I really like it when you do a deck overview in the beginning of the video to introduce us to all the combos and reasoning behind the deck. This was a great vid but pls don’t take that away from your vids in the future Mr.CGB!
I learned a lot today. I learned that deck based matchmaking MIRRORS are definitely no longer just a play queue thing, I learned that a room's MV is equal to the MV of the unlocked rooms, and I learned that you could theoretically build a deck where you point your own anoints at your own 4+ MV creatures to trigger abilities for 1B
Funny tidbit, rooms are also the combined MV when they are anywhere else other than in play, so good with "deal damage equal to MV" things and bad for "pay cost equal to the MV" stuff. If they are not cast (blinked, returned from grave etc) they start with no door unlocked. Room rules are weird.
@goreobsessed2308 I've seen it in the play queue for a while, but ranked has only matched you based on what your removal won't tear apart. Only since duskmourn have I noticed a major uptick in mirrors (or what the algo clearly thinks are mirrors) cropping up in ranked as well. When you play almost exclusively off meta archetypes and colors like I have for years now, the difference then vs now is hard to miss
@goreobsessed2308 i wonder if it may be dependent on what u play cause I played mono red when I first started and never got mirrors and as soon as I switched to mono blue it's mirror after mirror for me. A card game not just putting u against whoever walks up and trying to deck matchmake is still the most insane thing to me in general.
I wonder if an Enduring _ card would be good in this deck. Since Zur keeps turning them into creatures, they keep returning as enchantments which you keep turning into more creatures with Zur.
To everyone asking for an intro, he has to manage him time differently now that he is working with other tubers, so cutting small corners to make more diverse videos will keep him able to make the content that he gives us. Please be considerate knowing that the direction and power level that magic is leaning towards is frustrating him, so if he needs a few videos to not explain or to not play standard just let him be.
Ah, Zur animating Leyline Binding! One of the first decks CGB played that I took, modded, and kept using for months on end. So many fun ways to play passive aggressive Zur nonsense.
As a MTG boomer, its wild that mill became so popular and sanctioned where land destruction actually feels fairer but got removed from the game like the original phrasing of exile 😂
No. Tokens have a mana value of zero but a copy of a card has all properties including the casting cost. In this case the token copy of the overlord has a mana cost of 5 since it is copying the original casting cost.
zur turns enchantments into buffed creatures and since the deck has good high mana value enchants (despite being able to them for lower costs), those creatures become big threats for a relatively cheap cost.
Id love to see Lich-Knight's Conquest work instead of Zur here. Sacrificie a bunch of impending overlords or non-creature enduring glimmers, return them all as creatures. Probably needs Red for the Haste glimmer.
I tried to use Lich-Knight's Conquest in an admittedly entirely different deck and brother it just ain't worth it... you basically need to have an entire other working strategy of tokens + self-mill just to swap out your existing board state for a graveyard based one... if you're trying to do mass reanimation in this deck you might as well just ramp up to Ghalta Stampede Tyrant to drop a hand full of monsters, or Bringer of the Last Gift to bring everything in your graveyard out. Or you can just have Zur beat face at a reasonable mana cost and protect your stuff...
@@shampooeddog1453 yeh, I don't like trying to base an entire deck around a 4-of anyway. Mainly feels like there's room for a deck that benefits from all these Black control enchantments lying around. Hopeless Nightmare, Nowhere to Run, Leyline of the Void. Originally was playing around with Pitiless Carnage, but saw Lich-Knight's and the idea of sacrificing several Impending Overlords and returning them immediately sounded interesting.
I like the video because CGB standard videos are always a good watch. But talk about disappointment when CGB runs a Zur deck but as domain "done 100 times" garbage. Yes it's powerful, but so predictable and not resilient in the slightest. Maybe CGB isn't enjoying the new meta because he isn't brewing decks anymore... Zur belongs in an Esper enchantment shell running enduring creatures. They die, return as enchantments, Zur animates then as creatures, then if they kill them they return as an enchantment again. Enduring tenacity dropped when you got a Zur enchanted with shielded by ghosts, couple ethereal armors, flys over and hits for 10+ lifelink, tenacity deals and extra ten. Way more impactful than "I cast Leyline on your 1 mana creature just to get rolled over turn 3 anyway ..
I mean, I like the full intros, but as long as there's something to tell us what the deck's plan is, and as long as all the cards are ones we've seen a million times already, it's kinda fine.
I'm not sure if I can continue watching CGB, even in the non RDW matches his toxicness is kind of unbearable. Makes me very sad to write this, he was one of my favorite arena streamers.
Up the Beanstalk was banned in Modern. It's substantially more broken than anything Red can do. Red at least has counterplay, Beanstalk doesn't. Even if you remove it immediately and cheaply they still get ahead on cards, and likely mana too.
That's how it supposed to be! :D I don't even consider the 2-3 minute of playing (against) mono-red a real game. It's just WotC's mistake. Magic should be a back and forth over several turns, not T2-Fling-Win.
No need for apologizing about mono-red tilt. Playing mono-red is truly the least fun experience in arena and has only gotten less fun as more sets are released.
Welp i only watched the intros... can you like make some deck techs or somthing? I dont wanna part ways i like hearing you talk but watching you jam matches is just boring unless im not paying attention 😂

Unpopular Opinion:
I like the deck overviews, I dont skip them.
I hope you are doing good CGB do whatever is best for you and your mental health.
1:33 Arena always match makes with similar decks with similar triggers and themes.
No, you also need more fungus. 1/2 one drop that deals with artifacts/enchantments, or ramps you, is very helpful.
But your new identity is supposed to be CovertGoRed! You were the chosen one!
The overlords are actually becoming kind of insane level cards
At 14:15 you can faintly hear someone yelling in the background
I loved watching game 1 - Is that type of game something you like, hate, or just indifferent about I wonder
watching you makes me wanna play mono red even more! lol
@39:39 Does anoint not work on the token? I thought tokens count as casting cost 0 but may be wrong.
No. Tokens have a mana value of zero but a copy of a card has all properties including the casting cost. In this case the token copy of the overlord has a mana cost of 5 since it is copying the original casting cost.
not if it's a copy, copies have the mana value of the permanent they copy
If you need an idea for a future video maybe showcase that Roxanne / Doppelgang / Overlord / Whale deck?
would you have any thoughts on using the Mindskinner in a deck?
To beans, or not to beans, that is the question.
A one of season of gathering would be pretty sick
Damn I just started and don’t know a lot about the cards, what is Zur and why is it good in this deck?
zur turns enchantments into buffed creatures and since the deck has good high mana value enchants (despite being able to them for lower costs), those creatures become big threats for a relatively cheap cost.
....CGB is trying _so Hard_ to stay above water in Standard RN.....
List Go Zurrrr
what in the hell?? Zur is still in the format? Wow did not know that , now I need to go through what's legal
Fire, Lets go CGB
I am still out for legal council for wizards using my likeness for zur’s face in Dominaria United!
Heck yea!! This is what I want ❤
Fun list thanks for sharin
29:20 actually won games like that against mono red just slowly skip in full control and they did play their target shit.
Is this deck worth crafting for the average player? Like 1-10 how would u rate it to craft for b01
Would say 6 at max, when you got the wild cards to spend. Has no a lot removal and I think you die a lot against mono red.

I've been using a similar deck and played a mirror, it's almost better to just concede and move on with how long it takes lol
Still thinkin bout them beans.
to beans or not to beans
39:05 pretty sure tokens don't have mana value.
They do if they are a copy of a permanent that has a mana value.
Has it happened? Did we just hear CGB admit that more cards is not the answer?
GGs, but who's Boney Paul?
I don’t know why he says it like that 😂
Dopplegang deck incoming
This deck is great but Selesnya Control with the domain theme is really nice honestly. Zur is cool but probably too slow for standard really
And yes the entire deck is draw beans in any matchup that's not aggro or lose lmao

Beans is banned in Modern because there is a certain density of powerful 5 drops you can cheat onto the stack that doesn't exist in Standard.
