- Vintage Turban/Head Scarf Tutorial - SIX DIFFERENT WAYS TO TIE A HEAD SCARF
Here is an updated version of my turban/head scarf tutorial from last year. I've included 4 more styles for a total of 6!!! And added a bit more information about scarf sizes and fabrics.
Wearing a vintage turban or head scarf is a simple way to achieve an authentic vintage style. Whether you are covering your wet set or you want a stylish way to keep your hair out of the way, a vintage turban is an easy way to look stylish

A velvet headband (made for wearing underneath headscarves, hijab, etc) takes wearing headscarves to a new level. You can wear silky scarves with no bobby pins or clips. It took me 20 min to sew a headband in thin velvet. It is not too warm in the summer.
A beautiful, confident accessory expertly demonstrated.
Thank you so much!
As a professional musician always going one place to the other thanks so so much for this
I see myself as more of a vintage enthusiast than a purist. I just love old things: cars, fashion, architecture, household items . . . A lot of it came from movies, television, and my grandmother. She was born in 1910, from New York, and a true ‘lady’ of her generation. I remember as a kid in the late 60s and 70s admiring her antiques, frieze upholstery, the way she always wore gloves when driving and an apron in the kitchen, her beautiful dishes, big cars, and etiquette. Anyway, I look forward to enjoying your channel. 💜
Loving your style and the music

I’ve recently accepted having long hair and am embracing how to care for it using protective hairstyles and I’m learning how valuable scarves are for that. Thank you so much for this, I hope I can pull it off as well as you do 💕
Thanks so much for this! I love to wear head scarves. I appreciate all these styles. I also wanted to mention that a velvet headband under your scarf can help it stay in place without bobby pins as well. I love mine
That’s a great tip, thanks. It would be too warm for me now, but when I’m in a colder weather that would be perfect.
@@TheGlambassador Velvet headbands don’t add heat! I wear them routinely in 100+ weather! I appreciate that you mention using scarves as a protective hair strategy!
I love velvet, any excuse to wear it 😘
Amazing 🤩
I am going to try that last one tomorrow because I have a curly hairpiece thingie that would work...my rolls are still somewhat lacking although I am managing the U shaped Middy and pin curls pretty good nowadays, I make sure to refresh my set with pin curls and a misting of water between sets and doing it every night, you get into a routine and the pin curls become second nature. I am still really unsure of scarves but you gave us plenty here to work with. I am really enjoying this latest foray into vintage dressing as the forties and fifties seem so much more flattering to curvy figures and more mature ladies like myself!
She so cute!
I found several large, patterned (mostly floral) scarves at Target about four or five years ago that I wear as turbans regularly. 💜
Girl!! Your beetlejuice tattoo is goals!!! 🙌🏼
I don't have a Beetlejuice tattoo. I have a fairy on one arm and the tightrope girl from the Haunted Mansion on the other. Is that the one you are referring to?
Thank you so much for this! I've recently gotten into wearing vintage style but I have very short hair at the moment (contrary to my profile pic LOL-- it's a pixie now!) So i've been looking for scarves and ways to tie them in a vintage way! I'm excited to try some of these
I'm so glad! I'm sure you'll find one or two styles that you love.
At last true glamour!!!!!!
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing ❤️👍🏾🌹
So informative! When I read "tuban" I thought "Rosie the Rivettor" but this was much more "Lana Turner/The Postman Always Rings Twice"! 😄 Loved this, can't wait to try these styles! I may do the flower one for the Easter Parade 2022!
I’ve been looking at and admiring photos of you on the internet for years and only today heard about your page through Facebook. I’m looking forward to watching your videos.
I'm so glad you found me!

Thank you very much for this lesson iv always wanted to do this the secret is to have longer scarfd i always over embellish my head with flowers so when you put one in I'm really excited to do this and I'm really loveing your look my look is combinations of chabby chic and retro with a little steam punk 💃
You look stunning, and I’m so inspired!
Just found your channel. I'm so happy I did.
Thank you for this well done tutorial!
Thank you! This video was exactly what I needed!! I get so frustrated with my scarves that I just never use them. This makes more sense than most of the scarf videos I’ve seen. And so many styles in one video is very appreciated.
You're so welcome, glad it was helpful!
Awesome! Thank you!👏🏼🙏🏼❤️
You are so welcome!
Love this! So inspiring!
Glad you liked it!!
Wow I love this turban tutorials thank you so much
You're very welcome!
After a recent illness I lost a lot of hair. I have to wear it up and it probably does not look great. I expect people would snicker if I wore a scarf because I only know one person who does so refularly but not in the vintage style. But maybe a matching skirt and a dose of confidence would go far. A small triangular headscarf was popular in the 60's. They were a smaller triangle that had bias tape ties; we tied it under our chin or in the back under our hair.
21:54 hah, loved that 💁🏼♀️😊 and loved all these styles! Will def be trying some of these!!! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Just did the first one with a bumper bang today, I love it !

Fantastic Christine so informative I loved this video, the best one I've seen on how to do turbans 🤩
Thank you! I’m glad it was helpful for you.
Beautiful lady, thanks for your creativity & sharing
You are so welcome
Great video! I struggle a lot with incorporating the turban to my everyday outfits because of the strange or funny looks on the street, but I love how people, including you, look in it! Thank you for this tutorial. I love one of yours scarfs, black with the red and green flowers, it's incredible!
Anything out of the norm will get attention. I generally get a lot of compliments when I wear a turban. I love that scarf too, I got that one in Rome from a street vendor.
Great
Hi there. You're awesome. I just subscribed. There is a velcro wrap sold on Amazon to hold headwraps of all fabrics.
This was fantastic! What a great way to work out with! I got rid of all my scarves years ago. Now I need to look for some more. I have a lot of bandanas but they large enough to create these looks. Thank you!
I'm so glad it was helpful for you. I love finding scarves at thrift stores and flea markets.
Amazing stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved this tutorial, I'll definitely be trying these out as I have a few scarves in my drawer!! I really liked your blouse too!! Thank you for a great video.....and I liked your choice of music too!!!xx
Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear that it was helpful for you and that you enjoyed it! I hope you can try out all the different styles.
@@TheGlambassador I will let you know how it goes 😊 xx
Great video! Thanks, I was looking for this. Have a great day!
I hope it was helpful.
@@TheGlambassador it really was. I have watched several of your videos and they were all great. 😘
Thank you!!!
❤❤❤
Loved this! Now I’m cruising eBay for more scarves 👀😂❤️
Fantastic!!!
Thanks a lot, Christine! Inspirational video! 🤗😍 I have a lot of scarves and some of them are vintage of course, but I don't wear them at all. I have absolutely no idea how and where on body to tie them. Your video gave my scarves hope that they are not in vain taking up space in my wardrobe 😁. Although I'm not sure if I will have the courage to tie a turban to me, I have never worn one, but they look awesome 😍. Thanks a lot again 🤗🌻
Just try one and wear it around the house for a while, see how you like it. Anything new takes a little while to get used to. But you might be surprised how much you like the look.
@@TheGlambassador That's true about that everything takes time to get used to 🤗 Really I can try it at home 😅 Thank you so much 🤗🤗🤗
Beautiful video! Thank you. I have a totally unrelated question, sorry. I am looking for exactly the lipstick you have on. A darker vintage red. Could you please tell me what are you wearing? Thank you ❤
Any recommendations for gray or silver hair? Your dark hair makes a beautiful frame for your face that is complimentary to the look of the turban. Darker colors are getting too harsh but I’m not really excited about lighter colors either. I’m sure there’s an obvious solution that I’m over looking.
Darlin, rock what makes you happy!!! Don't be afraid of different colors, patterns etc, just rock em all, I'm sure you'll look gorgeous no matter what you choose!!!!!
I have large floral muslin baby blankets my daughter has outgrown. would this be a good option?
I don’t see why not. Depending on how large or long it is. I imagine you could do many different styles with it.
I am a very casual gal, sweat pants, tshirts, walking shorts, tennis shoes etc! Could you recommend a style for wearing a casual scarf?
A style of scarf or a style of clothing?
These are SO CUTE! Thank you!
Question: Do you secure them with pins anywhere? I find they slip off my head unless I tie them so tight that my ears hurt! Any tricks?
I usually don’t need to pin them. The way that I do my hair underneath usually anchors the scarves pretty well. But a few well placed bobby pins could help to secure it as well.
@@TheGlambassador thanks girl, that's helpful :) I was just shopping for foam curlers so I can do your wet set with you!
Is there a brand you recommend for your foam rollers and hairnets? The ones you linked aren't available on Amazon. I looked at some other sets but people say the quality isn't there anymore and they don't hold up.
Any thoughts on where to buy decent rollers and hairnets?
THanks again! LOVE your channel - new subscriber :D
@@pancakepancake3789 I just updated the link to the rollers on that video, but check out this link for my favorites, it has the most up to date links.

@@TheGlambassador Thanks so much!
Your knots would probably lie better if they were squared
My knots lie perfectly fine for me, thanks.
It's a 1940s concept , nothing new , only we didn't tie such big knots on the front of head, we used it to cover curlers .
Turbans are not a 1940s concept, they've been around for a lot longer than that. Also they were most definitely worn as a fashion piece, not just to cover curlers in the 1940s. There are many historical references to wearing a fashion turban even with large knots or flowers and feathers.
Lol. Headscarves have been around for centuries
You talk to long...get to it.
I don’t typically respond to rude and entitled people like yourself, but you know what, you’ve got me on an off day.
To simply respond to your comment…NO.
The intention of my content is to inform and maybe to entertain. My information is important and valuable. I’ve provided chapters in the description for anyone who wants to skip to the specific section in the video they are looking for. You could have just done that.
So if I’m too much for you…GO. FIND. LESS!
