In this video, we’re going to talk about the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the REAL cause behind it.
Many people have fatty liver, but it doesn’t always happen from consuming too much alcohol. One of the main causes of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, or fatty liver, is insulin resistance.
Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar. In the presence of too much insulin, you’re going to get a fatty liver.
One of the big problems with a fatty liver is that you probably won’t have any symptoms until the liver is completely destroyed. However, one of the big fatty liver symptoms that I think does happen to most people is a liver roll (a rollover your top section, or a protruding belly). Overtime, the fatty liver will turn into cirrhosis.
How to help correct non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD):
    • Choline
    • Cruciferous vegetables
    • Avoid sugar

It's taken 3+ yes for drs to figure out what was going on with me but even after being diagnosed they've been entirely cavaliar about it. Oh just eat better...blah blah. I told them I thought it was a sugar issue and gave them reasons. Again, cavaliar when everything I've read online says you should take it seriously.

Starches is a broad term. If she was eating white pasta and bread all the time then I can see how she got NAFLD. If she was eating other starchy foods like sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and beans then I would have a hard time believing you also.

I worked out, been on the Atkins, and did so many diets throughout my life and always wondered why my abdominal area never flattened etc. Come to find out fatty liver, mind you I dont drink. Disheartened is a massive understatement, finding all of the symptoms (i had/have em) and regarding bad habits (ice cream, sugar etc) oh yeah definitely as well. Now? Cleaned up my diet, religiously going through every Dr Berg vid out there, eliminated the canola and veg oil from my home, now its extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil. And after 1 week ive already been told the inflammation in my abdominal area is down alot. Cant thank you enough and am gonna continue chugging along as improvements are seen/made. Thanks Dr Berg.

Thank goodness for the internet and now we actually get to find ways to improve our health. Thank you Dr Berg. I was diagnosed with fatty liver almost 30 years ago and back then they do a liver biopsy to see exactly what is going on with your liver. I was told I have a NAFL disease and that’s about it. Now after learning how to properly do Keto, my fatty liver is getting better. Not completely there yet but hey I don’t look 6 months pregnant! 😊. My inflammation rate has gone down tremendously , my thyroid replacement hormones are actually working better and I am getting better everyday.
For those who doesn’t think this lifestyle changes wouldn’t work, please try. Nothing happen immediately but if you’re on top of your blood work results you will see the progress. My weight didn’t come off for at least a year but like I said my belly shrunk. I think these changes healed me from the inside.
Thank you Dr Berg for sharing your knowledge with us.

I started massaging my liver with a soft tennis ball because anything else hurt too much and massage all the way around my rib cage on both sides wherever its tender, then added a small nerf football using the pointed ends to massage tender spots have since added a regular size football that I lay on and roll It over the tender spots, it has made a huge difference in my health I am coming back to life. Doing that and following his other advice I am feeling better all the time, thank you so much Dr Berg.

Thanks for a great insight to this. Cruciferous veggies (which I love - especially broccoli, cauliflower and arugula) are of limits for those with thyroid disorders. What happens if you're trying to repair a fatty liver with these vegetables and also have thyroid issues?

The research has been updated re goitrogens and thyroid. As long as the cruciferous veggies are cooked, there is no problem! It's only eating them raw that creates an issue for us. I'm hypothyroid, too, and LOVE broccoli, cauliflower, beets.... Maybe google it again and look for updated info if you want to confirm - I can't remember where I learned this, but it was a legitimate source. 😊

I understand the example put out here in terms of what the pancreas does when the liver becomes insulin resistant but what causes the liver to become insulin resistant in the first place?

I have a hereditary liver condition. I'm taking medication as prescribed and eating lots of green and other veggies. I have developed a muffin top after pregnancy. My liver function blood tests are very good and my sugar tests are absolutely normal. My aunt also had the same liver condition and now was diagnosed with cancer. What are my chances?

My mother suffered from this; unfortunately she craved only sugars and starches as she got worse. So the body's signals were telling her all wrong as to what to eat. If someone could have only gotten to her earlier NOT to listen to her body. She then started to lose all of her appetite and developed horrible amounts of diarrhea. Then her body couldn't digest about anything correctly. It turned into a big mess. The doctors didn't seem to know how to handle this and just kept offering a pill. She needed so much more help.

Frankly, sounds like me. I had fatty liver and gallbladder disease when I was younger. Drs were clueless, due to my age. I went on to develop pancreatic disease. I eat vegetarian now but not keto. I can't do keto due to the fat. I am reliant on an rx named Creon. It is absurdly expensive, it shouldn't be. Apparently my liver was dead long ago and maybe if that was treated at that time I wouldn't have developed pancreatic disease and needing Creon today. I hope she can access Creon, it doesn't stop the diarrhea but does help.

I was just diagnosed with this and have been vegetarian since 1990. I juice 3x a week and have always been a health nut and am in the holistic field. I’m confused as to why I have Hepatic Steaosis. They said it could be genetic. My blood work is normal, blood pressure, blood sugar levels are also all normal. This was diagnosed by CT scan. Not sure what to do. I avoid refined anything and eat organic or local vegetables. I am gaining weight in my abdomen but thin everywhere else…

Its so upsetting: I have been a perfect diet now but even after a year despite losing weight my stomach is still distended and it's so exhausting and awful to live with. There is NO Information out there ANYWHERE about how to get the stomach to go down. I will look out for an answer to this comment . Will it take 3 years for the stomach to Begin to flatten again too? Will it ever? Thanks . Helene from Denmark

How does stress play a part of this insulin resistance issue? Or is food the only attributors? I have elevated liver enzymes and i have chronic fatigue, inflamation in joints (and all over) pain. My doc says come back in a few months for another test. Heart attacks run in my family. i feel waiting a few months is taking more risk of becoming worse. I have cut my carbs, and use of sugar and have started some Yoga... but my job is very stressful. If Im under stress, does this make the situation worse? Doesn't the body produce more insulin when it is under stress?

And I also wanted to ask about the golo diet have you heard of this and does it help with the insulin issue? When it was advertised this is what it was talking about people with excessive amounts of fat in the abdomen area having the problem with insulin resistance

Probably one should have more b1 as benfotamine in this case. And more potassium/electrolytes. A healthy person needs 4700mg of potassium throughout the day. Together with the other electrolytes and nutrients.
