The game with the leyline of sanctity: If you cast Maddening hex on YOURSELF then cast a non-creature, it attaches to an opponent CHOSEN at random. Wouldn't that bypass the leyline? You take some damage for it, but it would have been so sneaky!
I thought of this line as soon as Seth said "I literally can't cast this against leyline" but the hex was highlighted as soon as he made his 3rd land drop haha
@@Ovcharka88 Just because you can't roll that number does not change the average, after two rolls of 3 and 4 the average is still 3.5. Neither time did the roll exactly hit 3.5 but yet that is in fact the average.

That Leyline of Sanctity game hurt me for two reasons. One, gosh dang it Seth, you could've gotten around it. Two, it makes the deck a busted burn deck that *doesn't* lose to Sanctity.
1:40 That makes a full-on poem with a slight modification: Slam a Maddening Hex Back it up with the effects And trust our opponent’s going to die just by playing their decks
I usually hate a Bloodmoon lockdown deck but this one seems pretty fine for the format it's in. Just turns the phrase "life is a resource in MTG" into a literal mini game that plays out using those rules. Simply a fun time!
If you wanted to normalize the d6 values, you could consider adding an Ojer Axonil. The die roll range would change from 1-6 to 4-6. Add in a Commander's Plate, and now every d6 die roll is a 7. Throw in a City on Fire, and you'll have them cast a spell and deal 21 damage to themselves each time. Counterspell? That'll cost ya 21 damage.
Seth, something about statistics/dice rolls: average is 3.5 per roll, but the fewer triggers you get, the more the spread. One roll is going to do 1-6 with equal chance. With two triggers you get 5-9 damage 67% of the time, and three triggers will give you 8-13 damage 67% of the time. So while you weren't thrilled with your low rolls in match 2 game 1, you got 9 damage in 3 rolls and the opponent was effectively dead to the next spell they played - definitely a Maddening Hex win.
This has inspired me to make a Lord of Pain deck for this card. I call it "rakdos no swing" or "stop hitting yourself." Just pings for opponents playing the game, like Sheoldred, Cursed Witch, blood artist, some Goad stuff, etc.
This card is the sole reason I went 3-1 at Pre-Release and I'm still salty about it. I had a great black/red deck but enchantment removal was the one thing it was missing. If I got dissection tools and/or other lifegain, I was able to outpace the penalty, but if I didn't, every removal spell was dealing 4-5 damage and with a couple bad rolls and I was cooked. My opponent drew it in all three games. It was brutal.
You have such a great taste in how to play magic in these various formats. You should definitely have some legendary mythic emotes in Arena or at least one or two lair effects. Forgive me for mixing Magic rules with DnD…but you’re the one making the dice rolling deck.
I guess Red's only real way in Timeless to deal with large creatures is like, Introduction to Annihilation or something? Or steal it and find a way to sacrifice it...
Not sure these cards are on arena but there is a 4 mana sorcery (i belive, might have been an instant) in red that can destroy a creature (or artifact i think) and damages you a bit and 2 red bounce spells, 1 is a goblin with echo and the secind is a split card.

Hey Seth (Better known as saffron olive) I'd be curious on your take of a deck I just brewed for standard. It's on the MtG Goldfish website under the name Return of The Slasher. Anywhoozles have fun 😁
Been playing with this deck. Its still fun, its just unfortunately not very good. Planeswalkers get answered, mana dorks dont stick for the early hex. Still very fun
Timless is full of magic players in a very specific skill level where they know fetch lands and cheap spells are good but are awful at sideboading and always shock > fetch because they can.
Ok. Introducing a restricted list to Modern in addition to its banlist would be... Wait, no, this is Timeless isn't it. That's like Vintage? ... Yeah, restricting it in Vintage-lite is fine. ... Bans are for Modern and Legacy tho.
Why does this feel unfair? I guess that "noncreature" is doing a lot of work here and you get run over by monogreen or monowhite. But there aren't a ton of those in Timeless right now (I'm doing pretty okay with GW Angels) so maybe it would be nice to have a balance?
This card is beyond stupid. It's a 3 mana wincon that has no counterplay if your deck is mostly spells. I noticed this card this week and i was asking myself "why no one is using this shit?"
I mean, if your deck is mostly spells and you cant answer an enchantment.... whats your deck? like no discard? no removal? no bounce spells even? no counterspells for it? like "no counterplay" is a very strong term for something that literally doesnt protect itself in the slightest
@@zackestin1368 Well, Izzet can't destroy it, only bounce and counter. If you didn't get to counter it, then you have to wait for a bounce spell then counter it next turn.
