, they are doing the researches in the "Nerds" own way, not the Ubisoft way.
also something almost unnoticable is that the name 千草蝶子 (Chigusa Chōko) sounds like 中国製造 (Made in China) if you read it quickly (maybe only Chinese can realize this). This was told by one of my friends' friend's dev friend ^^)
Just my guess: The two guys in aerobic clothes are supposed to be Gozu and Mezu (so one has a horse-like mohawk and the other has ox horns). The ninja might be a reference to Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi (same pose to an old game ninja I can't recall). Raijin and Fuujin actually did the Contra jump-front flip and has similar hair to Player 1 (Fuujin) and Player 2 (Raijin). Governor Gokou looks close to Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising. The desert is likely the Nevada Desert and Las Vegas is labeled as Shibata's Las Vegas (as in Shibata Katsuie's Las Vegas). The location where she is golfing zombie heads seems to be a Natural Reserve in Nevada or something similar. The Drill special move is Giga Drill Breaker from Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann.
I did an English translation of a recent interview with the creative director on Reddit, in the Showa American story subreddit. It’s quite informative.
Ive been to most of these places so let me tell you a little about them, the Golden Gate bridge is constantly being painted cuz of the salt water wind always wearing it away. a giant balloon would obviously have to be tied down. its also hard to fathom for even americans too but in Las Vegas, every place of business has minimum slot machines everywhere. you can gamble in places like the airport to the laundry mat . the Tokyo 7/11 might have better fresh food but the LV 7/11 has blackjack and hookers outside. also i saw jojo charecters at first but they are pretty much inspired by the warriors anyways so it fits right in
Seems that ppl wonder why is the face of the main character censored in mosaic. I came across a video where 2 Japanese men explained where did it came from. Just... google けっこう仮面 . This 1974 manga is what it is referencing. The main character's name both contain 千草 .
This game oozes Suda51's spiritual successors' prowess, regardless if it's intentional or not I've been blasting "Sorega daiji" on repeat eversince I saw the first trailer with that goofy Gurren Lagann reference, then even further with Ultraman reference in that of the kindergarten/elementary ride, reminded me of my introduction to Trio Heisei era Ultraman (especially Ultraman Gaia & Dyna) back in the 2000s of my 1st grade elementary, all the streams of past memories overwhelms my senses back into insights, then eventually remembrance
The people behind this game really know their stuff, there are many details and references to spot every time you play the trailer. Really cool, I am wishing them all the succes they diserve
"Be the American that the Chinese think that Japenese thinks you are" -Nexcom *Funfact: In the original trailer, inplace of the magic mirror truck they instead have the (in)Famous og "pool"
The system requirements for this game look very realistic (lol Monster Hunter Wilds), so it goes on the wishlist. There are so many barely-dressed under-dressed comedians in Japan, it would be a dream to see Egashira in there even if just as the motivational speaker he is, Yoshio Kojima would be extra-motivational speaker to give you a pep talk, and Hollywood Zakoshiyoh would make a good tour-guide.
I also watched some response videos from American guys, they could only respond to one or two jokes but are impressed on the bloody scenes in the second half. 16:43 You have seen that bleeding head flying over the bridge.
I was really hoping you two covered this game and I'm so happy you both did! Hell, I feel like I'm learning more and more about Japanese Culture and history and learning things that I never have learned before, They have all stuck with me watching these video. Just hearing you two enjoying what this game to offer, I really hope you two have fun with this! Also something to note, The Drills feels like it might be a Gurren Lagann reference, I fucking loved that anime but I dunno if any other anime actually referenced Drills that much to be a weapon.
20:58 that statue could be a reference to Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey~ a lot of statues like that in the movie.... Also that was not a zombie on wheelchair, the previous trailer showed a bandaged man in a wheelchair, who I recall was referred to as one of the "RV's companions." so its just a seriously injured guy
This was so fun, you can tell a lot of care and actual love went into making this with all the silly little touches. It's something someone really cares about making, and you can tell. I think that's what games should be.
I would absolutely buy this... This was made by Chinese devs? never knew... Is creativity only in China nowadays, feels like big triple A companies can only dish out remakes and shit...
I have watched 3 other youtuber reacting to the trailer, i did not expect actual japanese managed to find much more details which also finds them nostalgic. That amazed me how much effort the devs put into this game
8:27 Could that be a reference to Yakuza: Dead Souls? In that game, Majima is turning into a Zombie. When he gets hit into a bath house, all his zombie symptoms go away. Two police officers question why he still has blood shot eyes, when Majima starts sneezing. It's pollen season, and he's allergic. Could it be a reference to that? That's a very obscure reference if so.
4:30 The photo on the very left is from Slamdunk, 神奈川县. In the ED, there is a railway crossing the road to the sea, which is originated from a real scene. This is a famous spot for tourist from China at 80s gen.
To be launched in 2025, Showa 100! It reflects Chinese stereotyped view of stereotypical Japanese culture stereotyped in American...too much information to process. Great job in analyzing all hidden references that even I missed in the initial viewing of the trailer :)

It's not Washington DC, it's Austin Texas. The building is the Texas Capitol building, which looks like the white house.

There was an authorised translated/re-lyric version of それが大事 in Chinese (Cantonese) called 红日 and it's popular in the 90's. I'm pretty sure most Chinese born in the 80's know the rhythm😂
Yes! My extended family from my mother's side always sing this song whenever one of them has a birthday
that's really interesting, thank you for telling us!
Lee Hacken is the singer for the Cantonese version called "Red Day" 紅日
Sounds so much like Bully Joel's Uptown Girl from the 1980's
@@DashBlue Extend this topic a bit and you will understand why this game happens. Most Cantonese pop songs in the 80 90's are translated/re-lyric ones from Japan. The Chinese economic reform has started and the market was flooded with all sorts of Japanese products. From family computer to walkmans to home appliances to songs even animates. Translated animates were aired on TV. This even included Neon Genesis Evangelion, but heavily edited though. It's funny that the devs claimed this was built from pure memory and stereotype but it's way more culturally accurate than the UBI's pile of sh!t.
I'm so damn hyped for this game lol I can't wait! Glad to reacted to it lol. It's hilarious.

For those wondering, the drill hand is a reference to the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I recommend watching it
It reminds of of UFO Robot Grendizer ❤
The blur face is probably a reference to the blur that Japanese news used when they interviewed somebody or took a shot of the surrounding area (iirc it's about JP personal info/censorship law?)

now the world probably can't imagine how the 80's born chinese are influent by the japanese culture so much, I 100% believe that the team didn't research japan but based on their memories only, I totally get it! when I was a kid, 6Pm everyday I sit in front of tv and watch japanese animates, the songs were composed to chinese and was super popular in the 90's.
