That is weird. I mean, they buffed the Inferno substantially so that it's single S7 gatling does a bit around 25% more than two S5 AD5Bs on the Guardian, which is fair. But then I compare the Ion's cannon DPS to two M7As and it's something like 33% lower. I think CIG fucked up their math when they buffed the Ion. That single S7 should definitely do more than a pair of S5s for sure.
Yeah it should be doing at least 50% more than what it’s currently at just to be on par with regular size increments. He compared it to the smaller size 6s on the Polaris and it’s way less than that, even though it should be way more… Sad to see the state of the ship, glad I got rid of mine a while back, just too much of a headache to constantly check the patch notes to see if it’s overpowered or useless. Hasn’t been in a good spot for years.
The Nomads personal storage is supposed to be under the bed, you can see the label texture show where it is but they haven't given it any interaction button
I agree with more damage, but projectile speed needs to be extremely slow, otherwise the Ion will be a threat against small and medium ships, which it shouldn't. It's solo purpose is to oppose large and capital ships, where slow projectiles work fine.
I was testing the ion in AC Pirate Swarm and I think the problem is with moving ships and the hits not registering. Sometimes it would kill a Gladius in a few hits, and sometimes it took 3 to 4 times as manky hits to kill a Gladius. The Aurora seemed especially tough to kill even though it was being hit many times. It seemed to me to be the same issue when you were fighting the Mole, like some hits just don't register.
The Inferno should be the A-10 Warthog and the ION should be the "One Shot One Kill" sniper. I'd like the ION to fire an accurate single massive damage shot from extreme distances to kill stationary targets. If the ION has a small magazine with limited available magazines for reloading, the ship would still need support in bigger fights. This would be ideal for behind the lines hit and run.
Agreed, it should act like an Eclipse in a lot of ways, long range stealthy ship that sends a massive payload towards unsuspecting or immobile targets that basically guarantees significant damage. It was always sold as a “destroyer” but right now it has less damage output than medium fighters.
I would like to see then nail down what the gold standard is and start with the oldest ship and work forward updating one ship at a time till all the old ships are brought up to date.
Pros: They got rid of the Ares weapon charge Cons: They reduced the sustained DPS even more while keeping the gun at an abysmal velocity level. With the current metrics, the Ion either needs to get a buff to ~1850 sustained DPS (identical to a Mirai Guardian) or a velocity buff to 1400m/s Cannons generally also need to stop with their arbitrary velocity losses above S3.
The issue is if they increase the projectile velocity, the Ion becomes the only ship used against other fighters. They need to buff it more so it's good for it's role of Anti-Capital/Large, but not good against against other fighters.
Just double the damage per shot, and leave the rest of the stats the same. Boom, fixed. Now it's a true sniper, long range and high alpha, but still easily evaded by light fighters.
@@harabecswurveweathersmake it lose thruster power when shooting so small fighters can easily outmanuver it and if at that point they get hit it should be a oneshot
The inferno needs increased projectile velocity. Its ideal range is 500m now, well inside of the PDC range of the cap ships it is supposed to prey upon.
I'm having those same cargo issues in 4.0 in Stanton now. They were working before, so I hope a server hot fix can get them working again. Trying to build up a bit of a nest egg here isn't proving to be very easy.
Really glad to see they increased the hull and thruster HP on the Guardian, I got it recently and while I love it so very much it is too fragile, too often were the engines destroyed. I almost wanted to melt it but I heard rumours of a buff next patch and that held true thankfully.
I actually really liked the idea of a charge mechanism for this massive weapon, they just balanced it poorly and never gave us a proper UI. I think they should have made the charge time even slower but made the weapon do like 10x the amount of damage. Keep the starfighter weak against small and medium ships that can avoid its slower heavy projectiles but make it absolutely smash big ships that can’t maneuver out its way.
CIG Product managers/owners don’t seem to be SC players. They’re lost on grooming the backlog properly to direct software teams work on the key things and work on it ONCE. This would have been fixed if they just started from the initial point of ion release and balanced from there.
Can you go see if the floor collision issue has been fixed in the pyro settlement buildings, so we don't fall through the floor? That bug is such a pain for red box looting.
The S7 weapon on ION, theoretically to engage capital ships, is MUCH LESS efficient than a S5, its absurd. The first ABSURD idea was to install in a fighter a Cap Ship weapon, absurd because CiG is not considering that this kind of weapons will need huge coolers, Power plants, ... that will not fit in a fighter
If they want to balance this type of fighter, they should have a spin up mechanic. slow rate of fire or low dmg, but it increases the longer you hold the fire button. that way light fighters have a chance to evade, but a capital ship will take a lot more damage. i know that's not perfect, but as it is, a capital ship will out regen this weapon. any light fighter will way out class it.
6:00 the ion is meant to take down cap class sheilds in a group and disable core systems. But a single one cannot even kill a far smaller ship in a decent amount of time... Smh
eh, problem with the ion is a slancer max with its stock loadout of 4 m6a's and god forbid a connie with 4 m7a's both out dps's and out alphas it by a good chunk (while getting gimballs), gonna need an armor system in place with the new damage simulation for the ion to make a return.
I honestly liked how ION was balanced when it first launched. I know light fighters cried out but i think its cool to have really dangerous ships in the mix like this. It should be a lethal sniper especially vs light fighters. Light fighters have to dance around it to fight it and in fleet battles it will be a priority target to take out before light fighters enter the mix. Dont like how every ship needs to be balanced out, let some ships be razor sharp.
Having the Ares be debuffed against mining ships but buffed against fighters would be perfect actually. I have both variants, the inferno desperately needs a buff, mine took like 600 rounds to kill an NPC in the little drop ship (forget the name)
You could have testet, if the Thrusters on the Guardian are now able to tank at least 1 missile hit and if the Cockpit benefits from the Overall HP Buff. That would be interesting to see =)
@@cpt_foxyloxy Yeah they like to see those reports coming in. I know they are opening it a bit for content creators who test too. So maybe they will ask soon.
Man, seeing the Nova still glitching through the floor hurts. I picked up both it and the Storm at New Deal. I love loading them up in a C2 to do hostile bunkers. Now, both the C2 and the tanks are broken. If the Hangar floor doesn't despawn and drop the tank, then the glitching collision makes it fall out during QT. At this point, we need a search party to find how deep CIG put its head up its own ass.
Ion still needs more DPS for it's use case Regarding the Mole, I had a similiar issue attacking it with the turrets from the Polaris, the Mole seems a bit buggy here :D
Can I suggest for testing purposes using data from spviewer? For example, you can see health of individual parts there, therefore you would see that gladius has exactly 2k health in the nose.
I loved the Ion before they gave it the charge nerf, but I really don't see myself going back to it even with this update. It's just plain outclassed by many other ships.
I have not been able to actually damage an NPC mole or prospector during 4.0 preview. I pop into the bounty area and kill the main target, assuming they can take damage, and then scoot. too many variables with desync and enemy ship damage immediately seeming repaired

Ion needs to have 12,000 alpha damage and 18-20 RPM to be as it should be in its heavy fighter class. But it should be its own class called super heavy fighter or something. The gun should have similar stats to the Slayer on the Tonk which is a s5 but does ridiculously more alpha and DPS than the Ion with its s7. I would like to see the Ion have a 30,000 alpha cannon that fires 15 RPM. Since it is now a new class called a super heavy, you can make it sub 30/30/60 on the agility like a corsair or connie. Guardian interior light was those stupid white lights on the cockpit rails in front of the pilot. Those white lights were blindingly bright before. Would have rather seen them give the Guardian a slightly agility boost in its stats instead of more hull HP.
