What I like to do when I have no hat-elastics is the following: put a safety pin on both sides into the hatband and use bobby pins to secure the hat. The second tip: put safety pins on your hat the same way but use a ribbon and tie the ribbon at the back of your head.

I have a huge head that most "ladies" hats do not fit. Learning how to wear a hat with combs (that I can sew in myself!) has opened my hat world up!

The combs work so well and as I have a larger head, choosing hats that sit on a tilt has really opened up options for me too.
I’m so glad these tips have helped you too.

Love this practical info! Hat pins are so much fun. (And at the height of their popularity they were banned in some places as weapons! If a man get's handsy with you, stab him with your hat pin! 🙌 ) I've gone back to my very short pixie hair cut and so hat pins aren't for me right now. But the scarf/ribbon attachment is terrific. With the bonus of protecting my wind sensitive ears. Throw on a hat with some oversized sunglasses and suddenly life is glamorous! ❤️

I have a big round head and most of your hats look like something that would fit me!

This was a very helpful video!! There are just so many things that you just don't learn from your mother or grandmother anywhere...that I feel like I should know but feel embarrassed to ask about...from how to keep a hat on to what is the best foundational garments to have... I want to feel confident and comfortable in my vintage wear ..bc so many people tend to watch when I go out in them...

Craft stores like Hobby Lobby frequently carry them as they sell hat and stick pins.

What would the difference be between hat pins and stick pins? I thought when they had the rubber ends they were considered stick pins. I have a small collection of both but I thought they were different. Maybe I should start using them all as hat pins! ☺️👒

Stick pins are generally used for neckwear, usually to secure a cravat. But they are often also worn on the lapel. You could absolutely use the stopper from any stick pins you have for your hat pins if they fit.

Some I store in hat boxes, and some I have hanging on the wall in my dressing room. If you check out the Tour of my Dressing room video you can see how I have it all set up. ua-cam.com/video/ghIJGXI6MLo/v-deo.html

For work I have to wear a baseball cap and my hat keeps falling down into my eyes. I do have a box of short the medium size hat pins without stoppers, I am totally going to start wearing my hat pins to secure my baseball cap to my head. And thank you for showing how to weave in the hat pin correctly so it does not fall out.

Who knew? 🤣 I have 4 “lapel pins” and never considered they may actually be for securing scarves, they each have the little stopper at the end! I learned something new today😉

I have a different hat related question. How do you wear a hat in a way that doesn't crush your hairstyle, so you can remove your hat without fear of looking disheveled? Or failing that, in case the answer is that you must keep your hat on all day, what are hairstyles and hat styles that are compatible with each other?
So far I have great success with berets. They stay on and given the many ways you can wear them, you can make them accommodate most hairstyles. I also have a fedora, and the thought of trying to make my hair collaborate with it is so intimidating that I never even experimented with it and use it only for bad hair days. 😂

Getting a hat that fits a bit larger will allow the hat to rest on the head instead of it being more snug. I have a video showing hairstyles to wear with hats, that might be helpful for you.

another enjoyable relaxing video Christine…Living in the UK, the weather is incredibly variable and often breezy so Hat pins are definitely a must for me. I also use wig clips on my Berets (One in the front and one in the back so that I can have my beret standing up in the kind of 1940s halo style if I want it and it won’t fall off) also wig clips are useful on felt hats.

Great tip! I’ll have to try that for my berets.

Hi Christine! Lovely video and fabulous hats. I'm trying to start hat shopping but my head size is a little larger than the standard fit and I struggle to find things that fit. I was wondering what the style is of the yellow hat featured in this video? I think that style would work well for me. Guessing Etsy is the place to find these kinds of hats? 🥰

I'm thrilled to have found your channel! I'm also a plus-size woman who wears vintage every day -- sometimes head to toe or mixed with modern pieces. Vintage hats are my weakness 🥰 About adding the combs, can you show or explain in which direction to attach them? Upside down or right side up? Curve to the front or back? Thank you! ❤️

My question is I have very thin baby fine hair how do I get my pins to stay in place well 🤪 I also have a small head so some of my hats are a bit big so need the pins suggestions?

    • @TheGlambassador
      @TheGlambassador  2 роки тому

Teasing the hair a bit will give the pins something to hold onto. But the hair combs might actually be a better option for you. A properly fitting hat is key, too large or too small and it might not stay on properly.
