I played this game when I was around 13 years old, and upon my first play through I experienced one of the most emotional unstated moments I've ever experienced in a game. There's no dialogue for it, no cutscene, no specific time that it happens even. It was the first time I got the sword to rank three. The death that leads to getting the sword had hit me hard, I wasn't used to games in which important characters just... died like that, so I was still a bit sad the first time I saw his spirit come from the sword to wreck shop, and seeing that he was living on was amazing. Couple that with the payoff of the slight excitement of seeing what the new upgrade did, and it was something really memorable.
For me it was when the you first hear the quiet theme. you come back from the waterway and end back up in mimiga village.. but somethings not right. everyone is gone. you realize that almost all you friends are dead or have been captured. and that eerie theme plays in the background as you realize all this. it’s a great moment.
I thought about the first professor booster dilema: if you don't go down he'll use the 0.8 booster to save himself. however if you do go down to check on him he'll give you the 0.8 booster, leaving him with no way to escape. in a way he sacrifices his life to save yours, by giving the only means of escape, just becaues you were curious and goody two shoes mama's boy. about the tow rope? maybe he left it there while flying? I had answers for the first dilema...
Narumi Shirumai sometime hope can sustain you long enough to save yourself. If you go down there, there is no hope for him, so he gives up. I do not remember what happens to him after (and if) he gives you the booster pack 2.0. Does he teleport or does he goes poof? I do agree there is no way for the player to know about any of this without a warning. As jonny said, it's almost impossible to get the best ending without a walkthrough, hell there is almost no indication it exist!

Honestly I found the final area of the game to be loads of fun. I mean sure its balls to the walls hard, but it's honestly one of the few times in a game where I actually didn't rage from failure. I recognized how hard it was, and actually beating it and getting the best ending was incredibly satisfying.
I don't know why Prof Booster dying makes the hook disappear, but to help other people understand, I think I have a good theory why Booster survives if you don't talk to him. I think this happens because if you talk to him, he wastes his life away talking to a brick wall, while if you don't talk, he has enough time to go under his platform and fix the teleporter. This allows him to teleport to safety and survive. After this, he works on his booster more to the 2.0 version and gives it to you later in the game.
The problem is that, if the hero speaks, the player identification may break if the hero's speech is not in accordance with what the player would say or think.
Nidomy but some people like myself dont play games to identify with the character. we just wanna see someone interesting. a silent protagonist is the complete opposite of that.
I am not sure I play games for that neither, you know. It's just to say something about it. But I am not sure a silent protagonist is not interesting either. We could imagine the character is silent for a reason. For example, he just can't speak biologically and it has some influence over the progress of the game. Let's get creative.
Nidomy You are making good points, but the problem is how often we see silent protagonists in video games. You can always do something clever like that and make up for it, but at this current time, it's more annoying to the player. Even in games that have a good explanation for it still feel like they're selling us short; it's kinda like if the game gives you an explanation for being a first person shooter. Sure, that explanation can be cool and interesting, but if I just played 30 other FPS games, I won't care.

I'm not saying you're wrong - this issue is just a critic issue, something that usually only comes up to someone who has played a large amount of games. There are a lot of complaints about games that stem from this issue actually. I'm not saying that I let it make me dislike a game, just because of what other games have already done. I've played and enjoyed many games that went by the book. But criticism is in many ways intended to improve future games as well as judge the current one, and so this criticism is still valid.
You didn't cheese the final boss, take damage when the spikes come up. then use your invincibility frames to get in his eye socket and blast away with the super missile launcher. he dies in like 3 seconds
When you get to a certain age- you have this gut feeling that tells you to play your games on harder difficulties. I got destroyed. gave up (on Monster X) and restarted on Normal, didn't even know Quote's hair was supposed to be black.
*Fun fact:* Life capsules in Cave story can bring your health up to a Maximum 50 HP. (unless you're doing the best ending, and you're in the Sanctuary, then you'd find 1 more life capsule adding it up to 55 HP.) The Missile Launcher can also hold up to 54 Missiles by using upgrades found in the game.
Love how when this was review, this guy says that getting good ending on normal is hard. Try getting the normal ending on hard mode. Cave Story on hard mode, changes a man.
My sister got the original game and I watched her play it.We had to look up a walkthrough for it. She tried about 20 times to do the secret level before editing it so we could see the happy ending. (There's a hidden sign that you can only see when you go to edit the game. It says "Welcome to Hell.")
i think i got the partial explanation to why booster survives if you ignore him he could have possibly used the booster pack 0.8 as a power source for the teleporter below, but this doesnt explain the tow rope going missing
***** the out of story explanation is that without saving professor booster, you don't get the booster 2.0 which is necessary for the sacred grounds, so there's no point saving curly, as she would've died there anyways
+epicjubjub02 That's why Cave Story+ is awesome. You can use the graphics of the original game (or the remastered PC graphics, which are good), but use the (IMO) superior music of the 3D version.
Kai Lyman I got it on my O3DS. It's so hard to see. I can barely play it. If you play it upscaled on Citra it's alright though. Some of the characters look pretty polygonal however. Toroko doesn't even have a mouth. But was an early 3DS 3rd party game so it's forgivable.
I'm having trouble finding a "meatier" indie game for even $10. This game is so perfect, it doesn't spoon feed you the story and it's enough of a challenge to keep you playing for atleast 40+ hours.
This is easily my favorite game of all time. It's got beautiful story-telling, amazing characters, a snazzy soundtrack, and, last but not least, fun boss fights.

if you fell down the hole, you can't get back up(unless you have lvl 3 machine gun but there's no guarantee you do) so he gave it to you so you can save the world. and perishes. but if you leave him he can use the booster 0.8 to leave the hole and find aa teleporter to escape in. that's about as reasonable as i can make it. :P
I have an unpopular opinion here, but I DESPISE the updated music and graphics. The graphical update ruined the aesthetic charm and the music sounds like it's being smothered by a pillow.
Johnny, thank you for reviewing this game. I went out and bought Cave Story+ on Steam and it's been one of the best games I've played. I can't get enough of that title theme.
The Wind Fortress is actually a hidden area in the original game and is also on the Wii-Ware version. To do it you have to complete certain requirements throughout the game, but the dungeon area itself is HIGHLY challenging as well as the bosses inside it.
I have to restart all over again, just so I can get the good ending, its because I forgot to get the tow rope, forgot to put Curly (or Quote in Curly's story) in bed, and I have to go all over again just to get to it ;-; it was worth it. (Also this was uploaded in my birthday :D)

Here's a tip. On the final form with everything going super crazy. Hurt yourself and jump on his head then just blast him with lvl 3 missiles like crazy. You'll take damage yes but the final form will be gone in a poof.
You have to make sure you're like on top of him (technically) and at the same level as his eyes which are the week points. as for the first form and the boss before Balos just be patient and care about not getting hit not about finishing them fast. Patience and timing is what you'll need to survive.
the first boss (that thwomp wannabe) i can handle. Ballos' first form is tough but i can handle him, its his other forms that are giving me the most trouble.
I was tempted to try this game; gives me Undertale vibes in a Metroid style (opposed to an RPG style) but as soon as "the whole final area + 5 bosses with no checkpoints" came up, I'm not sure I can handle the foreboding salt.

5:50 if you drop down below the place where booster lands, there is a teleporter that says it is broken, but an engineer could fix it. The idea is that booster would have used his jetpack (which he otherwise gives to you) to move himself to the teleporter, fixed it, and got back to Arthur's house where he recovers.
This game is relatively easy till the last fucking level.. Goddammit the last level is filled with Medusa head like bats and megaman death traps! WTF and to top it all off you're going to have to fight 3 bosses in a row without any save or health replenishment!
Caleb Paulin i still havent beaten that final boss yet, mostly because i was playing other games, but also because it can get really frusterating when your on the final form just to die to a stupid angel. i have tried over 100 times in that area, its seriously mind numming....

It is, in fact, possible for developers to dabble in a bit obsfucation, i.e give you clues, but never explicitly state what you need to do. The developer of this game didn't do that.
Hougropvitz The game was designed so you'd explore your choices, you're not supposed to find everything on your first playthrough. I don't know why that's so hard to understand.

VirgateSpy Doesn't mean you'll get the best ending if you experiment either. As stated, you won't even know if there are multiple endings. If you miss even one thing, you will not get it. Then you start over without knowing what you did wrong. If you find that fun, then good for you.
I know this is years old, but just wanted to say thanks for the review, John! Years ago, this review convinced me to download the free version on my Mac, only to try it out and realize the keyboard controls didn't gel with me. So after getting tired of watching it sit unplayed for years, I sat down and grabbed it on the 3DS eShop some time later. I recently started it when I couldn't think of anything to play, got hooked and just completed it about 2 hours ago. This is definitely one of my favorite indies of all time, maybe even my favorite! The story was great, I love the Mega Man/Metroid mix in the gameplay, and it was a joy to explore the world and discover all its little quirks. I only got the normal ending (hate using guides, but I did remember your advice and got the improved booster) but I'm seriously considering going back in down the road with a guide handy to get the best one. So a big thanks to you for helping me discover one of my favorite indies where I wouldn't have known it existed otherwise. Keep up the awesome work! :)
8:00 oh 5 bosses because it took 5 years to make the game. 5 years is what it took the creator to get his “good ending” and its what you need to overcome to get yours. Its symbolic.
I always imagined the professor booster dilema as such: You go down there, startle him by talking to him and give him a heart attack and he dies shortly after talking to you. Leave him alone and he's free to fix the teleporter in peace.
Redundantly, he guesses Mimigas are supposed to be dogs or bunnies, Mimigas are a hybrid of Puppies AND Bunnies actually, i played this game 2 years after release (Game was released December 2004) and beat it with all 3 endings, 6 Times. which shows how much dedication i put into playing, and learning about the game. (counting the hours on the web gathering Information as if i was a Big Daddy.) Technically, Balrog is Mistaken mostly as a Box of any sort, but hes actually based off of a bar of Soap.
The reason professor Booster lived when you ignored him, is because he used the last of his energy to get to the teleporter at the bottom of the room to get to Arthur's house. If you talked to him, he would use the last of his energy to talk to you and give you the booster.
I think what happened with the professor is when he gives you the boots means he can no longer escape the hole, but if you leave him alone, he can go back to his lab and heal. it's a stretch, I know.
I get the whole backlog thing now. I'm busy wrapping up college and I currently have sitting unplayed on my PS4 including Resident Evil 1 & 4, Enter the Gungeon, Final Fantasy X/X-2 remaster, Uncharted 2 & 3 remastered, day of the tentacle remastered, and likely Sonic Mania when it releases. I got this game two years ago because of this video. Thanks for introducing it to me btw, and I managed to only beat the Blood Stained Sanctuary ONCE. And that was only on the easy mode due to having less damaged done to me. That difficulty spike is the most ridiculous I've seen. It's one of my favorite games still but damn

Technically, Quote does speak.Even in story mode. for example In the plantation You say "yrotS evaC" To get in the hideout. You don't speak very often and you don't have dialog boxes.
This might be a stupid idea but I have a theory as to why Booster survives if you leave him alone. If he sees you, he knows that you can save the Mimiga race, and he might not fight as hard to stay alive and just give up. But if he doesn’t, he might think you died and that he is the only one left to stop the Doctor, so he fights harder to survive and ends up making it. As for the tow rope, if you saw Booster die, Quote might be more distraught and unable to notice the rope than otherwise. But hey, that’s just a theory. A GAME THEORY!
The tow rope can't be explained, but the Professor surviving can: Below where Professor Booster landed is a nonfunctioning teleport-thing. Being injured, he can't just hop down there; he needs the booster to fly down there without dying to fix it. However, if you fall down then he gives you the booster, and he can't save himself.
I think the professor dies because there is no other way to escape that hole you fall in, so instead of him escaping with the jet pack he gives it to you so you can escape and save the rest.
I think the logic of the professor dying when you go to him is that he only has one jet booster so only one of you can get out of that pit so he chooses to let you escape?
Johnny, my boy, ignoring the Prof. does make sense after all. If you go down and check on him, he gives you the Booster, the only means of escape. He gave it to you knowing that you wouldn't be able to get out, and knowing that you were the hero of the story, If you ignore him, he repairs the booster and gets out himself. And gets some parts to make it better than ever.
The logic with the professor has something to do with using the Booster to escape the pit. Since he had to give it to you so YOU could escape, he's doomed. Let him keep it though, and he makes it to a functional teleporter.
I actually skipped the guy falling because i never saw him fall since i looked away due to some noise and it was a mistake that haunts me to this day (CANNOT BEAT THAT FRIGIN SANCTUARYYYYYYYY!!!)

Honestly, even though you say that the Final Sanctuary can be extremely hard, that's what made me love this game even more. After encountering that sanctuary, I tried my damn hardest to complete it. And when I did? I felt like a goddamn fucking hero. I felt like I really saved the world and best of all, I had tremendous amounts of fun.
A few things. The last level difficulty spike is meant ONLY for pros. The second thing is that not checking on the professor makes sense to me. If you check, you know for sure that he's dead, but if you don't, you can't be sure until you see him later.
Think of it like this: What the player doesn't see is often said as not having happened. Hence why it often gets explained later. Since, for the good ending, you don't actually see Booster being hurt, he simply isn't hurt.
Bet you didn't know the trick to beating the last phase of the final boss is to stand on his eye, aim upward, and shoot level 3 super missiles. When you aim up while on his eye, Curly's shots will hit him too, so it downs him really fast

I jumped right over Booster because I had assumed that there were spikes down below and played the game very carefully because I had no backlog to go through and I loved it. I also only realized I was on the path to the best ending once I started replaying the game last week and went for the Booster v.0.8 because I thought not getting it would give you the bad ending. So yeah, I almost got the best ending when I was 6 (only stopping at the Secret Last Cave because for some reason that was super hard to me and not the boss rush right after or literal hell) and got the regular ending now.
I always thought the plot of this was a big inner family fight, with the Doctor being the father but hating on son (and possibly) daughter thus turning them into Mimigas and so forth and so on. That was just my theory.
Also, I read a theory about Professor Booster's death that makes enough sense to me. If you check on him, he hands you the incomplete jetpack and, thinking he's done all he can, allows himself to die. If you DON'T, he finds the willpower to try to escape in order to find you, and finds the teleporter.

The problem is that, if the hero speaks, the player identification may break if the hero's speech is not in accordance with what the player would say or think.
Nidomy but some people like myself dont play games to identify with the character. we just wanna see someone interesting. a silent protagonist is the complete opposite of that.
I am not sure I play games for that neither, you know. It's just to say something about it. But I am not sure a silent protagonist is not interesting either. We could imagine the character is silent for a reason. For example, he just can't speak biologically and it has some influence over the progress of the game. Let's get creative.

You can always do something clever like that and make up for it, but at this current time, it's more annoying to the player. Even in games that have a good explanation for it still feel like they're selling us short; it's kinda like if the game gives you an explanation for being a first person shooter. Sure, that explanation can be cool and interesting, but if I just played 30 other FPS games, I won't care.

I'm not saying you're wrong - this issue is just a critic issue, something that usually only comes up to someone who has played a large amount of games. There are a lot of complaints about games that stem from this issue actually.
I'm not saying that I let it make me dislike a game, just because of what other games have already done. I've played and enjoyed many games that went by the book. But criticism is in many ways intended to improve future games as well as judge the current one, and so this criticism is still valid.
You didn't cheese the final boss, take damage when the spikes come up. then use your invincibility frames to get in his eye socket and blast away with the super missile launcher. he dies in like 3 seconds

Beating Cave Story completely was one of my Greatest Gaming Achievements.
When you get to a certain age- you have this gut feeling
that tells you to play your games on harder difficulties.

*Fun fact:*
Life capsules in Cave story can bring your health up to a Maximum 50 HP. (unless you're doing the best ending, and you're in the Sanctuary, then you'd find 1 more life capsule adding it up to 55 HP.) The Missile Launcher can also hold up to 54 Missiles by using upgrades found in the game.
Also, if yoy choose the New soundtrack option on Cave Story+, the life capsule & item get sounds are swapped.
God, I watched this like 6 years ago and now I'm watching it again, just for the memories.

My sister got the original game and I watched her play it.We had to look up a walkthrough for it. She tried about 20 times to do the secret level before editing it so we could see the happy ending. (There's a hidden sign that you can only see when you go to edit the game. It says "Welcome to Hell.")
i think i got the partial explanation to why booster survives if you ignore him
he could have possibly used the booster pack 0.8 as a power source for the teleporter below, but this doesnt explain the tow rope going missing

That's why Cave Story+ is awesome.
You can use the graphics of the original game (or the remastered PC graphics, which are good), but use the (IMO) superior music of the 3D version.

Kai Lyman I got it on my O3DS. It's so hard to see. I can barely play it. If you play it upscaled on Citra it's alright though. Some of the characters look pretty polygonal however. Toroko doesn't even have a mouth. But was an early 3DS 3rd party game so it's forgivable.
I'm having trouble finding a "meatier" indie game for even $10. This game is so perfect, it doesn't spoon feed you the story and it's enough of a challenge to keep you playing for atleast 40+ hours.
I Replayed this game about 12 times.
I have over 100 hours of this on my Switch.
This is easily my favorite game of all time. It's got beautiful story-telling, amazing characters, a snazzy soundtrack, and, last but not least, fun boss fights.
Makes as much sense as RPGMaker games.

if you fell down the hole, you can't get back up(unless you have lvl 3 machine gun but there's no guarantee you do) so he gave it to you so you can save the world. and perishes. but if you leave him he can use the booster 0.8 to leave the hole and find aa teleporter to escape in. that's about as reasonable as i can make it. :P

I have an unpopular opinion here, but I DESPISE the updated music and graphics. The graphical update ruined the aesthetic charm and the music sounds like it's being smothered by a pillow.

The Wind Fortress is actually a hidden area in the original game and is also on the Wii-Ware version. To do it you have to complete certain requirements throughout the game, but the dungeon area itself is HIGHLY challenging as well as the bosses inside it.

Here's a tip. On the final form with everything going super crazy. Hurt yourself and jump on his head then just blast him with lvl 3 missiles like crazy. You'll take damage yes but the final form will be gone in a poof.

You have to make sure you're like on top of him (technically) and at the same level as his eyes which are the week points. as for the first form and the boss before Balos just be patient and care about not getting hit not about finishing them fast. Patience and timing is what you'll need to survive.
the first boss (that thwomp wannabe) i can handle. Ballos' first form is tough but i can handle him, its his other forms that are giving me the most trouble.
The one where he cycles the room with the spikes around him? Yeah the timing to fit in between them is tough but practice makes perfect I guess.

I was tempted to try this game; gives me Undertale vibes in a Metroid style (opposed to an RPG style) but as soon as "the whole final area + 5 bosses with no checkpoints" came up, I'm not sure I can handle the foreboding salt.

5:50 if you drop down below the place where booster lands, there is a teleporter that says it is broken, but an engineer could fix it. The idea is that booster would have used his jetpack (which he otherwise gives to you) to move himself to the teleporter, fixed it, and got back to Arthur's house where he recovers.

It is, in fact, possible for developers to dabble in a bit obsfucation, i.e give you clues, but never explicitly state what you need to do. The developer of this game didn't do that.

VirgateSpy Doesn't mean you'll get the best ending if you experiment either. As stated, you won't even know if there are multiple endings. If you miss even one thing, you will not get it. Then you start over without knowing what you did wrong. If you find that fun, then good for you.
I know this is years old, but just wanted to say thanks for the review, John! Years ago, this review convinced me to download the free version on my Mac, only to try it out and realize the keyboard controls didn't gel with me. So after getting tired of watching it sit unplayed for years, I sat down and grabbed it on the 3DS eShop some time later. I recently started it when I couldn't think of anything to play, got hooked and just completed it about 2 hours ago. This is definitely one of my favorite indies of all time, maybe even my favorite! The story was great, I love the Mega Man/Metroid mix in the gameplay, and it was a joy to explore the world and discover all its little quirks. I only got the normal ending (hate using guides, but I did remember your advice and got the improved booster) but I'm seriously considering going back in down the road with a guide handy to get the best one.
So a big thanks to you for helping me discover one of my favorite indies where I wouldn't have known it existed otherwise. Keep up the awesome work! :)

I always imagined the professor booster dilema as such:
You go down there, startle him by talking to him and give him a heart attack and he dies shortly after talking to you.
Leave him alone and he's free to fix the teleporter in peace.
Redundantly, he guesses Mimigas are supposed to be dogs or bunnies, Mimigas are a hybrid of Puppies AND Bunnies actually, i played this game 2 years after release (Game was released December 2004) and beat it with all 3 endings, 6 Times. which shows how much dedication i put into playing, and learning about the game. (counting the hours on the web gathering Information as if i was a Big Daddy.) Technically, Balrog is Mistaken mostly as a Box of any sort, but hes actually based off of a bar of Soap.
The reason professor Booster lived when you ignored him, is because he used the last of his energy to get to the teleporter at the bottom of the room to get to Arthur's house. If you talked to him, he would use the last of his energy to talk to you and give you the booster.

I think what happened with the professor is when he gives you the boots means he can no longer escape the hole, but if you leave him alone, he can go back to his lab and heal. it's a stretch, I know.
I get the whole backlog thing now. I'm busy wrapping up college and I currently have sitting unplayed on my PS4 including Resident Evil 1 & 4, Enter the Gungeon, Final Fantasy X/X-2 remaster, Uncharted 2 & 3 remastered, day of the tentacle remastered, and likely Sonic Mania when it releases. I got this game two years ago because of this video. Thanks for introducing it to me btw, and I managed to only beat the Blood Stained Sanctuary ONCE. And that was only on the easy mode due to having less damaged done to me. That difficulty spike is the most ridiculous I've seen. It's one of my favorite games still but damn

This might be a stupid idea but I have a theory as to why Booster survives if you leave him alone. If he sees you, he knows that you can save the Mimiga race, and he might not fight as hard to stay alive and just give up. But if he doesn’t, he might think you died and that he is the only one left to stop the Doctor, so he fights harder to survive and ends up making it.
As for the tow rope, if you saw Booster die, Quote might be more distraught and unable to notice the rope than otherwise.
But hey, that’s just a theory. A GAME THEORY!
The tow rope can't be explained, but the Professor surviving can:
Below where Professor Booster landed is a nonfunctioning teleport-thing. Being injured, he can't just hop down there; he needs the booster to fly down there without dying to fix it. However, if you fall down then he gives you the booster, and he can't save himself.
I think the professor dies because there is no other way to escape that hole you fall in, so instead of him escaping with the jet pack he gives it to you so you can escape and save the rest.

I think the logic of the professor dying when you go to him is that he only has one jet booster so only one of you can get out of that pit so he chooses to let you escape?
Johnny, my boy, ignoring the Prof. does make sense after all. If you go down and check on him, he gives you the Booster, the only means of escape. He gave it to you knowing that you wouldn't be able to get out, and knowing that you were the hero of the story, If you ignore him, he repairs the booster and gets out himself. And gets some parts to make it better than ever.
The logic with the professor has something to do with using the Booster to escape the pit. Since he had to give it to you so YOU could escape, he's doomed. Let him keep it though, and he makes it to a functional teleporter.
I actually skipped the guy falling because i never saw him fall since i looked away due to some noise and it was a mistake that haunts me to this day (CANNOT BEAT THAT FRIGIN SANCTUARYYYYYYYY!!!)

5:50 As Pixel himself said on his BBS, "Booster's soul needed to pass along his booster before his death.", when he fell down, he had no one to give it to, and his soul and drive continued on for him to end up living and finishing the booster.
Honestly, even though you say that the Final Sanctuary can be extremely hard, that's what made me love this game even more.
After encountering that sanctuary, I tried my damn hardest to complete it. And when I did?
I felt like a goddamn fucking hero. I felt like I really saved the world and best of all, I had tremendous amounts of fun.
There is currently 15 different versions of Cave Story, all on different platforms, including the TI-83 calculator, which is neat.

A few things. The last level difficulty spike is meant ONLY for pros. The second thing is that not checking on the professor makes sense to me. If you check, you know for sure that he's dead, but if you don't, you can't be sure until you see him later.
Think of it like this: What the player doesn't see is often said as not having happened. Hence why it often gets explained later.
Since, for the good ending, you don't actually see Booster being hurt, he simply isn't hurt.
Bet you didn't know the trick to beating the last phase of the final boss is to stand on his eye, aim upward, and shoot level 3 super missiles. When you aim up while on his eye, Curly's shots will hit him too, so it downs him really fast

6-year-old me disagrees. I jumped right over Booster because I had assumed that there were spikes down below and played the game very carefully because I had no backlog to go through and I loved it. I also only realized I was on the path to the best ending once I started replaying the game last week and went for the Booster v.0.8 because I thought not getting it would give you the bad ending. So yeah, I almost got the best ending when I was 6 (only stopping at the Secret Last Cave because for some reason that was super hard to me and not the boss rush right after or literal hell) and got the regular ending now.

I always thought the plot of this was a big inner family fight, with the Doctor being the father but hating on son (and possibly) daughter thus turning them into Mimigas and so forth and so on. That was just my theory.
It's funny how a game *1* guy made *in his spare time* is *SO MUCH* better than the triple-A titles of today.
Also, I read a theory about Professor Booster's death that makes enough sense to me. If you check on him, he hands you the incomplete jetpack and, thinking he's done all he can, allows himself to die. If you DON'T, he finds the willpower to try to escape in order to find you, and finds the teleporter.
