I do the bobby pin thing in my hat all the time! It works wonders! I also use hairspray in my hat so it sticks to my hair. (But the hairspray can be bad for your hat) every once in awhile I will use duck tape on my forehead to the hat.

I was on a narrow mountain trail with strong winds. Lost my hat three times!!! I had a roll of Coban (bandage tape, a must have on ANY ride!). I made an Indian headband (around my forehead and over my hair), and gale force winds wouldn't blow it off!!! It was awesome! And it didn't show! Hope you'll try it and let me know how it works for you. You could probably make it like a hairband and go under your hair. No more hairpins, I always worry a pin could poke me in the head if I got bucked off. LOL! Please send me your feedback, and may you never fall of your horse! Happy trails! I have an App for that! And a mustang. Ride to live, and live to ride! YEE HAAAAA!

Good idea - sometimes I stuff a folded paper towel inside the hat band for a hat that's a little too big, similar to your headband, and more comfortable.

can you elaborate on how the bobby pins are in your hat? I can't see them well enough to know how im supposed to put them in

One end is stuck up between the hat and the sewn on inner lining, and the other end goes into your hair. Sometimes I get them started before I put my hat on. With some hats they can be a little hard to get in, but once they are started through the stitching, they usually push right up.

Hi, I've recently bought a horse that was trained for barrels some years before I got her, but the trainer ran her way to much and made her sour. (This is what I was told) what ever happened she just doesn't like barrels any more. I have mostly been focusing on building a relationship with her and fixing any other bad habits she has on the ground and in saddle (rearing). She's coming along great and pretty soon I'm going to want to reintroduce her to barrels. My question is, how can I unspoil her and get her to enjoy barrel again? Thank you!

Halle Strausser I think by instilling a through education and offering firm leadership you'll already be well on your way. The key is to make sure you've removed any pre-existing reasons the horse had to create a negative association with the barrels, then do most of your prep away from the pattern to keep it fun and interesting.

I use the Tampon trick , it works well, then I will also use hairspray to secure my hat.

What type of double sided tape do you recommend?

Whatever is available in the office supply dept. of your local store works, but double-side carpet tape could also be a more heavy duty option.

My hats, I wear an outback type, but the principle is the same; they fit very well and rarely fall off unless there's a really blustery wind system. So not wanting stampede strings on all the time I just rigged up a clip on clip off system: i.imgur.com/3o6ExoF.png Real simple, so my retaining string goes into a pocket when it's not clipped onto the jump ring installed on the cotter pins in the hat.
