Vinny is terrified of the true ending yet he beat Monster X on his first try, that took me genuinely over an hour.
He casually no-hits the fish boss when someone puts him up to it and _then_ goes on to do the same with the Sisters without even mentioning it. And then falls down the outer wall for 99 hours.
Vinny is a being of extremes
Monster X isn't that hard unless you're on Hard Mode.

Brent is legendary, man. Ever since I was a kid I've had his back. Nothing is cringe if you don't let it be.
I hope the parallel of Daisuke making Cave Story to the gunsmith's speech when you get the Spur isnt lost on Vinny or chat. It's an incredibly powerful dialogue that kicks on the waterworks every time.
Was watching that part and I'd seen it before but like, it hadn't clicked, this time it got me right in the gut.
The dialog AFTER obtaining the Spur, right? Because the dialog right before makes it look like he looks down on game modders with disdain if interpreted that way

@@jdh96the "People who take others' tools are fools" passage sure comes across as that when under that context, but I understood that it refers to the later dialog
@@TheJomarori however, even if your interpreting it that way, he's still saying he *used to* think that way, and that he no longer does and now understands the value of someone else experiencing your work and leaving their own mark on it
Glad to see Vinny persevering through some unfortunate saves and bad luck. I hope he at least gives the Sacred Grounds a few tries; it's much easier than people make it out to be. If you take your time and farm some health, the only challenging part is Ballos, and even that battle has some good cheese.
Also chat was on *fire* with the completely wrong information during this stream, wow. Saving Curly being timed, clock being required for Sacred Grounds, the cut-off for restoring Curly's memory, the little man in the cemetery. And of course, "You missed a sparkle". That one was funny, at least.
I do agree people tend to overrate how difficult hell is, it's mostly the second room that's a bitch, but once that's over you can do the health exploit at the start of the third room and take it slowly from there.
Also maybe someone saw the dialogue box saying that Curly's life system has stopped that appears if you go too far in the level and mistook that for a timed event. There's also some changes that they made in the Switch version only that chat didn't account for(such as moving one of the dogs from the end of sand zone to near the beginning, hence the confusion of Vinny going left or right).
Gosh yeah especially in the Labyrinth when people said that talking to Prof. Booster causes him to die while giving you the unfinished Booster, and thus locking you out of the true ending; in the Switch version which Vinny's playing, you can refuse the Booster when talking to him instead of being forced. I guess it was true back then that it forced you to take it, but it sure ain't like that now...

One shotting that Dragon fight he forgot about on 12 life probably isn't that much harder than the Hell area

You know, I still kinda wish Vinny would do the best ending, mainly just to unlock Wind Fortress, not only is it a great new level designed by Pixel himself and not Nicalis, but also the music in it is god tier, one of the best in the game easily.

It's such a cute and simple game but it's amazing how it manages to make stuff like Toroko and King, and Curly in the regular endings feel so genuinely heartbreaking, considering each of them only get a few lines of dialogue.
forgot how sad the whole Toroko and King thing was.
Man, I really wish Vin would go for true ending just so I could see the attempts at the final stage on-stream. Such an amazingly satisfying thing to beat, too.

Saving Curly, killing Toriel, Vinny has experienced the best indie gaming has to offer.
I know he isn't doing the true ending, but he honestly probably could beat the Sacred grounds area, there's only really two somewhat difficult areas if you take it slow and farm health, the falling block area, and the ballos fight, which would be much easier if Vinny ends up saving the potion for that. But whether or not he does it, I'm just happy to see him finally finish Cave Story on stream, it's something I've been wanting to see him do ever since the terrible Cave "no" story and Cave Story 3D streams.

Cave Story +'s arrrangements are really good, but they have terrible instrumentation. You can find the original midis and tweak them yourself and you'll get amazing results.

I was hoping Vinny would listen to the Ridiculon version of Tyrant when he was messing with the jukebox. Its fantastic. The Ridiculon OST is polarizing, but Tyrant, Moonsong, and a couple of others are really good.
all of the "not the original" ones have their hits and misses to me, in general it's just a net good that we have _more_ music.

40:35 I was hoping that the remake would fix this. I played this back when it first came out and my friend and I thought the idea of King's Level 3 sword being his spirit swinging the sword was such an amazing and fitting idea, but when I found out that you got more DPS out of level 2, I was incredibly disappointed.
Tbf, lv3 is amazing for cover fire and groups of enemies, so while not optimal for DPS it does a great job filling a different niche.
I know nothing of this game, it’s totally bypassed me my entire life, seen characters, sprites, heard the ost, etc etc for years but never ACTUALLY saw gameplay, glad Vinny is playing it so I can see wtf I even missed out on all these years

Why does Vinny continue to equate "professional" with "capable" ?
I think we all know that being a professional doesn't mean being actually good at what you do, you simply profit from it while being patient until one's retired.
Like being a professional means near to nothing except 'making bank' in a single career path.

The cavestory+ sound track is how I feel about the thousand year door remake sound track. It tries to do way too much and makes things too bombastic like it's got an ego about it trying to one up the origionals.

First time I played it I had the machine gun and I just flew over the pit. I didn't know you could talk to him to get the crappy jetpack early while locking yourself out of the best ending until years later.

Watched my brother, who's played this game more times than he can count, try to beat the Waterways boss with no hits and it took him maybe 20 attempts.
Watching Vinny do it first try was kind of hilarious.
despite having played Cave Story first (on dsiware lol) i still heavily associate the sound effects with megaman sprite game 💀
I wish Vinny would do the Blood Stained Sanctuary too but you really need every life upgrade for that of you don’t have 50 health + life pot when you start for that you’re screwed essentially

I don't get why everyone's so harsh against the WiiWare version of the music? I think it's nice that we get to have more variations of the OSTs. I think the WiiWare versions sounds fine. It doesn't need to be a contest...

Bird nerd here, they have wing shapes and movement patterns like a hummingbird, but the beak and body structure is definitely more parrot like, although the hit sprite has a slightly more hummingbird type beak, hope this helps lol, feels the same way that he kept calling Red 13 a dog in FF7 when he’s literally some sort of large feline
That Core fight was painful to watch. From him not picking up the rockets that were in front of him, not recharging the Polar Star, switching randomly to weapons for no reason, and then firing the Rocket Launcher after not getting rockets. Truly a shameful day in Vinesucc history
no memes but hopefully this warms up vinny for a sincere attempt at giving undertale a shot. chat seemed to cooperate (...to a degree) to get vinny on path to the best ending, even if he doesn't make it all the way - and that "chat indecision" i think was something that put him off from playing it (as well as the constant memery and popularity of the game i suppose) - with him having played both "main inspirations" for the game (cave story and earthbound) i don't see why not. the game will be 10 years old next year... the hype surrounding it pretty much "stabilized" now and the "annoying fans" are probably gonna be focused on deltarune if that comes out by then. cave story best gaem tho
